You cannot deny this!   Was one of my favorite books of 3rd edition!  Did I ever make the races?  Nope!  Infact besides kobolds, I never made any kind of monster race.

But did I like having the stuff needed to make one if I wanted to?  YES!

Wizards... it is time.

I would definitely like to see a book with official write-ups for monster races as PCs (moreso than a system to make my own).

I am board for this. First of all, because Eberron requires orcs, goblins and lizardmen. Second of all, because kobolds have become an iconic monstrous race to fight in the published Fourth Edition adventures, so it makes sense that players exposed to them want to play them. Third of all, because gnolls, bladelings and kenku might get more support then.

I would apprciate a book like this as long as it came with a lengthy paragraph about how careful consideration should be put into allowing your players to use monster races. something that covers all the key points of why people think this boook shouldnt happen along with the "hey its fun to make a monster hero sometimes" sorta like the disclaimer in heroes of players handbook 3 that mentioned that these are very strange races and these kinds of heroes should be considered rare.

I would like to see this book be developed. Perhaps write ups for other monsterous races that haven't got stats yet. I would also want see more gnoll support (an flex stat is all I need) for feats and etc.

Sometimes it´s funny the creation of a "too exotic" PC. It´s like costumes for Halloween or carnival.

But...4th Ed hasn´t got many PC races. And don´t forget the headache about the level adjusment. I doubt the retun of the monster classes (I love the idea).... and the return of the most of the oficial 3rd PC races (although they have got level adjustmen 0).

My wish is the future 5th Ed would have got a second level-up XPs count about extra help (allies/sidesicks, pets, magic item, superpowers, vehicules or mounts, some special template like half-dragon...). You woulnd´t to give up levels of ordinary classes because the monster powers would be paid by the PXs to the second level-up count of "special help". Is a crazy idea? It may be, but it could be improved by WotC and used for a a new d20 Modern.

I think it would be great for Wizards to actually support monster races, seeing as they are already in the character builder. It's a good opportunity, and it would probably be less work than fleshing out a campaign setting, because players are already familiar with them from fighting them.

Hopefully they'll come to their senses and realize that it's their freakin' job to produce options for the game, and let the individual groups decide whether or not they want to use them.

Quoted for truth.  I mean, besides the general merit of having a Savage Species option (which I think is a good idea), Eberron specifically has room for goblins, kobolds, hobgoblins, full-blooded orcs, etc. as far more than monsters.  They should have gotten support long ago.  But better late than never.  Never is not an option.  Do you hear that, Wizards of the Coast?

Again, gotta quote for truth.  Come to your senses, WotC.  We have brains too.  We can make our own decisions.

I would happy for them to do monster PCs like the Vampire class.

They could do a Dragon class which, instead of choosing any race, you'd have to choose a Dragon race (Red, Copper, Green, etc.) that would have different stats and breath weapon effects. The Dragon class' powers would work off of Primary Ability instead of a fixed ability, allowing you to choose whatever Dragon you want to fulfill it. You'd start out medium at lvl 1, become large at lvl 11, and become huge at lvl 21.

I have not bought anything yet that has been released after Dark Sun.

I would preorder this book.

Make of that what you will.

Considering my blogging on the matter, it's already established that I would enjoy such a book. I'd also hope such a book would contain advice on reflavoring existing rules to make up for the gaps in the monster races, and ways to use existing monster races as mundane races.

Indeed. It also seems a bit contradictory, considering they just released The Book of Vile Darkness, which caters especially to evil characters. Playing a Lawful Good Gnoll Cavalier with the Knight Hospitaler theme and the Knight of Celestia paragon path is apparently less heroic than an Evil Dwarf Blackguard with the Reaver theme and the Idol of Darkness paragon path.

QFT. The post linked to in the nested quote (and similar expressions) sometimes make me feel like that "classic" fantasy world should be a racist's wet dream - because them "half-devils half-children" are stupid, witless barbarians who can't help but get defeated by the great white man. I mean, how comes I'm almost the only person who notices the correlation?

I'm not accusing anyone of actual racism. I'm just saying that similar experessions sound very unfortunate, reminding me of how in the old times white people have seen everybody who "isn't them" as stupid, evil monsters. I do like a big, dumb oaf as an enemy from time to time - but I never assigned that role to whole races. In my world, Ogres are all big, dumb oafs only because they and Oni are both effects of the same mutation of an ancient, inherently magical race. Ogres are dumb because they already were dumb before the transformation, which just made them look like what they are inside. Oni were the smarter ones who got turned into evil masterminds.

So yeah, I'd LOVE to have options to play anything that has two hands (to hold weapons) and is either Small or Medium (I think I could bear the complications of being Large size). Partially because my world has all sapient races virtually equal - partially because that "classic fantasy of us vs them" smacks me of some repressed feelings.
