Powers all have different names depending on their source, Arcane powers are Spells, Martial powers are Exploits, Divine Powers are Prayers. We know the 5 other power sources, but any guesses as to what they call their powers?

Primal - there was a reference to Barbarians having "Totems" in Races and Classes, so I like the idea.
Psionic - I'm going to guess "Talent"
Ki - ?
Elemental - ?
Shadow - ?

Shadow is probably going to have mysteries.

I'd have Psionic powers remain 'manifestations', though I'll admit that's a bit of a mouthful.

Psionic is a bit of a mountful, manifestations if perfectly fine.

Primal powers could be called Forces.

I'm guessing that primal ISN'T totems. Totem refers to something else, methinks.

My guesses are:

Psionic - Talent or Manifestation
Elemental - Evocation/Invocation
Shadow - Mystery
Ki - Technique
Primal - I have no clue for this.

In 3.5, where wizards "cast" "spells," psions "manifest" "powers." I guess calling them manifestations would be okay, but I'm more in favour of sticking with calling them powers.

Divine powers are Prayers

Martial powers are Exploits
Psionic powers are Powers

Its like have the power source "Power Source"

Hey, psionics had that word first!

In all seriousness, I was a little confused at first when everyone was talking about "the rogue's first level powers." I thought it was like 1e AD&D all over again wherein everything is at least a little bit psionic.

Humm, here is what I think/would perfer:

Primal- Fury (Plurlal, "Furies")
Psi- Esper (A term derived from ESP, or extra sensory perception)
Shadow- Mystery (As suggested earlier, and as in the 3.5 Tome of Magic, term would give natural synergy to Vecna, god of secrets)
Ki-Technique (I actually think Martial should have used that term)
Elemental- Evocation (Being derived from the 3.5 definition)

I'd go with the fallowing

Primal trances
Psionic talents
Shadow secrets
Ki techniques (though I prefer jutsu, but it makes this power source too much oriental and we all know Wizards want to avoid that)
Elemental invocations

Primal - Totems (as stated in Races and Classes)
Psionic - Powers (get over it, they had it first)
Shadow - Mysteries (Tome of Magic)
Ki - Jutsu or Maneuvers (ToB:Bo9S)
Eletemtal - No clue (Probably something evil, elemental might be the demonic source)

I like 'screams' for Primal, even though they'd never call them that.

Whatever name they use for each source has to sound right for every class in it. For Primal, that includes barbarians, druids, shamans and (maybe) witches. A word like 'fury' would sound great for barbarian powers, but a little ill-fitting for druids and shamans.

'Totems' might work, but that word sounds better suited as a shaman's implement than a power term. 'Trances' is possibly the best of an imperfect lot.

'Manifestations' does seem too long for psi powers, but manifests may work. 'Psi manifest' has a certain flow to it. For ki powers, 'jutsu' is fine. Yes, it's Asian, but it's also flavorful and well known.

They have stated that barbarians use totems. Hence, totems are primal powers.

They've said that warlocks use pacts, hence pacts are arcane powers.:P

Hasn't it been stated that the psionic power source will actually be referred to as the psi power source in 4th? I'm guessing an old school talents, sciences, or devotions for psi. If they go with something new perhapse memes or mesmers?

I'm still for ki being techniques (since the opportunity was missed on the martial power source)

For elemental I can see evocations possibly or maybe effigies.

Shadow powers could be mysteries or possibly secrets.

Primal powers could be invocations or arts?

Touché

What? I was just giving a counterpoint and being a little snarky at the same time. I could have been a lot more snarky, as an example I considered saying this instead, "They've said that fighters use swords, hence swords are martial powers.":P

Back before the PHB actually came out, there were a couple of threads devoted to discussing what the new power sources and what their powers would be called.
Here are some of mine:
Martial = exploits
Divine = prayers
Arcane = spells
Psionic = talents
Primal = manifestations
Shadow = glamours
Ki = techniques

That is possible. It would then allow the term Tallent be reserved for such features as the Figther, and Rogue, Weapon Tallent.

Primal
Not sure. Some good ideas though. "Furies" is cool. I remember discussing this ages ago. Nautilus makes a good point about the fit, though. Trances is a good suggestion, Rekko. It's seems mostly evocative of shamanism, IMO, but you could describe a rage as a sort of trance as well.

Psi

For now I like Manifestations, or Manifests. I think they will shy away from being uber-sciencey (phenomenons?! :P Hehe.) and I think Talents may be like "powers"...too broad.

Shadow

I like Mysteries. Cool!

Elemental

How about Shapings?

Ki
Not sure. Jutsu? Kata? I wonder if these are too specific. Maybe just "Forms" ?

Overall

I think they'll want something evocative and flavorful, but somehow general enough to fit for all relevant classes. More adjective, less verb...in a sort of abstract way.

Great thread idea, btw. :D

Primal - 'Trances' is pretty good. Totems will probably be a type of implement for shamans/druids.

Psionic - "Talents" seems a bit less awkward than "manifestations". "Charms" could work as well if they flavor the psion as an enchanter-type.

Shadow - 'Secrets' works well here.

Ki - "Techniques" seems like the best fit.

Elemental - Probably the hardest to figure out, since figuring out a place for elemental class flavor without stepping on the toes of other classes is important. "Forces" or "Invocations" might work.

More thoughts.

Elemental: Forces, kind of flows

Ki: Kata, this is really good

Primal: Urges, I like it

Psi: Talents, old skool

Shadow: Mysteries, sounds good to me

Forms for Ki? not bad. Sounds neutral enough.

I'm kinda partial to Primal Rites, Shadow Mysteries, and Psionic Talents. Rites could fit Elemental too, though. "Primal Vestiges" kinda has a nice ring to it too. If only we could fit "Utterances" or "Recitations" in the Power sources somewhere :P

Ki is supposed to be "channeling the power of the soul". Hmm... what were the "powers" for Incarnum called? "Soulmelds"? Eh, that sounds kinda clunky without the item-creation of Incarnum attached...

My favorites so far:
Psionic Talents (alt Projections)
Ki Disciplines
Elemental Bindings (alt Channels)
Shadow Mysteries
Primal Channels (alt Trances)

Primal Rites could work, but the term Ritual is already in use and I think avoiding confusion should be an issue.

The trick is finding a word that fits the powers of Druids, Shamans, and Barbarians. That is, if all three are of the primal power source as expected.

Channelings and Invocations seem the best fit so far, to me.

Well, so close. Primal Powers are Evocations according to the Barbarian Playtest article.

"Summon the power of nature within you. Evoke your primal powers!"

Hmm... yes. It fits. I guess Elemental Powers could be Invocations, maybe.
