| #1TullochMar 30, 2011 18:54:55 | I noticed a couple of other threads along this line, but I felt compelled to add in my own thoughts. There are a few things I'd like to see done in 4e, now that the system is a few years old: 1) Would love to see the deities in the Character Builder finally fleshed out. There are still several out there that say "This deity is not yet detailed". Shouldn't this be a thing of the past after what, two years or better of the Character Builder being around? 2) Would really like to see Dungeon Master's Guide 3 come out sometime soon. The system has been around since 2008. I agree that it may have been too soon to come out with this book when it was originally scheduled, as many campaigns had not yet reached epic level. But now, some guidance would be appreciated, as well as more options and things to use in that tier. 3) I'm a Realms fan, so I'd really like to see a product devoted to Returned Abeir. The FR Campaign Guide did a good job of giving us a starting point, but there needs to be something more, in my opinion. After all, Maztica was replaced by this continent, and it has changed the Realms in many ways. I can only imagine how life has changed for those on Returned Abeir. How has this changeover affected the politics, power structures, and even the mundane aspects of daily life? What adventure sites are there to be explored? Who are the power brokers, new villains, and powerful heroes who oppose them? 4) More functional tools on Insider. I know they're working on these, but they're still well behind what they promised a couple years ago. I know Wizards is doing their best to keep the game we love rolling and growing. Even if I seem a bit snarky, understand that I am a player of 30 years, have gone through all editions of the game, and have a fairly extensive collection of material. My current group has two 4e campaigns going right now. I'm not asking out of anger for these things. I'm just asking for the things I think would benefit 4e and keep it moving forward. If anyone wants to add to this, feel free ![]() |
| #2MarandahirMar 30, 2011 20:05:17 | In the vein of your desires, Tulloch, I'm going to post some of my own. 1) A book or box set devoted to the Feywild. We're seeing a Shadowfell box set soon, and we're getting a Shadowfell Player book, and a Feywild Player book, but we've yet to get an announcement for a full product to focus on the setting of the Feywild. This is one of the most interesting developments of 4e away from previous editions (where Fey were always very similar to spirits and elementals as forces of nature), and is very attractive to me. It's the one major plane that hasn't been detailed yet, so it's only a matter of time until we get it. But I'd like to see it sooner rather than later. 1Q of 2012 perhaps? 2) A closer look at Sarlona and Adar in Eberron. I always thought the idea of running a game in the eastern continent under the control of the Inspired and with the dissendent forces of Adar would be a fascinating study, but the region has barely been touched. I'm sure there are 3.5e products out there, but I shouldn't have to go purchasing old material for a the new edition to get the setting flavour. Besides, Setting books have so much potential for mechanics, and for inclusion of enemies and monsters that would make the older books somewhat useless. I know they only said there would be three books per setting, but now Forgotten Realms is getting a second Campaign Guide, this one set specifically on the Neverwinter Region (certainly, to help market or profit off the cross-marketing of the new Neverwinter Nights game, but it's still a setting book). I think it's okay, as long as the splat is limited, to expand the setting books somewhat. Xend'rik and Argonessan would like similar treatments for the Eberron setting, but I'm particularly interested in Sarlona. 3) More Domains of Dread in Dungeon, or a book devoted to them. Maybe we'll get something on them in the Shadowfell Box set. But these are some of the most interesting and fun elements to play with. It would be nice to have one actually feature Count Strahd and Barovia, but when they were waiting for the Ravenloft Setting, they probably were holding that Domain of Dread off for then. But now it's being folded back into core, as we saw the Vampire move to Heroes of Shadow, and I'd like to see the Barovia Domain of Dread. I can partially build it, since I've got Strahd from Open Grave, but I'd like a good full write up on it. 4) More ways to use strange and interesting weapons like Blowguns or Whips. I can add them to my characters, but it would be nice to see some class ideas build off of interesting weapon usages. 