Hello everybody,

Atari has only two D&D video games coming out this year, but it is now what we really want. We want a revival of the old video game series. Whether The Black Hound: Baldur's Gate 3 comes out this year or the next. It should get made. Sign the petition.

.....I don't have enough time to dig through that entire site, but have there actually been any instances where the success of the petition's goal was actually linked to the petition? In my quick look I found one "victory", but nothing to indicate the petition caused the victory.

Regardless though, that site seems to focus on governmental issues, so my initial statement stands as I lucked out in specifying companies! :P

Not trying to be rude, but the OP assumes a lot. He/she says that the two games coming out this year are not what "we" want. Maybe, but "we" is a big group. There are plenty of individuals out there that do want games like this.

Your dollars are what does the voting for you in this case, not an online petition...

As far as I can tell, Apple took down the app that "re-educates" homosexuals only after thousands of people signed the Change.org petition.  Before the petition, they claimed it was an example of a "good app."  That says something to me.  Can't make a direct link, however…

Why are we talking about homosexuals?

Back to topic, is Atari really going to do anything if we dont tell them we want something to happen. As far as I can see, nobody said anything to Atari after it was announced that The Black Hound: Baldur's Gate 3 was canceled. A couple of forums went up, people said their "Aw Man"'s and then that was it.

Activision Forums on every post you see: Make a DLC! Make a new map-pack! Release a sequel to this game you ****'s! Literally. Have any D&D Fans done that. No. I think I'm the first and I think if this becomes succesful we could actually have a new game.

So please sign it.

Don't know too much about the future of D&D games, but the past is well accounted for.

This is Good Old Games.  It has the following titles.

This is Steam.  It has Neverwinter Nights 2 Platinum (Neverwinter Nights 2 plus Mask of the Betrayer and Storm of Zehir).

Aside from the Gold Box stuff and a few others which seem to have vanished into license hell, the only games we're missing are the Capcom Arcade games.

I don't believe that there's much of a point in asking for a Baldur's Gate 3 after everyone involved in the first games scattered into the winds.  It would be Baldur's Gate in name only, and if you're determined enough to launch a petition to get BG3, I don't think you'll be pleased with that result.

LightWarden, I know about the past and thank you for caring.

But thats the past and we need a good future for D&D video games, so show some love and sign the petition please. If it does not suceed it will at least show that there is still a prominent fan-base out there.

Hasbro made the mistake of giving Atari the exclusive license to D&D for a ridiculously long time,  although I think it expires next year or maybe the one after.

Atari,  historically,  makes horrible games.  Which is why they're pretty much bankrupt.  Their original name,  before they tried to hide it,  was Infogrammes.  They're got a pretty long history of taking anything that remotely looked cool,  and releasing it 6 months early with the latest buzz-words forced into it.

Atari is in such dire straights they've been selling off high-profile IPs for the last few years.

So odds are good,  at this point,  Hasbro's just waiting for the license to expire so they can hand it off to someone else.  Hopefully,  they've got a a good enough idea of what's going on this time not to give it to either Bioware(EA) or Bethseda,  Obsidian would be a wise choice IMO.  Double Bear (Dead State) and Iron Tower (Age of Decadence) look like they're going places too.

ill probably grab the daggerdale game, its a co op and gives me and the lady something to do together during our time in summer, i dont like that it wont let you make your own character but i see no reason to be upset over it, it could be fun.

@ gatt imo bioware is producing the best RPGs on the market right now, obsidian did not live up to bioware when they did knights of the old republic 2. (hence why they brought the franchise back to bioware to build the MMO)

bethesda has fallout and the elder scrolls series under its belt, but they have to figure out how to make their games less monotonious, having the camera shoved in an NPCs face with 4 voice acters for 200 hours isent really that entertaining, that said they can make one beautyful world.

but this is opinion and speculation and i respect that you may or may not know more about it then me,

Nope.  The license was renewed for ten years in 2007, so it expires in 2017.  Hasbro wound up suing them in 2009 because they were just sitting on their rears with it, which contributed to the development of Neverwinter and Daggerdale.  I don't know if Obsidian will take it again if offered, since I don't think they were exceptionally thrilled with the arrangement last time.

