How about adding a section for when their promised Insider goodies, like the Virtual Gaming Table or Dungeon builder will be available?

This has been something I considered putting in last year's Schedule, but the reality is that these digital programs/services are very much in limbo with a very amorphous schedule, and there are those who suggest that, due to the economy and the recent layoffs at WotC, these programs may never appear.

So, for the time being, I will stick to printed/produced material.

For the adventure modules, I think it would look more slick (and be more in line with the official titles) if you started each line with the "adventure code", wherever possible. For example, the last entry right now would read "E3: Prince of Undeath". Additionally, the word "Adventure" on most of those entries is a bit redundant.

"Revenge of the Giants" is obviously a special case, because we don't know its "code", if it even will have one. It doesn't need it anyway; it is different from the other module products, it's okay if the entry looks a little different too. Just call it "Revenge of the Giants; Boxed 'Super Adventure'".

Good call.

Regardless of opinion of D&DI Tools, it would be setting yourself up for a major headache if you were trying to state the release date for products whose best release estimate is usually, "As soon as it's ready."

Indeed. I used this method originally because it was how it was listed on Amazon (right or wrong) and stuck to it. Besides, the two new modules for Eberron and the Megadventure Giants one have no such moniker. I might take a "wait and see" for how they will progress and label accordingly.

Either way, your suggestion is noted and appreciated.

Well, FWIW, the Forgotten Realms adventure had the code "FR1". It's possible that the analogous Eberron adventure (Seeker of the Ashen Crown) will have a similar tag.

It is possible, however "E1" is obviously taken, and I had guessed at it being "EB1" but now that it's listed, there is no evidence for this. If it changes for them, I will update the listing.

Alright bays and girls, I am back.

As promised I have implemented a minis section, and what did I find, but images on Amazon of the packaging which gives a real insight into the thinking here.

The PH:Heroes series look to be 3 non-random figures per pack for about $11 ($9 actual) and then they will be supported by the MM: DD and MM: DL series of random monster boosters; retail $15 ($10 actual).

Aside from that, everything is cruising along normally. Anyone have any thoughts?

Cool artwork! I'm excited now.

Regarding Revenge of the Giants: it appears to have the number "P2" in the top left corner, perhaps as its "series number" (despite it not being part of a series, AFAIK). Interestingly, it also appears to be for levels 14-17, which is the same level range for "The Demon Queen's Enclave", which is also known as P2.

I think the module designations will start becoming a more standardized notation such as [setting][tier][level range] or some such thing.

First off, that's all I was going to say on the matter, and this will be my last post on that clarification or continuation of that thought.

Secondly, it is not political to say someone is charismatic (and I will not argue that point with any trolls)

Stumbled across this in Amazon. This doesn't appear to be an official WotC product:
Advanced Player's Guide

It seems to be available now. From the product description:

"Product Description
Advanced Player's Guide is a must-have supplement for 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons players and GMs alike! Written by the esteemed Ari Marmell, one of the most experienced 4E designers, the book contains 3 new races, 5 new classes, 15 new paragon paths, 17 new feats, 7 new rituals, and optional rules concerning wounds."

Has anyone heard of this? Does anyone have this?

Oh, yeah. That was one of the first, and most popular 3rd party 4e products. The "new" classes are takes on the 3e classes that were "left out" (Druid, Bard, Monk, Barbarian). I'm kind of surprised you haven't heard of it. It's been talked about a lot.

The author, Ari Marmell, posts on various RPG-related forums as "Mouseferatu".

As you can see, it is fairly pleasing, but you can click on either the image or the name to go to the link, but it leaves the underline from the link. Obviously the ones without images would need to be treated in a way where they would not be lost. Thoughts?

Sorry, Enigma; I didn't mean to imply anything by what I said. All I meant was that I have seen moderator action against threads that just mention a politician or religious figure's name, because of the often strong feelings people have towards them, coupled with the fact that it's almost always off-topic.

No sore feelings, Enigma?

I tried it with that, but it was a pain, didn't give the info right away (which, let's face it, is why people come to this thread) and wasn't graphically pleasing.

This isn't my favorite either, but works the best in the confines of the forum.

I find I do get much more excited at the prospect and volume of what is in the pipeline when I look at it this way! (It must be my inner kid who is at Toys-R-Us but only has $5 from his allowance to spend)

E - it looks great! A couple things, however:

1) The E3 description lines up with Against the Giants. I think we can all see the link is right above it, but it looks like you went through great pains to be consistent, so I wanted to let you know that seemed out of place.

2) E2 Actually has a pic on the WotC Web site here, and in case you want it RIGHT NOW, it is below.

I wouldn't have expected them to announce anything by now, as they mentioned they would announce each year's campaign setting at the previous year's GenCon Indy. So, we'll hear about it in six and a half months' time.

Yeah, WotC fired him months ago, or so I heard. I understand that it had less to do with the videos and more to do with the (frankly, terrible) management of the forums, which was also his responsibility. Incidentally, his extremely capable replacement, Solice, (who didn't make any videos AFAIK), was also laid-off a couple months later.

It seems that for the time being, they are releasing one adventure per setting. Perhaps this will change - but I have heard rumblings that setting-specific support books are not as high "grossers" than untyped books that can be woven into settings.

That being said, I think they will start to get diminishing returns after PHB4 in terms of useful classes (it will be hard enough to not have Elemental, Shadow, Ki, and Psionic not step on the toes of Divine, Arcane, Martial and Primal classes). So they may revisit the settings for future splatbooks and adventures.

Although who knows - Maybe 2011 will have FR and Eberron adventures instead of core.

Personally, I'd be happier if they released more "core" adventures, and then included extensive details (either directly in the product or on DDI) about how to incorporate that adventure into specific settings. This is similar to what they've done with adventures during 3.5E, but I want even more detail than those tie-in blurbs offered. Additionally, I'd like adventure paths to retain their "path-iness" when reflavoured for a particular setting, too.

