Obtaining Books in UK

Sep 20, 2008 3:34:14 Hi All,

Anyone know why in the UK we have to wait 3+ weeks post release till we can get copies of the Adventurers Vault etc ? Im sure releases in the US and UK used to be almost simultaneous on 3.5 stuff yet since 4ed we now have to wait a lot longer.

Such delays in getting books into the UK really dont help sell 4ed - in my experience people just get frustrated that they can't use what they clearly can read that others are using and eventually just switch back to old systems.

I suppose the question is who's fault is it. Poor logistics at WOTC or poor customer support from the UK book retailers and gaming industry. (what little still exists)

Sep 25, 2008 19:51:55 I have actually never had problems obtaining 4E books I infact got my PHB and MM On the 4th of whatever month the core came out :D (June? July?). That was through ordering from Amazon I will note that my local gaming shop's delivery this month is late so I will have to wait till Friday for my FRPG and the AV.

Amazon is usually very prompt, for me the core rule books actually arrived the day before the release date. I picked up Adventurer's Vault (and saw FRPG alongside it) from my FLGS a good few days before it became available on Amazon, though.

Or is this UK wide.

Just had my Amazon order notify me that delivery will be 22nd October at the earliest

Sep 27, 2008 3:57:50 I have had a lot of problems getting the AV, both Amazon (who I normaly use) and my very expensive FLGS do have it after it should have been released last Wednesday. As a player of computer games and owning a number of consoles it makes me mad that we are always playing second fiddle to the USA.

I love 4th ED and I hope the AV is only a glitch in the system. I hope I don't have these problems with the other books (Martials, PHB2, etc.).

The rumours here is that WoTC are putting the cuffs on Amazon so that the FLGS have a chance to sell their stuff first before Amazon comes in at a much lower price. Not sure if this is a tin foil hat rumor or if there is any truth to it? The first set of books came out on time from Amazon but the rest (including minatures) have been delayed.

In this case a trip to Germany is not that far and there you could get both books at their US street date

Oct 06, 2008 14:20:32 From Amazon my AV turned up on Friday, a day or two after my local gaming store had got it from their supplier. It says 'printed in the USA' on the back, so I guess the delay is in strapping it to halibut and letting them swim it across the Atlantic.

I assume it all comes down to print run sizes and relative costs, if it is cheaper to print extra in the US and ship them over than it is to print a smaller run in the EU that is what will happen, especially in this economic climate.
