Status of Game Table?

Alright, I tried using the search but it doesn't seem to be working. So, I haven't been keeping up with 4th edition or these forums for a while. Last time I checked the Game Table was a few months away from completion. I was skeptical, but I figured I'd give it some time.

What's the status on the Game Table tool? Online games would be enhanced with such a thing... I'm using OpenRPG for the moment.

Over in the DDI subforum there are...healthy...discussions about this. The bottom line from WotC is that they put the Character Builder out the door, and got the Compendium to some state of polish, and now they continue to polish them and evaluate what they will do next. There are no release dates, not even vague ideas of when things will come out (or, in fact, any statements that the remaining applications will come out at all, aside from promises that they intend to make D&D Insider the best it can be). The GameTable, Visualizer, and Dungeon Builder "coming soon" pages have been taken down, if that means anything.

Consensus among the 6 or so posters who've contributed to the "pool" thread is that if it isn't canceled, GameTable will be late 2010/early 2011. That's nothing more than a wild-ass guess, since we really have no information.

In the meantime, Battlegrounds, MapTool, OpenRPG, and Fantasy Grounds seem to be the most commonly used VTTs. I use MapTool, myself. It's more than adequate.

Yeah, that says it all.

Thanks.

A newcomer to the site who checked out the Insider section would never know about the Visualiser, Game Table and Dungeon Builder unless they researched the Insider articles.

Wizards may be considering the option of doing something different yet again, i.e new online products. Like the rest of us, I'm really looking forward to the 'no-news' being over.

Thanks.

Don't be so pessimistic! It's not cancelled, it's not cancelled! *crosses fingers*

FWIW, all of the VTTs I've tried are way complicated...

Depends on what you do with them, but yeah, they tend toward "not plug and play." I decided to commit a bunch of time to learning MapTool, so now it does 4E for me. But it took quite a bit of work.

I'm honestly not a fan of 4th edition. The main problem pops up as you level, enemy's HP increasing substantially while the player's damage levels off.
I also miss summonable, commandable minions.

I'm trying to manage along with 4th edition, despite my distaste for it, because it's a bit easier on the GM and if that's what the majority wants, I'll go with it.

Summonable, commandable minions are being released in Player's Handbook 2 this month and Arcane Power next month. As for monster HP, it's simple enough to adjust the totals at Paragon and Epic tiers, if that's what bugs you. 4E's a great system.

I made a promise and I've stuck to it. WotC does not get another penny out of me until their Virtual Game Table is up.

I only accepted the weak watered down pap that is 4e because I assumed they needed simplistic streamlined rules to make the electronic features like the game table easier to manage. Without the game table, 4e is pointless. Doesn't even have Gnomes, so whats the point?

I'm back to 3.5 and PLAYING HONEST TO GOODNESS GNOMES, spending my money on Monte Cook and Pathfinder products when I want more rules. I won't give WotC any money but I will give it the finger.

And hopefully, it will stay that way; otherwise, the price of D&Di will increase with no benefit for Mac Users because Hasbro doesn't see it as profitable to make cross-platform programs, and want to cash in on the WoW crowd, who HAVE to be using PCs to play WoW already.

I agree, gnomes are lame... but Virtual Gametable... that would be awesome. I'll be really chapped if they kill it.
