| #1lizardmageMar 08, 2010 17:18:51 | I just bought my copy from my FLGS and they are very big sticklers on waiting for streetdate unless the company says it's ok to sell early. Going to a few other stores they all had it out too, so did WotC release early? |
| #2Duke5150Mar 08, 2010 17:36:41 | Does the minotaur still have that stupid "when you drop to 0 hp" racial feature? I hope not. Nothing is worse than an ability that only triggers when you die, are dying. Just sucks. |
| #3MindWandererBMar 08, 2010 17:36:44 | Many stores don't honor street dates. It's not even consistent within a franchise: you can find one Borders that has it on the shelf, and another one that won't put it out yet... and a third Borders that lets the crate collect dust for a week before noticing it should have been put out already. |
| #4mercaiusMar 08, 2010 17:41:22 | If you check some of the other threads up on this forum, you'll see mention of some "premier release" policy that certain registered stores are permitted to release early under, so there's that as well. |
| #5lizardmageMar 08, 2010 17:44:33 | Ahhh, might be that "premier release" thing as the two stores do tons of events for them. To answer the question on Minotaurs, yeah they still have that power, but you can take feats that let you use it bloodied, and another that lets you use it more often. |
| #6Crimson_ConcertoMar 08, 2010 17:52:28 | Another Minotaur question: Is its racial power still a standard action charge that nobody but a STR-based, melee class will ever want to use? On a related note, does it still have that same stupid Heedless Charge racial feature, likewise only useful to STR-based, weapon-using, melee classes? I've asked these before but never gotten any direct answers. |
| #7lizardmageMar 08, 2010 18:04:43 | Another Minotaur question: Yeah Minotaurs still have goring charge but now you can declare it Str, Dex, or Con (Can't remember if you could change it and dont have MM near me to check.) Headless Charge is there still also, but it's a +2 to AC against OA's when you charge, again unsure if that really changed. They are still being pushed as Melee, (Play this if you want to be a good, Fighter, Barbarian, Warden.) They very much work for all the Primal Classes and the Martial Classes. |
| #8Duke5150Mar 08, 2010 18:06:19 | Ahhh, might be that "premier release" thing as the two stores do tons of events for them. Bah! Guess I need to see how in the hell it's a benefit. But the whole point is to avoid dropping to 0 hp... I can guess how it could be useful, with the right feats, powers and items. Still, that just bugs. My friend who runs a minotaur hated that feature. He claimed that if you have high defenses, then it almost never kicks in, meaning you basically have one less feature, or you purposefully take terrible armor to keep defenses low, allowing you to use the feature, but then you end up a resource sponge, burning surges faster than anyone else after short rests. Basically a drain on the party. The only other person to run a mino so far requested a houserule on it, basically removing it completely in exchange for another benefit granted by the DM. (dm ended up granting a +1 attack rolls and a +1 to two defenses, which the player was more than willing to take) I can't wait to see the "I'm deadlier when I'm near death" combo. |

| #10ferol_debtor_of_tormMar 08, 2010 18:20:36 | Another Minotaur question: It's still bad but it's at least partially fixed. Fix: You can use any physical stat now. Problems it still has: It's still a standard action for what (post early heroic) is essentially a bad charging power. It still doesn't scale properly. It's +4/6/8 vs AC. Other races got their expertise built in, why didn't Charging Gore? Minotaurs now get a free healing surge. I suppose this is make up for the fact that they don't get a free +1 to a non-AC defense like the other +Str/+Con races. I'm not sure if I like this change but it's better than no compensation. Ferocity is still in but it's been slightly changed. It now works with any basic attack (so classes with good ranged basics but poor melee basics have a use for it) but it's now an interrupt instead of free. This has the downside of not working when you're dazed but now you can essentially negate an attack if you manage to drop the person who performed the attack that dropped you. |
| #11angelus_obscuraMar 08, 2010 18:44:49 | I got my copy from my FLGS today on my way home from work. Apparently, the store was one of those allowed to sell early as a promotion or something about Game Day (a prerelease one week b4 release date). Anyways, if anyone has questions, I'll do my best to answer them. ![]() |

I suppose this is make up for the fact > that they don't get a free +1 to a non-AC defense like the other +Str/+Con races. Bear in mind that they can now choose to be Str/Wis rather than Str/Con, so they're capable of getting two defense +es if desired. |
| #13Crimson_ConcertoMar 08, 2010 19:18:56 | Bear in mind that they can now choose to be Str/Wis rather than Str/Con, so they're capable of getting two defense +es if desired. Yes, this whole business of adding in flexible ability score bonuses for every race makes the original purpose for racial defense bonuses almost obsolete. |

This has the downside of not working when you're dazed but now you can essentially negate an attack if you manage to drop the person who performed the attack that dropped you. Which means that if you interrupted it and dropped them you never really dropped to 0 hp and couldn't make the attack and then the universe implodes in a paradox. They should have left it free. Interrupt in this situation is very porrly thought out. It should have been a reaction if it needed to be immediate at all. How do you interrupt being taken to 0 hp? You're either at 0 or you're not. There's nothing to interrupt. |

This has the downside of not working when you're dazed but now you can essentially negate an attack if you manage to drop the person who performed the attack that dropped you. That's how all Interrupts work. Something happens, you do something before it happens and potentially cancel the triggering event. It's why interrupts that boost your defenses when you get hit are awesome. |

It's why interrupts that boost your defenses when you get hit are awesome. True, but I do not believe that's quite how it works with interrupts related to HP loss, especially as it relates to powers that trigger when you drop to 0 HP. The action is taken before the results of being damaged are applied (in the case of Ferocity allowing the minotaur to attack just prior to losing consciousness), but unless the power specifically says otherwise the interrupt can't negated the damage. Contrast powers that trigger "when an attack drops you to 0 HP" vs. powers that trigger "when an attack would drop you to 0 HP". The latter triggers after damage has been determined, but before it is applied and thus can potential prevent the damage, however, the former triggers after the damage has been applied, but before the results of that damage takes effect and thus can only prevent that result if the power explicitly grants immunity to said effect. |
| #17Neutronium_DragonMar 09, 2010 4:26:04 | Yes. However, if you've got a means to heal with that melee basic attack then you'd stay up since the healing would pop you back above 0. |
| #18thaxMar 10, 2010 20:48:40 | My store explained that the Wizards got tired of punishings the book stores while the Gaming Stores "played by the rules" so they allow the gaming stores to sell the books early. |
