| #2sigil_beguilerDec 06, 2008 3:25:57 | I would not be at all surprised to see such things be used in the yearly DMGs. What better place to suggest optional rules then the DMG? |
| #3Luis_CarlosDec 06, 2008 9:09:50 | I liked (of 3rd Ed UA) the optional races and classes, the parangon class.. the lines of blood (the best ones would be the racial class idea from Complete Psionic), the system of taint and madness (perfect for a horror campaing), the honor system and the flaws (or anti-feats). |
| #4inkblotDec 06, 2008 12:47:12 | If a 4e Unearthed Arcana were announced, I'd end the game I'm running now so I could start a new one when UA came out. I love 4th Edition, but it's not perfect. It can't be perfect since everybody has different tastes. A new Unearthed Arcana would give use the tools we need to customize the game so that it's perfect for each of us. Or as close as possible. I'm not even sure what kind of variant rules I'd use. Power points, maybe. |

Revisioned rules for wealth where characters are not limited/hamstrung, Alternate crafting rules that is separate from skills, Item crafting rules that would defer some of the cost with the items gotten and have Residium be more effective than a quarter cost, and have NPC classes for the DM to work with. UA might be a bridge product to do that with. |

We already have the tools. Nothing says we cannot modify, add, or delete as we see fit (house rules). I assume you mean "official" tools, but, invariably, some people will be happy with some of them, but most people will wish other rules and variations were included. If we look back at the original Unearthed Arcana here, we see that the first printing was done 7 years after the first printing of the PH. I used this book quite a bit; this version even had rules for adding a new stat: Comeliness! I enjoyed the rules in the 3.5 UA, but, to be honest, I am not sure I agreed with when it was released (2004), and I think it would be entirely inappropriate and premature to release a 4E UA in the foreseeable future. If one were to be released, and that is assuming they will limit it to one (we might have 4 of them as well), I would say the appropriate time would be after all power sources were released, so, after PH4, and even then, I would think that to compile a truly cohesive and quality product they would wait for feedback (playtest?) data regarding how all the core material works together and what people are either doing IRL or what they want to do. Perhaps some official events would be a good place to test some of this stuff, in addition to using DDI and Dungeon for some of it. |

| #8Pyrate_JibDec 08, 2008 0:04:14 | Some optional rules about alignment system could be possible for a future UA. Me too! I miss the old 9 alignment system and will 'house rule' it back in when I run a 4E game. I think this type of book would sell since it would offer variant rules that would not be used in published modules or RPGA play. It could work back in a few favorite rules from 3E and perhaps introduce a few new rules that you could house rule into your home campaigns. For many it might offer new ideas for house rules that you never thought of but work for your style of D&D. For me I'd love to see the return of the old alignment system, rules for Sunder and Disarm, the addition of a few skills, and some of the old weapons and equipment from 2E & 3E. Just my opinion... |
| #9Pyrate_JibDec 11, 2008 22:50:01 | And all rules in the Unearthed Arcana would be optional. Nothing cannon for those who like the game pure. |