They have done this already, to a certain extent, through Dragon/Dungeon.

And it's been said (though can't recall where exactly - in a podcast perhaps?) that in the future there will be more setting specific stuff in the mags. IIRC there's going to be either an FR or Eberron adventure in each issue of Dungeon.

Ofc I assume this will only hold true until the next setting is released, then they'll have to start sharing time...

So here is a question:

So once they get to PHB 4 and (theoretically) have the power sources complete (Arcane, Divine, Elemental, Ki, Martial, Primal, Psionic and Shadow), where do you think the focus will turn to next?

2nd and 3rd generation Power books?
Additional Power sources? What else is there?
Additional PhB books filling in gaps (eg Martial Controller)
New roles?
Race books?
In depth Settings books?

What do you think?

X Power 2, 3, 4...

PHBs with increasingly more contrived classes and races.

A 4.5 edition that fixes the "2 main stat" classes (most notably the Paladin).

All leading up to... 5th edition in 2012.

Has anyone heard of this? Does anyone have this?

I love this book. Crafting is introduced very organically to the system. Lingering would effects are as well. It won't be easy to top the monk variant (martial artist). This supplement is quality content.

Written by a good author, who is responsible for lots of official products. Unfortunately, this isn't an official product, so it's beyond the scope of this thread. If we started expecting Enigma to list every third party product here, he'll have a stroke.

I wonder if this includes the Abyss? There's certainly enough in the Abyss to merit its own book, although whether or not that book would suck with repetitiveness would remain to be seen. (Perhaps if a book about the Abyss doubled as the demon-equivalent of "Open Grave" or "Draconomicon"...)

I think if it delved into the society and type of people within each layer of the Nine Hells (and strove to give each layer its own feel) there wouldn't be any repetitiveness.

The Nine Hells are an Astral Dominion filled with devils, John. The Abyss is a region of the Elemental Chaos filled with demons. :P

I am happy as well. WotC should be too . . .I can see quite a bit of my bucks going into at least one release a month from March through the end of the year.

Especially in a recession, dollar-for-dollar D&D is pretty cost effective for entertainment per buck

New artwork from the Eberron Adventure; Secrets of the Ashen Crown. We now know its technically an "H2" for 2-4th level (although I though H2 would be 4-6, but whatever):

My personal hypothesis is that the Eberron Campaign Setting will have a mini-adventure to get you from 1-2 and Ashen Crown will continue it.

As far as PHB3, this is the first "official" mention of it. The consensus is that PHB's will be released around March each year - at least through PHB4, but that is based mostly on wild guesses, and that PHB1 and 2 are being released about that time for 2008/2009.

What we do know with that piece of info is that Ki characters will be included in PHB3. My guess is that, since the Monk is really the last 3.5 Core Class to be released, that Ki will be the dominant power source in the book with 4 Ki characters, each with an asian flare. My personal guess is Monk (striker/controller), Ninja (Striker), Samurai (Defender) and Shogun (Leader) or something to that effect. Then the minor 2 power sources will be derived from the remaining 3 power sources (elemental, psionic, and shadow) with 2 each. I have a feeling that it will be 2 elemental and 2 shadow. My reasoning for this is that the hook for PHB3 will be the Monk - the last of the 3.X characters and that the hook for PHB4 will be psionics, the other thing everyone is clamoring for.

I'm not at all sure the "H2" will be there when it's published, it's probably a placeholder graphic. The FR adventure has no such code at all.

(Oh and Enigma: It's Seekers, not Secrets. ;))

As for the Monk... playtest? Where did you get that? All we have confirmation of is that the Monk will be in the PH 3. I haven't seen any word about a playtest yet.

I don't know why you're so surprised about the PH3 either, it's well known there's going to be one each year. So the answer to when it's released is: sometime in 2010. I would guess pretty early in the year, but we have no way of knowing yet.

And I maintain that this is an unreasonable expectation.

A 4/2/2 split will mean only 1 Power book in 2010 and 3 in 2011.

PH1 had to be split between 3 sources to get all the most iconic classes in, and PH2 had to be the same way to clean up the mess, but there's no reason for the designers to keep on making things difficult for themselves. ;)

But I know it's useless to argue this point on this forum. Too many fanbois have their hearts set on all their favorite classes being in PH3.

News Flash!
Hey, I wrote this whole column and then realized it didn’t contain any real Insider information. Typical, right? Well, I’m going to end my run on this column with a couple of sneak peeks of upcoming Dragon Magazine content.

In March, look for the assassin! In the tradition of the gladiator article we'll feature feats, backgrounds, and paragon paths devoted to the fine art of the assassin.

In April, we provide a bag of holding full of new familiars for arcane characters.

In May, come aboard to help playtest a class from Player’s Handbook 3… the monk!

More details on these and other surprises soon.

Whew! Now I feel better…

Yes indeed. Which is why I put the caveat "my opinion" before everything. There are lots of "Whats next" "what does Ki mean to you?" "Shadow Power Characters and the Women Who Love Them" etc threads out there.

As far as what is in each book, I am not sure exactly what they will do in terms of how many power sources in each book. It seems like it would be easier to do 2 sources per book, but the spreading out of 2 sources among 2 books seems like nice dove-tailing and incentivizes people to purchase the next book to complete the "set." Also PHB1&2 have that "Arcane, Divine and Martial Heroes" tagline. There is no evidence that they would change from 3 power sources that have already been established in the current format.

Prediction for 5th edition: gencon 2017 (50th gen con...5e makes a good sales pitch)

I actually LOVE 4e so much I could honestly wait 8 yrs for 5.0 ed! I'm sure they will do it, it's just that the way i see it that this should just simply be the last version of DnD and just come up with small updates and new ways to play, new adventures, new realms and new classes. Also too should incorporate 4e Dragonlance, Dark Sun, and expand on Spell Jemming more. 4e, in my opinion, was so wonderfully done!

