Out of the Abyss looks really cool.  Im sure I will buy it day one and read it cover to cover just as quick as Im able.  Like the prior releases im quite excited about this book, however I am concerned about one detail.  The description states that the PC's will fight along side Drizzt.......If handled poorly (Which I don't expect WotC to do) the PC's would be horirbly over shadowed.   What are your thoughts on this?   Do you think that Drizzt will really be part of the PC party or more as an advisor?  Do you think that WotC will really make this amature mistake of having the PC's overshadowed by a super powerfull NPC who "allows" them to tag along for the adventure?

my take is kind of like Gandalf in the Hobbit novel, pops into play to share info or provide some clue or guidance, not so much combat help.

I hope so.  Shortly after I posted this, I found a quote from Chris Perkins stating that the PC's would be the stars of the Adventure.  That was encouraging.  Looks like I jumped the gun on this, or just misinterpreted the anouncment.  I am looking forward to it as well.

Yeah, I am sure he will be much more prominent in the Neverwinter MMO than in this book.  My guess would be you meet him as an NPC, perhaps a patron for a mission or two, while your characters are lower level, then when the characters reach level 10+ he may show up again as a more direct presence, where you briefly fight at his side or something. But I feel that anything more than that would ruin the feel of the adventure.

I was under the impression that there are a bunch of demon lords running loose, and I can't see them hanging around together.  I suspect that when the party reaches a certain level they will be 'assigned" (actually choose based on what maggufins they have accumulated) a demon lord to deal with, while Drizzt will be "assigned" a different one (I don't think Lolth was mentioned as one of the demon lords on the loose, possibly to she could be reserved for Drizzt).

I too would be bummed to have to stand in Drizzt's shadow.

But I wouldn't mind a plot device to the tune of "When you gat back to the inn for the night, the bartender hands you a letter.  Your adventuring group has been asked - by name - to help with a certain problem that requires special talents and qualifications.  It is signed by some guy named Drizzt.  Interested?"

My doubt is, will it have new class specializations, or just an adventure guide?

There is an appendix A again in the new book, per the latest AL Player's Guide, so there will be something in the book for player options. But the new Guide does not include anything else connected to Out of the Abyss, so I doubt there will be a new player pdf that includes anything not in appendix A. So we may see a free player pdf of whatever is in appendix A, or we may not, depending on how much material is in it.

Lolth isn't a demon. But I have no doubt that she will play some role.

Yeah it could get frustrating I agree. Especially with entity's like Orcus. How do you classify the undead demon minions are they undead or demons. In the tiamat instance I would have to side with the GM there, although she is listed as a fiend in RoT. I'm of the belief that deities are outside of the conventional classifications and rules that apply to mortals. What do you think?
