If you search around on the forum, someone did post a rumour that WotC will be doing some non random pre-painted miniatures sets. Mainly for pc's, and common monsters. I would expect that if you want to find that beholder, or other solo/elite monsters you'll still have to buy the random packs, but a box of orcs or skeletons may be on the way.

Note that in the thread this is not a definite thing, something they are considering, so don't get too excited.

I wonder how we can encourage WotC to produce PC mini's?

I wonder how efficient it would be to do so? I'd love to see some nonrandom PC-style minis, but how would they be sold? There are 8 player races and 8 classes in the PHB - that's 64 combinations - 128 if they do a male and a female mini for each combination. You could do it by power source - because a warlord probably wouldn't look all that different from a fighter - but that's still 64 possible minis. And most people are likely only to want a few of them. So it seems that WotC shouldn't make every possible mini (and I know that that's not what people are asking - I'm not trying to make a straw man) so how do they decide which minis to make? And how do they sell them? Individual minis? Packets of minis by race? By party composition?

I'm not trying to be a wet blanket - I'd love to get some PC-worthy minis, and I know my group would love them as well. The best way to convince WotC to produce them is to demonstrate that there will be buyers, and I'm going to stop rambling now.

I would think the easiest way, or at least how I would do it. Is do male and female of each race, wearing Some sort of Light armour, Heavy Armour, and Cloth Armour. Will they match up to every character? No, but they don't have to be an exact match, but as close as possible. So, basically, you could buy a pack of dragonborn Player characters which has 6 miniatures. The same for dwarves, elves, humans etc.

However, that being said, I do believe the miniature sets will be nothing more than repaints of existing miniatures.

I would love to see this. I collect mini's on the side for the PnP campaigns i'm in. They tend to be for the DM's to use and also for the Players.

Right now we are in our first 4e Campaign and have been loving it. We just started really and it's our biggest group yet. We have 8 PC's and the DM which makes 9 of us. And the best part is that each of us Players picked a different class so we have one of each class. The diversity has allowed us to own things thrown at us even when they have been bumped up by our DM. Currently i'm the Wizard and i am going Staff and Leather Armor for the defense increases and such and will go BM. I have one out of like 200 minis that fits my chars a tiny bit. :P I have more wizards and such then that, but only 2 holding a staff and both have cloth on, but one has a thick robe which i picture as leather. So it works out for me. And as for the rest, so far only the Warlock does't have a good fitting one. But all the tanks have good ones for them and my Brother who is a Dragonborn Paladin is using my nice rare Dragonborn Fighter mini which fit almost perfectly except scale color.

That said...i would like them to release sets of races in different armor that are unpainted so i may paint them the colors i would like or other player would like to see.

I usually can find a good miniature by repear for a PC. They also have a nice Figure Finder feature. If you put in "fighter sword axe" you will get miniatures with an axe and sword in the hands. Plus once you search you can easily write down the number's the the miniatures you like and then go to your local hobby shop with this list in hand and search there stock for this number. Much easier than trying to look at every miniature on the rack if you have a number your looking for.
I do it all the time. Get my list ahead of time with multiple numbers for a give PC. Then I search for these numbers. Once I find one I move to the next figure.

For me, finding a miniature can be fairly easy, but I do like having them have some colour to them. The problem with most of the reaper minis is that you have to paint them yourself - some don't have the time or skill to do that. That is why we like the pre-painted ones that WotC have been doing, though we don't like the random element, and the new plastic line by reaper.

if there were a box of 6 dragonborn half male, half female with one representation in cloth, leather/hide and platemail/chain/scale I'd buy those in a second. $9.99 for that? Give me a hell ya! I'd be all over that like a corpulent adolescent on a light fluffy desert. I'm not going to hold my breath though. Maybe reaper can see this post (or I could send a e-mail) and they could do such a thing. That would be Legen- and I hope you're not lactose intolerant -dary

Yeah this seems good, I have no motivation to buy a box of minis that I may not be able to use at all, but picking and choosing to complete our party would be great.

Yep PC minis in non-random visible packs, 3 for 10.99
Monsters will be semi-random. Pack of 5 with 1 visible, 1 rare, 1 uncommon, 2 commons for 14.99.

First monster set is 40 pieces.
First PC set is 2 martial (6 martial pcs), 2 arcane (6 arcane pcs), 1 divine (3 divine pcs), and 1 primal (3 primal pcs). Each pack is supposed to have 2 male and 1 female PC each with a special power card that isn't in the books (but will be on the compendium).

Skirmish rules are being dropped as of these sets with the Feywild set being canned. Demonweb (out in a bit over a week) will be the last skirmish set released.
