This is an adventure that will be released in Feb. 2010. Can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/Reavers-Harkenwold-Adventure-HS1-4th/dp/0786953888/

Unless they are restarting the H-P-E series of modules, this would be attached to a campaign world.

I am not familiar with Harkenwold though the name vaguely rings a bell. Does anyone know what setting it could be in?

So this would mean some kind of restart to H-P-E modules. I was hoping to see some kind of sneak peek into the next campaign world but then the release date is all wrong for that.

Has anyone been keeping track of the locations of these modules to see if they map out a coherent region of the PoL world? I'm really bad at maps, I usually steal them for my games, unless it's for a building.

Sigh. Points of light is a great concept, but yeah... if you have to ask this question then you missed the point. Really the problem is that the human desire to categorize, map, and quantify everything inevitably means that PoL was really kind of dead on arrival anyhow. I always thought that it was a mistake for Wizards to keep on putting out these regional maps for areas while trying to stick to the points of light mentality. Why not let the campaign decided how much or little they want their region to be strictly defined?

It takes a DM with a lot of cajones to stick to a sense of mystifying uncertainty about the world when every one of his players needs to have/make a map for everything.

They do. The Nentir Vale is mapped, and small areas that are noted to be either north, south, east, west or any number of combinations of the four directions from the Nentir Vale have been noted in the earlier modules. Once you get to modules in mid to late Paragon Tier, though, it's a more worldly and planar journey - P2 takes you into the Underdark, P3 to the Shadowfell. But H1 and H2 are on the original map, and H3 and P1 are mentioned in their location relative to the Nentir Vale IF YOU SO CHOOSE TO USE THEM LIKE THIS.

Additional adventures set in the Nentir Vale or in the regions nearby that have appeared in Dungeon, as well as additional locations that have appeared in Dragon (and will shift over to appearing in Dungeon after the transition), have also mentioned their location relative to the Nentir. When they're planar though, they're part of the greater PoL setting, which is more well defined.

As for Arkhosia and Bael-Turath and the Twin-Moons, these fallen empires have appeared somewhat in the magazines as well, with locations from Bael-Turath especially being noted. Where they are in reference to the Nentir, however, is unknown; i.e., for the DM to decide, IF S/HE SO CHOOSES TO USE THEM LIKE THIS.

In any case, I'm excited. There were a lot of places in the Nentir that are just bustling for exploring and adventuring in, but since I either play a module or make my own world, but not combine them, I haven't really explored outside of what's been released.

Well the DMG has the map of the Nentir Vale. Harkenwold is mentionned as a small barony with famer town around it with a just ruler. The nearby Harken Forest has the Daggerburg Goblins roaming about, becoming more numberous recently and constantly at feud with a clan of Elves that lives in the woods.

Sounds like a fun level 1 adventure in the making!

It seems they are. (Although it's HS1) Which, by the way, the letters stand for (H)eroic, (P)aragon, and (E)pic. So I'm not sure what the S is (maybe HS1 is Heroic the Second 1?)

Although oddly enough, the Eberron adventure (Seekers of the ashen Crown) seems to have the designation H2 if you look at the upper left corner of the image on amazon or the Wizards site.

Maybe it's "Heroic/Special", looking to revive the feel of the old "S" series of modules.

Wouldn't S stand for "Super". Aka a Heroic Super Adventure?

Why would you think either of these things? Even with a 1 showing after the HS, why wouldn't the 1st thought be "Oh, good, another Heroic tier module..."?

Everything doesn't need to start over.
Nor does everything published have to tie together in any way/some grand plot. (could be that S = Stand Alone).

Back during BECMI/AD&D/AD&D2e numerous module lines were written prefaced with letters/#s. We had Bs, Xs, Cs, Ms & Is for the one system.
And for the AD&Ds we had all kinds of designations. Some had obvious title related designations (such as the giant series; G1-G3. Or the DL = Dragonlance). Some had notations of where they were written, like UK1 & 2, or RPGA. Someone mentioned the S (special) modules - never did know what made these "Special" - but it didn't matter.
And then we had Ls & Ns, Hs, & Is, Greyhawks & .....
All of these adventures detailed their own little bit of world - just whatever was needed to make them work.

The best thing about all of these different lines of modules was that most of them, even within a "line" had nothing to do with each other. And only a tiny # of them were actually tied firmly to a specific setting. You were encouraged to take them & adapt them as needed into whatever you were playing.....

So I'd love to see WoTC take a similar shotgun pattern aproach. Simplify the letter system down to H-P-E & #s, Campaign specific & letter/#, but just throw random unrelated adventures at us under each banner. Sure, some might be related. But that needn't be a requirement.

Could also mean "Series."

I thought HS meaned Heroic Standalone from the HS1 The Slaying Stone and HS2 Orcs of Stonefang Pass, but according to Fantasiapelit.com HS1 Reavers of Harkenwold is the first part of the three-part “Shadow over Nentir Vale” series of heroic-tier adventures.
