Any word on a Spelljammer 5th edition campaign book. I loved this setting in 2nd edition. What do all of you think?

I would love Spelljammer for 5e!  I would be happy with 1 Setting book, and 2 adventure paths = to The princes of the appocalypse to further detail the world.  I would not only buy this, I would pre order this!  But, alas with wizards stating that they do not intend to make a psionics book any time soon, nor does it look like they plan to support any worlds beyond The Forgotten Realms...at least not for a LONG time, I don't think we will ever see a return to Spelljammer.   In addition to this Spelljammer was canceled in 1993 and replaced with Planescape I believe the following year.  Both settings......kind of fulfill a similar purpose.   I desperatly hope that I am wrong,  But I don't think we have a chance of seeing Spelljammer for 5e.

Sorry to be the berrer of bad news.

Again I hope that I am very very wrong.

I don't think they fulfill entirely identical purposes. Spelljammer was more sci-fi, fantasy Star Trek, and Planescape was wierd fantasy. Both felt entirely different (Planescape lacked space/naval combat aspects and in Spelljammer you couldn't walk into other worlds by accident). I don't know if we'll see new books, 3.5 put out a series of Dragon magazine articles to support spelljammer, though I don't remember them doing anything for Planescape. 4e did touch on Planescape in the DMG 2, or at least just Sigil.

Maybe we could get some extended Unearthed Arcana articles for them. Best bet though is some fan group will make an update. Planescape has a big following that has updated AD&D Planescape into all sorts of rule systems. Spelljammer deserves the same following.

Would love to a Spelljammer book for 5e. I have plenty of fond memories of the original. It was so different from what had come before (as were Dark Sun and Planescape) and so zany.

But as gmanjkd said, it seems unlikely that we'd see that any time soon. Considering there isn’t even a Forgotten Realms core sourcebook for the new edition, and no word of such, it seems like any Spelljammer content would be a long ways off if at all.

I don't know what kind of royalties WotC gets from DriveThru, but lots of folks are mining the older material... pre 3.5... for adventures and campaign settings to convert to 5th. Not sure how economically feasable it is for WotC to produce updates of existing material for 5th.

I'm not a huge fan of FR. Not that there's anything wrong with the setting, but the sheer volume of data regarding Forgotten Realms makes it hard to move away from 'cannon'.
