| #1chumbaporkinsAug 06, 2010 16:15:32 | Click Here Any thoughts? |
| #2efutchAug 06, 2010 16:27:17 | Sure, why not? I've been playing LFR for a year now and couldn't tell you more than 5 things about FR. Maybe I'll actually pick this up. |
| #3VaultDwellerAug 06, 2010 16:36:16 | Anyone seen any other info? |
| #4yellerSumnerAug 06, 2010 16:42:54 | I think I wouldn't have minded if I didn't find this out until 10:00 tomorrow when there will be more information. =P Does the slide say "product" or "products"? |
| #5VaultDwellerAug 06, 2010 17:23:13 | I think I wouldn't have minded if I didn't find this out until 10:00 tomorrow when there will be more information. =P I don't know, I can't make out any text on that slide other than the FR logo. |
| #6yellerSumnerAug 06, 2010 17:36:57 | Did you enlarge it? Best I can read it, [FR logo] |
| #7greatfritoAug 06, 2010 17:40:55 | Cool for FR, I guess? Anounce the same for Eberron and maybe Dark Sun, along with more Adventure Sites, and some tantalizing new mechanics... and maybe I'll be interested in 2011's offerings. |
| #8VaultDwellerAug 06, 2010 17:42:01 | Ahh, I didn't realize that my NoScript plugin was blocking scripts from twitpic, I had no idea that the image could be enlarged. Now that I've seen it full size, I think what you have written is exactly correct. |
| #9yellerSumnerAug 06, 2010 17:51:16 | Cool for FR, I guess? They're releasing three settings, then revisiting the first? 4e is a Pokemon rip off! Though, by that standard, we'd a 4th setting before we got more Eberron stuff. |
| #10ranadielAug 06, 2010 18:30:26 | Meh? I guess they needed to release Essentials compatible campaign settings, so they will just be reseting the entire campaign cycle now. :P |
| #11_Mithreinmaethor_Aug 06, 2010 19:15:43 | Sure, why not? Thats because of the way WOTC screwed up the campaign having their hands too deep into it. The "reset" or "new focused" LFR starting in January will be more story based and should, I HOPE, involve you more in a regions goings ons and give you a better familiarity with the region etc |
| #12Cyber-DaveAug 06, 2010 21:29:41 | I would get excited over new Eberron or Dark Sun material. I like FR enough to buy 3 books for the setting. More then that, I don't know. I will probably buy it anyway. But I am not super excited. |
| #13AegeriAug 06, 2010 21:38:43 | An FR book on the planes would be fantastic and ripe for stealing for other settings. So long of course as it doesn't add more stupid God soap opera nonsense and leaves them alone. |
| #1418DELTAAug 06, 2010 21:45:10 | A few weeks ago Matt James was asking questions about the Fugue plane in the FRLore section. When someone asked why a free lance writer was asking questions about the plane Matt James's answer was sort of a wink wink nudge nudge. That was me. ![]() I called it! ![]() Well I hope I called it right. ![]() Looks like we will know tomorrow. ![]() ![]() |
| #15The_SilverswordAug 06, 2010 23:08:16 | Well its about bloody time!!! |
| #16sfdragonAug 06, 2010 23:17:25 | we shall see or we will be riding a pale orse named Wiki through tthe western heartlands |
| #17celticmuttAug 06, 2010 23:22:20 | I think this is further evidence that there will be no new/updated setting for 2011, unless it's PoL as a full setting. |
| #18sfdragonAug 06, 2010 23:38:02 | I think this is further evidence that there will be no new/updated setting for 2011, unless it's PoL as a full setting. and now on the eve before battle, listen well my brothers in arms, the next setting will be PoL as a full setting. well 9 hells it might as well be, you see; with every 4e spal they put out that was not a Setting specific splat was aslways attached to the core setting that was pol or nentwhatever vale. all of them. and with the setting crossing novels comming out, it will either be POL or it will be SpellJammer 4e equiviliant |
| #19Janx_14Aug 07, 2010 0:43:23 | Yay more books to get with the CB, maybe they'll make spellscars like, useful this time around. Eberron or Darksun i might consider buying it, but slightly different PoL doesn't interest me. |