Now, don't get me it's not w/o its lil' quirks. And long time gamers can find more nit-picky things wrong with it than I ever could, though I do date back to 1e; it's just that I love the overall feel and play to it.

IIRC, there's no Swordmage cards currently on the way in any other releases. Because of this, I can only assume that one of those two Swordmage decks will cover all the material from FRPG, while the other will be from Arcane Power. Remember, by the time the Arcane Power cards get here, all the other Martial and Arcane classes will already have two decks available as well. (Primal and Divine classes will each only have one deck at that point, though.)

Definitely, I think Swordmages will get a new build in Arcane Power, but I don't necessarily think this means they'll be getting any more than the other classes.

Unless I'm missing a source, the Dragon Annual was just announced about a month ago(D&DXP if I recall correctly). It isn't suprising that little info about it has been released(incidently I just read the Amazon listing and I'm losing another 20 dollars come September). There is a podcast which recorded the initial announcement, along with announcements for a couple of other products, on Critical Hits.

......The Dungeon Annual however seems to be nonexistent. I don't believe it has appeared in a retailer catalogue, and it was not mentioned in the D&DXP 2009 product seminar thing as I recall. All products through January were listed there, and the Dungeon Annual did not make it. I'm not sure why Amazon has it listed, but they don't even have a description for it. I would not count on seeing this, at least not this year.

Thanks for the well-wishes. We aren't getting married till July 2010, so that my fiance has an entire year after getting her masters to plan, although we already have a location - on the beach - no tuxes allowed!

Dungeon and Dragon Annual has been on this thread alone since last year, and I have links to the Amazon pages above. That does not guarantee that they will be produced, but it does mean it has been in the works for a while.

Eh when did you get any info about the Dragon Annual? The first I heard, as far as official word goes, was at DDXP. Was the Amazon page up before then?

And yes, I know that Amazon has had Dungeon Annual listed for a while.....however Wizards has never yet to list it in any source. I really doubt that it is going to be an actual product, at least come May.

Yeah, Dungeon annual listed first, then the WotC listed the Dragon Annual and not the Dungeon Annual. I believe it was up prior to DDXP (at least I think so), but regardless, I think they are trying to gauge the market for hard copies of the online content. If there is a market they will probably publish both from here on out. If there isn't a cost-effective response by the community, they will leave them as online only.

yes, books were DoA, so they have to get a new order fo them.

Apparently, the bulk of the cardboard used for the covers was damaged. I preordered from B&N, and it got delayed by a week from the Feb release date. However, it did arrive yesterday via UPS. I would assume that the bulk of the pre-orders out there will experience some sort of delay.

Added Primal Power photo to listing, also added WotC photo for Monster Manual: Dangerous Delves Mini.

Updated all bordered Amazon photos possible to cleaner, boarderless WotC photos for a better look.

ALSO- Upon reading the new listing for the MM:DD minis it looks like they will be 1 visible non-random mini and 4 random minis per booster pack. I don't know weather this will mean you never get certain packs or if there will be more for everyone. 5 per booster is a bit of a pill to swollow compared to 8.

You did hear about it already, although not with any kind of confirmation. What happened was, at one of the Cons earlier this year (probably DDXP), at the product seminar where they discussed Plane Below, someone asked about future "environment" supplements, especially about the Underdark. One of the devs replied with an emphatic, "Yes!", and made some comment which left seminar-goers with the distinct impression that such a supplement was already being worked upon. The presumed title of such a speculated project was "Underdark".

Does that story sound familiar, R? I'm pretty certain that I've got it correct, but if you recall it differently, feel free to say something. You and I probably read it in the same place, anyway.

Standardized the links of the items that are now appearing on Amazon.

Did a scouring search. No new products announced. Curious when the 2010 ball will drop for new products, as we have release dates through December 2009. The only item we know for sure is the announced MP2. Then there is our assumptions about PHBIII, MMIII, and DMGIII.

Since there is no Artificer material in Arcane Power, I would assume we will see an AP2 as well, Not to mention Divine Power 2 and Primal Power 2 in there somewhere, along with whatever the primary power source is for PHBIII.

Here is an early estimation of what 2010 will look like, based on nothing other than the 2008/2009 release schedule and my own guesses. REPEAT: This is not even unofficial, just a guess:

2010
January: New Monster Class Setting Book (a 'la Open Grave, etc)
February: Martial Power 2
March: Player's Handbook 3
April: Arcane Power 2
May: Monster Manual 3
June: New Campaign Setting (Dark Sun, Dragonlance, etc)
July: Divine Power 2, New Campaign Setting Player's Guide
August: Adventurer's Vault 3, Primal Power 2 (perhaps)
September: Dungeon Master's Guide 3
October: Ki Power (or Shadow Power, Elemental Power, Psionic Power)
November: Monster Class Setting Book (a'la Draconomicon, etc), Primal Power 2 (perhaps, or swap with Ki Power)
December: Planar Book (Astral Sea, Shadowfell, Feywild, etc)

So that is a best guess based on their release schedule so far, and it all makes sense to me. Also, I will bet a shiny nickel that Ki Power is the next Power source.

I wouldn't expect a 4.5 for some time, there is a lot of milk left in this cow, and they would be foolish to mess with it.

The only caveat I have for the above schedule estimate is a line in the 3/2 Ampersand where he says that they are working on the campaign setting for "early next year". So those books may move up to Q1 or straddle the Q1/Q2 border

nah, they'll defiantly start to pick up on the sacred cow adventures (Tomb of horrors, Against the giants, etc) and other super adventures. Then I imagine we'll see a random distribution of advs, maybe even a few extra CS specific advs.

