Thanks a lot Ondo. Additionally thanks must be given to the most awesome thalmin over at ENWorld. He has posted up multiple WotC catalogs, I'm assuming hand typed/copied. | #2Steely_DanAug 06, 2008 8:33:33 | Thanks for this, Ranadiel. Someone sticky this! I will try and find the missing sources, I believe the illusion/shadow power source bit was mentioned in W&M. |
| #3ranadielAug 06, 2008 9:15:24 | Thanks for this, Ranadiel. Someone sticky this! I will try and find the missing sources, I believe the illusion/shadow power source bit was mentioned in W&M. Hmmm I found a refernce to illusions and the shadow power source on page 46, however nothing on there being an illusionist class. I'll go ahead and add the info on the shadow power source, but I'm thinking of removing the blurb on the illusionist because I'm not even sure if that has been mentioned as being a distinct class officially. Edit: Ok, I just updated it with info from the PHB on new power sources and also some stuff on the shadow power source from Worlds and Monsters. I also decided to include page numbers whenever refering to a book(does not apply to dragon articles though). Finally I also included a tiny bit of info on the primal power source regarding the druid's place in the power source, that I didn't feel was appropriate for the Druid entry but fits perfectly in the primal power source entry. Edit 2: Info dump part 2! October 2009 Dungeon Master's Guide II Dragon Magazine Annual 2009 Primal Power |
| #4Steely_DanAug 06, 2008 9:35:18 | There is also mention of dwarf elementalists in R&C. |
| #5ranadielAug 06, 2008 9:42:03 | There is also mention of dwarf elementalists in R&C. Hmm I guess that is specific enough in context(just reread it) to warrant an entry. Oh and I also added some more stuff on FRPG from the Living Forgotten Realms document thing that was released a while ago. |
| #6Steely_DanAug 06, 2008 9:46:40 | Hmm I guess that is specific enough in context(just reread it) to warrant an entry. It was probably when they were throwing around the idea of an elemental power course, now that said power source has been confirmed, I doubt we'll actually see a class called "Elementalist". But who know, and thanks for adding it to the list. |
| #7ranadielAug 06, 2008 10:01:25 | It was probably when they were throwing around the idea of an elemental power course, now that said power source has been confirmed, I doubt we'll actually see a class called "Elementalist". Actually, I think it is meant 100% as a class name. Just look at the context. Dwarf legends are replete with great clerics, fighters, barbarians, rangers, and other individuals of martial skill. Less common, but equally famed are powerful dwarf wizards and elementalists. As you'll note, it refers to five different classes in this passage and continues on to elementalist. If it went "powerful dwarf arcanists and elementalists" then I would think that elementalists was simply referring to generic elemental classes, but the way it is worded it is implying that elementalist is just as much of a class wizards are. |
| #8Steely_DanAug 06, 2008 10:04:46 | Actually, I think it is meant 100% as a class name. Just look at the context. Ah, yes, totally, I don't actually own R&C so I was going by what I heard late last year. Keep up the good work! |
| #9wotansman_dupAug 06, 2008 13:49:21 | -EnWorld’s claim that the Swordmage will be in the PHBII is unfounded, Source The source on this is a dead link... I only say this because I want to know, and couldn't find the source. Thanks for this, I love that your not just including what you've heard, but including sources, it makes it all the better to know that you're getting this from somewhere. Thanks again. |
| #10ranadielAug 06, 2008 13:52:54 | The source on this is a dead link... I only say this because I want to know, and couldn't find the source. Are you sure? I just tried it and it worked fine. Maybe ENWorld was just down when you tried it? Anyways, as it isn't obvious where on the page it is, here is the quote. For context, it was by the person who posted the catalog entries in response to someone asking about the Swordmage being in the PHBII. The scoop is an error. I inadvertently combined 2 lists. Sorry. |
| #11the_badger_02Aug 06, 2008 13:58:36 | Nevermind, just noticed the Martial entry. Will be quiet now. |
| #12wotansman_dupAug 06, 2008 14:01:33 | Are you sure? I just tried it and it worked fine. Maybe ENWorld was just down when you tried it? Anyways, as it isn't obvious where on the page it is, here is the quote. For context, it was by the person who posted the catalog entries in response to someone asking about the Swordmage being in the PHBII. Maybe I should try in an IE tab (I'm using Firefox). I got an error 404 on EnWorld's site saying that the thread didn't exist. I even tried just using the address without all the leaving gleemax stuff... Maybe my computer just doesn't like the addy... but again thanks for being so thorough with the sources, not too many people do that these days, and I appreciate it. |
| #13ranadielAug 06, 2008 15:34:02 | Alright so the following are the things that I still need to find the original sources for. I'm going to spend an hour or so looking for them right now. If anyone remembers any of them though be sure to post them. -Will have new masterwork armors, Source? -Will contain Animal Companion for Rangers, Source? -Will be an Arcane Controller, Source? -Mentioned in relation to the shadow power source?, Source? -Class will either be martial or a striker not both, Source? -Will contain a multiclass only class for Spellscars, Source? Oh and does anyone know how I would go about requesting this being made into a sticky? Maybe I should try in an IE tab (I'm using Firefox). I got an error 404 on EnWorld's site saying that the thread didn't exist. I even tried just using the address without all the leaving gleemax stuff... Maybe my computer just doesn't like the addy... but again thanks for being so thorough with the sources, not too many people do that these days, and I appreciate it. Hmm I really wish that I could help you out. I am using Internet Explorer though, so definatly try that out. |
| #14wotansman_dupAug 06, 2008 16:38:19 | *not trying to beat a dead horse* yah, IE tab didn't work, all other links work, even within EnWorld, I don't know it's just my computer, heck, I'll even go so far as to blame Vista... Thanks for quoting it for me, I'll only question a source so far, I'm assuming you have it on authority, and it's my system that's the problem, thanks, and keep the good stuff coming. |
| #15ranadielAug 06, 2008 17:13:15 | Okay I tried to post this a second ago, but it ate my post. So to sum it up, I'm mostly finished. Just one claim left to do, and I'd appreciate it if someone could locate whereever they said thay wouldn't reprint material.*not trying to beat a dead horse* If you want to triple check, just look through the article on ENWorld. The only place in the catalog, the supposed source of the Swordmage being in the PHBII, is under Arcane Power. Alternatively, you could try manually finding the thread at ENWorld if the rest of the site works for you. The thread is called "4e / GSL WotC Spring 2009 Catalog" is located in this forum. The current last post was made at 9 PM 8/5/08. At the moment of this posting it is on the fourth page of the forum. The post in question is on the fifth page. |