5) Art importing into the Character Builder, or else WotC increasing the character portraits for the classes and races in the Character Builder. Right now, what is offered is not adequate. I often create my own pogs from pictures I have on my computer to use with a GameTable program, usually drawn from official D&D art. And still, they D&D art used isn't in the builder. The Pogs in the new box sets are great, but I can create my own as well, using the pictures I want. Basically, I want more ways to officially use my pictures. If I am to use the Virtual Table, I want to be able to represent my character the way I want to look. Which means allowing me more than just one Shadar-kai portrait, for example (versus the ten or so different Warforged pictures? Seriously?) 6) Articles like Faith and Heresy looking at fundamental issues for each of the Power Sources. Power Sources are themes that classes draw on, but they also unite these classes, even if the classes use multiple power sources, like the Hunter or the Executioner. I'd like to see some more flavourful articles that help with getting into fundamental story points for themes. Which leads me to… 7) More flavourful discussion of the Arcane Power Source. This source often gets the most flack due to being all over the place. When I think of it, I can't define where the power comes from, but I can define what does unite the classes – a potential for a relationship with a Harry Potter-esque academy. There were a couple good articles in this vein earlier on, like the White Lotus Academy series on both sides of the magazine split. But I'd like to see something written that really examines what it means to be a member of the Arcane Power source. Primal Power was the first in the X Power series of books to really examine what it meant to be a member of that power source, and this was continued in Psionic Power and Martial Power 2. But Arcane Power and Divine Power didn't get the same sort of flavour. Divine Power got some flavourful panels throughout, but Arcane Power was almost devoid of flavour outside of the new features. There were a handful of panels, and a few short stories or what seemed to be the beginning of short stories, but these don't help enough. I want to see something really flesh out what it means to have mastered Arcane Power – whether that means being naturally talented (Sorcerer), very studious (Wizard, Mage, Artificer), a bit of both (Bard, Swordmage), or cheated to get ahead (Warlock, Hexblade, Binder). I want a book, box set, or series of articles looking at Arcane Academies, the relationships between students, the dark hidden places where Necromancy, Nethermancy, and/or Pyromancy are practiced, looking at the difference between Big Arcane Industry in Eberron versus Traditional Fantasy Arcane in Forgotten Realms and the Core Setting versus the Preserver/Defiler Divide and Hidden Arcane in Dark Sun. I want to read about how and if the Schools of Magic as seen with Mages are practiced by other Arcane classes. I want to read about the relationship with Rituals and with Alchemy. The Arcane Power source really deserves it's own book – not an Arcane Power 2, featuring mainly new builds and support for classes like the Artificer, Swordmage, and Bard who have fallen behind a bit – but rather a book focusing on what it means to be Arcane. Feats and Paragon Paths and an Epic Destiny or two could appear, even a new subclass of Bard or Sorcerer, if they fit. But I want it to feature a large amount of flavour. And I know WotC wants to emphasise flavour over mechanics right now (since there's such an overwhelming number of powers out there), so now would be a good time to make such a book. |
| #3thaxMar 30, 2011 22:13:58 | Along those lines.. I would like to see Errata for the Wizard and Wizard/mage schools that would have hotcasting from the spellbooks instead of having to mem Dailies and Encounters. It is time to take out this sacred cow. No other class has this, even power points went from a Mana Pool to an Augmentation Device. I would like to see future caster classes that are not related to the Wizard. This is under the expetation that there would be new classes offered at some point, but that isn't a given. Failing that, I would like to see some caster Kit Builds that is not using the Wizard as a base class. I would like to see Themes be used in Core instead of being shunted back to just the Dark Sun Campaign. I would like to see an actual reward system that uses encounters and rewards from npc's as the calculas instead of being limited and parceled out by level. On the same tangent, I would like a complete revamp of the magical item pricing and some of the more out of wack item levels turned down a bit. (Portable Hole to be 5th level instead of what it is now) A better way to explain skill use, that is the challange mechanic on the DM side, and have some sort of default skill checks for common situations. (You know, regular stuff that comes from Role Playing) Essentials needs to address Rituals. In addition, there needs to be some feats that takes away the cost of casting these things. (As it is, you have to read close to see that Components have to be used, not just gold coins being tossed in the air to disappear) I expect that only classes that get Ritual Casting as a class feature would be able to use those feats. |
