| #1rmohrfunSep 07, 2010 9:44:29 | Any word on a new adventure path/arc in the near future? I am not picky about the setting but a new adventure arc would be great. The Scales of War was completed back in February. |
| #2JoshaSep 11, 2010 11:40:26 | Yeah, Chaos Scar is terrible. Let's see a full-fledged adventure path with full-length adventures. I was thinking Night Below converted to 4e. |
| #3MarandahirSep 11, 2010 12:01:13 | Chaos Scar is great; I dunno what you're talking about. It's just not an Adventure Path. It's a completely different published adventure experience that really works in a natural tree format. |
| #4Dragon9Sep 12, 2010 20:55:48 | I have to agree with Josha. Chaos Scar bites it. I would like to see them get away from these itty bitty "vignettes" and get back to offering full fledged adventures. Not necessarily an AP unless they decide to do it better. Dungeon has paled since it got away from offering a handful of full adventures. |
| #5tiamatdragonwingSep 12, 2010 22:18:51 | A new one would certainly be nice, even if it ended up lasting a single tier. Chaos Scar to me is better suited to 'campaign padding' or as stand alone adventures when there isn't enough regular players/DM for a full story. |
| #6cerestusSep 12, 2010 23:13:15 | Count another for the crowd who does not like Chaos Scar formal and would prefer another full adventure path. |
| #7NyarlathotepSep 13, 2010 8:51:37 | +1 |
| #8VaelSep 13, 2010 12:43:26 | Maybe not another full 1-30 adventure path ... but I want longer and more interesting adventures in Dungeon. Maybe an adventure encompassing a few levels split up over a few issues? What Dungeon really needs is to support higher level play, which is why I have no interest in Chaos Scar anymore. I need more Paragon and Epic tier material. |
| #9excalainenSep 13, 2010 17:31:38 | Here's another vote for an AP and against CS. |
| #10Janx_14Sep 13, 2010 18:28:06 | +1 I see a chaos scar adventure I don't even bother looking at them anymore. |
| #11Plaguescarred1Sep 14, 2010 2:27:47 | +1 A more streamlined one like a serie of 9 adventures, 3 Heroic, 3 Paragon and 3 Epic would be nice with a unseeming debut, strong tied growing plot and a striking finale. YEAH PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!! Also, a SOLO adventure path would be awesome...for i don't play enought ![]() |
| #12ADHadhSep 14, 2010 5:46:11 | +1 Like the H1-E3 set? Why not? |
| #13ah_stormbringerSep 14, 2010 9:23:01 | I would prefer some stand alone adventures that can be put into any campaign rather than that really badly written junk H1-E3. If DM's would do a little work on their games it would go along way. I hae no problem with adventure arcs if they are well written but most adventures for 4th have sucked. |

I agree that adventures that can be ut into any campaign are, as a rule, not neccessarily bad. However, I think the problem with a lot of them fall sinto one of two categories. They're either too generic meanign the plot and story get lost without a good thread to tie them together, or they've been written very solidly towards core D&D, which isn't a setting, and sometimes takes extensive work to convert it to another setting. |
| #15ah_stormbringerSep 14, 2010 18:15:30 | Thats odd cause back in the days of 1st and 2nd editions most adventures we got we just random adventures with little or no connection and it was up to the DM to figure out if an adventure fit into their story. I think Dm's in general have gotten lazy and don't want to do alot of work and want everything handed to them. I want to say before someone freaks out that I do not think all the DM's out there are lazy but alot are these days. |
| #16Dara_KananSep 14, 2010 19:05:28 | I want something like enworld War of the burning sky or old 3.5 age of worms. I don't like chaos scar either. |
| #17Chiba_MonkeySep 14, 2010 20:44:29 | I want something like enworld War of the burning sky or old 3.5 age of worms. I don't like chaos scar either. I LOVED Age of Worms. I liked Scales of War, too. Never got into Shackled City. |

