| #1ZehnWatersAug 23, 2011 22:53:02 | Are we gonna get more Player's Handbooks? Also, I know we just got Neverwinter, but are we gonna get more 'real' campaign settings (Neverwinter technically being in Forgotten Realms). |
| #2ZehnWatersAug 23, 2011 23:49:28 | Hm. Hopefully it won't inexplicably go out of print like Dark Sun. |
| #3robertread3Aug 24, 2011 9:06:44 | they said no new classes for the forseeable future probably just subclasses so PHB4 is probably not happening, at least not for a while. new campagin settings are coming though. |
| #4ZehnWatersAug 24, 2011 12:47:24 | So whatever happened to the other power sources? Wasn't there supposed to, like, be Ki and stuff? Or is it just Arcane, Shadow, Primal, Martial, Psionic and Divine? |
| #5MalakLightfootAug 24, 2011 13:33:58 | So whatever happened to the other power sources? Wasn't there supposed to, like, be Ki and stuff? Or is it just Arcane, Shadow, Primal, Martial, Psionic and Divine? As they were designing Ki classes, they discovered that it had become the "Asian Power Source." With the "Asian" part being the only thing that linked the classes. They felt it would be better to fold those classes and builds into the appropriate powers sources, and make builds (or, now, themes) that carried the asian flavor. Monk being the only class totally dependant on internal power (and the only "Asian" class with a totally unique D&D identity), they folded into Psionic. The O-Assassin and Executioner are perfect candidates for Ninja, Bushi are very much PHB1 Fighters, and Samurai translate very well into either Fighter or Cavalier. There will be a "Kanji" build for the Runepriest in October. The Elemental Power source is being touched on early next year. With the loss of Ki, Elemental is the last power source from the original design phase of 4E to still see the light of day. The eight power sources as defined in the D&D 4E: Classes and Races teaser were: Martial, Arcane, Divine, Primal, Shadow, Ki, Psionic and Elemental. |
| #6nthdegree256Aug 24, 2011 13:47:35 | That said, it sounds like the Elemental book won't introduce any new classes - it mostly consists of new builds and powers for existing classes. |
| #7ChimpadinAug 24, 2011 13:57:24 | I think it's unlikely we'll see any new campaign settings for a while, but I think we will see more boxed sets focusing on given locations or planes, or on a theme. I think the Shadowfell set and the Threats to Nentir Vale book have been 2 of the best products for a long time and I'd like to see more like that. Each has given loads of ideas as a DM. |
| #8hattaSep 03, 2011 22:29:09 | WotC did allude to there being a campaign guide coming out next year. They didn't give any details other than it would have a "different" way to play, whatever that may be. |
| #9Macrocosm156Sep 04, 2011 2:15:11 | The new campaign is going to be e-book only. The "different way to play" means that you have to bring a kindle to game night. |
| #10hattaSep 04, 2011 3:10:27 | The new campaign is going to be e-book only. I'm highly skeptical of this. Unless you have proof, of course. |
| #11ChimpadinSep 04, 2011 3:19:50 | The new campaign is going to be e-book only. I'm pretty sure he was joking |
| #12hattaSep 04, 2011 3:56:05 | I'm sure he was, but yet again sarcasm doesn't take well to the written word. There definitely needs to be a snark mark. |
| #13ranadielSep 04, 2011 5:06:54 | I'm sure he was, but yet again sarcasm doesn't take well to the written word. There definitely needs to be a snark mark. I thought the snark mark was :P. |
| #14mrpopstarSep 04, 2011 23:40:22 | There was off-hand, non-committal mention of Icewind Dale as a setting on Twitter. ![]() |
| #15ranadielSep 05, 2011 5:40:50 | There was off-hand, non-committal mention of Icewind Dale as a setting on Twitter. So we are back to continually printing FR books then? Yay? >.> |
| #16Darkwolf_BloodsbaneSep 05, 2011 9:43:55 | There was off-hand, non-committal mention of Icewind Dale as a setting on Twitter. You know, for a setting called "Forgotten Realms," there sure seem to be a whole mess of people in charge who dont' want to let the name become accurate. I really hope we get a NEW 4E CREATED setting, instead of something old rehashed yet again. And I hope to never see another FR campaign book ever announced, so long as 4e may live. |
| #17mrpopstarSep 05, 2011 12:11:56 | I'm an FR fan, so anything in support of the setting is fine by me. However, from a brand perspective, the Forgotten Realms are recognizable, customizable, continually supported by novel authors, has related video games, etc. It makes sense for Hasbro to invest. If you want to see other settings get support, be sure to download the related DDI articles (there is a measure of such activity, evidenced as the reason for change from compiled issues to single article collection), purchase novels that explore your favored setting (FR novels are NYTimes best-sellers), submit articles to Dungeon and Dragon that support/explore the setting, make formal (written) requests to WotC, etc. -- It really is in our hands. ![]() |
| #18mrpopstarSep 05, 2011 13:53:46 | I have no interest in the Forget me realms. Never have. Yes, but your lack of interest is not indicative of the player community at large. Author support, you mean that one dude who hasn't had a new idea sense 2nd ed yet still puts out a new Ditz book or Elmunchkin book every six months? LOL Disregarding your opinion of his work, his books sell. -- Far outsell books that focus on other settings that WotC owns. Many of his works have also been translated to different mediums; such as graphic novels, comic books and the like, which appeals to broader audiences and makes the setting even more recognizable to newcomers. Furthermore, there's a very large supportive cast of writers that contribute to novels, short stories, etc., detailing the setting: Bruce R. Cordell, Troy Denning, David Cook, Elaine Cunningham, Ed Greenwood, Douglas Niles, Brian Thomsen, Mark Anthony, Roger E. Moore, J. Robert King, Jeff Grubb, Monte Cook, Richard Lee Byers, Scott Ciencin, Richard Baker, Thomas M. Reid, Paul S. Kemp, Jess Lebow, Erik Scott de Bie, Keith Francis Strohm, and more, and on, etc... DDi? Don't make me laugh. How about some real support for something "new?" I want to see the design team do something that hasn't been done before. Impress me as quite frankly this last year has been one failure after another. To be impressed is difficult if one maintains the position of not being so. I don't intend to champion FR as the end all, be all of campaign settings. -- I don't read the novels, collect related merchandise, or otherwise support the material outside of enjoying the setting for my D&D needs. -- I'm merely supporting WotC's focusing on the Realms in the interest of brand recognition as something that makes sense. ![]() |
| #19mrpopstarSep 05, 2011 14:23:32 | So does toilet paper. And that's much the same quality of product as well. It's a fair analogy considering my toilet paper is a fluffy, quilted triple-ply. Perhaps if you splurged a little bit on toilet paper you'd be in lighter spirits. ![]() |