| #4robertread3Mar 30, 2011 22:22:01 | 1. MORE RACES i want more more more more muahahahaha 2. class feats for essentials, they really need some 3. support for all classes, on a weekly basis maybe have a "this weeks class is:_____" article 4. no more named product lines. calling essentials "essentials" was a huge mistake, i am tired of having people debate over it and its old and annoying, just release the classes from now on |
| #5Lady_AurallaMar 30, 2011 22:45:08 | 1. I want the classes/builds that were poorly designed revamped. eg Ossasin, Str Cleric, Str Palidin. |
| #6robertread3Mar 31, 2011 0:44:09 | Str paladin rules, its definatly not poorly designed. but i wouldent mind them making my best character more powered |
| #7Lady_AurallaMar 31, 2011 2:19:58 | Str paladin rules, its definatly not poorly designed. It's better than it started, but one of the main improvements Divine Sanction mainly serves the charisma builds the same as Divine Challenge. The two tools it uses to defend are of minimal use to strength builds, realy would it be that hard to make Divine Challenge and Sanction base off Wisdom thus giving them a similar performance and negate the need for a bandaid feat. What is the answer the butt heads that be do instead of altering the features themselves? They make you use a feat a limited resource to bandaid their poor design. To top it off the charisma powers often easily out perform their strength counterparts. I truly wish creating a band aid feat to cover for poor design of class feature should be a sackable offence. |
| #8thespaceinvaderMar 31, 2011 3:01:49 | If you made it WIS-based, you'd screw Baladins instead ;) What it should be is based on player's choice of STR or CHA. |
| #9Lady_AurallaMar 31, 2011 3:13:29 | Baladins were never a true build, only a creation based on Str/Cha races. The 2 are Str/Wis and Cha/Wis. If they just utilized main stat for attack and damamge, and secondary stat for class features and riders the builds would of been far more balanced. |
| #10Tony_VargasMar 31, 2011 3:24:50 | The volume of material produced for 4e in little over 2 years was extreme. It's really a pretty mature system right now. Most of the recent material - going back to PH 3, really - was gratuitious. There was no need for Wilden or Shardminds, for instance. Still, a few minor things still feel like they're missing: A 'real' Martial Controller, not a half-assed, half-primal striker with delusions of control. The sort of reach-based builds possible in 3.x make a good template for such a thing. A full AEDU take on the E-Hunter could be doable, too. A Warlord-like class or Warlord sub-class making use of tactics, intimidation and 'psychological warfare,' might be a third legitimate concept. A few more basic combat options. OK, maybe not sunder, but something like disarming or tripping might be nice to be able to do. A more functional take on mounts. They're balanced, but you can't do much with 'em. While you're at that, a Lance - a one-handed spear with reach - is that really so wierd? Several centuries of knights, and the Macedonians who conquered the known world for Alexander the Great say 'no.' And there are some things we really don't need more of: Put the breaks on the Wizard. It's a good class. It's a popular class. It's a classic class. But, it doesn't need two new builds in every book, and certainly doesn't need half it's spells radically upgraded. Pandering to pop culture. Yeah, Twilight is huge, but Vampire PCs? Have some self-respect. |
| #11Lady_AurallaMar 31, 2011 3:28:40 | Why make more powers when a large percentage of the currently available ones need revisiting. |
| #12ColdbrandMar 31, 2011 6:55:07 | Wizards to give up their obnoxious nerf strong things, limit choices, reduce complexity mentality and pickup a buff weak things, maintain sophistication, avoid homogenization mentality. |