I actually think this depends on how you look at it. The "new and improved" D&D experience is one that can be easier on DMs so it isn't as daunting for games to get moving, therefore growing interest in D&D and therefore selling more D&D books.

I think what comes out (in terms of adventures) will be very dependant on what is selling in this new 4e model.

If Dungeon Delve does well, I can guarantee that we will be seeing future Delve-esque books highlighting new releases such as new monster manuals and dungeon tiles. (most likely 1 a year or every other year)

If campaign settings do well, we will see a clamor for more adventures and supplements dealing with X campaign setting. (potentially multiple per year)

If Revenge of the Giants does well, we will probably see new super adventures (at least 1 a year)

At the very least we will see more adventures until we reach at least 3 per tier (a la 3 core H1s, 3 core H2s, 3 core H3s) to promote the ease in which games can be played. (This could be multiples per year, but I doubt you will see an entire set [H1-E3] in a single year)

I am conflicted here. Wizards may have made a mistake, and i am waiting to see how it shakes out. Every online retailer I can find lists the release on the 21st. Once I see some confirmation that the 14th is, in fact, the street date, I will make the adjustment.

Also, I spoke with my local game shop, Arcane Power is still on his delivery schedule for April 21st, but he did say he has had books magically show up early in the past, so he wasn't putting it beyond possibility that it would drop the 14th.

Apparently, if you enter the proper name for the dragon annual (Dragon Annual: Volume 1) you get the right link (instead of 2009). So I updated the link and the pic with a nicer amazon one.

Looks like they also finally got the artwork for Prince of Undeath as well.

Well, from the look of the cover of the E3 adventure, along with the description on Amazon, the rumored confrontation with Orcus can be made official.......now, back to the debate over the Icon Orcus figure that was dumped in 2007, lol. Time for a second look WOTC?

Sounds like they are reverting back to the 2E paperback splat books, one for each race, once for each class, one for each spell, lol.

I actually liked the complete handbook of... series, although I don't think they will be doing classes this time around, the power source books fill that bill. I can see further down the road a prayers for the faithful or manual of exploits collecting the powers for a source into one place.

32 pages? That's practically a brochure. I wonder if it won't be a kind of "demo product", or a handful of prewritten Dragonborn characters and backgrounds.

(PS: I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "rakes"...)

Well, from the look of the cover of the E3 adventure, along with the description on Amazon, the rumored confrontation with Orcus can be made official.......now, back to the debate over the Icon Orcus figure that was dumped in 2007, lol. Time for a second look WOTC?

lol It was pretty obvious, considering almost all of the other adventures had to do with his cult, and the fact that his title is "The Prince of Undeath".

As for the Gargantuan Orcus Icon, it was probably intended to supplement this adventure path, which was itself probably planned well in advance of the release of 4E. (Orcus was on display at the same GenCon at which 4E was announced, and at which it was mentioned that Orcus would appear in the 4E MM.) Anyway, as perfect as that mini would be, it's almost certainly not going to happen at this point -- WotC knew that the adventure path would arrive at this point, but they also know that they won't make any money from a Gargantuan Orcus figure at this point in time.

Basically, we're probably out of luck.

Sorry for the late response guys, I have been out of it with the flu (no not THAT flu). . . .

I will look into the Dragonborn thing. I think this is the wrong way to go at this juncture. With a major book coming out every month, I don't know anyone who is willing to get this.

Also, can they take the foot of the gas with the dragonborn? There has been way too much placed on their scaly shoulders (and don't even get me started about the sorcerer)

Typo or something more?

I just followed the link to Amazon regarding the minis for Monster Manual:Legendary Evils and read the following:

Each huge booster pack contains:
1 visible, non-random, huge-sized miniature -- pre-painted, fully assembled, durable plastic
4 hidden random miniatures (1 guaranteed to be large-sized) -- pre-painted, fully-assembled, durable plastic

Is it true? Are we going to get visible HUGE figures with this set?!?!?!?!

Wow, this is new info on the item. They say huge twice, so it probably isn't a typo on Amazon's end as the publisher submits all that info and it gets copied and pasted.

That makes for interesting gaming. I think more huge figures would be great!

Also, Amazon has an image up of the Dangerous Delves Package that has a different Visible Mini.

It appears to be a troll with some kind of raking metal fingers. Add that to the three on the home page (Frost Giant, Cyclops and, I believe another troll with an executioner's axe) and I think we have 4 of the 8 visibles. The other large creatures we know about so far are a beholder eye tyrant, aboleth, unicorn, and hippogriff.

They say HERE that the following make up the collection:

"40 different miniatures, with 16 rares, 8 uncommon, 8 visible, and 8 common miniatures in the set"

They also say that of the rares, "about half" are large. So we can guess that we will get 6-7 large rares. The beholder will probably be one, as will the unicorn, the aboleth and perhaps the hippogriff.

That means that next week, we should see the prieview of at least 8(?) larges?

2 trolls and what? what will the final 4 visible be? any guesses?

I think I'd read somewhere before that the next set has Huge visibles, can't recall where though.

Unfortunately, IIRC, it's not a visible figure either, but rather a Rare. (Rares are still randomized, they just come with a Rare-quality, non-randomized, Large, visible figure.) The visible figures from this set are: Aboleth Slime Mage, Bladerager Troll, Cyclops Crusher, Frost Giant, Hippogriff, Skalmad the Troll King*, Unicorn, and War Devil.

If they enter into an agreement with WotC to produce D&D products and the book is created as part of this agreement, its D&D.

You don't get to decide whether or not a product is D&D. The owner of the trademark and copyright of D&D gets to do that. And for better or worse, that owner is currently Wizards of the Coast.

Also I don't know why you keep bringing up Mongoose Publishing. This is from Goodman Games and I couldn't find any connection with the people involved in this and Mongoose.