I hate my computer sometimes. Just to make it clear, it's not that I was disbelieving you, I just really like to have a source; though you have been dogged in helping me double check it without a hint of frustration. My hat is off to you, especially in these dark times (what with the edition wars and such not anger)... You are a scholar and a gentleman. Thanks again. |
| #17ranadielAug 07, 2008 6:34:25 | I just added three new bits from the new preview article. Forgotten Ralms Player's Guide -Will contain a new pact for the Warlock that is based off of dark beings that lurk in Drow civilization, Source Adventurer's Vault -New weapons properties including brutal(reroll damage if you roll less then a given value), Source -Will contain at least one summoning item(possibly showcasing future summoning mechanics), Source found it, Thanks. I hate my computer sometimes. I know that you weren't doubting me, but part of the point of this thread is so that you can always double check the original source of information. If you are unable to find the information's source then that somewhat defeats the whole point. And thanks for the compliment, I always try.:D |
| #18wizardmonAug 07, 2008 14:26:46 | About the Illusionist. Could you change the text to "in possible relation to Shadow..." or whatever? Because the source you linked to said it was possible, not that it was, and I think that is an important point to be clear on. |
| #19ranadielAug 07, 2008 14:36:44 | About the Illusionist. Could you change the text to "in possible relation to Shadow..." or whatever? Because the source you linked to said it was possible, not that it was, and I think that is an important point to be clear on. Alright I just edited the wording, and also put the info that was in the necromancer's entry under the illusionist's entry and vice versa(I don't know why i didn't do that begin with since both sources mentioned both classes). Let me know if you think the new wording is good or not. |
| #20wizardmonAug 07, 2008 15:58:18 | I think that the Necromancer was more of a "is Shadow" as opposed to the Illusionist which was simply "possibly Shadow." But it's fine by me; I just wanted the possiblility of the Illusionist being Arcane to still remain, as it has not been 99% confirmed as shadow (as the Necromancer has). Thanks for listening! |
| #21ranadielAug 12, 2008 20:41:08 | I can't let this thread drop to page 2! I just updated the list(before the boards started crashing) with a snippet for Adventurer's Vault. Ah the joys of owning an airship.:D I think that the Necromancer was more of a "is Shadow" as opposed to the Illusionist which was simply "possibly Shadow." But it's fine by me; I just wanted the possiblility of the Illusionist being Arcane to still remain, as it has not been 99% confirmed as shadow (as the Necromancer has). Thanks for listening! Well originally, I forgot to even mention that the Necromancer was likely a shadow class at all so it was good for me to add it.:embarrass And there is pretty much the same amount of evidence, at least that I can find, for the Necromancer being shadow as there is for the Illusionist being shadow. The amount fo difference essentially amounts to one word. |
| #22ranadielAug 15, 2008 6:04:50 | Just wanted to make a note that I have added Shfter and Kalashtar info. I expect to be adding a lot more info in the coming three days as well. |
| #23gorgosaurusAug 15, 2008 21:48:01 | It's not a surprise, Adventurer's Vault will contain new mounts. Elephants and... sharks are announced here (official d&d french editor) : http://www.play-dd.fr/article_7_une_rentree_tres_d_d….html (in french) |
| #24wotansman_dupAug 16, 2008 0:10:20 | It's not a surprise, Adventurer's Vault will contain new mounts. I don't know French, however I could verify the elephants on that page, nice. |
| #25ranadielAug 16, 2008 5:48:15 | It's not a surprise, Adventurer's Vault will contain new mounts. Thanks, I only put elephants down since I didn't need to translate those, but that is an awesome scoop.....now to there are laser beams in there so I can put put one on a shark mount.:D -=Edit=- I just added some stuff from yesterday's Gencon panels. Good news for all of your two weapon fighter. |
| #26the_ragiAug 16, 2008 21:42:29 | Don't know how this fits here, or if at all, but I thought I should point it out: "Even New DM folded to the powers of a new supplement: Player's Handbook II. He created a warforged of a top-secret leader class that I can't disclose yet. His character travels with a "buddy" who keeps the party in tip-top shape but that's all New DM was willing to disclose." Source: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drcw/20080725a From the july edition of dragon mag. |
| #27doctorhookAug 17, 2008 1:51:45 | A couple of entries to add to your list: Divine Power and Adventurer's Vault 2. No specific info provided. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4dnd/20080815 |
| #28ranadielAug 17, 2008 7:20:38 | Don't know how this fits here, or if at all, but I thought I should point it out: Meh I went ahead and put it in there since it fit with some of the other stuff that I had in there. I wish that she had just come out and said Shaman though because that really seems, to me at least, to be what she was talking about. A couple of entries to add to your list: Divine Power and Adventurer's Vault 2. No specific info provided. Well I wasn't planning on including products if there was no info on them provided, but why the heck not. If someone could go over to make sure that I didn't miss any products, I would apprecaite it(only crunching books, no supplements, accesories, or adventures). |
| #29doctorhookAug 17, 2008 12:37:40 | Well I wasn't planning on including products if there was no info on them provided, but why the heck not. If someone could go over to make sure that I didn't miss any products, I would apprecaite it(only crunching books, no supplements, accesories, or adventures). I'm pretty sure you've got them all, Ranadiel. (Unless you wanna include adventures; so far, 4E's adventures have had a history of including new monster entries. For example, Duergar and several other monsters have a MM-style spread in H2. These'll probably make it into an actual Monster Manual someday, though -- I hope.) |
| #30ranadielAug 17, 2008 14:40:33 | I'm pretty sure you've got them all, Ranadiel. .....The adventures have new monsters? Dang it. I wasn't buying them because I thought they didn't have anything new. Anyways, I'm not including them, because there really don't seem to be any arguments regarding their contents before they come out, and this primarily is supposed to serve as a way for people to easily back up their arguments. Also we really don't get too much advanced info on them. And I just thought of something I've been meaning to ask in here, any ideas on what I should do with stuff after it has been released? I was thinking of keeping it for a month and then making a dump post in this thread where all the old stuff gets stored. |
| #31doctorhookAug 17, 2008 15:02:54 | .....The adventures have new monsters? Dang it. I wasn't buying them because I thought they didn't have anything new. Sounds good to me, Ranadiel. |

| #34johnthedm7000Aug 18, 2008 9:56:38 | Sorry...my mistake-guess in my excitement over the summoning goodness I missed it. :P |
| #35ranadielAug 20, 2008 7:38:39 | Update for today. New info added under Ki and Gnome. Additionally a new section for Oriental Adventures added under Unsorted Stuff. The highlight reel version is that the gnome love of badgers will be mentioned in their PHB entry, not all Ki classes will be eastern flavor(implied through the statement that some Ki classes would fit in Oriental Adventures), and that an Oriental Adventures book will not be released before Ki classes in a PHB. Additionally, upon thinking about it, I just decided to add that the possibility of multiple power books for a power source does exist. I'm going to go add that somewhere now. |
| #36JohnLynchAug 20, 2008 8:26:24 | Thanks for this info :D |

