Fighting Style Feats add small bonus's to powers that are associated with that feat Weapon Expert/Specialization Feats add weapon powers to the martial characters arsenal much like Channel Divinity Feats do of Divine Characters. Very cool. Also the article introduces the Whip, Net and Bola as weapons, a must for gladiators! Has anybody else read the article? an opinions on it? |

It's interesting, and I hope they include more options like this in Martial Power (and the future Power books, for that matter). The various feats look like they'd be interesting additions to builds, allowing for more fine-tuning of characters. And there's a feat to allow a Quarterstaff as a double weapon, which I'm sure Staff Wizards will be all over. ![]() The Arena Fighting feats add a bit more utility to some of your powers; generally, though, they're only going to affect one thing you do (although they might help to inform power-swap feats for multiclass characters). The Arena Champion PP looks solid, with some flavorful abilities and powers. I'm actually thinking about putting the Battle Harness on my Wizards' Wish List... retrieve a stowed item as a free action and get the enhancement bonus as a power bonus to Initiative? Nice... although that last should either have a frequency attached to it or be made a property (it's currently listed as a Power). More weapons are always a good thing to have, and all three of the ones listed here are Flails... which will make some people happy. ![]() |

It really does add to the concept the designers were talking about when making your fighter character unique from every other fighter. Using the multiclass mechanic also makes mechanical sense as well, since it keeps on the same power well. The only question I have is does it prevent you from actually picking the multiclass feat? Or could you Paragon path it? |

The only question I have is does it prevent you from actually picking the multiclass feat? It would prevent you from taking another MC feat just as any other MC feat does. Also right now there are no PPs and no way to PMC with it so it seems to be used for specializing more than diversifying. However, I should say that I find it highly probable that we will see a PP at some point that focuses on exotic weapons and, if these weapon mastery feats continue, uses those so I wouldn't be too worried about that. Perhaps there will be one in MP. |
| #6emwasickOct 17, 2008 14:41:25 | I was impressed with the huge amount of crunch in this article. I've said this elsewhere, but it bears repeating: This article has as much new stuff as some *books* I've bought over the years. If anyone has bought the magazines a lot in the past, is this amount of stuff normal? I'm impressed, but maybe the print mags were this generous too and I'm just late to the party. |

I have copies of Dragon going all the way back to the 80's and i have never seen crunch of that quantity or quality in the magazine. It is an awesome article. Also, it has got me salivating to get my hands on the Martial powers book, imagine what i can do with my many martial characters when i get ahold of it! :evillaugh |

If they continue this pattern with the Power books, I'll have no choice but to dedicate a full bookshelf to the new set. Can't wait to see what else they've got in there. Hopefully more than gladiator and arena style stuff, which is good outside of those, but I'd like to see other setting themed type feats and multiclass goodies, like a dungeon-delver, forest marauder, pirate themed stuff that is still good to a lot of people in the same way the gladiator stuff is. Makes the insider subscription worth it already and it's only been a week! |
| #10BelorinOct 20, 2008 19:56:21 | I had a 2E Gladiator NPC that I loved to bring in from time to time if the party was light on combat types, in 3.5 the class disappeared and she became an Exotic Weapon Master with a gladiator background, she specialized in the double scimitar. Now it looks like she can be reborn in all her original glory. Bel |
