Miniatures idea

Oct 26, 2008 10:24:53 Just thought I'd bounce the idea off the forums see how it lands.

The miniatures are a randomized collectible and have always been. Kind of similar to Magic The Gathering. The older ones are getting pricey, and hard to find.

Like Magic, is it at all feasible to get a 'reprinting' of older miniatures with perhaps a different base or something that will allow those of us who missed a few sets to pick them up at a reasonable price? (Sort of like having a white bordered reprint in Magic) You know instead of black stands recast them with blue stands or something?

What do you all think?

Oct 31, 2008 23:30:03 I would love to see them do this. There are some cool minis from past sets that I'd like to pick up but I'll never pay the high prices many of them go for in the secondary market.

Nov 03, 2008 15:16:51 Totally. Especially what with more experience under their belts giving good paint jobs to minis it'd be nice to see a rerun of the first couple of sets but with better paint.

Granted some of those early sculpts were just vaguely monster shaped blobs of plastic--nothing you can do with those to make them pretty I guess.

Or those goshawful Planet of the Apes lookin' orcs. Wow those were bad.

Nov 04, 2008 12:55:12 Some of the nicer ones should definately be redone, a different base would be a good idea for the collectors I suppose.

Sort of like a chronicles set for D&D, I like.

Nov 04, 2008 15:41:29 Well the past couple of sets have re-released a few of the creatures, sometimes with a different cast or paintjob.

Also Demonweb (due out this week) is the last skirmish/fully random set to come up. Starting next year there will be PC sets that are 3 mini's that arent' random (and are visible) plus monster sets (first one being 40) with 1 visible, 1 rare, 1 uncommon, and 2 commons in it.

They're dropping the skirmish rules as skirmish players (sanctioned events) have been declining and the RP players don't want totally random packs filled mostly with mini's they'll never use in their game.

Or maybe just do some kind of collector's "best of" thing on the side as a small project--no big line or anything. Just try it out and see what happens. I mean if they have the molds anyway and people seem as excited about them as we seem to be. What's the downside?

Seems like easy money at low cost. Everyone's happy.
