They have: Half-Orc Resilience When first bloodied, the half-orc gains 5 temporary hit points. and (more importantly) Furious Assault (free; encounter) When the half-orc hits an enemy, it can deal +1[W] damage with a weapon attack or +1d8 damage with a nonweapon attack. All 3 of the non-minion Harrowfolk are trained in Endurance, Nature and Intimidate. I'm thinking some combination of those skills (or all 3) gain a +2 bonus. All of the Harrowfolk have high Str scores. They also have High Dex and High Con scores. I'm thinking they might be a Str/Dex race. The other thing I noticed, which may not mean much, is the way they are described. The leader is described as a "massive man" with "broad features" and "gray cast" skin. They have dark, braided hair and dark eyes. They have totems and feathers decorating their hair and armor. At no point are they described as "orc-like" or "brutish". I see no mention of tusks, etc. This may just be the way the author chose to describe them, or the Half-orc looks a little more human in this edition. |
| #4thecasualoblivionDec 18, 2008 8:50:00 | None of the Harrowfolk have a Wisdom of less than 12, and the Barbarian playtest stated that Half-Orcs would be +2 Str, +2 Wis. If you look at the math on the skills, its fairly obvious that the Half Orc has +2 Endurance, +2 Intimidate. Also, one of the Harrowfolk is Paragon level. That one gains 10 temporary HP when first bloodied. All of them also have +2 speed while charging like regular Orcs. To sum up: +2Str/+2Wis +2Endurance/+2Intimidate +2 Speed While Charging 5 Temporary HP when first bloodied(10 at Paragon) +1[W] or +1d8 damage when you hit(1/ encounter) assumed--Half blooded makes them able to take Human feats like the Half-Elf. Who wants to play a Half-Orc right now? Are you as a DM to allow Half-Orcs based on the above stats? |
| #5terradriusDec 18, 2008 9:49:52 | +2 Speed While Charging Geez, another "charging is cool" race? Dragon is beginning to annoy me, if none of the races they put there have a unique schtick. Minotaurs, Gnolls, even Warforged Juggernauts - blah. |
| #6kave99Dec 18, 2008 18:50:45 | None of the Harrowfolk have a Wisdom of less than 12, that is a pore indicator as to which stats get a bonus, I ran the levels and roles threw the monster builder and that didn't show any discrepancy's to support the theory that Wis is the second stat. the 9th level artillery was spot on and the other two non minion are low. After looking at the stats of the Harrowfolk in relation to the monsters of same type and level I can't say for sure that they get +2 to STR. and the Barbarian Playtest stated that Half-Orcs would be +2 STR, +2 Wis. I don't see that, what I see is that they don't get a +2 in con or cha as these are the stats that are seconder for each of the two barbarian builds. Half-orcs are often barbarians but don’t favor either |
