The Complete Package

Just a quick question: Shouldn't WotC just prepackage all the encounter areas for their modules; specifically I'm referring to H1 Keep on the Shadowfell. They did provide some of the encounter areas, but not all. This seems to be a good non-example of how to market a product completely.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't have to pay extra for them, but it seems to me that would be the marketable way to do this; just sell an extended packet of playable areas for an extra $10 or $15 dollars. This, (I know I'm straying a little bit) and a package full of minis to use specifically for the module would be nice. Again, I'm not trying to complain, but it would be nice to sell all of that as one package, similar to a collector's edition. All that and the module for $50. It seems to me like it would sell, rather than having players scavenge through other material and other programs and other resources trying to gather what they need. Just a thought to the marketing gurus over at WotC.

Looking back at my post, I am aware it sounds a tad bit negative. Trust me when I say I like the 4E rules and have loved this game for a long time. But, I think I'm just getting to that point in my life (close to 40 yrs old) where I would enjoy everything in one nice, neat, little package. This is especially true for the minis, since they are now a prerequisite to the game itself.

hmm i can't see them doing minis for only $15 (think of a3, thats alot of minis) but perhaps punchout tokens or something would be cool. Personally i have all the minis needed to run KoTS from dungeons of dread (except the gel cube, i used my 3e starter kit's token for that :p) kobolds and goblins are common (in fact your almost guarenteed a kobold or a goblin in each pack (yes I know thats a lot of packs,\.. but i buy minis in cases)

As is, buying minis for D&D is not cost effective. If WotC would sell singles, or sets (encounter sets), that would work better. But yeah, for those of us with less money, buying cases to get enough of the generic baddies is not an option.

That said, I was personally upset to see that there were no token type things in KotS. I mean, including encounter specific maps and NOT including the tokens is like trying to give someone half an oreo. It just doesn't make sense. Give them the entire oreo, or none at all.

THAT said, they could easily fix this by making tokens to print and cut out, and letting us download it. It would go a LONG way towards fixing the whole "not enough cash to buy all the minis needed" predicament.