| #20marius4Aug 07, 2010 2:57:15 | I do not want them to release PoL as a distinct setting; I like it vague and malleable as the core D&D world. Even the novels line makes me squirm! Just mho. Keeping it unnamed fits well with their push to encourage DMs & players to be creative with the game as a baseline. Re: a new FR sourcebook.....is this all we have to go on??? It just says "print RPG products." I feel uncharacteristically skeptical.....Couldn't this just be, like, Player Races: Drow? Or FR: Essentials? Or getting back to the positive, maybe it's like an improved companion to the FRCG that covers the areas without entries in that volume. FRCG2 if you will. |
| #21AcrilosAug 07, 2010 3:35:56 | I wouldn't mind new books on the Forgotten Realms setting. I was a bit disappointed with the FRCS book due to the scarce information it contains regarding each region (sometimes you only have info on one or two cities or towns at best). In 3rd edition campaign setting there was a lot more info, most of which is not usable due to the new timeline and the Spellplague event. As soon as you create adventures in places remote from the largest cities, you practically have to create everything. Sure that way the setting remains very open and malleable but offcial information is always nice to have about specific places. But releasing more FR books isn't against the policiy WotC planned all along about all setting they were to release? Of course they might change their mind in the long run. |
| #22DuskweaverAug 07, 2010 5:10:53 | I do not want them to release PoL as a distinct setting; I like it vague and malleable as the core D&D world. Even the novels line makes me squirm! Just mho. Keeping it unnamed fits well with their push to encourage DMs & players to be creative with the game as a baseline. I think it would be OK if they stuck to just detailing the Nentir Vale area and maybe some history of Bael Turath, Arkhosia and Nerath. As long as they don't try to detail the whole world in the same way they have for Eberron or Toril, I'll be happy. Anyway, if the PoL setting becomes a 'proper' campaign setting, when people talk about Eberron, FR and DarkSun as being the official 4th edition campaign settings, we can then say: "You forgot PoLand!" I think it's worth WotC doing a PoL sourcebook just for that alone. |
| #23ah_stormbringerAug 07, 2010 7:52:58 | While I welcome this, does it not go against what Wizards has said from the beginning that there would be two books per setting. I do think that FR needs more material due to the changes made to the setting due to the spell plague but if this is another reset of the setting for essentials then they can keep it, I have better things to spend my money on. Eberron recieved very few changes from the earlier editions and most of the old material is still valid and useful so I think that setting can wait for another year before getting anything new. |
| #24MarandahirAug 07, 2010 11:17:16 | Bladesinger Class in the Neverwinter Nights Campaign Guide. I assume this is what it's talking about. >__> |
| #25GMforPowergamersAug 07, 2010 11:27:25 | Bladesinger Class in the Neverwinter Nights Campaign Guide. I wonder why it is it's own class instead of a essential style build for swordmage... I mean it just screams swordmage |
| #26MarandahirAug 07, 2010 11:30:18 | I know… the fluff is basically Eladrin Swordmage. I don't know what else is going to come of it. Maybe they'll wrap a bit of Bard into it too, and emphasise the Singing? |
| #27yaldabaothAug 07, 2010 11:47:29 | I know… the fluff is basically Eladrin Swordmage. I was thinking Essentialized Swordmage, but now that you mention it, Essentialized Bard works OK, too. |
| #28MarandahirAug 07, 2010 13:01:13 | I wonder why it is it's own class instead of a essential style build for swordmage... I mean it just screams swordmage Maybe the new class thing was a mistake, and it's a new kit for Swordmages? Maybe a striker kit, at that. |
| #29VaultDwellerAug 07, 2010 13:22:21 | New kits are nearly indistinguishable from existing classes, so that's a very possible mistake. |
| #30The_SilverswordAug 07, 2010 16:27:42 | Bladesinger Class in the Neverwinter Nights Campaign Guide. From what I understand, theyve been tossing around the Bladesinger idea for 4e for awhile now, but couldnt decide if it should be a build for bards or swordmages, or possibly a paragon path, maybe they just decided it would be easier to make it its own class? IM looking foward to see what they do with it, how will they make it stand apart from the Swordmage and Bard? |
| #31celticmuttAug 07, 2010 17:59:11 | Huh? Where's this Bladesinger and Neverwinter Guide stuff coming from? |