I think the best way to say it is it is not Core D&D because D&D is what you make of it. my home campaign created by me using the Core rules is not Core D&D but it is D&D. this is of course a argument of symantics. Also I do agree that new rules suplements published by third parties tend to not be balanced witht the Core rules or quickly deevole into unbalance as more core books are publish, but this is not a problem with the company per sey but with the type of product being produced. For example: Wraith Recon is D&D, just as much as my home campaign is D&D, and is not unbalanced even though it is produced by Mongoose.

3rd party is not canon.

It is perfectly legitimate for home games, but will never find its way into RPGA or other sanctioned events.

3rd party products are part of the D&D family, but they are the awkward stepchildren that never get invited to reunions or included in wills.

This thread is for future WotC D&D releases and will never include 3rd party products (as this is one of those aforementioned family gatherings the stepchildren are not invited to).

If you want to start a flamewar between editions or 3rd party vs 1st party products, please do so elsewhere in a dedicated thread.

I was not thrilled with the Heroes minis, although I will be using two of them in an upcoming new campaign (the goliath barbarian and the elf druid as a razorclaw shifter).

These monster minis, on the other hand (with a couple of exceptions) are quite nice. There is some surprising detail in them. I opened the boxes at my FLGS and the owner, who is a big mini guy, was also commenting on the quality of the paint. He powers through more minis in a day than I have seen in my life, so I trust his eye. The kobold cursechanter (or whatever) is more detailed than I thought, as well as the goblin delver. The grimlocks, on the other hand, look almost comically duotoned.

The good thing is that you can see the quality of the visibles, and decide if you want those right off the bat. I mean, who couldn't use a bunch of trolls and cyclops? I don't care for the frost giant paint job, but it is still a useful figure. The aboleth had a better paint job than the photos show, it is almost metallic.

The unicorn looks nice, but I just don't see any use in my games for a unicorn. I have never used or encountered one in almost 30 years of play (except a dead one once, but that's a different story - beware the zombie unicorn!). The War Devil is nice and makes a nice edition to higher level devil-themed campaigns.

Sorry if this is old news, but I haven't seen Underdark mentioned yet, or at least not in the compiled list at the beginning of the thread.

No worries. It is chronologically listed on the first post between the (oversized) Plane Below and PHB3 Images.

Thanks for your diligence.

I wonder when WotC will update the products release page on the main site?
I mean, we're up to March already with the PHB3, not to mention whatever else may be out there; novels, minis, etc.

Looking at the calendar, there are previews of DP (that's Divine Power, people) on June 15, 19, 22, and 26, so I would say the likelihood that it is delayed is slim to none.

Agreed. Divine Power will include PHB and PHB2 Divine characters. Now that we have confirmation on a Martial Power 2, it is reasonable to assume that we will get a Divine Power 2 at some point (as well as a Primal Power 2 and Psychic Power) which will address the new PHB3 classes, as well as previous ones.

Speaking of PHB3 Divine classes, does anyone have an inkling as to what these could be? I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a striker or controller with minor healing abilities, similar to Lay on Hands

I suppose we could also see a defender that locks down more than one baddie, similar to the Warden. That would be divine-y. The minotaur on the cover seems to be of the divine mold.

I wonder if he worships Lord Porterhouse or Kobe, the Drunken Calf?

Time to whip out all the 3.0/3.5 "divine" splat books and see what prestige class might be updated to a core class.....

My guess would be Divine Champion of (insert deity of choice).

I'm actually a bit upset that they are adding another Dive class(es), as I think they have that pretty well rounded with the four classes already in the PHB and PHB2. I'm hoping that WoTC doesn't go all 3.0/3.5E on us by pumping out needless classes in an effort to make us just spend money (yes, I know that is what businesses do). Whatever this class, or these classes, may be, they'd better be good if WoTC expects me to shell out the money they charge.

Additionally, with the current prestige classes, being a "Champion of is pretty covered. If you like a Prestige class from another Divine class, see what your DM will allow you to do to become that prestige class. Maybe he/she will allow you to do so after a series of quests to prove your worthiness.

My DM has his own world (soon to be published, BTW), that has feats and such for each of that world's deities, including prestige tier feats, so being a "Champion" in his world is rather easy and more about role-playing than which Divine character class you took.

Not really. They said from the start, 1 new players handbook, DM guide, and MM guide per year. If that model keeps this edition around for a longer period of time, that much the better. And really, what is the problem? The new players guides are pretty much just more races and classes. No problem with that.

Drow are available for character creation. They are found in the Forgotten Realms Player's Guide. They are also legal on the Character Builder.

My one disappointment in the EPG is the lack of Drow in the races section whwere it discusses other races in Eberron. I would have liked to have seen more feats related to Xen'Drik as well

I take that as an indication that they occur very rarely outside Xen'Drik. It's likely they'll be mentioned in the ECG and/or that a Dragon article will be devoted to them.

I actually took it as an error of omission OR a future dedication in a Xen'Drik splat book. If you look at some of the other entries, especially Devas, they talk about their rarity, and how you may actually be the only one in existence. What could be rarer than that?

I'm just hoping for some Weapon love soon. Goliath Battlehammer weapon doing 3d6 or 4d6 was a nice touch. Need weapons that are like a 60 pound stone at the end of a stick ;) Also I'm hoping for the Monkey Grip feat to make its return and along with improved critical/keen weapons. Yes some Martial Power Classes (2 of them) have 1 at will a piece than can do this but I'm hoping for more.

I'm also hoping for a preview of beyond soon. I would like to know what is 2010 going to hold us. PHB3, MP2, DMG3, MM3, AV3, and Psionic Power. Is there going to be any other Power books?

Details on what the Dragonborn book will be about would be nice. Since it hardly has any pages I just want to know if it would be more than the reprints of the ecology and info in Dragon. Which then would it mean that other races will be getting this love as well.