| #38ranadielAug 21, 2008 16:15:57 | Bumpage-this thread really needs to be stickied! Yeah....does anyone know how I would go about making that request? |
| #39munchmausen1Aug 25, 2008 9:12:28 | Elementalist Creative reading: I merged the first two words as "Existentialist." |
| #40wotanAug 27, 2008 11:08:55 | Yeah....does anyone know how I would go about making that request? I don't know, I tried to PM a moderator last month about getting something stickied, and that didn't even get answered... so good luck, and get back to me when you figure out how to do it. |
| #41BolongoAug 27, 2008 11:27:31 | Creative reading: I merged the first two words as "Existentialist." That would be a really difficult class to create in D&D 4. See, because the character's existence precedes his essence, you can't pin him down to a Role or a set list of Powers. He makes it all up as he goes along. :P |
| #42feylinSep 01, 2008 15:41:23 | bump Anyone know how to sticky this? |
| #43ranadielSep 02, 2008 6:40:16 | Hurray! I finally figured out how to get the thread stickied and it was a completely painless process! It just took forever to figure out where to make the request. Once again today we have another update regarding Adventurer's Vault. Also I'm going to add Dungeon Annual 2009 to the list. Also yesterday, I removed the note regarding Source? as there was no info which fit the bill any more. |
| #44ranadielSep 07, 2008 19:08:53 | Okay, considering that people seem to be skipping over this topic frequently, I was wondering if anyone might have any ideas for a better name in order to get people to notice it a bit more, in order to decrease the number of people asking questions that we already have answers for. |
| #45captainswiftSep 07, 2008 21:34:44 | Okay, considering that people seem to be skipping over this topic frequently, I was wondering if anyone might have any ideas for a better name in order to get people to notice it a bit more, in order to decrease the number of people asking questions that we already have answers for. A quixotic effort, I'm afraid. This thread is excellent, and needed, but I'm afraid it's just the instinct of most message boarders to post first, and search later. We just need to keep pointing people here. |
| #46catzoSep 10, 2008 9:03:34 | Very nice thread ![]() Someone said that the Aasimar's new official name is Deva... anyone got a source? |
| #47feylinSep 10, 2008 9:43:04 | Umm I absolutely love this thread but maybe since the FRCG is out you could take down what is "Too be Released?" It has almost been a month. Thanks and keep up the amazingly simple and useful source for information on things to be in the world of DnD. Feylin. |
| #48ranadielSep 10, 2008 11:00:10 | Very nice thread A person on the Forgotten Realms thread said it is stated in the FRPG. I'll add it once I am able to verify it. Umm I absolutely love this thread but maybe since the FRCG is out you could take down what is "Too be Released?" I'm going to move it into another post in about a week. I've decided to keep info up a month after book itself is released. |
| #49ranadielSep 11, 2008 13:15:16 | Alright I want some other opinions on something. So thanks to someone in a nother thread, this thread came to my attention. It looks like good info, but there is really nothing too definite as to any new info. So is there anything that I am missing or anything I should add in from it anyways? |
| #50solvacioSep 15, 2008 20:44:34 | This is my first post to these forums, I am a recent member. Hello Everyone I am curious if anyone knows if there will be an update to the Book of Vile Darkness & Book of Exalted Deeds. To conform to the 4th edition rules. I know for example that Asmodeus has attained Godhood and ended the bloodwar by pushing the abyss to the bottom of the elemental chaos. Along with other changes, that affect directly those books since they primarily dealt with the 9 hells, the abyss and celestia. Any thoughts? Sol Vacio |
| #51ranadielSep 15, 2008 21:29:12 | This is my first post to these forums, I am a recent member. Hello Everyone All known info is compiled in the first post. There is currently no definite status one way or another with new versions for those books. Additionally, Asmodeus only "pushed" the abyss in Forgotten Realms. In the default setting there never was a bloodwar and the Abyss and Nine Hells were always in their current positions. If you want more info on Demon Lords and Archdevils though the best places to look would be Dragon articles and the Manual of the Planes as we know new ones will be appearing in both, likely with additional backstory. |

| #53Steely_DanSep 16, 2008 10:29:57 | In any way I hope they do update those books. The BoVD and BoED were very touchy books for a lot of people; many thought their treatment of the concepts of good and evil were trite at best, and the mechanics, well… |
| #54batshidoSep 16, 2008 10:39:46 | The BoVD and BoED were very touchy books for a lot of people; many thought their treatment of the concepts of good and evil were trite at best, and the mechanics, well… I never actually purchased them, but reading through them it was clear that the concepts of Good and Evil it was all built on were very one dimensional. The BoED should have had the choir "Aaaaaah" sound play when you opened it up, and the BoVD was filled with caricatures of actual evil, rather than anything interesting. Anyway, with the changes to the alignment system I don't really see either making a return. Which is probably a good thing. |
| #55ranadielSep 16, 2008 12:53:27 | There was never a bloodwar? thats interesting I've seen it referenced several times, and as well in the new Forgotten Realms Campagin Guide it specifically menttions that "He ended teh Blood War by pushing the Abyss to the bottom of the Elemental Chaos. Let me repeat that for you. In the default POL setting the bloodwar never happened as it is a completely new setting. Asmodeus ending the bloodwar in Forgotten Realms is simply mirroring the cosmology update in the Forgotten Realms campaign without removing the history. |
| #56TempestLASep 17, 2008 12:27:58 | According to page 20 and 21 of the Forgotten Realms Player's Guide, the following "other" races are mentioned: Gnomes (confirmed PHB II) Goblins Lycanthropes/Shifters (Shifters confirmed for PHB II) Orcs/Half-Orcs (Half Orcs confirmed for PHB II) Devas (formerly Aasimar) Goliaths (confirmed for PHB II) As noted in the opening post, there will be 5 new races in the PHB II, of which 4 are confirmed. The first and second letter of the other race (by process of elimination) will be DE. Appears that the last race to be included in the PHB II will be the Deva. An interesting note is that the race as a whole perpetually reincarnates as they are immortal being that were forced to incorporate tio come into the world. Whether this will carry to the D&D race as a whole is left to be seen. |
| #57ranadielSep 17, 2008 14:01:41 | As a note, I've decided to rework my policy regarding how long something remains up in the the thread as the FRCG really has been up for far to long. So now books will be removed once I recieve them(assuming I buy them, otherwise whenever I think about it). I'll move the FRCG with the other stuff in a couple of days.According to page 20 and 21 of the Forgotten Realms Player's Guide, the following "other" races are mentioned: I plan to add the bit about the Deva into the first post once I get my copy. I'm not going to put it as being confirmed for the PHBII just yet though because there has yet to be official confirmation. I personally do believe that they will be the fifth race, but I want to keep the first post as free from my personal bias as possible. |
| #58wotanSep 19, 2008 4:08:50 | I don't have time to listen right now, but I saw this on the blurb describing the podcast. Source Specifically referencing: including mention of sequel books to class supplements like Arcane Power 2 I don't see anything up even a skeleton of the Arcane power 2, is this not going to happen? |
| #59JohnLynchSep 19, 2008 5:06:43 | The quote says such books are possible, not that there'll definitely be a Arcane Power 2. |
| #60ranadielSep 19, 2008 8:23:21 | I don't have time to listen right now, but I saw this on the blurb describing the podcast. During the interview, Rob Heinsoo makes mention of some option possibly appearing in Arcane Power 2. I don't believe he says that there will definatly be an Arcane Power 2. |
| #61wotanSep 19, 2008 13:42:12 | Yah, I listened to it while feeding my son just a bit ago, still couldn't find it, but I was skipping around, so I'm pretty sure I missed it. Thanks. I'm still in a discussion with one of the players in my group... he thinks that the "powers" books will be only one iteration. I personally think there will be more, and this would have sealed the deal.. but alas it is not yet. Anywho, thanks for the summation. |
| #62ranadielSep 19, 2008 20:13:47 | Alright I just performed my monthly cleaning of the thread. Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide, Forgotten Realms Player's Guide, and Adventurer's Vault have all been moved to a post on the second page(to keep the first page from getting obscenely long in the future). Additionally I have added info from FRPG and AV to the list. I decided to go ahead and put Deva under the PHBII section and try to make it clear from context that right now it is just our best fit and not confirmed yet. |
| #63burningtiger_dupOct 01, 2008 14:33:09 | Hi Ranadiel. I was looking through your compilation and noticed that you missed the following bit of info. Acererak (the lich from Greyhawk that created the Tomb of Horrors) is apparently going to be in the Open Grave book. Source 2009 • January: Open Grave, with undead creatures at all levels of play (Acererak!). |