I hope someone hashes out an agreement with Capcom so we can put the arcade releases on XBLA and PSN.

Okay look guys, I did not know about change.org. But this is not a petition about Baldur's Gate. You might think it is, but its a petition against Atari on how they are not making use of the D&D licence, you see if we start with Baldur's Gate re-release and then continue to The Black Hound: Baldur's Gate 3, and then we could persuade Atari to release NWN3, then Icewind Dale 3 and then any other game that you guys want. It should just start with Baldur's Gate.

And what are Capcom's Arcade Games, I'll make a petition of whatever that is on change.org if you guys want me to? And besides five people have signed it now, the numbers are rising! I know it!

Those were made by Interplay not Capcom. I looked into Capcom and they release an arcade D&D Game called the Tower of Doom.

You want a Baldur's Gate rerelease? O.o Why? You can get both games and the expansions on Amazon for 16 dollars. Oh and you are way too optimistic on your ability to get any of that done, even if people on the internet weren't inheritly jaded about their ability to impact companies.

If they are talking about the D&D tower of doom series. That's basically what the baldur's gate series of console games were. There was less choice, but they are pretty much the same. It was simply the next level of that particular style of game. Just as D&D:Tactics on the Playstation Portable was the next iteration of the gold box series (albeit with almost no RP aspects left in it at all)...

That isn't a rerelease that is a remake.....And you do realize that Bioware make the games originally? I highly doubt that Atari could manage a remake that managed even a small portion of Bioware's quality. Besides you wouldn't be able to use all the mods out there with a remake!

Not going to happen.  Game development costs have gone up by a factor of ten in the past decade.  They're not going to throw down tens of millions on a vanity project like that, especially when the current system is doing well enough.  It's a pseudo-turn-based Infinity Engine game based on 2nd edition D&D.  Even if you remake it for a new audience, the 2nd edition mechanics are going to be a huge barrier to entry.  If you want amazing 3D graphics, it gets very expensive very quickly, and it's probably still not going to be that great looking.  Plus, one of the fun parts of the modern RPG is fully-voiced characters, which is really expensive and troubling to deal with, especially given the scale of the trilogy.

Look, the Baldur's Gate series sold something like five million copies in all.  Final Fantasy VII sold over twice that, and fans have been clamoring for a high-quality re-release for years.  Square Enix is much more well-off than Atari is, and even they acknowledged that actually remaking an incredibly popular game with today's technology isn't worth the cost.  And RPGs are still kind of a niche market, with the big ones dipping heavily into action elements (and action games starting to dip into RPG elements).  If they wanted to get the sales to justify the huge expense, they'd probably strip out as many of the unintuitive 2nd edition elements as possible to streamline it, which would probably alienate people like you who want the game re-released.  People who really like Baldur's Gate already own it and not all of them are going to want to buy it again at full price for graphics updates they don't really need.

You're asking a financially shaky game studio to sink tens of millions of dollars and several years remaking a decade-old game from scratch without any members of the original design team that needs to sell millions of copies to fractured audience whose desires are mutually exclusive (old audience already has the game and would probably be hostile to some changes; new potential audience requires changes to not be scared off).  On the other hand, they can just keep selling the series on Good Old Games for a low price, and get some money from the people who are already interested in experiencing the game as it is.

If you win a few hundred million dollars in the lottery and want to personally pay them to remake the series, then maybe they'll listen.

Ok. I'm going to bite again.
I'll be honest and say that I think Final Fantasy VII is massively overrated. It's good, but it isn't (to quote one magazine) 'the best in the series by a very long way.'
I've recently played III and IV on the DS, (and I've got V and VI on GBA) and, in all honesty I really could do without the voices. [Then again, I'm one of those people who think the pictures are better on radio]
Would I like to see a remake of VII? Probably not. I've still got it. I've still got my Playstation. I can go back to it any time I want to. And I have a feeling it's too big to fit on a DS cartridge, which is the one thing that might change my mind.

