| #1McnancyFeb 11, 2009 0:06:49 | Quite possibly my favorite thing about 4E is that the classes are never done, they can always be expanded on. Dark Pact, Beast Master, Ruthless Ruffian and the others are good examples of how far beyond the prototype you can go. So I want to hear some Ideas for new builds to our current classes, here are some of mine: Cleric: Prophetic Cleric/Favored Soul (Cha based powers, staffs, armor of faith, harmful and helpful auras) Fighter: Dualist Fighter (Dex based, light armored, some controlling), Grappler Fighter (unarmed, uses grabs and restraining atks, good for dwarves) Paladin: Painbearing/Martyr Paladin (provokes attacks like a bravlord for leader bonuses) Ranger: Beast-Rider (uses charges and stick and move tactics, ranged or melee) Rogue: Charlatan/Spy (Cha based, uses bluff to setup enemies) Warlock: Wish Pact (genies and djinns, side-effects, punishing yet potent) Warlord: True-Shot Presence (Int based, ranged leader for ranged allies) Wizard: ok personally I think a Wizard should be able to pick whatever wizard power they want without worrying about what build they are because that to me is what being a wizard is all about, so I think just more Implement Masteries and more powers in general is good Avenger: Censure of Slaying (uses crossbows, demon/vampire/witch hunter type) Barbarian: Wildsoul Totem (picks a power animal, some shapeshifting, bezerker types) Bard: Virtue of Enlightenment (storytelling, lore, philosophy), Virtue of Vice (aka the scary bard, it's the devil's music!) Invoker: Ur-Priest (less showy, more cruel, cloth armor) Shaman: Voodoo Shaman (uses the spirits of the ancestors, grampy bones type), also a build that does not use a pet would be cool. I don't like the Druid or Warden (don't ask) so I skipped em. But those are just a few off the top of my head, I want to hear other peoples ideas or even just what you think about mine. |

I think they're splitting the wizard specialties out over a lot of different power sources, but functionally, I figure we'll get them all. "Elemental" will have the elementalist wizards, "Shadow" will have the necromancy, etc. |
| #3Omni-WyvernilFeb 11, 2009 1:31:39 | Some random ideas for future builds: Shaman: - Warrior Spirit: Call upon the strength of the wolf or a similar spirit of ferocity to strengthen allies' attacks. - Guiding Spirit: Call upon the swiftness of the eagle or a similar spirit of guidance to allow them to strike the enemy's weak point. Druid: - Summoning build: A druid build that focuses on summoning beasts, similar to the wizard's summoning build. Paladin: - Mounted Cavalier: A build focused on the paladin's mount, as well as mounted and charging attacks. Cleric: - Nature Cleric: Calls upon the deities of nature to assist allies. - Death Cleric: Channels the spirits of the dead. Wizard: - Summoner: A wizard focused on summoning creatures from other planes. - Illusion Wizard: A wizard focused on spells of deception and trickery. |
| #4jlaurhughes_dupFeb 11, 2009 1:43:34 | Wizard: The two Wizard builds already exist in a way, the illusionist was shown a little in a Dragon article, back in June issue 364, and it has been confirmed in this Ampersand article that the Summoner Wizard will be appearing in Arcane Power. Of course if you don't have a subscription, you wouldn't know this. |
| #5McnancyFeb 11, 2009 11:46:56 | Mounted Cavalier: A build focused on the paladin's mount, as well as mounted and charging attacks. This is a classic archetype for sure, give em some immediate interrupt 'mount' attacks and a lot of knock down attacks. Cleric: Those would be cool, maybe even all they do is change your damage type and your channel divinity. You could make them something that any divine class can take. Also, I think more pacifist Cleric powers would be cool, so one could spend every turn just healing and sustaining zones, summons and auras that punish your enemies but you never attack anyone yourself. |
| #6KaldricFeb 11, 2009 12:11:51 | You could come up with tons and tons of cleric builds based on the domains from previous editions. They've already sort of got build 'features' in the domain powers. |
| #7McnancyFeb 11, 2009 13:49:05 | They've already sort of got build 'features' in the domain powers. You could make them into alternate channel divinities, and I think replacing radiant damage with another type would be more simple than coming up with a bunch more powers for every domain. |
| #8KaldricFeb 11, 2009 14:57:15 | You could make them into alternate channel divinities, and I think replacing radiant damage with another type would be more simple than coming up with a bunch more powers for every domain. Makes sense. Madness clerics do psychic damage, etc. |
| #9Potato-DragonFeb 12, 2009 5:08:19 | Well, I want to play a wizard that gets to wear a hat that says "wizzard" on it. Also, I can't actually fight, but anyone who tries to attack me gets eaten by sapient pearwood luggage. :P |
| #10KaldricFeb 12, 2009 15:56:16 | Just remember to let your DM give you a permanent Expeditious retreat. And take Linguisticsx5. |
| #11McnancyFeb 12, 2009 18:30:04 | It would be cool to see Skirmish make a return as an alternate of Hunter's Quarry Truename Invoker would be cool too |
| #12To11Feb 13, 2009 16:47:15 | Some ideas: Bard: Virtue of Lore/Knowledge (this might be too similar to Virtue of Cunning) Virtue of Jest/Comedy/Humor (same problem as above, I'd think) Wizard: ditto on the generalist theme, but I'm guessing familiars can be taken as an implement mastery replacement. Invoker: Covenant of Majesty (Charisma or "Balanced", focuses on fear and charm effects) Paladin: a "Purity" build. I'm thinking Charisma/Wisdom with aura type effects that involve healing/cleansing and powers that bind or banish. a Cavalier that has a special mount and focuses on fighting monsters (dragons and demons?) Warlock: Vestige Pact (close range/melee powers like the Soul Ruin power mentioned in races and classes) Sorcerer: Alienist (powers drawn from the Far Realm - similar to Wild Magic, but the "wrongness" of the far realms could be embraced a bit more) Cleric: I think that Divine Power's domains will go a long way toward individualizing Clerics (and other divine classes), so a truly new "build" may not be necessary. |
| #13glimeral_dupFeb 13, 2009 19:28:07 | Shouldnt the Warlord get the "Cavalier" build, since it seems to be a splinter of the Paladin's "Leader" self? |
| #14AcedonteFeb 14, 2009 17:13:21 | No one, Paladin or Warlord, should get a Cavalier build. A mounted build would be too limited in scope to be viable. Paladin: "I decided to go with the mounted build! Can't wait to charge around the battlefield with Ol' Silver!" DM: "Well, this campaign involves delving into several small, cramped dungeons. Have fun with your mount that can't move down half the corridors." Paladin: "Well, sorry Ol' Silver. Guess I'll just go Avenging and actually be able to do stuff..." Any class mounts should be limited to a PP or maybe a feat. 'Channel Divinity: Knight's Steed' anyone? |
| #15KaldricFeb 14, 2009 19:21:55 | It's kind of going off on a tangent. With the current setup, a build that focuses on mounted combat really doesn't work, unless everyone is mounted. So many of the powers, so much of the game, is focused on close-in fighting, within 100 ft. |
