My not-so-local gaming shop already has the July releases on the shelves!

Jul 08, 2010 14:21:46 I am not gonna say who or where because I don't want to get anyone in trouble, and I have to go out of my city to find a really good gaming shop, But I was floored this stuff was already on the shelf! I was ready to cancel my preorders and buy it all up right there, but when I asked the guy at the register why it was already on the shelf he said it was'nt for sale, and did'nt know why it was already put out. I had a good look through the Demonomicon and the Tomb of Horrors but alas could'nt peruse the pages of the Orcs of Stonefang Pass. Now I really can't wait for my Books to arrive!!

Has anyone else ever seen their local gaming shop put the books out early and then say they aren't for sale? I can only guess that if I had'nt said anything and just brought them up to the till I would have been able to buy them right there! Foolish ME!

Jul 08, 2010 14:29:41 I've never encountered the "It's not for sale" part, of that, but been to a few stores that put out books the weekend prior. The closest to you're thing I've encountered was a store in California got stuff very early at times, and they had their store copy out for everyone to look through and use in store.

This is partly a reward for running events/etc, and partly to help them compete with online retailers (who generally ignore release dates and ship way ahead of schedule anyway).

Technically, I believe the Premiere Stores can sell the releases 10 days prior to the actual street date, which means they probably shouldn't be selling them until the 10th.

Jul 08, 2010 22:33:56 I never heard of the 10 days before restriction. The game store I play LFR at on the first Satuirday of the month is a Premiere store and they have the new books out for sale when we get there.

If you count back from the third Tuesday of each month, the release date will always be either the 1st or 2nd Saturday of each month.
