We know about Gamma World. What if WoTC decided to resurect another old TSR game. Which one would you like to see next?

-Gang Buster : 20's Chicago gangster wars
-Boot Hill : Wild, Wild West
-Top Secret : Spy stories during the cold war
-Star Frontiers : Old style SF with 8 legged octopus like aliens...

Gangbusters.

The best campaign I've ever ran was a d20 Modern/Past Mobsters game. We've only played 4 sessions in the past five years, but its always been a GREAT session every time. Seeing a game like that with 4th edition rules... that'd be the best.

Well, with Gamma World we've already got some Sci-Fi for now, and with a Dark Tower movie in the works, I'd say Boot Hill.  Gangbusters would be a pretty cool second.

Alternity. But only if they use the original system. Some changes would be ok, but keep it away from 4e.

So you want a reprint of a ten year old product?

Won't happen.  Any "new" genre settings they do will still be based on 4e.

Sadly you are right. But one can hope, right?

You can also hop on one hand while balancing a sealion with your feet and singing "Yankee Doodle Dandy", but it isn't going to help anything and people are probably going to give you strange looks.

I thought it was a seal, not a sealion. Shows how much I know about sea mammals.

I have played most of those games back in the day and I dont see any of them needing to be redone as most were really bad. Marvel's system would be hard to change into 4th edition type rules. Most of TSR's games were lets be honest very poor to down right bad and I could do without seeing them again in any form.

Gamma World is called a "D&D Genre Setting" rather than a Campaign Setting.

If they were to do similar games in this manner, I think they'd really shoot at other popular genres that don't have their niche filled by the four D&D Settings (PoL, FR, Eb, DS) or Gamma World.  I could see them calling d20 Modern as one of these, and do similar things with d20 Past and Future.  They might do a Horror one two, if they hold the licence to any of those.

Also… will Star Wars RPG suddenly get a new edition where it's called "D&D Star Wars Roleplaying Game: A D&D Genre Setting" ???

That would both be hilarious and disturbing.  I doubt it, but…

According to ENWorld WotC has chosen not to renew the Star Wars lisence, and the lisence expires in May. So it seems that won't be happening despite how hilariously funny it would be.

That's sad news for Star Wars fans.  Though I doubt they'd be happy if Star Wars was wrapped up into D&D.

I played a Top Secret campaign when it was released and found that myself and the other players enjoyed that.

I could see that being redone as a narrower focused 'D20 Modern'-ish style of rules.  It could have been run with the old D20 Modern rules, but I find by opening the ruleset up too much, it lost focus.

Tough choice. I have all 4. The most likely to be successful would be Star Frontiers

actually, Marvel Super Heroes would probably be the most likely to succeed

I am no fan of the 4e mechanic myself, but the one type of game it would best for, IMO, is a super hero game

Marvel gathers the most "votes" at this point. I'm not convinced WoTC would want to pay for the expensive licencing fees Marvel would ask for. Then again I could be wrong. This could be the very reason they didn't renew the Star Wars licence. With Marvel they could sell most of us, yet again, a monthly book over the course of two years. They cannot do this anymore with Star Wars. The franchise cash cow has been milked (for now). Time to switch to another cash cow...LOL

After having mulled it over, I'm willing to work on a new version of Boot Hill, based off of what I've read about Gamma World, only with a long term campaign where the characters change slowly over time.

I like the idea of an expandable 4e version of Boot Hill.

With J.J. Abrams trying to get Stephan King's Dark Tower books to the screen in one form or another, making a western themed game that's compatible with D&D wouldn't be a bad idea.

Alternity

Several campaign settings were published during the brief life of this game:

Star*Drive

Dark•Matter
__________

Amazing Engine
Campaign settings

Below you'll find summary information for the published worldbooks.

Bughunters
A near future worldbook where the players are clones forced to fight the aliens. Recycled for d20 Future.

For Faerie, Queen, and Country
Magical Victorian England with a twist. Magic and Faeries are real. Includes poster map.

The Galactos Barrier
Space opera ala Star Wars (except that instead of "The Force" it's called music).

Kromosome
Biopunk using both traditional cyberware and genetic materials from animals.

Magitech
D&D meets Earth. Fantasy mixed with the contemporary world. Basically, how the world would be different if magic were real and elves, dwarves, etc. were around.

Metamorphosis Alpha to Omega
Post-apocalyptic science fiction with high technology and mutants - based on Metamorphosis Alpha.Once and Future KingKing Arthur lives in 4485 AD. Space flight, combat armor.

Tabloid!
A spoof comedy world where you are reporters for a sensationalist newspaper like the ones referenced in the film 'Men In Black'. Also like the film, its all true. The Loch-ness monster is an alien, Elvis is alive and well etc.

Although these are not TSR games but rather old WotC games, I would like to see:

  Alternity: Star Drive
  Spelljammer/Planescape
  D20 past, modern and future

It is my hope they would all be 4e compatible and usable with each other.

Huh?

Alternity is a science fiction role-playing game (RPG) published by TSR in 1998. Following the acquisition of TSR by Wizards of the Coast, the game was discontinued in 2000 as part of a broader rationalisation of TSR's business holdings. Spelljammer is also TSR.

There is no point in having Alternity if you also publish a d20 Future generic game. Alternity could be a campaign setting though.

I apologize for my error.  I was not sure when WotC took over from TSR and which games where when, but these are some of the older games I would like to see updated to 4e.

I agree that d20 modern and future was a re-release of a lot of alternity material, but I preferred the in depth treatment of Stardrive in Alternity as a campaign setting and the rules material presented in 20 future.

Star Frontiers was the first RPG I ever played. Good Times....

I wouldn't mind seeing its return in an updated format. If a Living Campaign was somehow made from it, I'd have a real hard time choosing between it and LFR, because Sci-Fi has always been my first love.

I've actually played Boot Hill.  I found the combat system and character creation both far too random for my liking.

what I would be keen to see are revamps of old TSR board games - Dranonlance, Buck Rogers, Red Storm rising, and Hunt For red October.

Remember the preveiw for Gama world said it was the first in the line of alternate FANTASY settings so a new Boot hill would be the wild and cinematic western with rifle snipers shooting ticks of a steer's back and the quick draw artist shooting six men in under one second. Or the tracker following someone from New York to San Fransisco with out ever losing the trail.

I hope this will not disapoint anyone.

Honestly, if they're planning any more resurrections in the same vein as Gamma World, I'd just as soon they didn't bother.  Star Frontiers and Marvel Super Heroes both have pretty large presences on the web.  I'd really hate to see those web sites shut down to clear the way for yet another casino card game.

From what I hear, they've said in Dragon that Gamma World isn't going to be a CCG, and with their stance of "little to no support for campaign settings," there's just going to be one expansion with cards that are "random" in the same way Munchkin expansions are "random" (you don't know what they are until you buy them, but all it doesn't matter which expansion you buy).
