Man, I never thought I'd see the day!  This is great news!  I was 12 when I went through it the first time, way, way back in the late 1970s.

I cannot wait to run the adventure and see how things have been tweaked for the new system.  That, and it saves me from having to convert it myself.

Thanks for bringing this one back!

I haven't actually ever gotten to play the original but the old module is legendary enough that I know enough to be excited myself.

It's the 10th-22nd level part that gets me. If that's true this module could be a whole campaign in it's own right!

In the original, most parties died before they ever got into the tomb.

Word has it that this release isn't a typical sequential adventure, but rather a series of delve like mini-adventures.

You mean Robilar.

And hopefully, they'll have the Return and more added to the end of it. EPIC PROPORTIONS.

I'm curious to see how the 4e version plays. I wasn't a huge fan of the AD&D tomb and return adventures. It wasn't nearly has hard as some of the homebrewed adventures our dm's threw at us.  Now conquest of the nine hells, was a seriously hardcore adventure.

I can't wait I played the first one all those years ago and can not wait to see what the do with the 4th edition version as long as it stays true to the original.

I'm happy too, though a touch sad because now my conversion is pointless *coughcoughmysig*

Now I can revisit my favorite places like the room that was nothing but a greased slide into a pit on fire or that door wherein whatever passes thru ceases to exist, all in a new edition. Happy days await my party.

I wonder if they'll redo the rather loopy but amusing White Plume Mountain sometime.

They said it was a super adventure; that's why its 10-22 level.  I can't wait.

Wouldn't it cool if it were adapted for LFR and the party got credit for playing the adventure? That would be something to boast about in my opinion.

"I got this weapon when my character finished the Tomb of Horrors at the Con last year."

I can't wait to see this 4E version of the most deadliest Tomb we ever adventured in the 80's !

Im Thrilled to hear this (cause im new). But im woriied about... "You step into the sphere of analiation but it does 2d1 damage", " But a magical fairy comes and rescues you from the lava (the lava does 1d10)".

I believe that 4e can do masterpieces but i hope wotc doesnt forget that.

The original Tomb of Horrors is famous (infamous?) for being something of a meat grinder adventure, with death traps galore.  Given how 4e downplays "instadeath" or "save-or-die" situations (rightly so, in my opinion), I'm looking forward to seeing how they keep the adventure true to its deadly roots while porting it to 4e's design philosophy.

Not that i would want insta-death for most adventures, but for ToH i hope they keep the original lethality.

Ah, the tomb of horrors. I played that in 3.5. It was down right brutal. I think my Healer died twice, and he wasn't receiving the worst from it. Can't recall if it was ever fully plundered. My Healer stayed dead and I wasn't a part of that group after that 'cause I was just visiting.

But yeah, I'd like to see if I can recognize the stuff. Maybe there'll still be that Sphere of Annihilation within the gargoyle's mouth at the entrance. All too brutal.

" I put my hand into the dark mouth....." Oh dear.

I think 4e can certainly do deadly (KotSF was pretty deadly at times) - it's doing deadly through traps without getting boring that's hard.  I reckon they'll tone down the deadliness, to be honest.  But, then again, maybe they'll want to avoid negative grognard reception and over-correct the other way.....  If that happens it could be even deadlier!

Eitherway, I'm probably gonna get it.

Sorry to cast Thread Necromancy on this, but I'm going through this right now and it's bada$$.  Really quality conversion... definitely keeps the lethality lol.

Just d/l your conversion dieffenbachj and man... you've done some awesome stuff!!!
Keep faith WotC will do as better as you...

Will seriously consider test running it since I planned to try to convert it myself.

I think they'll do a fine job with it. Some of the devs show passion for the work they put into 4th edition and I can only hope they're doing it because of that. I'd like the adventure to be extremely difficult and deadly. To me, the only way traps and encounters become tedious is when they pose no threat. If each encounter has the threat of death and they're abundantly dishing out PK's, I think it'll be great. The whole idea is to see if you can run the gauntlet that is the Tomb of Horrors.

Of course, anyone who I run this adventure for will be allowed to make characters for it start at 11th level. I can't imagine anyone would take a character that they've previously leveled to that place. I wouldn't.

BTW, kudos on your conversion, dieffenbachj.
