So according to those who got thier Forgotten Realms Player's Guide, the guide announced the new name for the Aasimar; Deva. Which most likely wraps up the De Race mentioned in PHB II.

If it's not Deva, then almost anything is fair game. We could be looking at Mindflayers, Giths, Mephlings, Archons, Spikers, even pixies. There are so many options.

My personal vote goes for Githyanki (followed by Mercane, Dabus and Illumians, just for a WTF factor ).

I'm voting for Deva being in both Manual of the Planes(MM style race) and in PHBII(full PC write up with feats).

Why bother with a MM-style write up in the Manual of the Planes if the full-scale version of the race will be released earlier with the Player's Handbook 2? Makes no sense to me.

As to what race/races we get from the Manual of the Planes, I'm indifferent- but in a good way. I look forward to whatever comes ou.

The Manual of the Planes comes out in 12/08 and the PH2 comes out 3/09.

I bet you're right. I remember reading somewhere (most likely nothing official), stating that it would be a monstrous manual style race.

We have a fey race(eladrin), an immortal race(tiefling), a shadow race(shadar-kai), and an elemental race(genasi). I believe the next outsider race will have an abberant origin.

hey we only have quick play MM stats for shadar kai...I hope the full write up is coming...but an aburation would be nice...along with maybe an undead?!?!?

I'm really hoping for a playable aberrant race; Who doesn't want to pl;ay a Beholder or Mindflayer now and again?

These. This is what I heard, too, and what I feel is most likely.

Besides, aren't PC-race write-ups supposed to be limited to Player's Guides, Player's Handbooks, and DDI now? The idea is that player's shouldn't need to buy every DM-targeted splatbook to have access to what is essentially player material.

Look for Deva PCs after PH2.

Yeah, but the fact is that we don't have any stats for a native of the Far Realm, and we CAN play a shadow character.

Well they are renaming the Gnome to Grapefruit....:P

Edit: Oh yeah I almost forgot, TSR was the ones who introduced that name into D&D so make sure you put the blame in the right place. :P

I should note that "deva" is pronounced, "day-va" and is the Sanskrit word for, "god." It is the root of the words, "deus," "deity," and "Zeus."

It is NOT the same as "diva" (i.e. female singer). Totally different pronunciation.

I think it is a great name.

Yep and in Hindi beliefs deva's weren't always gods but also demons. Many weren't nice at all. They were like primordial nature spirits that were fairly destructive. Most representations of devas though are the equivalent to Christian angels.

My vote is for Shade in the Planes book.

The Shadar-kai will be in the book that introduces the Shadow power source.

If it's just a MM write-up, I hope it is the Deva. That way I can incorporate them into my world as soon as possible.

Doesn't make sense. There is a Shade template in FRCG. Unnecessary duplication.

I would like an aberrant race. But, you have to admit an MM-style Deva is the most likely candidate.

Any reason to think that it will just be one? The FRPG has two new fullblown races and new racial feats for many (all?) of the core races.

The 3.0 or 3.5 version of MoP had a lot of PC races. I'm going to second the vote for the interplanar goatmen. But there are many that I would like to see, and I'll hope for at least 2 or 3 until my hopes are dashed.

It was stated that there would be a playable race with no indication of being plural.

Does anyone remember those guys, Gith rebels who fled to Arcane Space instead of the Astral and Limbo/Elemental Chaos?

Aww yeah!! :D Let's see, there's Githyanki, githzerai, Pirates of Gith, Dark Sun Gith (not sure if there's any relation), any others?

I've been waiting for Aasimar.

No, but the actual Yankees of Gith of the Astral did try to raid Athas in a module.

Correct. "Diva" actually comes from the latin adjective divus-a-um. A diva is, quite literally a rich woman...

I believe it was said by a staff member on their blog, but I can't remember who.

Greg Bilsland said the following:
The book does include a playable race, as well.

And that is all that I am aware of being said on the subject, and I just ran search in the staff blogs for Planes and found nothing else beyond Rich Baker saying he would talk about it later. So unless the search engine is missing some post, I believe you were just remembering this one wrong. However if the search is missing a post be sure to give the link so I can update the compilation thread with it.

Greg Bilsland said the following:

From later on in that thread:
To clarify, there's a difference between the aforementioned "playable race" and the full racial write-ups that will appear in the Player's Handbooks....However, as you'll note from the Monster Manual, there are a number of monstrous races that are still playable but do not receive the full page spreads that a race in the PHB gets.

It doesn't say it outright that it will be an MM-style entry. But it will certainly be less then we get in the PHBs.

Githyanki makes the most sense for MoP.

Though I've never understood the desire to include githyanki in materials as a playable race but the exclusion or hesitation to include githzerai.

KoboldAvenger

Sep 20, 2008 4:43:35
I suspect the Githzerai won't get a full PC race write-up until the rules for Monks and Psions and Psychic Warriors actually appear. All the Githyanki have to wait for is the Psychic Warrior, as they already have the Swordmage, Fighter and Warlock among their preferred classes.

Well the FR Player's Guide talks about Devas as the renamed Aasimar so unless they're in the PHB2 I suspect they'll show up in the Manual of the Planes. Since it likely won't be a full PC writeup like in the PHB (or drow and genasi in FRPG) they wouldn't do the githzerai and githyanki since those already have the MM-style writeups in the MM.

I very much hope that Gith see some love.

Seconded. Not a prediction, but rather a wish. I'd like to be able to roll up a Githyanki Artificer for Living Forgotten Realms, which would be legal if the Githyanki is written up in the MotP, even without a full PC write up. Unfortunately, I doubt that would be enough of a reason to overcome the redundancy pointed out by other posts in this thread.

In light of the likely MM style write up, Deva seems most likely. Maybe I'll like it better.

For Manual of Planes...I would like the return bariaur.

Spikers for a future soucerbook.

I'm against having Spikers ever show up in another sourcebook ever again. They were nothing more than a low-LA version of a Bladeling, and therefore need to be completely canned, so that there can just be Bladelings.

Luis_Carlos

Sep 24, 2008 15:49:21
Don´t worry. Notice the old changeling race from Eberron and doppelganger are now only a race/creature.

Perhaps new spikers and blandeling are similar races/monster but with diferent background (as elves/eladrin or githyanki/githzerai).

Buoman was a exotic race but its racial traits weren´t cool.

Perhap the meflings as little genasi could be a future pc race.
