| #1siddiusNov 09, 2009 13:38:47 | Yes I'm begging, on my knees, asking, pleading, crying even... I would like minature packs that co-inside (sic) with the released adventures. For example I would like a box of twelve kobolds for the big fight in the first e4 heroic adventure you released... Any hope of this ever happening? |
| #2thescalesoffateNov 09, 2009 14:47:33 | Your wish has come true! The first set "Twelve Kobolds!" is coming out tomorrow! |
| #3DragoncatNov 09, 2009 15:42:41 | Your wish has come true! The first set "Twelve Kobolds!" is coming out tomorrow! Soon to be followed by Eleven Halfings Piping and Ten Elves-a-leaping. I wish they would hurry up, I'm only interested in the Three Mage Robes, Two Io Halves and an Archdruid in a World Tree. |
| #4WebsterNov 09, 2009 15:44:17 | It was tried once, and I don't think they sold very well.
|
| #5lizardmageNov 09, 2009 17:54:45 | With a larger push it seems towards making these premade adventures, I am honestly surprised that they have not made a box set that includes the requisite minis. I know that in some sets they will include minis that are related to i.e. Red Hand of Doom stuff. Though I do not use the premade adventures I am all for themed mini packs not the random ones. I can't count the number of times I've had to go to singles dealers for specific pieces that I use often. |
| #6aidan_blackthornNov 09, 2009 21:03:38 | I don't necessarily think that making packs based on their canned adventures is the way to go, but I'd like to see enemy packs, with the aforementioned 12 kobolds. Packs of common humanoid enemies with a good number of lower level soldier/skirmishers along with some higher level and leader types.

| #7LordofKhyberNov 10, 2009 11:17:32 | I'd offer some of my PC's as sacrifices to the WoTC marketing division if they did some of the stuff suggested in this topic!
(Well not really, I wouldn't want them to get heartburn.) |
| #8siddiusNov 21, 2009 9:05:56 | It seems to me if you are going to make a canned adventure and you are going to suggest in the rules that you play with figurines and mats, and the adventures come with mats, why not make sets that include half or all of the monsters in an adventure, I have a few hundred figures but not the ones for the canned adventures. (a couple) so I make do with dice and such, but I think it would make the adventures so much better if I had figures to represent all the villans... (and canned heroes). My group ordered their personal figures online, and spent a few pennies in the process, I've spent hundreds to get my hundreds of figurines. And now I'm upset and don't feel like playing, cause the use of dice (or figures that don't look like what they are fighting), detracts from my players overall atmosphere. Paying for adventure packs (or even bundling them) that might have one of the figures I need (I've never gotten two in one pack) makes me feel cheated and manipulated. It's like getting a land as the rare card in a booster pack of MTG, (yes I have!). So hear my plea WOTC, make adventure packs for your intrepid players that buy pre canned adventures, you might be suprised, maybe people will buy more of them if you support them a little better. |
| #9lizardmageNov 21, 2009 9:49:31 | After thinking about this for awhile, I feel the need to play devil's advocate here real quick. (Still want non-randomized minis set) We make a couple of suggestions here and there on what we want like the 12 Kobold pack, or something like Orc ravagers encounter set, but what is wizards to do past these type of encounters such as boss encounters or random encounter areas? Mayhaps the solution to this one, is simply taking a monster out of the MM, say Mindflayers, and making a set that encompasses the suggested encounters for them so: Psychic Squid Attack! Mindflayer Encounter Pack for lvl 14 and 18 Encounters includes: 2 Mindflayer Infiltrators 1 Mindflayer mastermind 1 drider fanglord 1 drow blademaster 2 drow warriors 3 grimlock followers 2 war trolls ----------------------------- so now you have a pack of 12 figures that hits that boss level encounter. This might actually have been a poor example as there are tons of drow minis, but getting Mindflayers has always been difficult. I'd say the same for the trolls and drider but since you can see those before you buy the pack....Anyway, that is just a thought on something that would be slightly more useful then "Here is a box of 12 random minis that may or may not help you". |
| #10siddiusNov 21, 2009 13:23:07 | If you go to Barnes & Noble and you buy the H1 adventure supplement (for new players), you will find that in this book there are a number of encounters. I want a Package of Miniatures, or even a few different packages, that has all the monsters to make the verious encounters in that adventure. I would also like miniature sets for all the subsequent adventures. If you wanted to make the ones for the monsters in the monster manual encounters that would be fine too, however, I feel that not making miniature packs for these adventures but providing miniature maps with the supplements is kind of a double standard. |
| #11lizardmageNov 21, 2009 18:04:48 | What it will boil down to is which is alittle more cost productive. It probably doesn't cost that much to package a double-sided map with an adventure that does not sell well then make the adventure, map, and minis package that doesn't sell well. Though, this could still be preferable as the current example of 12 kobolds could be in that adventure causing it to sell...even if the adventure is not desired. |
| #12defcon_1Nov 23, 2009 10:24:31 | When Keep on the Shadowfell was first released, I saw a thread or two that detailed a list of the D&D miniatures that you could use to represent all the encounters in the module. That list was over 100 figurines large. Because we're talking kobolds, goblins, rats, kruthiks, hobgoblins, vampire spawn, skeletons, ghouls, etc. etc., many of them requiring a half-dozen or more in number. The simple fact of the matter is... WotC is deferring the miniature singles market to game shops and Ebay stores. They want nothing to do with it. It's too much of a hassle for too little a reward. After all... all these online stores still have to buy WotC's miniature boxes thmselves in order to crack them all open so they can sell the figures individually... so what does WotC gain by also doing it? Whatever higher price on the margin they might get selling direct to customers for the singles is probably lost in the additional staffing, shipping, and organization needed to do it. If you really want to buy a group of 12 kobolds... just go to Auggies, or Miniatures Market or any of the other online singles stores and buy them there. No muss, no fuss, and you can get much of what you need, oftentimes for less than a dollar a fig. |