| #32snarls_at_fleasAug 07, 2010 18:01:45 | Huh? Where's this Bladesinger and Neverwinter Guide stuff coming from? GenCon announcment |
| #33The_JesterAug 07, 2010 18:51:18 | They LIED!!!! They said they'd only every publish three books for each setting. LIES!!! I'm totally kidding. As an BioWare loving (Edmontonian too) NWN fan I'm adoring this announcement. I winced at the lack of Neverwinter in the FRCG, so I guess they'd planned this product. But still happy. |
| #34greatfritoAug 07, 2010 22:45:25 | I'm going to hope that this Bladesinger "class" is just one of these "not a new class at all" essentials subclasses, that is mechanically completely distinct (except for Utility Powers, and [some] class feats). I can't imagine a full independant Blandesinger class... Fighter X Wizard = Swordmage? Swordmage X Bard = Bladesinger? ![]() |
| #35DuskweaverAug 08, 2010 4:40:16 | I've not heard or read anything from an actual WotC employee saying outright that the bladesinger is a new class. It's only (AFAIK) been mentioned in the context of "the Neverwinter book has the bladesinger for levels 1-30". So we don't know if it's a whole new class, or a build for the swordmage or bard (or some other class), an 'Essentials'-style subclass/build, a set of powers accessed similarly to the way spellscar powers work, a theme, or something else entirely. A lot of what's being reported from GenCon is like a game of Chinese Whispers. |

| TweetDeck"DuskweaverAug 08, 2010 12:47:42 | From the Official D&D Twitter page: "Neverwinter Campaign Guide: Expanding on a favorite from Forgotten Realms. New bladesinger class 1-30 11:58 AM Aug 7th via TweetDeck" OK, but who is actually writing that? Is it someone who is in a position to genuinely know, like a dev who actually worked on/is working on the Neverwinter book, or is it just some low-level WotC staffer who sat in on the seminar and whose interpretation of what he/she heard is as valid as anyone else tweeting from said seminar? In other words, is the word "class" used in that tweet because the person writing it actually knows something that wasn't stated explicitly in the seminar, or have they just assumed the bladesinger must be a class? |
| TweetDeck"MarandahirAug 08, 2010 13:55:35 | From the Official D&D Twitter page: "Neverwinter Campaign Guide: Expanding on a favorite from Forgotten Realms. New bladesinger class 1-30 11:58 AM Aug 7th via TweetDeck" Agreed. I'm hoping it's a mistake, and is a new-style build for Swordmages. |
| #40sfdragonAug 08, 2010 15:38:21 | I'm not. I hope it is its own class but if its a version of the SM, than it better still be elf/drow/eladrin only. |
| #41LitigationAug 08, 2010 16:14:31 | Maybe it's an Essentials-style subclass for the Swordmage (or maybe Bard). That'd be the most logical explanation. Also, yay Neverwinter. |
| #42celticmuttAug 08, 2010 17:50:26 | I'm not. That is not going to happen. Builds/classes do not get race restricted. Only feats, PPs, and EDs do thankfully. |
| #43HippolyteAug 08, 2010 18:04:07 | Wizards of the Coast will allow all races to be a Bladesinger, but they can always write up some optional, flavoursome text explaining how this is possible. |
| #44McnancyAug 08, 2010 18:35:45 | It could very well be it's own class; keep in mind that they made Runepriest into it's own class, so logic doesn't really come into play here |
| #45celticmuttAug 08, 2010 18:43:58 |
I think it didn't appear until the 2e book Complete Book of Elves, but I don't remember. |
| #46thaxAug 08, 2010 21:19:14 | In the semenar, the main speaker said the Bladesinger class and let be at that to be the "Spoiler" for the book. I assume it is a full class instead of a PP or ED. I think it could be done with Eladrin and Elves getting some sort of bonus throughout the class that is not available to the other races. (possibly having Drow get different type of bonus) The last is just me thinking.... |
| #47Cyber-DaveAug 08, 2010 21:59:24 | I'm not. If they are going to implement race restrictions at all, why would they allow drow to be bladesingers? The 2e kit was NOT available to drow, only regular elves. According to the fluff, drow did not have bladesingers. I can't remember if half-elves were allowed or not. I want to say no... |
| #48Janx_14Aug 08, 2010 22:13:13 | Bringing back racial restrictions would be bad, very bad. |
