Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone else would like to see Soft copy "Clean Skin" maps
(eg. player versions of the maps, no secret doors, traps, creatures, etc)

1 (one) Inch scale maps for published adventures and side treks available as downloads on the D&D website?

While I can re-size the published maps when i can get a soft copy or by scanning, the traps, secret doors and monsters are marked on the map, and thus it would be excellent to be able to download and then print (in color or B&W) 1 inch scaled maps for use in our games.

Does anyone else think this would be good?

Well, duh.

Would it be good? Of course it would.

Is it likely to happen? Not looking at WotC:s track record.

You can in fact download images of all published adventure maps from the Map Gallery. However, they are all at the printed scale and have to be resized. More importantly, all except one have all the symbols for monsters and whatnot on them (only P2 has "clean" maps provided).

Why is this the case? You'd have to ask WotC, but one thought that pops into my mind is that they might not want to assign the manpower to a somewhat niche functionality. The fact is that printing out all the maps to an adventure at the correct scale and in color is kind of pricey. Only players with a lot of money, or the ones who can sneak it through at their place of work, will be able to do it.

It seems to me that this is an EXCELLENT candidate for a D&D Insider "extra value feature".

Its a game play add-on which would require minimal work from Wizards of the Coast (Or someone from the forums with the skills) to make available and it ties in with their product lines, rules and miniatures.

1) Each Map would need to be rescaled to 1 Square = 1" Print format (usually over multiple A4 pages due to the size of the maps), which can be very quick and easy with the right software

2) Each Map would need to be edited to remove Monsters, Secret Doors, Traps etc (this may be quick and easy if these features are layered on or added to the map image last, or more difficult if all these features are marked onto the map, although once again with the right software this would be fairly easy too.

If this is something you would like to see, please add your voice in this thread.

Cheers