| #21IlexGarodanSep 05, 2011 18:55:47 | Rest In Peace Player's Handbook 4. Um.. Begging your pardon, but AFAIK, a PHB4 was never announced. How can you mourn for something that was never born to begin with? |
| #22hunterian7Sep 05, 2011 19:53:01 | Rest In Peace Player's Handbook 4. I thought this went without saying but wow... We had a PHB, PHB2 and a PHB3. 4th edition was originally going to release a numbered PHB each year. And, what do you know, we got a numbered PHB each year. They opted to do away with the numbered PHBs in 2011, therefore, instead of a PHB4, we got the Heroes' Options books. Thus, rest in peace PHB4. It's magic, isn't it? Deductive reasoning. |
| #23mrpopstarSep 05, 2011 20:44:17 | Play nice, guys. ![]() Rest In Peace Player's Handbook 4. Yes, we never knew you; though you will be missed. ![]() |
| #24mvincentSep 06, 2011 15:36:30 | are we gonna get more 'real' campaign settings (Neverwinter technically being in Forgotten Realms). Although I can understand your point of view, I would've been pretty darn disheartened if WotC had created Yet Another Campaign World to introduce a new city of intrigue. I hate supplements like that... we already have plenty of 'worlds'. I would've preferred one of the planes being detailed instead (Feywild, Astral Spelljammers, Azzagrat, Arvandor, etc.), but if it had to be prime material, this was probably best for me... i.e. at least it had some relation to my LFR campaigns. I wouldn't have purchased it had this not been the case. Plus, I believe players actually prefer settings that they can claim some familiarity with. |

What related DDI articles? I'm looking for something that by Definition, doesn't currently exist. |

Both of which are currently contributing to my drool collection... ok maybe not the bard (cant imagine too much of a cool enhancement for that class) ... but the Witch and Pixie.... yah those. |