| #67ranadielOct 06, 2008 18:02:54 | Isn't it a tad early to talk about PHB3? Shush you, there have barely been any good pieces of information released recently. This ends the drought, do not question the rain man(Rich Baker)! On another note, do people think I should make a post whenever I add a new piece of info? I did this time to remind people this thread lives, but I don't want there to be pages of me just listing updates. |
| #68ff6shadowOct 06, 2008 18:07:03 | O think it would be nice to know when new info is added. |
| #69JohnLynchOct 06, 2008 19:05:26 | Shush you, there have barely been any good pieces of information released recently. This ends the drought, do not question the rain man(Rich Baker)! I'm just worried about a future drought because Rich only has so much rain in him. I'm hoping this was a once off and we'll get all the PHB2 rain left before we get anymore PHB3 rain ;) On another note, do people think I should make a post whenever I add a new piece of info? I did this time to remind people this thread lives, but I don't want there to be pages of me just listing updates. I know I'd surely appreciate it. |
| #70ranadielOct 06, 2008 19:36:47 | I'm just worried about a future drought because Rich only has so much rain in him. I'm hoping this was a once off and we'll get all the PHB2 rain left before we get anymore PHB3 rain ;) I don't know, Rich has been a good source of info about future products since I first started this thread. If I remember correctly, he was the one who ended up confirming info about the bard and sorceror before we even knew for sure either would be in the PHBII. |
| #71captainswiftOct 06, 2008 20:10:15 | Definitely post when you've added new info. It's nice to know when something's been added. |

| #73ondoOct 09, 2008 1:49:18 | Thanks must be given to Ondo for making a similair thread at ENWorld. It helped me find a lot of references that weren't easy to find as I was wrapping up the references for everything from the first draft. I also found a reference or two that I hadn't seen before. Thanks a lot Ondo. Your welcome, and I'm glad to see someone being even more thorough than me. This thread was a great help in catching up on info recently. One question: under PHBII you list "a new defender" as being confirmed - do you have the source for that? It's not info I recognize. And the D&D Compendium seems to be leaking info about Martial Power again - there's a thread about it here in the Giant in the Playground forums, and the info is still in the Compendium as I write this. |
| #74ranadielOct 09, 2008 6:22:35 | Your welcome, and I'm glad to see someone being even more thorough than me. This thread was a great help in catching up on info recently. Oh sorry about the new defender bit source confusion. It is mentioned in the interview where the first letters of the classes are revealed. Mind you it is just a like a five second blurb with next to no new info, but it is there. I'll try to remember to make that section fit better with the rest of the info during the next update(which should be when I get back from breakfast). And I saw someone mention the compendium "slip-up" somewhere else. I'll put that in with the update, but I'm not completely sure how to word all of them yet. I'm sure I'll figure something out though. |
| #75ranadielOct 09, 2008 8:12:52 | Okay the update is up now, reformatting some of the stuff under PHBII-Classes, adding new sections under Martial Power for all four classes, and adding the compendium info. |
| #76ranadielOct 13, 2008 6:04:49 | Fighter excerts from the main site added and linked. |
| #77ranadielOct 13, 2008 19:56:00 | And I just added a link to ENWorld to cover the Druid info from Noonan's blog since the blog was lost when Gleemax died. Would someone mind checking my sources to see if any others are dead? |
| #78ranadielOct 14, 2008 12:53:01 | New info added(have I mentioned I love Rich Baker?). Divine Power -Work was done on diety domains and portfolios for a core rule book, Source -There will be a sidebar converting domains and portfolios to Realm dieties, Source The post doesn't actually specify that it will be Divine Power, but unless they announce a book dedicated to angels and other Astral Sea denizens, there are no other books for which this is within the scope of. |
| #79theblackwingOct 14, 2008 13:30:50 | The post doesn't actually specify that it will be Divine Power, but unless they announce a book dedicated to angels and other Astral Sea denizens, there are no other books for which this is within the scope of. Seems to me that it's much more likely to be found in Manual of the Planes rather then Divine Power. |
| #80cdtalmasOct 14, 2008 14:20:16 | Mmm... Sorry, I'm going to have to agree that Divine Power (or possibly Deities/Demigods) would be the appropriate book over the Manual of the Planes. The planes themselves, while they may mention the gods, shouldn't focus exclusively on the gods. |
| #81theblackwingOct 14, 2008 14:44:52 | Mmm... Sorry, I'm going to have to agree that Divine Power (or possibly Deities/Demigods) would be the appropriate book over the Manual of the Planes. The planes themselves, while they may mention the gods, shouldn't focus exclusively on the gods. I don't see how listing domains and portfolios is focusing on the gods. After thinking about it though I'll agree that Divine Power would also be an appropriate book. I think it's certain to be in one or the other though, because it's been said we're not getting another "god book" like Deities And Demigods. |
| #82cdtalmasOct 14, 2008 15:00:10 | I'm more in the mindset of "Hey, there's the Dream Plane! I wonder what creatures/items/denizens reign within." Not necessarily what god rules over the plane (or what powers they entail), though it could definitely be mentioned and probably slightly expanded upon with a bit of mythology/lore. If portfolios/domains come about, though, I want it to be a bit more center-stage than that. I just don't think the Manual of the Planes would allow it. |
| #83theblackwingOct 14, 2008 16:00:36 | When I think of exploring the planes I think, "...and this is the Astral Sea, oh look, it's Mt. Celestia and there's Bahamut the god of so and so...", along with the list of places/creatures/items. Martial Power will give me a better idea of what to expect, but I assume that the Power books are focused on new class features, powers, paragon paths and epic destinies. Basically just a whole lot of crunch. So while I don't disagree that they could have there place in the book for added flavor, I don't see the domains and portfolios of the gods having much impact in Divine Power. |
| #84captainswiftOct 14, 2008 16:30:57 | ...because it's been said we're not getting another "god book" like Deities And Demigods. Really? When was this? I haven't heard that at all. With statements about being able to fight the gods as a staple of Epic levels, I thought DDG was a given. |
| #85ranadielOct 14, 2008 18:24:31 | When I think of exploring the planes I think, "...and this is the Astral Sea, oh look, it's Mt. Celestia and there's Bahamut the god of so and so...", along with the list of places/creatures/items. Well see my assumption is that Domains is somehow going to relate to new options for Divine characters. Either new builds, paragon paths, or feats that require you to worship a god with said domain or portfolio. I mean if domains and portfolios are solely the realm of fluff then there is really no need to convert them to the Realm dieties. *shrugs* Just my opinion though. |
| #86torielOct 15, 2008 9:50:57 | I have noticed in the September preview for the Martial Power (link: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4pr/20080904a) this little part near the beginning: Playing a rogue? Perhaps you'd be interested in such new powers as stupefying violence, pommel smash, or a murder of one. Perhaps you'd like to follow the path of the cloaked sniper, daring acrobat, guildmaster thief, or master spy? Looks like we can expect the following Paragon Paths: cloaked sniper daring acrobat guildmaster thief master spy Just making sure the list is thorough ![]() |

