I just had this neat idea for a Psionic Defenders Mark.

"One per Round, when an Enemy attacks an Ally who is 5 or less squares away from you, you an mark that enemy as a free action. You mark him before he rolls his attack"

The wording is quite bad i think but you get the Idea. Let him mark enemys as a Reaction to the attack, not as Action before the attack.

Suggestions ?

I think that marking as an interrupt kind of defeats the purpose. The purpose of marking is to discourage enemies from attacking your allies in the first place. The actual -2 penalty won't matter but 10% of the time.

Then i don't know. A bit of damage + pull 1 + marked ?

I thought a psionic mark that might be neat would be to make all your allies (but not yourself) invisible to the target for 1 round after marking the target. Then I realized it could be used offensively, and thus was not a good idea. :-p

Perhaps there will be a telepathic marking ability and a telekinetic marking ability. The telepathic marking ability will make the marked creature attack someone else. The telekinetic marking ability reduces damage.

Going the mental-domination route, it might be something like "the target is marked and must attack you on its turn, if able (save ends)". That might be too good though.

It is too powerful, but That's not a bad idea.

Something like:
Forced Mind
minor, at-will, Close burst 1, one enemy in burst not marked by you.
Target is marked by you and must include you in any attacks it makes on its next turn. If you mark another creature with Forced Mind later it supersedes this mark. You may only use this power once per turn.

This only forces the enemy to attack you on its next turn, and marks it, without forcing it to attack you indefinitely. You have to switch to another target (superseding the mark) to get the forced attacks back.

The move to a penalty instead of "must attack" was to avoid a note for every possibility. What if they can't get to you, what if you teleport across a chasm, etc.

Marking is played out. I'd prefer selecting an ally and giving all enemies -2 to hit it, with an extra effect such as small psychic damage before the attack, medium pshycic damage after the attack, or a chance at redirecting the target once per turn or some other type of deception effect.

I'd love to see the psionic defenders mark daze an enemy for attacking anyone but the defender. As in a immediate interrupt attack vs. will to daze until the end of the targets next turn. That is a mark worth not ignoring.

I'm hoping for ore hypnosis-dominate-mindtrick route.
Marked targets have to mentally struggle with you to attack.

the target is marked and whenever the target makes an attack that doesn't inlude you, make a Secondary Ability Nod vs Will attack. Hit: the attack misses. The target of the attack is dealt no damge from the missed attack.

This only forces the enemy to attack you on its next turn, and marks it, without forcing it to attack you indefinitely. You have to switch to another target (superseding the mark) to get the forced attacks back.

I like this, so I'll format it slightly better for you:

Forced Mind - [Psionic Defender Class] Feature
At-Will - Psionic
Minor Action - Close Burst 1
Target: One creature in burst not marked by you
Effect: The target is marked by you and must include you in any attacks it makes on its next turn. Marking another creature with this power removes all marks made by this power from other creatures.
Special: You may only use this power once per round.

Not too sure about the mark superseding sentence, but the rest should be fairly well spot on.

What I'd like to see is some ability that makes the marked target attack the psionic defender (if possible).

I don't like "Must Attack" abilities, as it takes control away from the DM. The DM should pay a solid price for ignoring a mark...but a flat out "Nyah Nyah, you MUST attack ME!" is just full of lame-sauce.

One thing that would be kind of fun is a "Chaos Mark", similar to the Far Realms Creatures.

i.e. Psychic Warrior marks Orc. If Orc attacks Psychic Warrior, no penalties apply. If Orc attacks someone else, then Orc has a X chance to have their attack redirected towards their nearest ally REGARDLESS of distance.

This is much more fun than "Direct Damage Penalty" marks like Divine Challenge or Combat Challenge, since it doesn't penalize the mark violator...

...but punishes the mark violator's allies! That's just full of win.

Just imagine the Big Brute swings his encounter at a non-marked squishy, and crits! He rolls his X percentage, and ends up shifting that attack to his nearest ally...which happens to be a squisher Artillery.

Woot!

Satori, that wouldn't work well for solo monsters (great for minions, though.)

I would like to see defender "marks" that don't mark. Marking is helpful, but not necessary.

Here are some ideas, mark or no mark:
- Whenever the enemy attacks an ally, the [Defender] chooses the next [ability score modifier] squares the enemy moves to if it uses a mode of movement other then teleportation.
- Whenever the enemy attacks an ally, the [Defender] can redirect the attack to any other ally as an immediate interrupt.
- The enemy regains [some number] hit points or gains [some number] THP if it does not attack one of the [Defender]'s allies on its turn.
- Whenever the enemy attacks an ally, the enemy gains vulnerable [some number] to all damage until [duration].
