So, I was talking with my friend on the phone because he had called to ask me, if he had ordered the correct product form his local comic shop because last month was my birthday and it was a belated present.

What I had mentioned that he said he would buy was Pathfinder's Beastiary, however he told me that he had put down a $10 dollar order on the Monster Manual 3 and that the store owner siad it would be out this month.

Now, my friend isn't exactly the a big role-playing buff and has only been recently introduced. But when he said MM3 coming out this month, I was like "what". At first I thought he ment the 3.5 MM but can that even be a real mistake? I'm not aware of WotC still publishing 3.5 stuff, and its already out so how could it come out this month?

So my question is can people already preorder MM3 for 4thed? I haven't heard anything or seen anything. Could someone enlighten me?

Sounds like the store owner lied to him, because MM3 isn't out until next year, most likely late Spring (early June, probably).

They don't even have a cover for it yet, and they're still playtesting the ideas, such as Catastrophic Dragons.  It'll be a while.

yeah, i'm thinking it's an error in the words myself. It's entirely possible my friend heard wrong but what is a Catostrophic Dragon?

They're next year's Dragon type.  They were so angry with Io's death that they embraced the Elemental Chaos and became forces of destruction and rage.  The Volcanic Dragon was playtested a couple months ago.  There should be Earthquake Dragons and Typhoon Dragons as well, at the very least (mentioned in the Monster Manual 1, when talking about other dragon types).

Scourge Dragons are the fourth type, and will arrive in MM4 or later.

Of interesting note, the Volcanic Dragon is the first time we see a Fire Dragon in 4e that isn't the most powerful of the Dragons of it's type (Red and Gold being the most powerful of Chromatic and Metallic respectively).

Then i take it that it's the Scourge Dargon that is most powerful?

No, Scourge Dragons are a fourth family of dragons to go along with Chromatic, Metallic, and Catastrophic.  They're probably set for 2011.  Catastrophic Dragons embody natural disasters.  Scourge Dragons embody those afflictions that plague living creatures.  They are also known as Linnorms, and are perhaps more closely related to Drakes than true Dragons (according to their description in the MM1).

....I thought we had the cover for it and Lloth was on it. Or at least I'm pretty sure that they mentioned Lloth being on the cover at some point. Not that this changes the fact that it isn't out yet.

This is correct. Here it is:

Not the best picture but all I could find.

Wow.  I stand corrected then.

I guess that means they're in the final stages of beta playtesting and finalising then.

That would also mean that Lolth is the big baddie in it, which is different because the Big Baddie in it is usually a Demon Prince, but here it's a God (one that lives in the Abyss, but still... deities are usually reserved for sub-setting books like the Draconomicons and Open Grave).

Could also have been mistake about a used book coming in. I know I have a book called Monster Manual 3 around here some where, it's not 4E but it has the same name.

3.5e MM3 was the one that started incorporating Eberron and Realms lore into the Monster Manual, and then everything went to hell.  It's the one with the fossil on the front.

And then if I remeber right its the Monster Manual 4 that started including all the smaple encounters for encountering the monsters in it and there was a lot of dragon-spawn creatures in it.

The cover to the new MM is pretty awesome. But, does anyone know what else we should be expeting other than the Cato-Dragons and Lolth?

I would assume Wilden will be in it, at the very least, considering they haven't been statted out as monsters, and they'll appear in the PH3.

I assume it will contain cool stuff to kill pcs with. As such, I await its release with baited breath.

Havent seen the cover yet, work blocked the site for some reason...*sigh*.  Still hoping for the unexpected return of gem dragons, granted there is no indication that there will ever be gem dragons, but I can dream.  I'm betting probably right about Wilden, but hoping for the return of a few things.  *crosses fingers* I personally miss Mephits, Nymphs and Mimics(dont think i recall seeing mimics but i might just have missed them.)  at the very least, if they arent back...you gotta figure mimics would make a come back >.>

I thought Mephits were familiars now?