| #13MarandahirMar 31, 2011 10:43:21 | Baladins were never a true build, only a creation based on Str/Cha races. The 2 are Str/Wis and Cha/Wis. If they just utilized main stat for attack and damamge, and secondary stat for class features and riders the builds would of been far more balanced. What? Ardent Paladin – Strength, Wisdom, Constitution. Avenging Paladin – Strength, Charisma, Wisdom. Protecting Paladin – Charisma, Strength, Wisdom. Virtuous Paladin – Charisma, Wisdom, Strength. Cavalier – Strength, Charisma Blackguard – Strength, Charisma What is this about Str/Cha Paladins not being real? |
| #14TimmehMar 31, 2011 12:44:53 | Baladin: A build that uses Strength attacks and Charisma attacks. It's possible, sure. But I wouldn't say it's necessarily a build that was supposed to happen. The true reason why it is possible is that Wisdom isn't needed to be the only secondary attribute. |
| #15robertread3Mar 31, 2011 13:01:15 | my STR paladin hits like a truck, can heal friends and defend, that is a fine and well designed class |
| #16cool_guyMar 31, 2011 14:55:48 | Me I would like something like a werewolf template. So I could make some werewolf monster like in 3rd edition. I like 4th better. But making werewolfs out of almost any monster is something I liked about 3rd |
| #17SamrinMar 31, 2011 15:22:25 | Me I would like something like a werewolf template. So I could make some werewolf monster like in 3rd edition. You could easily do a werewolf with the druid. Just takes a little re-flavoring. I'm thinking we're gonna see a Werewolf class in Heroes of the Feywild. Kinda like how we're getting Vampire in HoS. |
| #18Omnirahk_half-RahkshiMar 31, 2011 18:59:48 | Well, I do kinda miss metamagic feats from 3.5. Sure, we have widen spell already in a form, but what about heighten spell or chain spell? And although I'm sure some people would hate it - racial magic traditions. At the very least, I loved metabreath spells in Draconimicon. Animate Breath? Yes please. Still, these are the things I think would be cool but don't have my heart set on. What I really want to see is Incarnum. If they're not going to update it to new editions, at least loosen the copyright so that 3rd party sources can build off of it! Other than that, I'm blanking. I know I had other things to say, but I guess I'm just left with the Incarnum rant. |
| #19thaxMar 31, 2011 19:28:55 | Repeat after me. There is no such thing as a Martial Controller. There is no such thing as a Martial Controller. There is no such thing as a Martial Controller. There is no such thing as a Martial Controller. The appearance of a grid is not a good reason to make something that is not needed. |
| #20Obvious_NinjaMar 31, 2011 20:03:43 | Repeat after me. Ok... I know they are doing a gunslinger class for Pathfinder. Why not do one for 4th Ed and Voilà! Martial Controller...;) But actually, I'm quite serious.... |
| #21CyvarisMar 31, 2011 20:48:09 | I want an INT based arcane melee striker! Possibly as a sub-build of the swordmage. |
| #22mrpopstarMar 31, 2011 22:03:30 | I'd like to see a Bard build/subclass/kit/Essential version/whatever that has a meaningful incentive to use an instrument; including a clever mechanic for using one in combat. I'd like to see a "Witch"-type class that nods to fairytales/myths/history by blending Primal and Arcane. That's it... I'm easy to please. ![]() |
| #23Omnirahk_half-RahkshiMar 31, 2011 22:11:29 | You know what? A non-AEDU bard subclass might be worth trying. Bring back bardic music, as it were. Something that really does have incentive to play an instrument, like mrpopstar said. |
| #24MarandahirMar 31, 2011 22:31:43 | I could see Bards having special buffing "songs" that act like stances in that they go into a state, and are used to build a power. |
| #25Tony_VargasApr 01, 2011 4:25:15 | There is no such thing as a Martial Controller. The controller role wasn't formalized in 3.5, but I played a reach-based fighter build for years in a 3.5 campaign, and he was damn close to a controller. Locked down enemies (not just occupied them by getting beat on), debuffed them, made huge area attacks. The appearance of a grid is not a good reason to make something that is not needed. Here is a partial list of PC classes that are less 'needed' in a Medieval Fantasy game than a martial controller. Psion Ardent Battlemind Monk Seeker Invoker Avenger Shaman Warden oh, and all the redundant classes in Essentials'+', too (come to think of it, all the Essentials+ classes, with the possible exception of the Vampire, are redundant) And, of course, Vampire. |
| #26robertread3Apr 01, 2011 9:30:49 | I want an INT based arcane melee striker! Possibly as a sub-build of the swordmage. while this would be awsome in a recent rule of three they said they have no plans to give an additional build to the swordmage.... |