When was this? I haven't heard that at all. With statements about being able to fight the gods as a staple of Epic levels, I thought DDG was a given. I honestly don't remember the source (I know it was said somewhere, I think by Rich Baker in one of the older "Ask an author/developer" threads, but I can't be sure), but if you think about it, why would they make a book about the gods of the core setting if they aren't going to develop the core setting itself? And the gods of other settings are better described in their own respective campaign books. I honestly don't think we'll see stats for fighting gods, but if we do it'll probably be parsed out among books just like the stats for the varying Demon Princes are, and they'll probably only be stats for the evil gods at that. |
| #89ranadielOct 17, 2008 6:36:59 | Eternal Defender Epic Destiny added to fighter under martial Power. Gladiator removed as the Dragon article has been released. I also went ahead and reorganzied the info dump so that it will be easier to read in the future. |
| #90ranadielOct 20, 2008 6:44:47 | Updated with info from the ranger preview(a shame there is only one new build, looks like the new builds on the Compendium will be it) and from the Draconomicon preview(although not a lot mentioned there). Honestly I really enjoyed the quick explanation of the dragon families. They should prove to be interesting releases in the coming years. |
| #91pauln6Oct 21, 2008 4:54:25 | Well see my assumption is that Domains is somehow going to relate to new options for Divine characters. I mean if domains and portfolios are solely the realm of fluff then there is really no need to convert them to the Realm dieties. *shrugs* Just my opinion though. We might get additional divinity feats but maybe the recent gladiator articles give us more of a clue. Maybe domain powers are going to be available as clerical multiclass feats like the weapon speciality powers. It would certainly be easier to balance them as they would be domain specific power swaps. It does mean that multi-class clerics would get the short end of the stick when it comes to specialising though. However, we've already seen deity-specific paragon paths for the FR which would still be available to multi-classed clerics so the options should be numerous and varied. I'm a Greyhawk player at any rate, so generic guidance on deity domains will be useful. Hopefully some more deity-specific power swaps will appear in Dragon in due course as well. |

