| #1Silver_BlazeJan 24, 2011 17:23:40 | Hey, just wanted to give people the heads up. The Neverwinter Campaign Guide is now showing up in the Product Catalog. It has an August 16th release date. No mention of the Bladesinger is made, but that doesn't necessarily mean it isn't in the book. Though if they moved it to the Player's Option: Heroes of the Feywild book, it would make sense. Can't wait to find out more. Link: wizards.com/dnd/Product.aspx?x=dnd/produ... |
| #2SamrinJan 24, 2011 17:28:12 | Wonder if the video game is due out at this time as well. I have no faith in Cryptic to produce a good game, but I've been waiting for a 4e video game. Hoping they pull it off well. |
| #3lokiareJan 24, 2011 18:17:16 | Wonder if the video game is due out at this time as well. I have no faith in Cryptic to produce a good game, but I've been waiting for a 4e video game. Its supposed to be based on the Neverwinter Nights games. Its not gonna be 4E. Its gonna be a game that vaguely reminds you of 4E... |
| #4Silver_BlazeJan 24, 2011 18:20:21 | Wonder if the video game is due out at this time as well. I have no faith in Cryptic to produce a good game, but I've been waiting for a 4e video game. I think that is the norm for NWN games. They only vaguely resemble the regular game. I am looking forward to it, though I wish it was coming out on the consoles. |
| #5SamrinJan 24, 2011 18:32:51 | Wonder if the video game is due out at this time as well. I have no faith in Cryptic to produce a good game, but I've been waiting for a 4e video game. It's still the first game to be based on 4e rules. Neverwinter Nights was "based" on 3e rules. If it was BioWare doing it again, I would be hopeful. Cryptic has just yet to impress me. |
| #6excalainenJan 24, 2011 18:58:15 | Looks like a good old-fashioned hardcover campaign setting book. I like! This is the first good news since about August regarding 4e. |
| #7SamrinJan 24, 2011 18:59:23 | Looks like a good old-fashioned hardcover campaign setting book. I like! This is the first good news since about August regarding 4e. Problem is... how can you make a campaign setting that's already part of an existing campaign setting? This has been bothering me. Forgotten Realms is already out.... |
| #8excalainenJan 24, 2011 19:01:55 | Well, it's a setting within a setting. I can see much use for a 200+ page book concentrating on a relatively small area. |
| #9Darkwolf_BloodsbaneJan 24, 2011 19:50:01 | Screw the Realms, I want something NEW. Not something that every hack with a typewriter has had his way with since the 70s. |
| #10SamrinJan 24, 2011 19:53:31 | Yeah, I would like to see a setting that 4e can call its own. Kinda like Eberron was for 3.5. PoL doesn't count. :P |
| #11askanipsionJan 24, 2011 21:37:08 | the description of the book kinda sounds like what Myth Drannor was like in 3E... so we give the elves back there home and smash down another major city.....supposebly the new Drizzt books deal with Neverwinter also ![]() Drizzt is the Wolverine of the Realms.....he just has to be involved.... |
| #12sfdragonJan 24, 2011 21:43:42 | Neverwinter was never all that....... Best place it run amuk in the North these days is Luskan |
| #13Style75Jan 24, 2011 22:08:47 | I'm really looking forward to this. I'm not a huge fan of the whole Neverwinter mythos, but I'll take what I can get when it comes to 4e FR. For those of you who groan and say "not another FR book", this is the first 4e realms book in almost 3 years. I think WotC has showed remarkable restraint in not milking that franchise like they did in 2e and 3.x |
| #14ColdbrandJan 24, 2011 23:40:00 | Watch this sabotage our chances at Ravenloft this year. Hahaha, oh how cynical you have made me WoTC. |
| #15cdtalmasJan 25, 2011 0:02:44 | For something perty darn close to 4E, try Dragon Age. Mechanically, they share quite a few similarities. |
| #16ColdbrandJan 25, 2011 0:12:07 | For something perty darn close to 4E, try Dragon Age. Mechanically, they share quite a few similarities. I'm more reminded of 3.5 with the way goddamn mages are horridly more powerful than everyone else. Cone of cold and lightning are goddamn ridiculous. Arcane warrior completely defeats the point of warriors. |
| #17lokiareJan 25, 2011 0:46:24 | I just recently played icewind Dale II. I am remineded why I don't like 3.X and versions before it. I'm hitting the quicksave and quickload buttons all the time. You roll badly and you die... I'm looking forward to a true 4E representation in a software game. This will probably not be it... |
| #18DuskweaverJan 25, 2011 4:01:37 | Its not gonna be 4E. Its gonna be a game that vaguely reminds you of 4E... So, it's a bit like Essentials, then? ![]() |
| #19hatsumaJan 25, 2011 7:07:31 | 1) This thing keeps saying 'heroic tier'. Is there no paragon/epic? Is this a sign of maybe a future 'paragon tier' FR campaign book, and an epic one? 2) I assume it's just this? As opposed to the '3 book' system? 3)It looks like the catalog went out to september (with the next mega adventure). No july release? EDIT: I thought we were getting a bladesinger class/build somewhere? The more I look at this, it looks like just the DM book. Maybe the player one is still coming out somewhere... |
| #20excalainenJan 25, 2011 13:18:19 | I just recently played icewind Dale II. I am remineded why I don't like 3.X and versions before it. I'm hitting the quicksave and quickload buttons all the time. You roll badly and you die... If it ain't turn-based it ain't 4e. But since turn-based is sadly so unpopular these days, I don't think there is ever going to be a true 4e crpg. |
