i play 3.5 i noticed no more monks on 4.0 anybody know the reason why monks were removed? and is there still multiple attacks in 4.0 once you reached a level like in 3.5 when a fighter reaches level 6 he has 2 attacks?

Monks: No, no monks yet. They're holding off on them since they're grouping classes by "power source." Monks are Ki, so they'll be released with the rest of the Ki-based classes. In the mean time, there's a ranger -> monk conversion somewhere on the main site, I forget where.

Multiple attacks: No, not by default. However, your basic attacks start doing more damage by their onsies when you hit level 21. In addition, each class (fighters and rogues included!) has their own powers, some of which call for multiple attacks. Fighters also have a collection of "aura" type powers later that turn them into whirling death machines, doing weapon-based damage anyone who stands next to them.

Also, fair warning: threads like these can attract... heated discussion. The changes from 3.5 -> 4th are still a sore topic for some.

Avenger reflavored for Monk-ness? ...Seems like it would work pretty well, actually. Wisdom-based attacks, dexterity as a possible secondary stat, bonuses to AC in light armor / shieldless... yeah, seems like it would work pretty well! Not a lot of the multiple-attack when compared to rangers, though.

For 4e/3.5 crossover stuff, be careful. The systems have some pretty striking differences, so a direct conversion might not work out in terms of balance and congruence. You'd usually get better mileage from taking the fluff concept and saying "how could I accomplish this in the other edition?"

The Monk will be in the PHB3 which is scheduled for release next year. Although if you have a D&D insider subscription or know somebody with one, there will be a monk playtest next month.

As for conversions I'm afraid I've not much to say there.

For the moment, you can

- keep playing 3.5 edition (until next year and even beyond)
- subscribe to D&D insider and get the playtest monk (soon)
- search the net for a homebrew 4th edition monk

Avenger/monk? Becomes possible once there is a monk for 4th edition or an avenger for 3rd edition.

If you ask me, multiclassing is very much a 3rd edition thing, in 4th edition you're better off with a single class character in most cases.

The other option (and it's not a bad one) is to simply simulate a monk with the avenger class.

Start with one Avenger.

It's relitively easy to reskin "fists" as a martial weapon for a feat - sure it's not RAW, but most GM's aren't going to ***** about it.

Your other option is to use spiked gauntlets until you find a suit or armor or gloves that let you make powerful unarmed attacks if your DM absolutely insisted upon not letting you use unarmed.

belt of the brawler (adv.vault p.164) lets you treat your unarmed attacks as if you were armed with a club. it's a relatively low level item.

i'm sure working with your GM you could modify it so it ups the damage per tier (club @heroic -> mace @paragon-> morningstar @epic) and provide enchantment boosts (+1 @3, +2 @8, +3@13, ect) based on the version.

just an idea, basically re-imagining the old monk's belt.

Yes, many of us here did the Happy dance when we heard that the Monk was going to show up in May. I can't wait to see them in action. As long as you don't mind using a weapon the ranger and the avenger double as good 'monk-like' classes.

Stick with us kid. We'll see ya through till his Monkness makes an appearance.

Haven't crunched the numbers or anything, but an Avenger multiclassed into Ranger for the multiple-attack powers using reflavored spiked gauntlets sounds pretty interesting... Hunter's Quarry once an encounter for that nice wuxia-style finishing move... :D
