Rampant Speculation/ Uninhibited Hoping Time!

Both Campaign Guides and Power books have introduced new "builds" for classes. ITT, we discuss what builds we would like to see in the future!

(Let's try to stay away from stuff we basically know is coming [like Familiars for Wizards and Vestiges for Warlocks.])

Some of my personal preferences to get us started!

Warlock:
  • Blood Pact
  • Dragon Pact (think... IDK, but its not hard)
  • Dream Pact (think Eberron and Quori spirits)
  • Sea Pact (think Dagon)

Swordmage
  • Options that allow for different weapon groups, like Axes or Spears.

But if the ymake a new build for the Swordmage that let you use an Axe, wouldn't they have to change the name? :p

I want to see more Freaking Str based powers for Paladins. It is kind of lame that Str based paladins practically have to MC fighter to get a decent selection of powers.

Some guesses:

A fully-developed illusionist build for the Wizard (this shouldn't interfere with future illusionist classes, since they already made the psuedo-barbarian Battlerager build for fighters). Also, perhaps a summoner/conjurer build.

Primordial and Necromantic pacts for the Warlock.

Maybe some sort of DEX-based build for the Swordmage (focusing more on finesse than raw strength). That, or an Arcane Archer build.

A Mounted Cavalier build for the Paladin (since they brought back the ranger's animal companion, they might bring in the paladin's Mount again).

Some darker-flavored Cleric powers/builds for worshippers of evil gods.

My guess would be a "Virtue of Grace" for Bards with Dexterity as a secondary ability.

For wizards we might see an Athame/Dagger as an implement.

Perhaps they should have called the class the Blademage

They did this with the first issue of online Dragon, with the Class Acts: Wizard article. I'd suggest checking it out if you haven''t for more Illusionist powers.

Personally, I'd like to see some ranged options for the Warlord.

A. That wasn't a build.
B. It only was heroic tier as I recall.

Both correct!

Hence why I said 'fully-developed'. They might end up using that stuff as the basis for a 30-level 'illusionist wizard' build with powers for every level.

It might also give us a few clues as to how a Shadow source illusionist class might work. I'm thinking it will be similar to the Beguiler from 3rd edition and get some thief-like skill selections and powers.

Well we have slots for up to two new builds per class per 'Powers' book.

Arcane power:
Wizard - I'm think instead of a 'illusionist' build there will be like a 'clever wizard' build or something like that. One that does slightly less damage, but has interesting riders and things with weird effects and illusions of course. Will begin to appease the people who miss using spells for strange things. A summoner is also pretty likely, or just a crap load of spells for the other builds. Familiars are likely a feat rather than a build. Though could theroetically replace the implement focus ability.
Warlock - Blood, Dragon or dream pacts all sound quite likely.
Sorceror - Hard to speculate until we've seen the class.
Bard - The Cha/Dex build sounds likely. Not sure what else though.

Divine - (going to skip Warden and Invoker until we know what they do)
Cleric - cloistered cleric? (ie: fewer weapons, less armour, more magic) not sure what else. Summoner?
Paladin - beastmaster like build with a summoned mount; unsure otherwise.

I doubt the Cleric will get a cloistered cleric build because I think the Invoker has killed the cloistered cleric and taken it's stuff.

I think likely is that all builds will be expanded with additional powers, as is I'm having trouble coming up with additional builds that aren't covered by each class.

I noticed several people mention builds that have a change in stats used. Its important to keep in mind that in MP no new stats were made use of:

Dex (tempest) and Con (battlerager) are both already listed as fighter stats (though the fighter has more stats then anyone else)

Str and Wis are the key stats for a Beast companion ranger and no different from the key stats of any other melee ranger

Ruffian uses strength as its secondary the same as brutal

Bravura uses cha as its secondary and resourceful uses both int and cha but thats still the same stats warlords used in the PHB

So I find it unlikely that any of the builds that use a new stat will actually be seen

It's sort of listed as a main Paladin stat, so we may see a Con-based Paladin build, maybe a Holy Battlerager-esque build. An Aura-din, based on Wis and/or Cha could be possible, too. I don't see a mounted build happening, as it would face restrictions in many settings, since ya can't have a horse everywhere you go.

