#1 leif519 Aug 16, 2014 22:04:20	Hello, now that 5th edition has been formally released, I was wondering if a point will come where the 4th edition character builder will become free for anyone to use. I understand that it would not be fair for current insiders if it were available in the near future, but if there were a point were insider subscriptions were taken out of circulation (or replaced) and then the creator would be available.
#2 arnvid2008 Aug 21, 2014 23:08:40	How do you mean 'free for anyone to use'?   Do you mean 'free for anyone to create a 4th edition character and then store that character in the 4th edition character vault on the Wizards server' OR   do you mean 'free for anyone to download the 4th edition Character Builder AND the 4th edition Compendium to a suitable PC'?   I highly suspect that the answer to both of those defintions will be 'NO'.   No matter how we may wish it to be otherwise, storage space on the Wizards server is not free;   also as long as Wizards and their corporate parent can glean a few remaining cents from the gaming public, neither the 4th edition Character Builder nor the 4th edition Compendium will ever be 'free for download by anyone'.   I believe that one of the senior editors at Wizards has stated that the 4th edition software will remain in service as long as there are paying subscribers.   Thus, if you want 4th edition to remain available, renew your subscription AND tell your gaming friends either to renew their subscriptions or to start a subscription.
