Awww, no PHB3 preview. I was hoping to see another one.

As for Revenant it appears from what I have gleamed from google to be a Undead.

Isn't Turaglas a demon lord? Why is he listed on Draconomicon?

1) Fell Taints still make me snicker.

2) Revenants are perhaps the Undying Court from Eberron?

3) Yay for Bard stuff!

That's what I got as well, wonder if it is a disguised playtest (like the minotaur) that will eventually appear in the PHB with the shadow power source

A type of undead similar to a wight.

But why would it them be a "Playing " article? It sounds like a PC race.

Ugh, an Ecology of a very boring monster thats only got it because of a stupid legacy, ugh. Playing Revenants should be cool.

Revenants are typically portrayed as having been animated to undeath for the completion of a specific (usually vengeance-related) task. See the Crow for a pop-culture example.

And, based on the other "Playing: (Insert Race here)" Articles, that means that we'll soon have a core zombie-like race to play. I'm very...intrigued.

This could be quite interesting if they're releasing a playable undead race. Is this a possible preview for one of the races to appear in PHB3? Not sure, though I'd imagine an undead race would be saved for the release of the Shadow source, since that will probably include the necromantic classes.

If the revenant is a PHB3 race, then it might be a sign that one of the new divine or primal classes may deal with undead/spirits (Exorcist/Medium?).

The Draconomicon Turaglas is probably a misstype - it could be actually Demonomicon. I'm excited for Revenants. They'll probably be updated for PH4 with Shadow as well, assuming they are a PC Shadow (Undead) race. The only thing I'm worried a tiny bit about is that people will call it out as a further example of 4e = WoW (Revenant = Forsaken).

Personally, I was hoping for PC Blasphemes, but this is good too.

The other thing is that the Ecology of the Rustmonster - could that be a tentative for the Ecology of the Adamantine Dragon, put there before they figured out the winner? The problem with this theory of mine, though, is that that would mean they're making the article in only a few weeks, not quickly enough for the end of the contest to the article's release. We'll probably, therefore, get Ecology of the Adamantine Dragon or some such article in July or later.

Just wanna point out that the idea of intelligent "awakened" undead has been around WAYYY longer than WoW, and I think it's safe to tell people so! I mean honestly, is there really a difference between saying "We have an undead race. D&D=WoW" and "We have a fighter, a wizard, and an elf. D&D=Gauntlet (arcade version of course)"? That's like saying "I have brown hair. Tom Cruise has brown hair. I=Tom Cruise." Just because two things share a common detail does not mean they are inherently the same.

Ok. Rant over (especially since no one even actually said D&D=WoW. Guess that's just been building up =P).

I don't know how I'd feel about Blasphemes. Could be cool...could be...weird. "My character has the head of a dwarf, the arms of a goliath, the left leg of an elf, the right leg of an eladrin, the body of a storm genasi, and the tail of a tiefling." ;)

I was kinda hoping for Blasphemes as well, mostly because Frankenstein is one of my all time favorite books. But then again Warforged is a quick reflavor away from Blaspheme.

But Revenants are always cool, especially if they make good Avengers. Vengeance from the grave is a classic setup.

Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

Do we need to take everything from WoW and put it in D&D? Do we really need to mainstream undead PCs?

Revenants were great tools for a creative DM in 1E... they could bring back a foe that the PCs felled at a low level as a high level - really scary - enemy. I can't see how they'll twist that concept into a PC race. I'm betting this is just another case of name appropriation.

Hmm... is it at all possible that the Revenant might be the third race in the Eberron Player's Guide? I never really had the chance to get too heavily into the setting, but isn't one of the nations rather heavily invested in necromancy, with a large amount of intelligent undead troops in its army?

Alternatively, could it be a sign that the picture of the PHB3 cover in that news article was a fake, meaning we may get Shadow in the PHB3 as well?

If not either of them, then chalk me up with the "PHB4 Shadow-Themed Race" slot. I'm wondering how closely this will tie to the "old" revenant lore, which made them slain living beings brought back by an overwhelming urge for vengeance.

Lols. Because everything in 4e = WoW, right? Here's a clue: http://home.flash.net/~brenfrow/rv/rv-req.htm

The third EPG race is 99% most likely going to be the Doppleganger/Changeling. And I sincerely doubt the "Divine/Primal" label on the PH3 cover is a placeholder. The most likely outcome is that if Revenants get put in a PH (which is pretty likely considering the Warforged, Minotaur, and almost certainly Shadar-kai), it'll be in whichever one gets the Shadow source as your last bit said.

Indeed. If WotC wasn't ready to reveal all power sources for PHB3 they would have either left that bar blank (they do it all the time with M:tG previews) or they would have inserted something silly like "playing psionic, banana, and pudding heroes" (likely in a scribbled handwritten font). Putting plausible power sources on the cover that aren't intended to be in the actual book would just be asking for trouble.

Anyway, I'm psychic for revenants. Also, Forbidden Forge looks intriguing (sent me scuttling through my old 3.5 books to check to see if it was a remake of the intro adventure from the original ECS, but turns out that adventure was Forgotten Forge).

Forbidden Forge could also be a spinoff of The Forge of Fury, the old 3.0 (3.5?) adventure set in the dwarven fortress.

Fell taints, are shadowfell taints(very likely) Gotta remember that revenants were around before even D&D was more than a glimmer of thought. Draconomicon Turaglas - this could be a mistype OR it could be the name of a dragon found in the pages of the draconomicon.

Rustmonster eology, sounds interesting, but I will only be glancing through it anyway.

Looks like the Class Acts articles are making a return after a bit of a hiatus - 6 months or more?

The third EPG race is 99% most likely going to be the Doppleganger/Changeling.

If you go to the Excerpts:EPG Self-Forged Page and scroll to the bottom.
You will find a picture of a Doppleganger/Changeling scheduled to appear for tomorrows EPG Excerpts.
So I think it pretty much 100% they will be in the EPG

Ok...I have a problem with the calendar. It lists EPG Excerpts until 6-22, but it lists the release date of the EPG as "5-19". I assume it means 6-23 as it's listed as "Released Tomorrow" on the 22nd. But Amazon has been telling me that it'll be released on 6-16. I know to trust WotC over Amazon, but I'm curious as to what caused this particular mishap.

Revanants being a likely Shadow race only improves the theory that all playing race articles are slated for PHBs after about a year and a half of further development to work out the kinks.

As such, I expect Gnolls (with a fixed Gnoll Clawfighter feat) to be in PH3. (alongside the Monk and Minotaur)

The ones from the 15th onward are ECG, not EPG. I don't know if you just misread it, or if it was originally labelled wrong and recently fixed.

If you mean the Religion article, she looks more like a Drow to me.

That said, I have no doubt Dopplegangers are a lock for the EPG anyway.

I predict Revenants and the Shadow power source for PHB 4 in 2011. ;)

Could have been either...most likely it was both. They seem to have changed the release date of the EPG back to the 16 like I thought...
