Sorcerers are coming out in PHBII, march of 09. They are going to be Arcane controllers. This is confirmed information.
What I'm wondering however, is how sorcerers will be set apart from wizards. I mean, the overlap is already there from 3rd, not to mention that they will share the title of arcane controller. I'm just wondering what WotC will do to make sure sorcerers don't come off as wizard clones.

Any thoughts?

They have said it will be similar to the "Wild Mage" class, so lots of unbridled power seeping out, uncontrollable side-effects, etc.

In other words:

Same mechanics different fluff.

Ranger and Rogue are both Martial Strikers, are they not? :P
They still manage to be very different. I have faith the Sorcerer will be significantly different from the Wizards as well. ;)

I'd hardly call, after lobbing a fireball your skin bursts into flame as the same as a wizard.

I expect the Sorcerer to be more close spells with fewer dice but uisng d12s for the encounter and daily powers

Could be, but I'm not sure there's any reason to think that Sorcerers won't be equally concerned with long-ranged blasting and controlling as Wizards are.

What I imagine 4E Sorcerer mechanics to look like is the attacks that the Kobold Wildmage has. (From Dragon #364? #365? It was the first 4E issue.) Anyway, the attack hits, but the damage type and secondary effect of the attack are determined randomly. Seems very wild-magicky to me.
