PHB2 classes too tricky for newbies?

Hi,

I've never DMed before, and none of my players have ever played an RPG before. However, we'd like to start. The main thing I'm wondering is: while the Bard, Sorceror, etc. look very cool, they look like they might put more of a rules burden on us, with more to keep track of: Sorceror with the even/odd thing, Druid with the shapechanging, etc. Based on the previews so far, do you think that the PHB2 classes will be good for total newbies, or should we stick to PHB1 classes for our first campaign?

Now that you say, it really seems that the new classes are a little more complex than previous ones. I mean, the Shaman's Spirit, the Wild Sorcerer's roll tracking and the Druid's Shapeshifting, all of that need some experience to run smoothly.

So, i really advise you to go for PHBI. The old classes are about as classic (no pun intended) as you can get. No reason you can't roleplay a Druid using a well-built Wizard, or a bard with Warlord mechanics.

Since the ground rules are in PHBI, it's not like you can got without it anyway.

Some of the PHBII classes are a little mechanically complex. But if you start at level 1 and level up at the normal rate, you should be fine.

Be sure to write out your powers on a sheet of paper, or print out power cards from the character builder, or something along those lines.

The sharper players should be plenty fine using classes from any source book in my opinion. However, you might just want to stick to pregenerated characters for the players that have a tendency of drooling all over your dice.