I think Dm's in general have gotten lazy and don't want to do alot of work and want everything handed to them. I want to say before someone freaks out that I do not think all the DM's out there are lazy but alot are these days. Not all DMs have the creativity or the time to write an adventure path spanning from 1-30 with an interesting plot all the way. It doesn't make them lazy for that. Ok some might be, but many don't simply because they opt for published adventures. Many DMs opted for published adventures even back in the early 80's. Today's no different. In 1E/2E rare were the adventure path. I don't think there was a 1-20 in 2E, many 3's wrap up as succession of adventures and IIRC Night Below was a 1-10 big piece. In 3E i don't know. 4E introduced a published adventure path 1-30 right off the bat and one in Dragon magazine. Chaos Scar was an adventure path composed of many branches. I'd like to see more a linear AP with a very strong plot rather than one pseudo called AP offerring many possible avenues. I'd go for quality over quantity anytime ! Personally, i tend to work 50/50 of the adventures i put my players against. Many Dragons and some published. I've been doing this for years. But i can understand their popularity without questioning the hard laboring aptitudes of DMs. |
| #19Neutronium_DragonSep 15, 2010 0:51:20 | I'd like to see the Chaos Scar continue as-is, but I also feel that it would be helpful to have some higher level adventures that work as a mini-series. I'm doubtful about another full-length adventure path because it's difficult to maintain a consistent direction across a project that lengthy, but a few two-part or three-part series could certainly work, and would be easier to integrate into an existing campaign (which is another strike against a 1-30 adventure path). |
| #20Lord_VentnorSep 15, 2010 0:54:42 | Perhaps the first few adventures of the New Adventure path might involve the Nentir Vale in some way. And it should include the ruins of ancient empires frequently. |
| #21leozeligSep 15, 2010 10:58:28 | As Dungeon adventures go, I agree that the DM should figure out how it fits into a larger story, if at all. Nothing wrong with a stand-alone adventure provided there is enough there - like more than 2-3 encounters. I would personally like to see a linked series of adventures spanning a few Dungeon issues and covering a couple levels of play at least. They did something like that a couple years ago. Something something madness (the name escapes me), covered a couple levels of play in the late heroic and early paragon tier as I recall. I thought that was cool... |
| #22leozeligSep 15, 2010 11:14:42 | Regarding the 30-levels long APs, I have nothing against them per se, but it can be hard to keep a group together that long. The overarching plot isn't so fun if it never has a chance to reveal itself. I also think that multiple shorter arcs offer more variety, which keeps things interesting. While the full APs also offer variety, working some of that into the story can be a bit of a stretch and feel almost forced at times in terms of the flow of events. My concept of an adventurer involves pursuing several different (and generally unrelated) adventures over the course of a career, maybe because my roots lie in the older editions of the 80's where modules where fairly random expeditions for the most part... |
| #23snarls_at_fleasSep 18, 2010 20:23:40 | I'd like to see something like old Dragonlance. Where it's sandbox first, then you have a bunch of refugees and have to feed and protect them and play political games with different factions within them, then it's dungeon crawl, then it's rather rigid plot with wonderful set pieces, then you have a full scale war with rules, maps and tokens for it and then the grand finale with different requirements and possible outcomes. Make them boxed sets worth some 1-5 lvls of gaming time (so about 4-6 sets), maps, tokens etc., price them like upcoming GW adventure boxes and I'm totally in. |
| #24BombergSep 20, 2010 4:33:05 | While I like the concept of an AP, they are pretty much unplayable for me and my group. An entire AP takes up way too much real time to play through. So I'd prefer smaller sets of linked adventures plus a separate selection of campaign stories. Give me a power-hungry wizard, an evil cult, and some danger from another plane (plus something less clichè This way, each DM can pick his own overarching plot and run the published adventures, sort of creating his own personalised AP. | #25Style75Sep 20, 2010 20:08:09 | Adventure paths? Chaos scar? How about just a few new official adventure modules? The last 2 (Slaying stone, Stonefang Pass) were very short and now I see that there are NO modules listed for 2011. Suspicion: WoTC wants DM's to purchase adventures through DDI (ie. Dungeon mag) instead of through traditional hard copy. I love dungeon, but i like having the printed word too. I guess I'm old school in that regard. What do you think about this? Should adventure modules be all digital in the future? |
| #26drkleesSep 21, 2010 7:53:45 | The lack of adventures for the future is concerning. Dungeon adventures are fine versus hard copy, although I like hard copy, we have not seen many adventures over the last few months. Most of the ones published lately in Dungeon are very short. It would be great to do another Adventure Path. |

The last 2 (Slaying stone, Stonefang Pass) were very short and now I see that there are NO modules listed for 2011. I don't think the adventures sold that well but they were great stuff. I especially liked the maps included. I think they are cutting costs and the adventures are probably the first to go. |
| #30NyarlathotepSep 22, 2010 21:20:50 |
Fixed that for you. I do wish that dungeon was available in a more 'printer-freindly' format. Until it is, it's not really economical to print out adventures from the mags. |
| #31NyarlathotepSep 22, 2010 21:28:28 | I do think that digital is the best way to get adventures though. I dont think they sell well, and I myself seldom buy them for a variety of reasons, ranging from "I like my own stuff better" to "I don't find them to be worth the money they cost", however having them in Dungeon mag is nice because that gives me a source of adventures for weeks that I have DM's Block or am too rushed to have time to prep a game. I doubt I am alone in that. |
| #32Plaguescarred1Sep 22, 2010 21:50:29 | Dungeon adventures are cool enought but lack one important thing that modules have, maps. I can print relatively easily but putting up maps to scale is more tricky. |
| #33Dragon9Sep 22, 2010 22:00:49 |
Fixed your fix for you. ;) Or I could rephrase it as: Step 1 - Print Dungeon adventure on a halfway decent printer with quality ink cartridges that don't die after half a dozen Character Builder printings Step 2 - ? Step 3 - Profit. |
| #34jonathonhawkeSep 24, 2010 22:20:41 | What does everybody think of the new Tomb of Horrors? Several adventures spread out across the characters' adventuring careers. Also, one adventure (arc) I'd like to see someone put out is the old Dark Tower. |
| #35flashySep 29, 2010 16:24:25 | Is there anyplace on this site, or any other, that gives fair reviews (or at least lots of well-supported opinions) on the quality of the various published adventures (incl. non-WOTC)? I can fit just about any module into my campaigns, and I appreciate playtested combats, so I'd like to see some discussion of the best stuff out there (and what to avoid). I'd buy any published adventure with the quality of Slaying Stone (typos and all). |
