| #1Dragon9Jul 22, 2009 17:50:07 | I posted this in another thread originally, but everyone seemed content to bash eah other over the Giths. ![]() The one thing I wonder about with PHB3 is: Are we goign to see a new mechanic for Divine and Primal classes? Likely not, however, in the Design and Develpment article on Psionics the devs stated that they were waiting until PHB3 before they started throwing in more complicated classes that worked outside the normal structure. So there seems to be the possibility that there may be something new for those power sources. Anyone care to speculate on what such a beast would look like? (or what they'd like to see?) |

The basics exist now, but there's really no class that's specifically designed for using a horse or that to fight. I could easily see a Primal class based on a kind of nomadic tribal warrior based on a cross between a mongol and a native american; preferably a ranged striker/controller that used a shortbow to whip the enemy into a confused panic (mounted cavalry have always been good for shock and awe). As for new mechanics, it would probably be important to build some sort of special mechanic to allow the class to "summon" his horse into places it normally couldn't get to (the fluff could be something like "the beast is led along a trail of mystical energy through a place of ancestral spirits"), like in a dungeon or on a boat. Also, if a mount plays such a vital role, it would be a good idea to make it more versatile or special in some way, and such augmentation could easily be repurposed for a Paladin's Mount mechanic in later books. Perhaps giving it special powers of its own, something like the ranger's beast companion. Also, if they include the Witch, or a similar concept, I think it would be interesting to see a primal version of the Arcane Familiar. I think it would be cool to have it be a real animal with an empathic link involving your bond with nature, and so forth, and to have it actually be able to do something of its own in battle (not necessarily attack, but it would be interesting if the Witch could use her familiar to buff herself or debuff enemies). |