| #21Silver_BlazeJan 25, 2011 19:18:07 | 1) This thing keeps saying 'heroic tier'. Is there no paragon/epic? Is this a sign of maybe a future 'paragon tier' FR campaign book, and an epic one? I am wondering if they excised out the player content and are going to be putting it in something else. It is really hard to get a good idea of what is going on based on two sentences. This is how misconceptions, like the ones we had with Heroes of Shadow, keep happening. Hopefully we will find out more from DDXP. I am really hoping they didn't take the player content out, since the book would go from a 'definite buy' to a 'probably buy later'. |
| #22Janx_14Jan 25, 2011 20:56:18 | I'm just glad we're back to hard covers. Worried bout the lack of class, could mean they're ditching essentials style classes though. Im hoping the computer game has some new race/class to 4e eventually. From what i read back when it was announced, it was just the usual 5 classes that like every RPG ever has. |
| #23Style75Jan 26, 2011 12:28:02 | I'm just glad we're back to hard covers. Worried bout the lack of class, could mean they're ditching essentials style classes though. ... at release. You know they'll dole out the other classes through expansion packs, along with a token amount of new world content. That seems to be the video game model now. They sell you half a game at full price and then nickle and dime you for the next couple of years until you've bought the full game. |
| #24HaldrikJan 26, 2011 16:38:42 | Hey, NCG looks great. I like the idea of a setting book specializing per tier. It captures the whole fell of Heroic local-national, then later Paragon national-global, then Epic global-multiplanar. These deserve separate settings. This NCG is a 'Campaign Guide', so it wont really have player character info in it. In fact, I hope there is no Neverwinter 'Players Guide'. I dont like fracturing player options - Artificer in Eberron, but Genasi in Realms, or so on. Id rather consolidate all of the player options, along the lines of old PH1, PH2, ... PH13. Using the same format helps the rhythm of customer expectations and ensures more reliable support too. Tho to be honest, I do prefer the name 'Heroes Of': HO1, HO2, ... HO13. |
| #25CyvarisJan 26, 2011 18:27:06 | Ehh I might give it a pass. The only thing that would really interest me is the bladesinger, since I am holding out that it will be a striker. I want a melee Int primary striker darn it. |
| #26zman123Jan 27, 2011 8:16:48 | I'm just glad we're back to hard covers. Worried bout the lack of class, could mean they're ditching essentials style classes though. Neverwinter will be the first videogame that will use the 4E rules-set. Neverwinter will be released December 31 2011, this is when I last looked at the date, it may change however. |
| #27sfdragonJan 27, 2011 21:19:16 | I'm just glad we're back to hard covers. Worried bout the lack of class, could mean they're ditching essentials style classes though. ummmm NO. ummm maybe.... maybe not Daggerdale might be out sooner |
| #28Chiba_MonkeyJan 31, 2011 21:59:44 | I'm just glad we're back to hard covers. Worried bout the lack of class, could mean they're ditching essentials style classes though. No game comes out Dec 31st. When you see that lised, it's a placeholder for an unspecified date, which will HOPEFULLY be shortly after that one, but likely. I'd expect it 1st quarter 2012 at earliest. |
| #29SaltyFishJan 31, 2011 23:22:50 | Daggerdale might be out sooner That and the mentioning of Cryptic's game at the convention leads me to think that Atari is still holding the rights to D&D video games. Not exactly the brightest future, but then again, even if Hasbro got it back, their judgement probably won't be better. Still, I would have liked to have my delusion of hope that Hasbro would get it back and outsource it to Nippon Ichi Software or Apollosoft. INT based melee striker is fine and all, just don't limit the weapon types so needlessly like the Swordmage. Although from the name (BLADEsinger), it might be so. Speaking of Swordmage, I got a funny feeling that Bladesinger might end up as a striker Swordmage subclass. If it does end up as such, maybe we'll get some support for other weapon groups with it. |
| #30malisteenJan 31, 2011 23:41:47 | I like the idea of a setting book specializing per tier. It captures the whole fell of Heroic local-national, then later Paragon national-global, then Epic global-multiplanar. These deserve separate settings. I'm not so much opposed to tier based products, just that the price point doesn't seem to be in line with a tier based campaign supplement. That and I'm absolutely sick of heroic tier. I've played in so many 4e campaigns that never made it to paragon, whether organized events or otherwise. The game is better once you have a range of feats, encounter powers, and daily powers to work with. Like I said, I'd probably have a more positive reaction to, say, a paragon tier supplement focused on Sharn. That said, not for us$40. |
| #31tigger11Feb 01, 2011 22:55:38 | Hey, NCG looks great. Actually at least we originally announced it had the Bladesinger in it, so its going to be much like the Dark Sun Campaign Guide with both Player and DM information in it. I'm just wondering with the likely delay of the game, whether this book is going to get pushed out. |
| #32hattaMar 03, 2011 21:40:01 | Watch this sabotage our chances at Ravenloft this year. Hahaha, oh how cynical you have made me WoTC. You do know that the Ravenloft product is no longer being released? As for the Bladesinger, I'm guessing it has been moved to Heroes of the Feywild. |
