| #1doctorhookFeb 12, 2009 23:11:43 | http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drfe/20090213 This is the Necromancy article we've been waiting for. The downside is that there's no rituals. The upside is that it's got a bunch of new powers for Avengers, Bards, Clerics, Shamans, Swordmages, Warlocks (Dark and Infernal), and Wizards, across a variety of levels, lots with Necrotic damage. It also includes the Summoning keyword, because a few of the powers have it (and therefore are powers which can summon monsters into the fight), including powers for both Clerics (Summon Black Reaper) and Wizards (Animate Dead)! ![]() |
| #2chimeratechnologyFeb 13, 2009 7:48:06 | boy am I glad to see animate dead again!:D |
| #3ValienFeb 13, 2009 7:55:08 | Loved the Cleric's Level 22 Utility. |
| #4DragolothFeb 13, 2009 8:03:07 | I like most of these but Sealing Deaths Door seems extremely powerful. It makes anyone in the zone unkillable including the caster. |

The only way to kill the party then would be to stun / dominate / petrify the cleric, thus impeding him to sustain. That or else to drop them to hit points so low they would just all die once the combat ended. |

| #8MoribundFeb 13, 2009 13:48:07 | Wasn't there a Warlord Epic Destiny that did sort of the same thing? And it happened to be always active. Unyielding Company stopped working if the warlord was reduced to less than 1 hit point, and allies still had to make death saving throws and could die as a result of failed death saves. |
| #9brotherjgizmoFeb 13, 2009 14:45:45 | I'm guessing you can summon more than one creature in the same fight no? |
| #10doctorhookFeb 13, 2009 15:00:00 | I'm guessing you can summon more than one creature in the same fight no? I'm not sure, but I think so. IIRC though, for every summoned creature of yours that dies, you lose a healing surge for the day. Plus, since summoned creatures have no actions of their own, and therefore have to use your actions, it's probably tough to justify having more than one or maybe two summoned creatures at a time, so no hordes of summoned creatures (unless those hordes are treated as a single creature, like a swarm). |
| #11CK.356Feb 13, 2009 15:03:16 | Each summoned creature takes opportunity actions on its own though, right? |
| #12MoribundFeb 13, 2009 15:41:22 | Each summoned creature takes opportunity actions on its own though, right? It uses your opportunity action. That limits it to one per creature's turn. If you had two summoned creatures and an enemy provoked from both of them, you would only get to make one attack. |
| #13CK.356Feb 13, 2009 15:53:08 | That does make it weaker for multiple summons on solo fights. Still a couple of well positioned summons could mean you get to make an opportunity attack more often than anyone else so it does balance somewhat. The benefits of summoning certainly seem circumstantial. |