| #27MarandahirApr 01, 2011 10:06:56 | Not quite. They said they didn't feel the Swordmage needed to be updated to the Essentials model of writing. That's quite different from saying they don't plan releasing another Swordmage build. But it does mean that Bladesinger is probably not an Arcane Melee Striker that is a subclass of Swordmage, so… BACK ON TOPIC: I'd like to see a Draconomicon 3, with the rest of our Catastrophic Dragons. We only got three Catastrophic Dragons in MM3: Earthquake, Volcanic, and Blizzard. Typhoon Dragons were mentioned in MM1, so they have to be made. I could also see Tsunami/Tidal/Flood Dragons or something of that sort in there, as well as a Drought Dragon, and maybe even a Meteoric Dragon (that would be pretty sick awesome, if I do say so myself). I'd like some book to somehow feature Linnorms, or Scourge Dragons, so as they're not forgotten. They could even use the Abyssal Genasi article as a guide to what sort of things to include, since it's supposed to be about plagues and afflictions and such. |
| #28OleOneEyeApr 02, 2011 20:51:20 | I want a human Monster Manual. Make it chock full of tons of different archetypes like spearmen, pirates, and cutpurses. Each archetype should have a heroic, paragon, and epic build. That would make me happy. |
| #29Obvious_NinjaApr 03, 2011 13:27:45 | I still want "Oriental Adventures" with a Bushi build for fighters (Samurai should be a theme as well as the ronin); a ninja variant of the Assassin (hey, I want fantasy ninja not historical...) I'd still like a gun fighter/rifleman martial controller. I'd love to see a Draconomicon 3 fro reason mentioned by other posters. and I'd love a DMG 3 for Epic levels with a full Planescape setting... |
| #30Tony_VargasApr 04, 2011 3:45:20 | I want a human Monster Manual. Make it chock full of tons of different archetypes like spearmen, pirates, and cutpurses. Each archetype should have a heroic, paragon, and epic build. That would be a very cool idea. I could be couched as book of NPCs, rather than a 'Monster Manual,' I suppose (though there are already PC-race 'monsters' scattered throughout the MMs). |
| #31robertread3Apr 04, 2011 23:47:50 | i would love to see a bard go back to its jack of all trades mentality. as of now they are leaders sub controllers that use magic without instriments. i would like them to go back to the old school bard where you can mess with it to be whatever role you want, multiclassing through feats is cool, but dosent go far enough i think |
| #32MarandahirApr 05, 2011 0:05:31 | Please No. Bards have always had great flavour. However, they've been painfully aware of being useful, but not quite useful enough their entire history. Nothing to ground them. 4e Bards FINALLY got them right. This is exactly how Bards should be. All three flavours of Bard too are perfect, and allow the Bard to be an instrumentalist, a conductor with a wand-baton, a bow-plucker, or a sword-singer. This is the way the Bard should have been, and it EXCELLS with the AEDU system. I think I'd only see minor revisions if we got a new Essentials-esque Subclass of them. |

| #42Tony_VargasApr 07, 2011 16:04:39 | That's more than could be said for the Paladin, which required an entire splat book released a year and change after 4e's debut to be effective. Ever try playing a Paladin before Divine Power? I saw the pre-DP Paladin in action, yes. The CHA build worked fine, the STR build was sadly lacking in power choices. The mistake with the Paladin was of course, making it split-primary. Split primary hampers a class by dividing it's powers between two builds. With fewer power choices, there's less potential synergy in either build, and they can end up noticeably behind the power curve. The only way to survive that particular mistake is to have virtually all powers work for both primaries (the way the Ranger did - the ranger is still inellegant, but it's effective). While the lesson of split-primary classes has been learned (you don't see any new 'V' classes, do you?), the same basic mistake - splitting power choices between builds, so that neither build gets the full impact of future support for the class - is being repeated with some new Essentials sub-classes. |
| #43SamrinApr 07, 2011 19:53:44 | That's more than could be said for the Paladin, which required an entire splat book released a year and change after 4e's debut to be effective. Ever try playing a Paladin before Divine Power? Apparently, it hasn't been learned. Quite the opposite. It looks worse than before. Looks like the Vampire is split primary, and you're forced to take powers that use both stats. Dex/Cha. So, any non dex/cha race is gonna be screwed. |