| #97DiscordianNov 03, 2008 4:32:53 | Wild guess: Warden is a primal leader. |
| #98karldark_dupNov 03, 2008 5:39:46 | Wild guess: Warden is a primal leader. I hope not |
| #99ranadielNov 03, 2008 6:44:49 | Okay so today's updates are from Draconomicon excerts(including an addition to the Dragonlance entry and a new Greyhawk entry), excerts from Martial Power on the Warlord, a mention of a Warden in the Minotaur article, and a lot of Bard info from Ampersand(not added yet). Today was a good day. I'll add the Bard stuff when I get back from Breakfast because I need to get going right now.Just noticed: *dances for joy* Thank you, I would have completely missed that. *makes a mark on a sheet of paper* One more correct guess for me! Incidently, this now completes the Primal power source for PHBII leaving us with only two unknown classes, divine classes beginning with I and T. Wild guess: Warden is a primal leader. Since we have Shaman confirmed as a leader, I wouldn't count on it. |
| #100enigmashockNov 03, 2008 7:56:43 | My guess is Warden be a primal controller, warding off enemy movements - but hey, no one says we can't have two leaders in a power source. Theurge and Inquisitor? Templar and Invoker? We will know soon enough . . . |
| #101ranadielNov 03, 2008 8:18:08 | Okay I updated the Bard section, and also moved the minotaur to the info dump since I was making updates anyways. I tried to be conservative on the Bard info I posted, while also hitting all of the highlights since it is part of the subscriber content. I'm not sure if I did a good job on balancing those though. My guess is Warden be a primal controller, warding off enemy movements - but hey, no one says we can't have two leaders in a power source. Considering the definition of warden: a person charged with the care or custody of persons, animals, or things; keeper. I'd say that defender is much more likely then controller. Were it warder, then I'd agree with you, but warden just screams defender to me. |
| #102DiscordianNov 03, 2008 10:40:07 | Since we have Shaman confirmed as a leader, I wouldn't count on it. Oh, I'd missed that. Or read it and forgotten it. |
| #103enigmashockNov 03, 2008 13:38:44 | Okay I updated the Bard section, and also moved the minotaur to the info dump since I was making updates anyways. I tried to be conservative on the Bard info I posted, while also hitting all of the highlights since it is part of the subscriber content. I'm not sure if I did a good job on balancing those though. Actually, I had meant "Primal Defender, warding off enemy movements - but hey, no one says we can't have two leaders in a power source." It was early, and I was tired . . . I know a druid will be the controller |
| #104ranadielNov 05, 2008 7:46:07 | New updates for the day! Read them while they are hot! -Moved Warden under PHBII as we have confirmation that it is appearing there -Added stuff on Martial Power, Draconomicon I, and Manual of the Planes that appeared in the new preview article. -Special note: Tiamat is appearing in Draconomicon I! God slayers get your weapons ready because this month we get our first statted out diety! |
| #105wizardmonNov 05, 2008 8:44:09 | Theurge and Inquisitor? Templar and Invoker? I feel that it is noteworthy how similar the words Invoker (supposed Divine Controller) and Invocation (Primal powers) are. IMO, it would be silly to put a class called Invoker in the PH2 when it can't even use the Invocations described there. :D It would be like making a Primal class called Spellcaster! (Of course, they could pull some crazy stuff on us, and say that the Divine Controller has access to Primal powers..... but I doubt it.) |
| #106ff6shadowNov 05, 2008 12:53:04 | Fair to note that Primal powers aren't Invocations, they are Evocations. ![]() |
| #107ranadielNov 05, 2008 15:38:29 | Suprise mid-day update! Someone at ENWorld got themselves Martial Power. I think I've gotten all the highlight, but anyone who wants to look can here.Fair to note that Primal powers aren't Invocations, they are Evocations. Yeah well those two might not be the same, but they are close enough to cause confusion especially if we have the Invoker and Primal Evocations in the same book. -=Edit: And I should point out, that I believe one of the reasons that the Marshal name was changed to Warlord was because of the similarity to Martial, so avoiding names because they sound similair wouldn't be a first.=- |
| #108BelorinNov 05, 2008 17:25:02 | Yeah, because Warlord, Warlock and Warden don't sound anything alike... but I did solve the abbrieviation problem; warlock = wlk, warlord = wld and warden = wdn. Bel |
| #109ranadielNov 05, 2008 17:40:29 | Yeah, because Warlord, Warlock and Warden don't sound anything alike... but I did solve the abbrieviation problem; warlock = wlk, warlord = wld and warden = wdn. They only sound alike in the first syllable. Even if you say them real fast, it is really hard to say them like eachother. Marshal/martial and invoke/envoke sound a lot more alike. |
| #110BelorinNov 06, 2008 12:46:35 | True, but just think if they had gone with Warrior instead of Fighter... Bel |
| #111wizardmonNov 06, 2008 12:50:17 | LOL! My bad! XDDD Seriously, I would have never made that point had I been thinking clearly. Also, I have little problem differentiating Warlock, Warlord, and Warden. For one, I never abbreviate class names, for second, I manage to pronounce/emphasize the "War" part of each name differently, so for myself and those I know, there is really no ambiguity. I know the same thing can be said about the Invoker and Evocations, but I already conceded to that point. XD |
| #112ff6shadowNov 06, 2008 14:14:41 | Yeah well those two might not be the same, but they are close enough to cause confusion especially if we have the Invoker and Primal Evocations in the same book. I know, I was just giving him a hard time. They are probably to close. |
| #113ranadielNov 06, 2008 14:45:37 | True, but just think if they had gone with Warrior instead of Fighter... Then if they released a Warmage we could have a 5 person war party covering all roles?:D |
| #114ranadielNov 10, 2008 6:41:46 | We now have info on purple dragons. They apparently live in the Underdark and have a psychic breath weapon. They also apparently have phasing. I have to admit that that seems like something that would be really scary in the Underdark. Unfortunatly we have 0 info on grey dragons and that is the end of the previews. Oh well. -=Edit: I just added Baphomet to the Manual of the Planes entry as he will apparently appear there(likely with full stats).=- -=Edit2: I just realized I forgot to list the Martial Power racial feats from the preview article last week. That has now been fixed.=- |
| #115Bargle0Nov 11, 2008 18:11:41 | I just saw this over in the Character Builder beta test forum: Unlock the POWER of your character sheet! Someone noticed that the two of the associates listed on the second page are a "Deva Invoker" and a "Deva Avenger", respectively. |
| #116JohnLynchNov 11, 2008 18:21:04 | Someone noticed that the two of the associates listed on the second page are a "Deva Invoker" and a "Deva Avenger", respectively. Could it be the "T" class has been changed to an A class? |
| #117ranadielNov 11, 2008 18:33:13 | I just saw this over in the Character Builder beta test forum: Hmmm well I can definatly add Invoker and Avenger to the list of classes(I'll go straight to it after I finish this post. I'm not going to put them under PHBII though since there is no solid evidence that they will be in PHBII. Of course considering the timing, it is likely way to early for them to have any non-PHBII/EPG classes ready for play just yet. Could it be the "T" class has been changed to an A class? It certainly looks like it. Dang it, I've known for about half a month that I was going to be Invoker, but I kept on hoping I would be proven wrong. Everything considered though, I guess I just have to accept facts. However I have to say that Avenger actually manages to make Invoker sound like a good name to me.....and that is not a good sign IMO. |
| #118captainswiftNov 12, 2008 0:57:43 | Finally! The 4e Avengers everyone's been talking about. |
| #119ranadielNov 14, 2008 6:25:38 | New update which basically konsists of kobolds and nothing else. I was really hoping for Gray dragons to be in today's update. Oh well, we can't have earth shattering news everyday I suppose. *sigh* |
| #120theblackwingNov 14, 2008 11:15:39 | Well I can tell you from just looking at the picture gallery they put up today, that our new 4E Purple Dragons (1, 2) and Grey Dragons (1, 2) were based on the Deep Dragons and Fang Dragons of the 3E Monsters of Faerun book. |
| #121the_storytellerNov 15, 2008 17:48:44 | Hey Ranadiel! I have two new names for your Unsorted Stuff. Give a look at the page 14 of the Races and Classes preview book. There is an entry called “Power Sources” written by Mike Mearls and at the end of this text he mentions the Hexblade and the Wu Jen as having different and new power sources. In his words (pg 15 from Races and Classes): “A class like the wu jen or the hexblade might use a completely new and different type of magic, allowing us to reinvent the ground rules rather than use what has come before. Since those clearly use magic in a different manner when compared to a wizard, we shelve them under a new power source, build a system of magic that works for their needs, and create spells tuned to them rather them simple use the 3E wizard/sorcerer spell list.” With all the info we already have at this point (in part thanks to you) we can say that hexblade will be a shadow class and the wu jen will be a elemental class. I’m happy to contribute. This thread is the best of all the dnd forum imo. You are great. Thank you. (Sorry for any grammatical errors. English is not my primary language) |
| #122ranadielNov 15, 2008 17:58:18 | Since I'm lazy, I've decided no more Draconomicon or Martial Power stuff since people are starting to get the books in numbers higher than ten and it is only a few days till they come out.Hey Ranadiel! Alright, I'll go ahead and list both as having been mentioned in Races and Classes, but I'm going to have to resist to putting a power source with either since that is solely speculation at this point(even if I agree with it). |
| #123canoerNov 16, 2008 23:28:26 | how about adding some of the confirmed races for eborron like the shifters and the warforged |
| #124ranadielNov 17, 2008 6:29:08 | how about adding some of the confirmed races for eborron like the shifters and the warforged Shifters are under PHBII and Warforged haven't been confirmed by any source that I know of. So unless you have a new source to link me to, the guide is complete as far as Warforged and Shifters are concerned. |
| #125snarls_at_fleasNov 19, 2008 0:19:42 | ...the still-in-design Dungeon Master's Guide 2 will have a nifty new tool I can use to help me flesh out more of these cultists for my game. Source So DMG2 is confirmed. |
| #126ranadielNov 19, 2008 6:45:46 | Removed Draconomicon and Martial Power from the list and moving them to the info dump.Source DMGII has been confirmed for two weeks already, hence why it was on the list. Try to keep up man.:P |
| #127snarls_at_fleasNov 19, 2008 14:19:42 | Removed Draconomicon and Martial Power from the list and moving them to the info dump. The main purpose of my post was not the confirmation (which I really have misses), but that small snippet of info. |
| #128doctorhookNov 20, 2008 20:18:25 | Dragonlance hasn't been confirmed for 2010, has it Ranadiel? Because I just edited a Wikipedia article that was claiming it was. (No, it didn't cite a source.) |
| #129ranadielNov 20, 2008 20:23:08 | Dragonlance hasn't been confirmed for 2010, has it Ranadiel? Because I just edited a Wikipedia article that was claiming it was. (No, it didn't cite a source.) No hard evidence that I've come by. About the extent ofinfo that points to it is a WotC employee(I want to say in marketing) saying that it was a core brand and would be supported(although he didn't mention what type of support or when) and some random guy on the internet saying that he had a secret source confirming Dragonlance was being worked on.....or something like that. I gave that second incident about half a second of attention before I stopped caring. *shrugs* |