As for Clerics, unfortunately any caster build I think of would conflict with what I see the Invoker being. Perhaps another Strength based build, something defender-like that sort of plays more similar to a Warlord or Protecting Paladin, but retaining its Clerical ways.

Paladin:

Expatriate--devoted to the Diety, but on the outs with the organized worship.

Black Knight--Evil Paladin (Maybe reserved for DMG II)

Bodyguard--powers center around protecting a specific ally (Like standing between the squishy and the creatures trying to squish him)

Cleric:

Medic--The traditional Armoured ambulance, gets further bonuses on Healing abilities?

Chaplain--A calming presence on the battlefield that can keep the party's cool in a hot fight. Might overlap the Inspiring Warlord too much though.

Warlock:

Death Pact--Necrotic damage out the wah zoo, possible use of other powers that mimic iconic Undead damage (like inflicting a variant of mummy rot, draining a healing surge or foes that would have them).

Elemental pact--Elemental damage and potentially extra hinderances for their targets.

Wizzard:

Transmuter--Alters the terrain of the battle field to throw the enemy into disarray.

Summoner--Brings friends to tip the odds in tough fights.

Personally, I would absolutely LOVE to see a Primordial warlock pact.

My predictions:

Paladin: Cavalier: Celestial Mount feature will work similar to Beast Companions for Rangers, with an At-Will power used to summon it. Not sure which Class feature will be given up for it: Lay on Hands seems most likely. Would probably be strength-focused.

Swordmage: Aegis of Retribution: This is just wild speculation on my part. Since we have an Aegis that lets the Swordmage attack foes, and shield allies, perhaps there will be one that lets a Swordmage inflict penalties on foes. Not sure how it would work exactly: Maybe the next attack to hit them would gain a bonus to damage = to the Swordmage's strength modifier?

Warlock: Elemental Pact: Striking deals with Primordials seems okay to me.

Wizard: Rod Implement Mastery: They're masters of magic. I could see it happening.

There will also be Arcane Archetype and Divine Archetype epic destinies. This is the only thing I'm almost completely sure of.

Also, I believe Arcane Power will introduce familiars into 4E. If this is so, they will definitely be for Wizards. Other arcane classes may have familiars as well, although I can't say for certain.

I want a character who can create duplicates of himself as his prime ability. The duplicates could have 1 hp like a minion and could be used as shields as they jump in the way of attack, they could run in for a hit instead of you, they could be used as platforms and ladders, since they just vanish in a few seconds anyways. They would help with combat advantage and it'd be neat to have that sort of mechanic. I would see them as kind of being like the ranger's beast, only temporary and expendable. Maybe work kind of similar to glamor blade for the swordmage, but no sharing hp. This could probably be done by reflavoring the beast master ranger now that I think about it....

I predict the Warden will get something like "Beastheart" a leaderish option, which will add charisma to AC with light armour and will give allies a bonus when Second Wind is used.

Elemental is going to be it's own power source and i dont know if that includes primordial or not

But Primordial Pact might be interesting

Nightmare Pact makes the most sense for the next Pact

So, yeah, speculating...

Arcane:
Wizard - At least 1 new Implement, possibly two. I hope for Tomes, and as a second choice Athame/Daggers (though that may slide over into the warlock via Pact Blades).
I also hope to see some spells that grant bonuses for specific Implements, the way that most other classes grant benefits for a specific build option, or the way that certain warrior powers grant bonuses by weapon group.

Warlock - Two new pacts, Minimum. I expect to see an Elemental/Primordial pact, and hope it involves random elemental damage types. I.E. damage type is determined randomly.
A second pact could be pretty much anything.
More pact weapons, but probably not much else.

Sword-Mage - Alternate weapon build, though what weapon they use I don't know. Maybe Spear-Mage.
Certainly a new Aegis power.
Theory

Lets see, Defender powers.
Warrior = Marked in melee range shift or attach others, free attack.
Paladin = Marked attacks other, Auto Damage.
Assault = Marked attacks other, Port and OA.
Defense = Marked attacks other, Damage soak.
So what could a new aegis do?

I can see there being builds for a "darker" paladin or cleric... although, I remember a person posting on a thread about the Shadow Power Source or something speculation that the Necromancer may be a Shadow Leader, and quite similar to 3E's Evil Clerics, so i don't know.