| #44Lady_AurallaApr 08, 2011 4:21:57 | What I want is designers that dont thing that less optons is a good thing. I was hanging for the new Vampire and have now learned that some dickhead who should not have the position he does thought that only choosing between 2 utilities at levels 2, 11 & 22 was a good idea! News flash morons, part of the what made this edition great was the ability to choose powers at most levels. Next time you interview a games designer try interviewing chimpanzees first, you will get better work. Edit: OK what I just said may be a little out of line and not the best way to get a point across but I am disgusted that it made it to print without someone rubbing two brain cells together to note that this will upset people. Come on most classes get more choices from first level than this will get in 30 levels. I think your design department needs to take a long hard look at it's design philosophies and maybe drop some dead wood. |
| #45Tony_VargasApr 10, 2011 4:16:47 | This is going to sound odd, but, I'd like to see a variety of products every year. What I mean is, I /don't/ want to see anything like the "Year of the ______" themes that White Wolf did as it drove the World of Darkness setting into the ground. |
| #46Kaviyd3Apr 10, 2011 21:55:15 | I think I should point out something about Vampires that I mentioned in another thread -- while they have fewer character building choices, they actually have more tactical options than most characters once they get into combat. Those extra powers, predefined as they are, do add up to more different things that a Vampire can do at any given level. |
| #47DargurdApr 10, 2011 23:33:35 | Well for me it has to be the following: i) More Eberron stuff, in fact much more Eberron stuff. ii) Kill off anything essentials related and bring back original 4e design concepts. iii) Arcane Power, and Divine Power book 2 along with Psionic Power 2 iv) DMG 3 - Epic Tier stuff |
| #48DMapleApr 11, 2011 5:39:27 | Official Birthright Campaign Book and Creature Book. |
| #49velstrideApr 11, 2011 8:57:35 | I'd love to see a few things really. |
| #50Obvious_NinjaApr 11, 2011 13:04:25 | Official Birthright Campaign Book and Creature Book. hehe..Nice!!! ![]() |
| #51lokiareApr 11, 2011 13:20:38 | what they need to do is make striker everyones secondary role, and get rid of striker primary. then go with pick a power during play, rather than vancian spellcasting, something like final fantasy I (the original not the remake), or like 3.5 sorcerer. hotcasting. let them pick powers, but if they want simple they can pick the same ones over and over. heck let them pick the same at-wills if they want, just give them bonus damage or attack... that way we can do slayer and pre-e fighter from the same class... |
| #52thaxApr 11, 2011 20:13:00 | You say you want the third edtion Druid? Really? |
| #53Tony_VargasApr 11, 2011 21:32:32 | I think I should point out something about Vampires that I mentioned in another thread -- while they have fewer character building choices, they actually have more tactical options than most characters once they get into combat. I know it gets a third at-will... but so does the Wizard(Mage) and any pre-E human. |
| #54MithrusApr 12, 2011 9:51:13 | As for bards, I'd think an implement (instrument) focused e-class might be very cool. I like the suggestion of using stances for the various song effects, although it does remind me of the early days of Everquest when bards "twisted" their songs to get multipled effects. Arg my wrist hurts from the memory... In addition, I'd like to see an instrument expertise feat added (granted, instruments aren't an implement, but they should be). The rider could be a small bonus to powers that grant saves, or enhancing the bardic virtue effect (eg: +1/2/3 range). For example, have stringed instruments increase healing, percussion increase forced movement, woodwinds increase bonus to saves, and brass give bonus to damage. Woe to the enemy should the epic bard get his/her hands on a Vorpal Accordian... |
| #55ReloApr 13, 2011 8:58:05 | 1. Get rid of everything new that came specific from essentials (except the extra fluff, as long it doesn't hinder the crunch like mixed power sources) Get the old 4e back. I know essentials was a enter point for new players and players from older editions but make essentials (and everything from it) at least a by product of 4e, in form of variant classes so players could build towards the original 4e Classes. (and essentials where suppose to be only 10 products, right?) 2. Polls on future products with small samples, and reasons why it is needed (so things like essentials would become less likely to become the main focus, yet increases product sales. Because people are more likely to buy and wait for products that they feel needed then product could be great but could be also be bad). And maybe some posting under it to get a deeper answers about it, or suggestions. 