Are we going to see the return of the Paladin Mount? How would such a mechanic operate? I'm sorry if this has been mentioned before, but I haven't heard talk. Discuss! |
| #2stormonuMay 07, 2009 0:12:10 | The various mounts in the MM already have rules/benefit for their use, I don't think its likely we'll see the return of the likes of the mount in complete Divine. Though I wouldn't rule out some feats or perhaps a paragon path that lets a mounted paladin get some special bang out of existing mounts. Mounts aren't quite as versatile as familiars or most pets. They have to be big enough to ride, and that usually means their worthless in the heavily recommended dungeon adventures of 4E. I'd actually much rather see the paladin and the like being able to call on Angelic defenders and the like than see the return of the paladin's mount. I mean, what mount can compare to calling down the Angel of Death to wipe away your enemies? Maybe a dragon - but is he going to fit into the area you're going to be facing the bad guy? |

I think we might see something for it in the form of feats, but probably not a whole new build focusing on it. -- Thanks and always good gaming, ~Matt Butler Champions of the Realms Event Organizer Champions of the Realms Yahoo Group- Indianapolis, IN http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/championsoftherealms/ Champions of the Realms Warhorn Site http://www.warhorn.org/ChampionsOfTheRealms/ |

I'd rather see new marking mechanics that don't suck like Divine Challenge (which could stand some errata as well). Handling it a la familiars in Arcane Power is definitely the way to go. That way it's optional, and it's there if the campaign is suited for it. |
| #6mnm_toadMay 08, 2009 3:54:25 | I still remember my Halfling Paladin with a Riding Dog mount... Dungeons never bothered him or his mount. Maybe you big people need to downsize! :P On a more serious note, I think it would be interesting if a Paladin had the ability to call down a ghost-like horse that allowed him to move great distances for charging but then disappear after the attack. Of course the familiar system would be good as well. |
| #7sfdragonMay 08, 2009 4:09:32 | I'd rather summon Celestial creatures and or angels instead of mounts. besides, Give me an animated armored wagon with crossbow slits, a balista turret on top and room for 8 inside. and enchant the inside with mordenkainen's magnificent mansion and have room for an army... or merchant supplies. no more mounts |

| #9KalnaurMay 08, 2009 4:37:37 | I'd like to see a Paladin build in Divine Power related to the old Cavalier class. Perhaps something similar yet different from the Shaman Spirit Companion. |
| #10sfdragonMay 08, 2009 4:40:37 | Isn't that what Wizards are for... yes, yes they are, they are needed for the rituals to make animated war wagon..... but if no wizard is available for any war campaign..... this works just as good. |
| #11jacksmithivMay 08, 2009 8:30:47 | I'd rather summon Celestial creatures and or angels instead of mounts. I think this would be moving in too much of a controller-like direction. Summoned creatures need your actions, and the defender can't afford to give them to summoned angels. Handling it a la familiars in Arcane Power is definitely the way to go. That way it's optional, and it's there if the campaign is suited for it. Absolutely I agree. |
