| #1zallinJan 19, 2009 18:04:26 | Has anyone see The Warden yet? I'm just curiouse, is this a druid replacement or just another nature based class? |
| #2zallinJan 19, 2009 18:10:02 | ok great. I was worried for a moment.:D |
| #3tuszJan 19, 2009 18:11:14 | They're a primal defender class. While Fighters seem to be part striker and Paladins are part leader, Wardens seem to be part controller. They have a lot of slides in their powers. Their daily powers transform them into specific animal forms. Thematically, it's similar to a Druid's wild shape. Mechanically, though, it seems to work similarly to a Barbarian's rages, with a few notable differences. |
| #4mr_teapotJan 19, 2009 18:11:54 | Well, we saw a preview of the first three levels in Dragon a little bit back. The Warden doesn't replace the Druid at all: one is a defender and one is a controller. So they are related, complementary classes that do different jobs. The Warden is to the Druid like the Paladin is to the Cleric (or more accurately, as a Swordmage is to a Wizard). Though if you're trying to adapt over a melee focused druid from 3rd ed, you might pick Warden over Druid for the job. Which is less "replacing" the Druid than it is dividing up one can-do-anything class into multiple, more reasonable classes. |
| #5TheLoneClericJan 19, 2009 19:17:17 | It's very much like the Barbarian's Rages. But in his case he shifts into a partial transformed form and gets a cool bonus and an encounter power that fits the theme of whatever Defenderish thing he's doing. Things like push attacks, extra damage, zone of rough terrain. It's just a wicked cool class. |
| #6zallinJan 20, 2009 10:00:15 | Sounds pretty freaking cool. Has any one seen the druid? Im interested what they are all about. I would imagine they are a controller class. Do they still have wild shape and summon natures ally? |
| #7rikijiJan 20, 2009 10:08:43 | Sounds pretty freaking cool. Has any one seen the druid? Im interested what they are all about. I would imagine they are a controller class. Do they still have wild shape and summon natures ally? Wild shape, yes; summons nature ally - not in any form that's been previewed so far. There was a preview of levels 1-3. And yes, they're a controller class. Wild shape is an at-will minor ability that lets you switch between normal form and a 'primal beast' form, each of which has a different selection of powers to use. |
| #8brotherjgizmoJan 20, 2009 13:47:15 | Overall the designers of the games have really pushed the envelope and created immensely good classes for the primal power source (although my best-friend might unleash his invoker-fury on me if he read this. Guy loves the invoker) |
| #9zallinJan 20, 2009 15:49:40 | Yeah too bad we have to buy another book for them |
| #10zeratulcraftJan 20, 2009 16:00:21 | At least we're getting more than 3 base classes per book. |
| #11zallinJan 20, 2009 16:39:30 | How many classes come in PHB 2 any way?![]() |
| #12Crimson_ConcertoJan 20, 2009 16:47:21 | How many classes come in PHB 2 any way? 8, same as the first PHB. Avenger Barbarian Bard Druid Invoker Shaman Sorcerer Warden |
| #13fey_felineJan 20, 2009 19:10:15 | 8, same as the first PHB. Avenger: Needs more info. I know nothing about this. Barbarian: Why not just edit fighter? Bard: yay. Druid: Double yay. Invoker: Explain? Shaman: yay. Sorcerer: Wizard edit or what? Warden: Spiffeh. Any release date yet? |
| #14DiamondfistJan 20, 2009 19:42:02 | Avenger: Needs more info. I know nothing about this. Is March 17, 2009 soon enough? My birthday's on the 26th so I'm getting this for myself. The Warden looks pretty cool, but I'm not too keen on the name. |
| #15superdeadsmurfJan 20, 2009 20:43:23 | Avenger: Needs more info. I know nothing about this. a: There is the barbarian-like fighter variant in marital handbook. It's Still a defender. This is a strikerier, more nature themed I AM MAD AND WISH TO HIT YOU WITH MY AXE class. b: agreed, yay. Love the powers I've seen. c: triple yay even. Very cool powers too :D d: Kinda like the favoured soul of 3.5, but a controller. Gets power directly from the gods to do their will. Seems pretty neat, lacking in the healing dept. e: Can't wait to see what this is like. f: Supposed to be different than the wizard. Two classes in the same power source and role can be very different (see ranger and rogue) g: I like it too. March get sooner! |
| #16mr_teapotJan 21, 2009 13:08:36 | f: Supposed to be different than the wizard. Two classes in the same power source and role can be very different (see ranger and rogue) Of course, in the recent D&D Podcast, Sorcerer wasn't listed as a Controller class. It still might be one and they just didn't mention it, or it might have changed role at some point in development (it's been like over a year since anyone at WotC mentioned Sorcerer as a controller, I think). But whatever role Sorcerer fills, it'll step on someone's toes: Arcane is the first power source to have all four roles filled: Wizard = Controller, Warlock = Striker, Swordmage = Defender, Bard = Leader, and Artificer (only a preview so far) is a Leader, too. So Sorcerer will have to share a role with another Arcane class. Of course, as the Ranger and Rogue do this without trouble (and the Artificer and Bard do too), I am sure a Sorcerer can distinguish itself from the other Arcane class of the same role somehow. |

My vote would be for Defender. I don't know why, It just makes sense to me for some strange reason. |
| #18superdeadsmurfJan 21, 2009 21:31:03 | Sorceror was confirmed as an arcane controller a long while ago. I just can't for the life of me remember when and where. It was said by someone in Wotc R&D though. |
| #19ranadielJan 22, 2009 6:25:50 | Sorceror was confirmed as an arcane controller a long while ago. I just can't for the life of me remember when and where. It was said by someone in Wotc R&D though. Yeah and the Druid was confirmed as being a hybrid role a long time ago as well. The Druid is now a single role(controller). It is possible that the podcast was correct and the sorceror is in fact no longer a controller. |
| #20TheLoneClericJan 22, 2009 11:25:49 | Yeah and the Druid was confirmed as being a hybrid role a long time ago as well. The Druid is now a single role(controller). It is possible that the podcast was correct and the sorceror is in fact no longer a controller. Your over thinking it. The Druid thou a controller can shift into his wild form and starts acting like a striker. So he is technically a hybrid. Most of the classes are hybrids depending on the power you take. The later classes more so. That being said, they didn't outright deny that the Sorcerer will not be an Arcane Controller. They didn't talk about it at all really. So last as we heard. It's an Arcane Controller. But we can at least confirm the Sorcerer is Arcane thanks to it being named on the cover of the Arcane Power book. |
| #21Axiomatic_BadgerJan 22, 2009 11:38:22 | Behold the Avenger! |