3. PHB 4: Shadow or Elemental classes 4. Possibly a form of suggestion board with a like/dislike system (one side popular based on date and likes, one with new suggestions and a search function when posting (to stop double posts)) 5. DMG 3: epic tier 6. Draconicom 3: catastrophic dragons (3 seems to me like not allot, in monster manual 3) 7. more planar books, the coming planar box sets seem more like a planar aventure combined with an site book than something planer close to planar books quality. 8. campaign supplement books 9. adventures with all maps and creature tokens (thats something that would be great in a box set, unlike most things) 10. maybe a DM strategy book (the player strategy was great for my players and me, things like common mistakes and interesting monster role encounter buildup stuff like that could be in it.) (11). a new campaign setting or adventure, not one based on older ones. If thats not possible or to hard recycle old ones more. |
| #56Kaviyd3Apr 13, 2011 12:49:06 | I think I should point out something about Vampires that I mentioned in another thread -- while they have fewer character building choices, they actually have more tactical options than most characters once they get into combat. Those extra powers, predefined as they are, do add up to more different things that a Vampire can do at any given level. They get a total of 3 at-wills, plus a few extra utility powers. Some of those supposed utility powers border on being attack powers, as they are extra things that a Vampire can do when he attacks. |
| #57LordofKhyberApr 13, 2011 14:06:50 | -No more essentials. And no I don't mean with the serial number filed off like Heroes of Shadowfell. Quit with this garbage format already. The only people who like it are a vocal minority. Go back to what makes 4E great. You won't draw back the 3.X/Pathfinder crowd by continuing with Essentials when there is a much better alternative (Pathfinder) out there. Play with the crowd you have please - us 4E fans. -More support for aquatic campaigns. The options for someone wanting to run a pirate campaign or something similar are really, really limited if they want to use 4E. -Another primal leader please. The shaman is cool and all but I want to be a leader that doesn't have to go to the trouble of using a garbage format (Druid) or the paperwork involved with the spirit companion. -Can we have more options for the warlock please? It's a pretty weak arcane striker. We have a warlock, a bard, and a barbarian on our team and so far the bard is out competing the Warlock in controller stuff and the Barbarian is outdamaging the warlock many times over. His player is started to feel cheated. More Pewpew and less making my opponents cry blood please. -Maybe a wuxia type campaign setting? I know a lot of people would pick up on this! -Same goes for a "let's play a campaign where the PC's are evil!" type setting. It'd be a fun diversion. -Let's revisit Eberron and Dark Sun, okay? I know both were pirated heavily but that's not reason to punish people who actually bought the books! |

| #59SamrinApr 13, 2011 19:04:20 | - The only people who like it are a vocal minority. . Your proof is where? I'm not a huge essentials fan myself (though the blackguard looks awesome), but you have absolutely no way to back this statement up. |

Of course, if there's a diversity among the Vampire powers that could also help. The at-wills seem quite diverse (each targetting a different non-AC defense, mix of melee & ranged, pulling & pushing...). |
| #62MarandahirApr 14, 2011 18:39:01 | Please, let's stay on topic of what we want, rather than what we don't want. This is supposed to be a positive thread, not a negative one. I was thinking more about what I'd like, and I'd like to see some new types of pacts for warlocks. Right now, we've got Infernal, Fey, Star, Gloom, Dark, Vestige, and Sorcerer-king Pacts. I'd like to see a Marut Pact, a Genie Pact (making wishes to Efreet or Djinn), an Abyssal Pact (which would double as a functional understanding of Demon cultists), and a Dragon Pact (which would play out probably quite differently than Dragon Magic of the Sorcerer). I'd also like to see the Transmutation School of magic finally make it's appearance. Finally, I'd like to see a Heroes of Chaos or some such book that provides more Elemental options. |
| #63SamrinApr 14, 2011 20:20:09 | I'd like to see DDI get more consistent with content and updates. I'm fine with a few less pages in Dragon or whatever, but the quality of that content needs to be amped up if they want to give less of it. Oh, and one more thing spoiler PC KOBOLDS! |