I gave that second incident about half a second of attention before I stopped caring. *shrugs* I didn't even hear about that second one. :P Suffice to say, you're probably right. I imagine that the "secret source" is the same one used by that fellow who claimed he was a member of the development team and that the Barbarian would be a Primal Defender, one day before the playtest came out: his imagination. EDIT: Oh, and BTW, I posted a link to this thread for some folks discussing the Druid over at ENWorld. You're the go-to man for compiled release info, as far as I'm concerned! |
| #131ranadielNov 20, 2008 21:15:58 | I didn't even hear about that second one. :P The second one happened around the time of one of the cons, I forgot which one. The person apparently is a well respected member at one of the Dragonlance sites as far as I can tell. According to the story, he talked with a developer during the con and wasn't allowed to disclose which developer. *shrugs* And I remember that guy. His developer friend forgot to mention Avenger to him.:D And excellent I'm one step closer to world domination then! ![]() On an unrelated note, how much longer must we wait until someone posts the text for the WotC catalogue?! Supposedly it is already out if a poster on another board is to believed. I want to hurry up and see what is in it! ![]() |

On another unrelated note, how much longer must I wait until someone with access to the 4E Deluxe Monster Manual confirms whether or not it includes five monster creation rituals that didn't make it into the June release? |
| #133ranadielNov 21, 2008 6:28:30 | Added Astral Dreadnought under Manual of the Planes. I don't know what their old fluff was, but I really like the current fluff for them. And next month looks to be busy with four new playtests. x_x |
| #134FriendlyBiscuitNov 21, 2008 8:39:09 | Any info about dark sun? |
| #135FriendlyBiscuitNov 21, 2008 8:48:16 | Oh wait, I have one bookmarked! http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1022209 http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.frp.dnd/browse_thread/thread/9ef8a7cc8659ba2e "Oh and by the way, Greyhawk, Ravenloft and Dark Sun are definately getting 4e campaigns down the line as well as Planescape and Spelljammer (which they just started working out)." That one's a bit of a secondhand source... is there any other info that the OP or other posters are aware of? |
| #136paideiaNov 21, 2008 13:13:42 | A playtest of the invoker class will be released in December. No news, but at least a second source for the class. I guess you could speculate that this makes it very likely to end up in PHB2, but as I said, nothing certain yet. |
| #137doctorhookNov 22, 2008 17:40:58 | I'm not an ENWorld supporter, so I can't just PM the guy (IIRC), but I'll trying to XP the guy who posted the last one, and hopefully he'll post the most recent one! UPDATE: Ranadiel, you will find this interesting. I have no idea if this was done on account of my XPing him, but today thalmin posted the the WotC Summer 2009 Catalog on ENWorld. Among other things, it confirms that Avengers and Invokers will have additional options in Divine Power. I dare say you owe me one now, bro! ;) |

Among other things, it confirms that Avengers and Invokers will have additional options in Divine Power. Unfortunatly for you you, it seems he did it in response to this thread that I started. So I owe you nothing!:P Incidently that thread also confirms that I am reaching rock star status on D&D forums!:D :P Anyways, updates are complete. MMII, ECG, EPG, Divine Power, AVII, Avenger, and Invoker all got new info. |

| #142lucasa78Nov 23, 2008 19:09:45 | hey Ranadiel! Thank you for making this thread, its awesome. Looking at the thread, I noticed that you did not have release dates for the books, and trying to be helpful I collected all the release dates I could find. Most of them are from amazon, but what they did not have I found here. (Which I also found through this thread) Manual of the Planes - December 16th Open Grave - January 20th Dungeon Delve - February 17th Players Handbook II - March 17th Arcane Power - April 21st Monster Manual II - May 19th Dungeon Annual 2009 - May 19th Eberron Campaign Guide - June 16th Eberron Player’s Guide - July 21st Divine Power - July 21st Adventurer's Vault II - august 18th Dragon Magazine Annual 2009 - September Dungeon Master's Guide II - September I hope that helps! oh! and in the Ravenloft section- -Domains of Dread will appear in an October Dragon article is a little past its release. |
| #143ranadielNov 23, 2008 20:00:55 | hey Ranadiel! I intentionally leave out release dates as there is another thread that already handles those(besides the entries are in release order). And I don't have time for it now, but I'll get around to the Ravenloft thing soon. |

And I don't have time for it now, but I'll get around to the Ravenloft thing soon. Ah, well I didn't know that you purposely left out the release dates, but at least I was able to help somehow. I'll keep an eye out for any new info, just listened to the podcast and they were careful to not reveal anything. apparently they were getting in trouble for it. :D |
| #145ranadielNov 24, 2008 6:39:50 | I moved the October Ravenloft thing to the infodump. I added an entry about the Paladin's mount, from the podcast, under unsorted. I added today's excert from Manual of the Planes. I also added some info from the podcast regarding the content of the PHBII. Nothing particularly exciting except for the fact that we can finally put to rest the idea that some people have of the combat rules being reprinted in future PHBs. Oh and I guess we can finally see the Domains of Dread entry from the Manual fo the Planes, although there isn't anything particularly new there. |
| #146enigmashockNov 24, 2008 11:55:52 | I am sure you saw the editorial calendar. Druid playtest next monday! Yay! /just had to say it somewhere! |
| #147enigmashockNov 26, 2008 11:19:27 | . . .and the Invoker the Monday after that! (never studied) |
| #148doctorhookNov 30, 2008 23:53:19 | R-man: Druid is confirmed as a Primal Controller! Both builds use weather-magic and wild shape, although one build is more Controller/Leader while the other is Controller/Striker. (Hybridism definitely doesn't appear to go beyond what we already saw in PH1 with the Paladin as a Defender/Leader, for example.) Both builds use Wisdom, and the secondary stats are Constitution and Dexterity, respectively. Check it out bro, it's cool! ![]() |
| #149ranadielDec 01, 2008 5:32:23 | Updated PHB2 classes, moving all of them to their appropriate locations since we now have confirmation on all 8......now if only we could get Deva confirmation. Added Druid info from the preview. City of Brass added under Manual of the Planes. Reworded the Greyhawk and Dragonlance entries and added a Spelljammers entry.R-man: Druid is confirmed as a Primal Controller! You know, you don't need to point out playtests or previews on the main site. I check them as one of the first things I do every morning. I'm just not up at midnight to read them as they are posted.:P |
| #150joydyheeDec 01, 2008 13:38:42 | Randaliel, I am not sure if you saw, but Primal Power is now in the product catalog here along with some other items due out in October 2009. There is no information yet, so I am not sure you would include it on your list. Speaking of which, do you (or does anyone) know why the online product catalog does not have any descriptions? I can understand not having cover shots as those may be in production, but descriptions should be fairly forthcoming, especially for those products out in Q1. I do also have one request for you: would you be willing to put a "Last updated" comment in the OP (preferably near the top) so when we jump into this forum we can see if you updated the list without having to scroll through the posts? Thanks! -=j=- |

