We thought that it would be a great idea to have R&D or a gaming group at Wizards, record a few different types of skill challenges, in either audio (for podcast) or video (for multimedia). Examples: Skill Challenge -> Track a bear through the woods to its lair (E.g. what skills can be used, how aid another works and how it stops you from making your own check, how success and failure works, any comments about major successes/failures and the flow of time during the encounter) Skill Challenge -> Convince the Chancellor that you should be able to speak at the Kings Council (E.g. what skills you could use, how to determine what options are available for characters, what to players who don’t have any relevant skills do, how role-play vs roll-play can work at during a skill encounter and how the flow of time works during these encounters) Skill Challenge -> Stop the rowboat from sinking before you can tie it to the docks and offload the shipwreck survivors (E.g. a more complex skill encounter with multiple simultaneous goals, how to know what skills you could use, how to judge the difficulty of the skill test/challenge {do I need help with this}, and once again, how the flow of time effects the encounter, {so a player can only be solving one problem at a time, and not solving multiple issue at one or just using “aid another” for other simultaneous challenges.}) These skill encounters could be described in standard text format (so they can be used) and be accompanied with audio or multimedia file to show how it could play out, possibly with same DM and 2 different gaming groups to see the differences that a single skill encounter experience can be with different tactics and/or players. (Or just leech some footage from say GenCon, game day, etc) In fact people here could do this themselves, however a more "official" look at what the designers were intending would be better. You could put one example on website for free and put the other examples in the paid section. I think that this would be an excellent game aid and would supplement the core game rules with specific examples which can be elaborated on in much more depth than in the rulebooks. Hope this idea is helpful (as I know it would be for our gaming group) Cheers |

However the examples could be used to help many people who are still finding skill challenges, a bit, well, challenging to run. I think that further clarification would be beneficial to the gaming community. Cheers |