| #65rampantApr 15, 2011 0:51:46 | 1. Better racial design from wizards. The heroes of shadow races are looking pretty sloppy. 2. More themes. 3. PC Kobolds (this would be first, but I don't want Wizards screwing them up like it did the minotaur or the gnoll) 4. More themes |
| #66thaxApr 15, 2011 16:17:14 | Fix the Wizard, have on the fly casting of the Daily (and Mage Encounters) instead of being limited to the choices made at night. This can be done, but I fear it won't be until the next edition of the game. |
| #67Tony_VargasApr 15, 2011 18:21:23 | Fix the Wizard, have on the fly casting of the Daily (and Mage Encounters) instead of being limited to the choices made at night. The spellbook is a /bonus/, added flexibility over and above what other classes get. (And, the last vestige of 'Vancian magic.') It hardly needs to be improved - eliminated, perhaps. |
| #68thaxApr 15, 2011 21:55:57 | ??? So what does Rituals have to do with what the Wizard does with his powers? No, my point is that the Wizard is the only class in the whole edition that still does this, even if it is limited to Dailies for the Base Class. Hot Casting (Like the Sorcerer did in 3rd edition) should have been emblimented, just as the Cleric has the one casting of two to three of his "class feature" spells. It is just as confusing as to why they kept this for the Wizard just as it was when the Wizard and the Sorcerer was in the PHB for 3rd edition. It was the same class with slightly different mechanics. |
| #69rampantApr 15, 2011 23:57:58 | It's simple some people liked that aspect of the wizard. Being able to change your spells is pretty cool, but allowing the wiz to just on the fly decide which of his 2-3 options for a given power slot would be OP. So the wiz gets to play games with his power selection during break time, and everyone else gets glare at him jealously. Except the sorcerer who just nukes everything. |
| #70ceiling90Apr 16, 2011 11:16:10 | I'd like more new classes - serious departures from either trying to shoehorn things in the archetypes of older classes, even if they are essential style. We don't need more Mage Schools...Though I wouldn't mind at all a sub-class some of the under supported or even lacking o4e classes (looks at Seeker, Runepriest, and again at Ossassin). Secondly, since they will make more essentials style classes (not that I mind it, I like the ease of design and more focused play decisions) they need to have each of those have at least 3 distinct "builds"; also add in feature substitution on mandatory powers from race, theme, or whatever. Finally put together a working multi-class system for Essentials Design Paradigm; or at least a passable one. This current "almost modularity" is just not cutting the mustard. More monstrous races; some of us like to play in what most would consider a bizarro world where goblinoids and orcs (or whatever looked suitably savage) are the civilized races and the assumed civilized races are evil or completely barbaric. While I don't like Kobolds, I'll agree to your right to play one to the fullest. |

Hot Casting (Like the Sorcerer did in 3rd edition) should have been emblimented, just as the Cleric has the one casting of two to three of his "class feature" spells. Channel Divininty is a choice of a very weak encounter power or a very situational encounter power - adding another choice costs a /feat/. That's comparable to the Wizard's 'Tome of Readiness.' What you're suggesting, with wizards casting all their dailies & utilities spontaneously, and mages doing their encounters that way, as well, while still have two choices of each in their spellbook - and a third of each and every level, with a single feat, is just wildly overpowered compared to Channel Divinity. I get that the wiz is the only class that's still a little bit vancian, and that that's not a great thing. I just think the obvious solution is to have it work like everyone else, rather than get some major upgrade in flexibility. |
| #72thaxApr 17, 2011 15:00:09 | We differ in oppinion, but agree that the Wizard needs changed. I think that hot casting would be alright, giving the wizard his nich w/out having the fire and forget sacred cow. Rituils that would be less to cast,or just having to have a reusable componant, would be another fix exclusive to the wizard if hot casting is to wait for the next edition |

Support for classes other than the "core four" and their PH1 buddies! |
| #74celticmuttApr 17, 2011 18:37:15 | Considering that at the very minimum we're still supposed to get the Transmuter school ... yeah don't hold your breath on Wizard support slowing down. |

If they stopped doing this they couldn't claim they are supporting pre-E in any real way... |
