Not sure if this is the right place, but does anyone know if there are plans to revise MM1 or 2 with the new stat block format in MM3? As a new DM, I love the MM3 format and wondered if there was any discussion on a reprint or other sources where the previous MMs get a facelift.

What about the new Monster Vault for Essentials? New stat block there?

It appears you are not a DDI subscriber, but in any case: the only place where it seems that monsters are getting the facelift is in the Monster Builder (at least, thus far). In that program, all monsters use the MM3 format.

In the compendium, however, only the MM3 monsters were updated to the new format (with a few exceptions for things that were reprinted in various places post-MM3, if I remember right); I believe that's because the compendium and the monster builder use the data differently and it's not simple to change the Compendium layouts. I hope they eventually get around to it, but I don't know what the plan is.

Right - not a subscriber yet, but that may have sold me. Thanks for the great info.

on a somewhat related note, any clue as to whether all of the old monsters will have damage outputs revised to reflect the new damage formula?  or is that already being done along with the revised stat blocks?

The MM1 monsters are still balanced (except the minions, which suck), their just balance for longer battles (more HP, less damage).  The MM2 monsters already seems to mostly follow the new style (less HP, more damage), so they don't need it either.

So, no, i don't expect an errata.

Not true.

Starting with MM2, solo monsters had their HP reduced and their damage output tweaked (though more so by giving them more ability to make multiple attacks, rather than a straight damage boost).  All other monster, including those in MM3, still generally have just as much HP as ever.  The major revisons of MM3 were to the damage chart (adding about an extra 1/2 damage per level), a reduction in solder attack rolls, and a boost to brute attack rolls.

As such older monster are indeed outdated by the new standards, though to what degree is debatable.  Older soldiers are probably still more or less fine (lower damage, but higher attack), while older brutes are probaly in the most need of an updated (with both sub-par damage and attack).
