Today I am expecting to buy Monster Vault.
Not one post on this forum is responsible for convincing me. Not one aspect of Wizards marketing has been a positive force.
Talk as they say is cheap, and it is also not all that effective either.
Would you buy a car based on nothing but talk on a forum?
Would you buy anything sight unseen routinely?
Why do we insist on buying gaming stuff that way?
I yesterday saw a video of the Monster Vault.
Found it with Google by accident.

The video was short enough but decent enough. I SAW the tokens, actually SAW them finally.
I have been really just wanting to see the damned things, and no, not everyone can visit a store with an opened box. If you can, good for you
I was wondering though, should Wizards not flat out do this intentionally?

The guy mentioned numbers of tokens types of tokens details of the tokens, and opened the book and let me see how specifically it is printed and illustrated.

I'm not convinced.
People buy things for the reasons that they want to buy them. Everyone's threshold is different. The Monster Vault information on Wizards' site was enough for me: it contained tons of monster tokens. I didn't need any video convincing me that it would be a worthwhile purchase.
And on 8/27 they previewed the Beholder, which contains the art of the Carrion Crawler token. (Not fully showing exactly what a token looks like). But they do tell you what you get in the box, like ten sheets of monster tokens, books, adventures, maps.
I always assumed, that the tokens would be printed on stock similar to the tiles, and it seems they are.
And all of those links they have for articles about the monster vault, are open to all links, not DDi only links.
Amazon had it for 20, then I see it .com, drat that's US that means no free shipping. With taxes and shipping I decided not this time, the local retailer wins. I will only think with the wallet to a point. I won't ditch local retail for a puny savings. It has to mean something.
I also seem to think the Nentir Vale box will have promise if it is as comparable. Time will tell.
So I am left to wonder, why care about minis any more. Too much hassle to store, and being 3d has limits. The 10 sheets of tokens was nice. I will be taking pictures with the camera and making available eventually. A full view nice out of the box viewing. Not like I will be showing everything, but more than enough to make it very clear what is there.
I could get on board for a product that was oodles of tokens for players actually. Male female multiple classes for multiple races. Hey, they did 10 sheets in this one for 40 bucks after tax. And that's with a book and an adventure. I could see myself agreeing to 10-15 sheets of player use tokens for 20 bucks. It would be nice to be able to give a player a token of an Elf magic user that was actually an Elf Magic user. Rather than saying 'go find something that looks like an Elf non warrior in my collection (which usually means an Elf with a bow).
And I would not mind them doing MORE token monster vaults.

10 Humans, 6 Elves, 6 Dwarves, 6 Halflings, 4 Eladrin, 4 Half-Elves, 4 Drow, 4 Half-Orcs, 4 Dragonborn, 4 Tieflings. Add these two the player's tokens in the Red Box, and that's a sizable number of PC tokens to use when playing.
I agree. The tokens were enough to sell me on the Red Box, the DM's Kit, and the Monster Vault. If you love the Monster Vault, I'll tell you that DM's Kit has an entire sheet just with Player Character tokens. For each of the 10 races included in the two Player's Essentials books too.

Interesting the break down of races covered in the tokens. I say that wondering if WoTC has some info on what races people prefer to play.

Well the art is well hmm so so, but I might buy the DM kit just for the tokens

I bought the DM and MV based on info here on the site. the sheer volume of tokens is huge.
Gamma world excerpts too caught my attention and I bought that. they also have a load of compatable (albeit, low level) monsters to use in games, with tokens, and PC tokens as well.
In general though, if you're wallets doing the talking, then you'll just have to choose what's right for you.
No one has to buy everything...