For a DDI subscriber, it doesn't make sense but then that's not who they will be marketed to primarily, non-subscribers would want the adventures since they don't have access to them and the cost of the book is less than the yearly subscription.

Either I don't understand what point you are trying to make, or you don't understand mine. (no one's fault considering seperate countries, so this isn't a jab)

The adventures that come in the (online only) Dungeon Magazine currently have one format: PDF. And they are only accessed by subscribers, so in order for non-subscribers to get them would be to buy the hardcover annual (if they include them that is). Paizo did the same thing with the adventure path in the old 3.5 Dungeon Magazine; reprinted all the adventures (already printed in the physical magazines) in one hardcover book, and I remember it sold pretty well.

Well, a compilation of Dungeon magazine can hardly include anything but adventures. There are no articles about the stuff you're asking for in Dungeon - that's Dragon magazine.

Then again, this publication is far enough out that they might have accomplished the change in content they've been talking about by then. Dunno if they'll have accumulated a year's worth of material, though.

No, because 1 year+ of adventures is way too many pages to fit into the softcover format.
Also: Dungeon Delve. This disproves your theory that there have been no hardcover adventure books.

a book of adventure is less interesting than a book of monster/spell/object/monster

So don't buy it then. Your interests don't change the fact that if they name something "Dungeon Annual", it can only contain material from Dungeon Magazine.

Well they are starting to seperate the articles out(Dieties & Demigods's player material being turned into a seperate article, Channel Divinity), they just aren't moving the DM articles over yet. My guess is that they are trying to increase the number of player related articles, so that they have a larger pool of player related submissions so that they can be sure that they don't end up with a two article issue of Dragon shortluy after the reshuffling.

First let me point out (since others mentioned Dungeon Delve) that the Revenge of the Giants super adventure will be a hardbound book (unless they changed their minds yet again, which is possible since it was to be a boxed set). So there is "Strike Two" in that argument.

Also, we are not talking about one adventure, we are talking about either many of the misc adventures or the entire Scales of War adventure path combined into one book. It's possible they will make it a soft cover book, but really, why do that when the Dragon Annual is already committed to hardcover?

But it really sounds like you are more interested in the Dragon Annual (magic items and the like), which will be out sooner. But don't buy it looking for something new, everything in those pages will be from past (at the time of publication, not delivery) issues.

***UPDATED***

We are good through April 2010, or at least for the products announced so far.

A miniature set "Streets of Shadow" has been announced for April 2010,
I think it's in the Spring Catalog.
Also the Player's Handbook Heroes; Series 2 needs to be removed from the list.

P.S. Thanks for putting this list together. It's very helpful and much appreciated!

Post #285 on this page has a link to Enworld where the Catalog is listed.
It also has some Cover art at the bottom of the page.

Why, exactly, does Player's Handbook Heroes: Series 2 need to be removed? I see it still slated for release next week.

Actually, besides WotC assertion to the contrary, every retail source I can find for them has them for Preorder on August 18, so unless you can support that they are (in fact) on the shelves, I am going to have to leave it as is.

Like you said, its no biggie, I would just rather err on the side of too much info.

Yeah, since it was a board game, I was holding off. Once I get a little more info about heroscape, I may drop that from the roster too, or at least move it to the minis section.

You are right. I did read this, but obviously I blocked it out (mainly cause I object to these books on principal). I added it in now.

I am amazed how much WotC LOVES the Dragonborn and Tieflings. I mean, I like them fine, but WotC wants to have their babies or something.

I would rather see a format similar to the old "Races of . . ." from 3.5. I enjoyed those books.

Heroscape is a (kind of) board game that uses hex-shaped tiles for battlefields and a more simplified miniatures combat system than D&D. It was originally from Hasbro, but they turned it over to Wizards...I think it was about a year ago. The set is going to use some rebased D&D figures, so I don't know if that means you should leave it on there or what.

I'm sure the other races will get a turn. I'm a Bit surprised that Tiefling is second. When the dragonborn book was announced, I assumed Dwarves would be next, just going in order.

At least Heroscape boosters have all of the figures visible. Now we can know exactly which minis we're getting.

It kinda makes sense. They're doing Dragonborn and Tieflings first because they're the new 4E PHB races. They're like the poster children of 4E.

We should probably expect them to do Eladrin next then, by this logic.

Personally, I'm not sure if we can count on a book for every race. Already there's 21* races that have received player-race write-ups, and we know that number will be at least 23* (but probably 24*) by the time we have PH3 -- by which point we will have seen only one of these "Player's Handbook Races" books. In short, there's going to be a heck of a lot of races to talk about, and at a pace of one book every six months, they'll likely never catch up. (Although we know that D&DI Exclusive races probably will never get such a product anyway.)

*Races, by my count: PH1 (8) Dragonborn, Dwarf, Eladrin, Elf, Half-Elf, Halfling, Human, Tiefling; FRPG (2) Drow, Genasi; PH2 (5) Deva, Gnome, Goliath, Half-Orc, Shifter; EPG (3) Changeling, Kalashtar, Warforged; D&DI (3) Gnoll, Minotaur, Revenant -- PH3 (2 or 3 new) Githzerai, Wilden, and one other race.

Alphabetically: Changeling, Deva, Dragonborn, Drow, Dwarf, Eladrin, Elf, Genasi, Githzerai, Gnoll, Gnome, Goliath, Half-Elf, Halfling, Half-Orc, Human, Kalashtar, Minotaur, Revenant, Shifter, Tiefling, Warforged, Wilden; plus one as-yet-unrevealed race from PH3.

