The WotC site just says March 2009.

So, when the release schedule says that a book comes out in, say, June, it will be on whatever day is the third Tuesday of June. (Sometimes, though, retailers ignore the release date and start selling the books as soon as they get them -- although WotC frowns on this, which is why it usually only happens with foreign retailers.)

Mar 06, 2009 17:52:48 Borders and Amazon have been known to ship the books early or stock them early. Also some LGS employees get them early if their distributor ships them early (due to shipping schedules) so we'll see them around at times. I know I've gotten a couple books from Borders up to a week early before while other times they don't get them in until a week later than the release date.

Also if you look at the editorial release calendar on the Wizards D&D site it shows not only when DDI content comes out but when the compendium/CB are updated as well as when the books come out.

Most likely, yes. In addition to what Grazel says, I also believe that it's because in foreign countries, WotC has a lot less control over the sales practices of retailers with regards to products. Domestically, they can contractually obligate distributors to restrict the terms of sales, although whether or not it could ever result in a lawsuit, I'm not sure; in most cases it would be a pretty small issue to sue over. (Contrast with, say, a chain who sold the last Harry Potter book early...)

International bulk shipping is, in general, not reliable enough to ensure a product arrives on a specific day, and attempting to do this would run the risk of them receiving products several days after the release date.

I'd say the reason for this is shipping. Since international shipping can be quite fast (if you're lucky) or take a long time, the products for, say, the european market, need to be shipped quite early to the retailers. So an American LGS which is selling it's stuff right after it arrives may be able to provide the bock one or two days early, an European LGS may be able to sell it a week early. However, mostly the opposite is the case: You need to wait several extra days in Europe ;).
