| #1Cyber-DaveApr 08, 2009 17:37:43 | Hey there. There is currently a poll going on in the d20 Modern forums to let the developers know whether the community of d20 Modern fans would prefer a d20 Modern based off of 4e rules, Saga rules, or a mix of both. However, as a lot of people who like 4e or a mix of Saga and 4e probably don't frequent the d20 Modern forums (at least anymore) I thought I would post a link to the poll for everyone's benefit: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1175729. |
| #2vebrandssonApr 08, 2009 17:46:49 | Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I was considering homebrewing a 4e d20 game but if WotC will do it for me all the better :P |

| #4Cyber-DaveApr 08, 2009 19:54:01 | If they are made by the community, yes. In this case, the poll is made by the Forum Community Lead. I'm sure he has the developers permission to run the poll. |

| #6GhostStepperApr 10, 2009 17:44:18 | I must say that up until i actually played saga edition, i thought it was pretty awsome and assumed that i would prefer it as the system of choice for new edition of modern. As it stands, id like to see what they can do to adapt 4E to modern instead, though i will probably just play Amathyst since i doubt we will see "4E modern" anytime soon. |
| #7TheLoneClericApr 11, 2009 10:58:04 | Saga with a few 4E tropes would be the right mix really. |
| #8superdeadsmurfApr 11, 2009 11:51:56 | Saga with a few 4E tropes would be the right mix really. I would like to see the opposite, 4E with some saga stuff. Like the removal of AC. Ac isn't too good for modern play really, the condition track is also a good idea; but I like the power/feat/ability score progressions from 4E better. Possibly removing Epic play, and daily powers. I expect we'll see 4 basic classes - striker, leader, controller and defender, and then you choose themed powers and abilities based on power sources that make sense for the character. |
| #9GhostStepperApr 11, 2009 13:21:05 | I would like to see the opposite, 4E with some saga stuff. This. I've grown to really like the power system much more than the "get one talent that may or may not let you do anything cool every other level" system of saga. One huge alteration to both the saga and 4E set-up that i would like to see for 4E modern is a genuine balance between combat and out of combat abilities. I dont want the 4E modern version of fighters that only get a handful skills that are useful outside of combat while the wizard gets all kinds of rituals. I dont want the fast/strong hero with good defenses and AB owning combats while the dedicated hero sits out and waits for a social encounter. I dont want a jedi sacrificing his combat capacity because he spent feats/talents on out combat skills. I want a real balance between in and out of combat abilities: something saga nor 4e really gets right. |
| #10Nivek_LoneshadowApr 11, 2009 17:28:53 | Looks like I missed the poll. Still I'm glad to see that people are still trying to get an updated version of Modern. I agree with GhostStepper that out of combat stuff should be important as well as combat. 4e dropped way way too much of the RP stuff. |
| #11TheLoneClericApr 11, 2009 17:47:12 | Ah. Well some mix there in would be nice. |
| #12bob_loblawApr 13, 2009 9:10:16 | I was at Norwescon over the weekend and at one of the 4E panel someone asked if 4E could be adapted to d20 Modern. The panelists got very excited especially Andy Collins. While they didn't mention that something was in the works, it certainly looked like they had something in mind. I didn't attend the panel where they discussed upcoming projects so take this as the rumor it is. |
| #13downphoenixApr 13, 2009 9:15:08 | What's stopping WotC from making what I'll refer to as 4.M, or 4th Edition Modern? Largely, I think that the tier system, power system and general combat of 4th Edition is all worth keeping. Where I would of course like to see some Modern changes would be having to do with things like hacking, vehicles and all things modern not covered by the fantasy rules. Modern is a setting that appeals to a lot of people who wouldn't necessarily want to fuss about in a fantasy PnP game, and one of 4E's biggest strengths is greatly appealing to those very same people with its friendly approach to PnP RPGing. "What, you mean I can use Shotguns, Uzis and Bazookas if I want?" "Sure!" "What about a sword-wielding, grenade tossing Dwarf hacker with a propensity for Cuban cigars and cheap beer?" "Why not?" "I'm in." This is pretty much verbatim what one of my newly converted 4E friends said when I originally brought up the old Modern system. It really needs to be done, and I'm holding out hope that we hear about it this year. |
| #14Cyber-DaveApr 14, 2009 4:58:52 | P.S. I made another post about this, but the poll this thread was about is closed. A new poll, however, with more options and choices available, has been put up. The new poll can be found at this link: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1175729. I have edited my OP to show this link as well. |