I disagree with Eladrin being next. I think that either the Deva or Genasi will be next as they seem to be the races that the developers love the most next to the Dragonborn or Tieflings.....although that might just be me projecting my own feelings.:P

True, but on the other hand, if the first two sell well, WotC will probably speed up production on the later ones. Frankly one writer and one artist should be able to do 32 pages in a month, especially if they have a decent design bible to work from.

its my thought if they are putting the githzerai in a book, the githyanki are right along with it
i don't think it makes much sense to separate both of the gith races like that
also, where is it said that there are only three races in the PHB3? i haven't seen that, and i'd like to, mostly just to be irritated

Yanki are confirmed as not being in PHB3, and we know there are only 4 races in PHB3. However that is off topic, so if you wish to disccuss it furth please move the discussion to its own thread.

If you're referring to the list I posted above, one race that's not listed under "PH3" -- because it's already listed under D&DI -- is Minotaur, which is also confirmed. (The complete list is Githzerai, Minotaur, Wilden, and one unrevealed race.) As for Githyanki, you're not alone in thinking that they would appear with Githzerai, but WotC has confirmed that 'Yanki won't be in PH3. WotC has stated its reasons for this, and you can discuss them in any of the several other threads that already exist for that topic.

Hi.

I have just been over at Amazon.com and I have pre-orders for the following products for 2010:

For January 2010, Realms of the Dead (anthology), Players Handbook Races: Dragonborn, Underdark

For February 2010, The God Catcher (Greenwood's Waterdeep), Martial Power II, Reavers of Harkenwold (HS1) and, yes, I saw that the Dragon magazine Annual has a tie-in to this module

For March 2010, Avenger (Blades of the Moonsea III), Players Handbook III

For April 2010, The Captive Flame (Griffon Brotherhood I), The Plane Above, Hammerfast

Monster Manual III has not yet been listed for pre-order on Amazon.com

For May 2010, Dungeon Magazine Annual

For June 2010, Circle of Skulls (Greenwood's Waterdeep), Player's Strategy Guide

my two cents worth....

Not sure if you noticed this, but it seems oddly conflicted.  It is called the Slaying Stone, but also has the designation of HS1.  It has the picture of Reavers of Harkenwold, but a release date in May.

If I were to venture a guess, assuming it is not complete garbage, I would say that the name and release date are correct and that it should probably be designated HS2.

Okay so the reason it took me so long to update was that the new forum format screwed up all the old forum post and as soon as I edited it it condensed into a horrible HTML blob, which I just spent the last hour fixing for the first post only.

Now after posting, the spacing is a mess and there is no real solution to the spacing issues - even when I go into HTML and remove line spacing to be exact, the images and words get all jumbled together.

I am kind of at my witts end here. I don't even want to deal with the second post till I get the first squared away. Any Suggestions?

Upload the raw HTML please.  I'll edit it in no time flat.
You may need to upload this as a text document somewhere (in fact, I think you will have to)

Actually, I was able to quote you and steal the HTML directly.  Yays!

If you aren't familiar with HTML, the problem is you need to change the HTML encoding, not just add spaces.  I can run some find-replace routines which can beat the HTML into a readable format, which should make manual changes easier past that.

I can also add some formatting with very little effort.

[edit=

======================================================================

OK, go ahead and quote me from the next couple of posts, then delete the quote brackets and you should be all good.  I'll remove the following posts after you've updated your OP, to eliminate confusion.

Two notes: The images were being displayed in a floating system (note the "style="float:left;" code) rather than a simple imbeded image.  Floating is cool for some things, but for simply displaying an image it casues some headaches.

Secondly, I turned each Picture-based entry into a paragraph (which uses < p > brackets), meaning it will have a bit of space after it.  I used < br > (line break) brackets to manually break one line.  Why the F--- the new boards interperet [ENTER] as starting a new paragraph rather than a new line I have no idea but you can get around it with some effort.

Additionally, I will be uploading an excell sheet very shortly which should make everything *much* easier to keep updated in the future.  I'll post some instructions when I do so.

Heh, no problem.  I'm a technodweeb, so i do stuff like this all the time.

Also, I've uploaded the excel sheet to a download site (mediafire)

www.mediafire.com/.../Product Release Schedule Template.xls

Instructions & notes:

Use the HEADDER Column to disignate something as a headder (using Y for yes).  Headders will show up in bold and large font in the forums

To fetch the HTML, simply select the column with the results (Column I) and copy (Ctrl + C)
Next, go edit the post, choose the "Modify HTML" button, and replace everything with the new code (Paste with Ctrl + V)
Make sure to remove the extra paragraph lines at the end!

Moving cells will move the location refferences to those cells.
    Which is bad.
To move things, you must copy and paste the cells to a new location.
For example, to add some entries under the Dark Sun headder, select all the user-entered cells below that
and copy.  Move down a couple of cells and paste

Updated the "Reavers of Harkenwold" to its new name, release date, and cover image "The Slaying Stone"

What happened to it?
Why did they changed it's name and release date?
Will it still be located on Harkenwold?

Looks like they just wanted to centre the name of the adventure after the pivotal artefact, rather than the place and people.

No Dungeon Master Guide 3?

Read the first page?

The DMGs come out in the Fall.  What's more, they've said it's coming in September.

What I'm wondering is, based on that previews that mentioned the DMG3, they said that MM3 is coming in April.  But we have it said for June.  Which is the correct description?

Any word on the Primal Powers Power Cards?  It seems like they're coming out about half a year after the book comes out, but I haven't seen any listings for them.  I'm guessing May is probably a good guess for them?  Anyone heard anything different?

I just saw the the new list posted on the Product Catalog list for the upcoming DnD items. I always enjoy looking forward to the new products, it gets me all warm and fuzzy on the inside. However, this time looking at what's in-store for the second half of 2010 starting in Aug makes me a little unsettled. I'll tel you why: I have been playing DnD for almost all my life (and I'm 39), and I LOVE 4E!!! I can say that w/o a doubt. But as expected, in Aug it looks like the beginning of 4.5E (???) I mean a look - new starter set, player essentials, a DM Kit (which I thought was pretty cool and about due time - however this too looks like for beginner DM's), the Dungeons tiles are changing, a monster vault, etc. *SIGH* which leads me to believe we are right around the corner for 5E *another big sigh*.