| #14undraveNov 23, 2009 18:00:54 | What WOULD be nice though is to have the BBEG of a certain adventure packaged with the adventure (in a blinded package so PCs checking out the Adventure can't tell what is the last boss). I think it would have been neat if Keep on the Shadowfell had came with a Kalarel mini for that last dramatic encounter don't you think? A mini for the most important enemy of the whole story. Another possibility would be cardboard counters for monsters. Basically instead of buying a pack of Dungeon tiles you get a pack of Kobold counters, or Orc counters or Goblinoid Counter etc. The counters wouldn't have a specific name (though they would have numbers to make it easy to differentiate and a 'bloodied' side) so they can be reuse for whatever creature looks similar. |

This is something that could be feasible and cool. |
| #16joydyheeNov 23, 2009 21:03:38 | I don't think they'd do it for the fact that they want to sell the minis. Irontooth was in Legendary Evils, Skalmad was in Dangerous Delves, and there was a dead ringer for Kalarel (Deathpriest of Orcus) in Against the Giants. I am pretty confident that WotC is doing this to try and sell more minis, especially when they blew away the minis game and started encouraging them solely for RPing. |
| #17undraveNov 24, 2009 1:33:45 | They could always just use a repaint for BBEG minis. they also need to pull a 'Build-a-figure' like Marvel Legends and other acton figure series and let us build our own Orcus by collecting body parts XD |
| #18thescalesoffateNov 24, 2009 1:50:48 | They could always just use a repaint for BBEG minis. lawl |
| #19siddiusNov 27, 2009 9:46:35 | So a hundred minis, 10 ten packs at 19.99 I'm in, so are a lot of others. I have to buy the mini's anyway, rather than searching a hundred online stores/ebay sites. I can go to WOTC and buy them online, I'm in. A collection of packs for a collection of encounters, I've spent a few hundred dollars getting the few that I have, that aren't in packs. Some of them would be a dollar each, but some of them would be more (like seven dollars each), espically if they are from older packs. I wouldn't mind a bunch of stupid disks that did the same thing if they came in the adventures or even in seperate packs, it wouldn't be nearly as cool, but it would be cheaper for everyone involved. |
| #20The_JesterNov 27, 2009 14:05:37 | There are many sites and eBay stores that specialize in single minis. It wouldn't be that hard for WotC to begin a singles store of their own, selling re-painted old out-of-print minis. With the new PHB Heroes line we know they're not above repainting old molds, this is just an evolution. |
| #21Alter_BoyNov 27, 2009 18:28:13 |
If on-line stores were smart, they would be doing this. Sort through their piles of plastic goblins, figure out how many sets of minis they could sell with each adventure, and use it to sell off loads of minis. What kind of shoddy capitalist system are we running, anyways? |
| #22lizardmageNov 27, 2009 19:11:35 | Paizo did try this, but when they did it only harbringer had been released so their "packs" really weren't that great. I'd imagine as I haven't seen them in a long time that it left a bad taste in their mouth. Now, though......with so many sets out, I think it would be a great time to try again. |

Also, for those that have extrememly large (Huge and larger) final bosses, maybe packaging them as Cardbord cutouts with a plastic base? Otherwise I see these packs getting oversized and expensive. |

While I understand that concern there, I'm inclined to disagree, at least with the cutouts. There is nothing quite like the DM placing down this massive creature that you know you have to fight, and its going to be hell. The cutouts wouldn't give the same feel. |
| #25Darkwolf_BloodsbaneDec 01, 2009 13:51:10 | What WOULD be nice though is to have the BBEG of a certain adventure packaged with the adventure (in a blinded package so PCs checking out the Adventure can't tell what is the last boss). I think it would have been neat if Keep on the Shadowfell had came with a Kalarel mini for that last dramatic encounter don't you think? A mini for the most important enemy of the whole story. I dunno. I, the player, know what (say) Orcus looks like. If I saw a cutout of Orcus on the playing field, I'd still be $$$$$ing myself. The problem is that the larget the Mini, the more expensive to paint. It might not be economically feasible to do this with the larger sized characters. |
| #26siddiusDec 04, 2009 15:59:37 | Again, the cost is fairly irrelivant, if you are selling the miniatures on a package basis in the first place, all I'm asking for is a non random package, so I can tell what I'm getting, so that when I buy it I can say, "Oh I have six of these so six more is just what I need!" Give me something here WOTC, please? |
| #27howlofmemoriesDec 07, 2009 23:20:38 | Themed Miniature Packs are definitely something I'd like to see. As much fun as the random surprises you get from the normal mini packs are, sometimes it would be nice just to have the minis needed. |
| #28thescalesoffateDec 09, 2009 4:10:10 | Again, the cost is fairly irrelivant Um, no, it's completely relevant. It's probably the sole reason why they don't do as you suggest. |
| #29siddiusDec 10, 2009 12:39:42 | The cost isn't going to be very relevant in the sense that the people who buy the minitures now (and pay the prices they are paying for them already), are still going to buy these packages. |