| #49Cyber-DaveAug 08, 2010 23:40:50 | You know, generally speaking I am very anti "only this race can be this class" rules. Why can't a halfling pick up a sword and start fighting? Stereotypes are fine, enforcing them is lame. But this class is so steeped in "elf only" fluff that I really don't think I would mind if they made it race restricted... |
| #50DuskweaverAug 09, 2010 3:44:55 | In the semenar, the main speaker said the Bladesinger class He didn't actually use the word 'class', though. At least assuming I'm listening to the audio of the correct seminar? the essentials elves (which can also be Dex/Int apparently). Source for this? I'm not doubting you personally, but this is not something I've heard before and it sounds... odd to me for several reasons (and not in a good way). |
| #51Cyber-DaveAug 09, 2010 9:09:23 | the essentials elves (which can also be Dex/Int apparently). It has been confirmed by people who have played the Red Box. In the Red Box elves get a +2 to Dex/Int. |
| #52DuskweaverAug 10, 2010 9:18:22 | It has been confirmed by people who have played the Red Box. In the Red Box elves get a +2 to Dex/Int. Yeah, I've seen that now. I'm not pleased with the choice of Int. What happened to elves favouring martial and primal classes over the arcane? Eladrin are supposed to be the heavily arcane-themed elven race. ![]() |
| #53Cyber-DaveAug 10, 2010 12:04:22 | It has been confirmed by people who have played the Red Box. In the Red Box elves get a +2 to Dex/Int. I am less pleased by their choice for Eladrin. I am ok with elves getting a choice between +2 Wis/Int. They used to be all magical back in the day, prior to the Eladrin/Elf split, and WotC is really trying to capture some retro flavor. Ok, I can buy that. But I have heard (possibly eroneously) that Eladrin will be a +2 Int and a choice between +2 Dex/Wis. Really!? Everyone and their mothers has been crying out for a +2 Dex/Cha for eladrin (because it makes the most sense thematically), and they choose to give them an option for Wisdom? I really hope I have heard wrong on that count... |
| #54masterfat78Aug 10, 2010 13:09:59 | Shouldnt elves who are the old edition wild and wood elves get dex and wis/cha instead of int/wis? They scream sorcer more than wizard to me. |
| #55celticmuttAug 10, 2010 13:14:28 | . What? Eladrin haven't been revealed yet as far as I know. They're not even supposed to be in the Red Box. |
| #56Cyber-DaveAug 10, 2010 14:09:52 | . I may have been given some missinformation on this count. Like I said, this is just something I have heard, not something I have seen in print from an offical source myself. I may have heard wrong, and I hope that I have. |
| #57Cyber-DaveAug 10, 2010 14:17:17 | Shouldnt elves who are the old edition wild and wood elves get dex and wis/cha instead of int/wis? They scream sorcer more than wizard to me. Not really. The 2e wood elves did not get a bonus to cha. Wood elves actually got a bonus to strength, so in keeping with the 2e wood/wild elf theme "elves" in 4e should probably get a +2 dex and then a choice between +2 strength or +2 wis. But the essentials books do not attempt to be trying to cement their "wood elf" nature. Rather, they seem to be trying to bring back some of the 2e and 3e "elf as archer and wizard" flavor, making Eladrin more of a brand new race by extension, and not another flavor of an earlier edition elf. With that in mind, a +2 Int makes sense. Elves were not known to be sorcerers in older editions (indeed, sorcerers as we know them didn't really exist until 3e, and elves were not known to be sorcerers there either), but wizards. Long life gives them a long time to study the magical arts and all that, or some such... P.S. If I remember correctly, wood elves also received a penalty to Charisma. But it has been a long time since I looked at my older edition books, which are currently in storage, so I could be wrong about that. |
| #58celticmuttAug 10, 2010 15:37:39 | But the essentials books do not attempt to be trying to cement their "wood elf" nature. You know, at first I was kinda annoyed that Elves were getting +Int because they would be blurring the lines a bit there. But now that you mention this ... anything that keeps the Elves as Elves and gets rid of the "Eladrin are Elves" in favor of "Eladrin are Fairies" is fine by me. |