But we're talking about Baldur's Gate.
Now, I'll admit, I'm biased. I didn't like it.  Do I think a remake is viable?
The thing is, as Lightwarden pointed out, it's based on 2nd edition. Now, do they keep the 2nd edition mechanics - which are a lot less familiar these days, or update it to 4th edition, which will bring the cost up, and for all I know, possibly break things? And, of course, change the feel of the thing so it doesn't feel like the original.
If we're talking about an x-th anniversary re-release with a wholebuncha extras... I'm not convinced that's a good plan. For one thing, who's going to buy it? People who haven't played it before? I'm not convinced. No, the people who will buy it will be the people who want the art books/everything else, rather than people who want the game.

If we're talking about Baldur's Gate 3... That's a different matter. But then again, I'm still not interested.

Well that's fine. Some of us are interested. By the way a DS cartridge can hold about 4+ GB of data so they could fit all of the final fantasy games up to 9 combined on one cartridge.

I'd have no problem if they updated the Baldur's Gate series to the latest ruleset and since that's exactly what they tried to do when Icewind Dale II came out using the 3.0 ruleset. A group of enterprising hac....programmers modified the original Baldur's gate I & II so it would run in the Icewind Dale II engine. There was a lot of community support. I'm sure the community would be equally supportive of a remake that uses 4E rules...

If you own a Playstation Portable, a Playstation 3, and the original game discs for final fantasy VII (PS1) you can use their PS3 program to put it on your PSP and are able to play it from there... or you can do the google thing...

Why would they do this? They have already re-released both games and expansions as a 4 in 1 pack, so if you want the game you can get it.

And Baldur's Gate 3 is not going to happen. Closest you are going to get is Dragon Age Orgins since it was made by the company that did Baldur's Gate and attempted to recapture the spirit of those games.

Okay then...

Let me list what I want:

1) Re-Released with concept art book and stuff.
2) Updated to fourth edition rules.
3) Baldur's Gate 3 : It does not matter who makes it.
4) If possible BG3 and BGre-release on PS3.

Why not gog.com? It sucks and not everybody likes online download, in fact: NOT EVERYBODY HAS INTERNET! Why not the re-release? It's Europe only and I'll have to eBay it and then again: NOT EVERYBODY HAS INTERNET! Why not the Black Isle Compilation? Its as hard as ass to find.

Lmao, I'm not going to sign no matter what you change it to. I just enjoy pointing out flaws in what other people say(probably why I am a law student).

Why are you bringing gog.com up? I've never heard of that site before....although apparently it has Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 for download, although Amazon would be 2 dollars cheaper(not counting shipping). And why would you have to ebay anything? You can get the rerelease off of Amazon.com(the US site) cheap.

They aren't going to update it to 4th edition because that would basically require an entire rebuild of the entire game.

If "Baldur's Gate 3" isn't made by Bioware, then it really isn't Baldur's Gate 3 as no one else makes WRPGs like Bioware.

BG1&2 are horrible choices for console ports. The interface wouldn't translate well at all, and they would have to do a remake of the game for it to be even slightly competitive in the modern market due to the dated graphics engine.

Your probably right if your a law student.

What if I deleted this petition and created a new one telling Atari to team-up with Interplay and re-release the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance series for the PS3. Interplay has repeatedly said that they would develop this if Atari would publish it and then develop Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 3.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance was on the PS2 so a port for graphics would not be that much of a biggie, especially since the DA Engine was so advanced, then rules updates: Not much of the 3rd Edtion Rules were placed into DA, so updating those wont be hard.

What do you think?

O_o What does being a law student have to do with anything besides being proof that I like to argue and dread having to enter the real world(my reason for entering law school)? I just brought it up as a minor anecdote as to my love of arguing.

And I really don't care about the Dark Alliance games. I played the first one. It wasn't even remotely close to Baldur's Gate 2, so I didn't bother with the second one. All I remember about it was it was a hack and slash that completely ignored all forms of D&D rules. I suppose there is a vague chance of a third game from that series being possible....not that an online petition is going to do anything.

Have you tried Amazon.com?  It's $16 for the 4-in-1 DVD.  And for the people who have computers but don't have internet, they're rapidly becoming pushed out of the world.  Online sales have boomed while brick stores are closing in many places.
