... the new assasin artical is up...

Martial and Shadow Striker:

Your sense of timing, skill with weapons, and ability to use the shadows as a second home allow you to strike with devastating effect against an unsuspecting foe. You even mix in some shadow magic when appropriate.

the new assassin draft is pretty interesting, huge burst damage abilities.  neat take on the at wills.  definately alot of rpness built into the actions of their attacks.  I would have to play it in a game, but its seems a lot simpler and stronger than the prior builds.  I may be wrong, but thats my inclination.  a 2d10 rider on top of another attack as an encounter is pretty boss, especially adding a poison to it.  Seems pretty apt to a class whose fluff is that they can take someone out in one strike.

(edit)
that 2d10 rider is for 3rd level.
1d10 at first.  I have 4th level character on the brain atm since I am building one for tomorrows campaign. My bad.

Devastatin Assassination (PP feature) is ghastly.

6d10 extra damage on a hit.  Which is, at that point, what, twice per encounter?

EDIT: That's be at level 13

Nope, Assassin's Strike can only ever be used once per encounter. It's specifically worded so that you can't regain it without a short rest.

Hmm..I could have sworn I saw something that said you can eventually get to use it 2/per encounter.  Then again, I just picked up HoFL today, so I may have confused it with the rogue's backstab when I was writing that.

I could see the Cavalier combining Martial and Divine (before 4e, Paladins in general always seemed to blend those flavor-wise).

Hybrids and multiclassing have given us single characters with multiple roles, multiple power sources so I am not sure if the "new" elements are that new.

So if an attack is martial and its augmented by arcane is it now both or what?
