So.. are they going to have scrolls coming out soon? Like .. possibly for things that have the arcane keyword or something? Seems like a huge oversight for me not to have a scroll of fly or something.

I may have missed something but i looked at the ritual scrolls.. but it wasnt exactly what i was wanting.. Im talking about scrolls that you use for attacking like... a scroll of cure light wounds or something.

Unlikely that they'll ever have cheap, disposable versions of class powers, as item powers are supposed to be weaker than character powers as part of the lessening of gear-dependence.

Also all classes are supposed to have roughly similar options. If casters get scrolls, what do warriors get?

Remember, part of the reason casters got scrolls in 3e was to make up for the fact that unlike warriors they had only a limited number of spells (attack options) per day, after which they were next to useless at worse or sub-par warriors at best.

Lessening gear dependence???

In 4e all characters are pretty much required to have a magic weapon or implement of at least their own level to be viable! That is the opposite of "lessening gear dependence," isn't it?

Actually, its a huge decrease in dependence compared to last edition where you needed the magic weapon, and the ring of deflection, and the amulet of natural armor, and the gloves of dex, and the +X shield, and the +X armor, and the cloak of resistance, and the golf bag of +X weapons to overcome various resistances, ect.....and your AC was still outstripped my monster attack bonuses unless you were totally tweaked.

Not really. In 3e characters just as highly Dependant on magical items to keep their attacks, saves, and AC at the appropriate levels. It's just that those bonus were often spread out across a half-dozen or more items.

Now in 4e, each character only needs 3 items to keep their attacks, NADs, and AC in line. Characters that use both ranged and melee weapons (such as a ranger) or who use both weapon and implement powers (such as a cleric) may need a fourth item. Otherwise, all other magical items are effectively entirely optional, and hero may go their entire career without ever filling certain slots.

Also, with the nature of character powers as opposed to item powers, aside from the bonus to hit, items are just a nice accessory, not something that your entire character and their tactics comes to revolve around.

You mean 'let's cheat the system!' scrolls? Scrolls of 'Let's screw the Martials' and scrolls of 'Arcane is Better Just Because!' ?

No thanks.

I have been playing with the idea of a scroll like mechanic...crystals that hold level 1-7 encounter powers of your class... they are items level 23-30 and are cunsumable and use a 'daily' use...it seams about right so far...