In any event, what is with all the die-cut tokens? Why stop with all of the mini's in the Game Day Kits? and now in all the starter sets and the such? Even in 3/3.5E the starter kits came with minis! Well, at least they are upping it to six (aside from the original 8) but at the same price and even THAT looks like the format is changing yet again after 3 sets.

And they are thinking about bringing back Gamma World? I don't remember it being all that popular when I was a kid when it first came out. Which is another thing...I understand what they are trying to do to be broad and not so predictable with new campaigns and all but Dark Sun didn't seem that big of a success either (though I enjoyed it) for 2E. However, they have had a Dragonlance setting for every edition (1E,2E, 3/3.5E) except this one and form what I recall THAT was and always has been very popular (almost as popular as FR - why not use what works if you want to get people to convert or come back to DnD? Now, I am a traditionalist and have always used Greyhawk as my settings, but I was really hoping that they brought back DL.

OK enough of my ranting. tell me your opinnions.

Read WotC's DnD twitter covering D&D Experience.  Gamma World is being covered in a 160 page book; it's not a campaign setting so as a rule set that derives itself from 4e D&D.  So it's more like Gamma World updated to use the system of 4e D&D than a part of D&D itself.  That said, it'll have releases and apparently be part of the D&D family rather than other WotC families of products.

Dragonlance and Greyhawk are popular, but are traditionalist settings, so WotC may come back to them in the future, but for now, they're trying to expand out in new and interesting ways.  Introducing Gamma World is a great way of doing this, and I'm suddenly getting all sorts of fun ideas of mixing and matching elements from Dark Sun, Gamma World and Eberron to make some sort of magico-sci-fi setting.  The release of Psionics the same year is a definite boon.  I think I might finally be able to run 4e rules for my sci-fi setting that I've been developed without too much stretch and refluff.

Well, I am hopeful for them at least coming back to using Dragon lance - my feeling is that it will be the last campaign setting before they go to 5E. On a side note: I really hope they don't go to a 5E that they stay with the current way of playing and make some adjustments here and there leaving the core mechanic the way it is. I mean after all the time and energy being spent in the character builder, Adventure Tools with all the things they plan on adding to it that it is like"OK guys enough is enough let's just continue to leave well enough alone". -Here's to hoping *raises a mug of ale and chugs*.

*burp*

In regards to the other things you mentioned: I understand and agree to the the "broaden-their-horizons" idea which what D&D is all about. However, instead of going askew with Gamma World, they should have taken that idea and expanded on Spelljamming. I loved that whole concept; it was one of the best ideas they have ever had for any edition and it was my favorite thing about 2E. My campaign plans on having them travel to different realms as well and getting there and expanding on the Spelljamming and cruising thru the Phlogiston adapting and converting some of the SJ rules for adventures battles and skill challenges, will hopefully make it interesting and keep them on their toes.

But I digress, it just seems that they are veering too far off course from what they originally had concieved for 4E; but I hope I am pleasently incorrect.

That admiral outfit the Bone Devil was wearing in the preview artwork for The Plane Above seems to emphasise that we'll see more of Spelljamming in that book.  Spelljammer seems to be something they're wrapping into the core modules.

Are you two aware this is basically a dead topic? If you guys want to discuss this stuff you should probably start a new topic for it rather than hijacking a topic meant solely for posting release dates which isn't being updated anymore.

Sorry Ranadiel.  I was hoping this would still be updating, but alas, I look back at the first page and they're still stuck in November…

I'm sorry, I had no idea that you were part of the Blog Police Task Force on the lookout for those who stray off topic. The fact is that it was slightly resurrected by my rant that evolved into something else. And even if it was a dead topic, WHO CARES!? Why would it bother you so much for two people having a freindly conversation about future releases as in relation to the past releases? If you don't like it and have nothing constructive to say, then don't put your two cents in stating that it's a 'dead topic'? Why would you say that, I didn't see anyone complaining (other than you). What harm is there in having this discussion here on this thread. What would have been better for you to say is: "Hey guys I think this this and this about this topic. Did you know there was a thread dedicated to this very thing? You guys could probably get more interaction with others and more input."

The fact is that even if there isn't another thread on this subject ( that just happened), again I say: "WHO CARES"? This why I don't blog too much and waste my time, b/c there is always someone who has no business saying anything. This conversation just came about, it wasn't done on purpose to subvert the DnD Blog Threads...jeeeeez. I understand that there are threads for reasons but if it evolves into something more from what it started, I don't think there is any rule that states we have to start or join another thread. NO BIG DEAL!

*sigh* I knew tis was going to happen. My point was supposed to be that by posting in this thread is creating the illusion that this thread is still serving its point(keeping a list of updated release dates in the first posts) by giving it activity. If you want to keep posting here then fine, w/e, I have no way to stop you and really don't have the energy(or desire) to constantly retort someone on something as minor as this. I pointed out what I wanted to point out and Marandahir at least got what I meant.

P.S. This is a message board not a blog.

Sorry guys, I really have been swamped with real life. I obviously cannot keep up with this thread, and frankly, the new site and it's obsessively updated content calendar has made this thread pretty obsolete.

I am officially offering, with some forum master help, to transfer this thread to someone else's care. Anyone interested?

Please do. Contrary to EnigmaShock I am of the opinion that this thread still has a purpose to serve: Discussion of upcoming materials in a slightly more superficial way than that an individual thread per item would gain. I for one am wondering now whether the upcoming Monster Vault contain solely already-published material, all new material, or a mix of those. I didn't manage to find an appropriate thread as of yet to ask this question.

You efforts will be much appreciated.