| #152Luca_The_ObfuscatedDec 02, 2008 5:30:11 | So the Avenger is the 8th missing class! :D What about the "T" in the first letters list?:P ...maybe they intend to call the 2 divine classes "Inquisitor" and "Theurge" then they had a change of mind? |
| #153ranadielDec 02, 2008 6:19:56 | So the Avenger is the 8th missing class! :D Honestly we have no idea what happened, and while we can speculate as much as we want to we'll likely never get an answer as to what happened to the T class. *shrugs* |
| #154lucasa78Dec 02, 2008 16:53:15 | Honestly we have no idea what happened, and while we can speculate as much as we want to we'll likely never get an answer as to what happened to the T class. *shrugs* It might have been a mistake, a red herring, or change in plans. We may never find out. Personally, I'm fine with it, Avenger sounds awesome. Divine striker, I hope. |

| #156batshidoDec 04, 2008 10:12:25 | So, dumb question probably already covered; Is Manual of the Planes a DM book or an unholy hybrid of DM and Player material like it was in 3E? I ask because I'm putting together a Christmas list and it's the only thing I have yet to preorder that drops before the 25th. :P |
| #157lucasa78Dec 04, 2008 16:45:45 | So, dumb question probably already covered; Well it seems that it might be, given this source. Currently, I’m focused on editing the paragon paths, rituals, and magic items. I thought they were going to keep them separate, but after looking at that I am not sure any more. If those and the new race are the only player options, you don't have to let the players get their hands on it. Its also possible that these are not going to be in the book, but in a Dragon magazine supplement. Does anyone have a guess as to what the new race might be? |
| #158doctorhookDec 04, 2008 19:03:47 | Well it seems that it might be, given this source. In MotP? I heard it's Bladelings, which is a big upset, because I think everybody (myself included) expected the NPC race to be Deva. |
| #159wizardmonDec 04, 2008 19:05:39 | In MotP? I heard it's Bladelings, which is a big upset, because I think everybody (myself included) expected the NPC race to be Deva. I heard over the net itds Bladelings too. I'm not upset, or suprised. I had anticipated it WOULD be a planar race, and not a player race! |
| #160doctorhookDec 04, 2008 19:27:00 | I heard over the net itds Bladelings too. I'm not upset, or suprised. I had anticipated it WOULD be a planar race, and not a player race! Well, I didn't mean it surprises me to eventually see Bladelings, but that it surprises me that the NPC race write-up won't be Devas. I think lots of us were expecting Devas in this book as an NPC race, and then as a PC race in PH2. (That's certainly the impression I got from these boards.) In hindsight, I suppose that guess didn't make much sense; after all, none of the PC races from PH1 also have NPC write-ups in MM1, so why were we expecting WotC to publish an NPC write-up which they would have known would become obsolete a mere three months later? I'll admit, once I heard about Devas and that there would be an NPC race in MotP, I connected those dots without really considering any other options. (FWIW, I had never cared much for Bladelings in the past, nor knew much about any "planar races", other than Tieflings and Aasimars/Devas.) I'm definitely feeling a bit stupid at the moment, because of it. :P |
| #161lucasa78Dec 04, 2008 23:34:03 | Well, I didn't mean it surprises me to eventually see Bladelings, but that it surprises me that the NPC race write-up won't be Devas. Actually it looks like the bladelings are confirmed as a character race: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4ex/20081205 if you look at the table of contents, it has "bladeling characters" in the monster section. i'm not really familiar with bladelings, but I am am excited about having spelljamming vehicles! It seems like there is a moderate sized section with player options, 8 paragon paths, 12 rituals, and 8 pages of new items. |
| #162DiscordianDec 05, 2008 1:57:04 | I suspect those paragon paths, rituals and items will be useful primarily in a plane-hopping campaign, so unless someone expects to be a player in one of those they can safely skip this book. |
| #163joydyheeDec 05, 2008 5:47:15 | but I am am excited about having spelljamming vehicles! I hope the entire Spelljammer campaign is not reduced to a single vehicle entry for crunch and some one-off references (like in the City of Brass preview). If WOTC can do that to Spelljammer, they can do that to any setting. I agree with what people have said about folding it, Planescape, and Ravenloft into the core, potentially with Dragon support, but these settings deserve more than what we see in this preview. Hopefully I will be proven wrong. |
| #164ranadielDec 05, 2008 6:31:56 | Update, hurray! Way too much stuff for me to list in in a sentence. So here are th new entries. PHBII -Primal Avatar Manual of the Planes -Will contain player content, Source -Ritual List -Table of Contents -Bladelings will be the new race, Source -Several items from the book, Source -Will contain stats for Spelljammers, Source Open Grave -Sword of Kas, Source -Undead beholders, Source -Several other artifacts, Source -Ctenmiir |
| #165doctorhookDec 05, 2008 7:29:47 | Actually it looks like the bladelings are confirmed as a character race: What I read was that Bladelings are presented as an NPC race in the monster section of the book, but are accompanied by a sidebar about playing a Bladeling PC, including a feat. I assume that the sidebar is what is listed in the table of contents. |

You are forgiven my child. But let this not happen again.:P |
| #174lucasa78Dec 08, 2008 20:36:27 | You are forgiven my child. But let this not happen again.:P ...lolwut? I'm not sure your power has grown that much Ranadiel... but I suppose you can still dream. :D Unrelated to the previous statement, but it occurs to me that if WOTC continue their current trend of two playtest classes a month, all of the PHB2 classes will be released for playtest before the book is out. Hmm... |
| #175ranadielDec 09, 2008 5:13:33 | ...lolwut? Who cares about my power? It is my ego that has grown. Duh.:P And nothing for PHBII is being Playtested anymore. The Druid was only a three level preview, and the Invoker likely will be the same. |
| #176lucasa78Dec 09, 2008 20:57:11 | Who cares about my power? It is my ego that has grown. Duh.:P and what an ego it is! ;) I just meant that the basic info will was/will be released. To be perfectly honest, they would not release information about the classes unless they were hoping for feedback. Since the PHB2 is still about 3 months away, they are probably not releasing the info to increase hype, for all we know they are not certain about the classes and are letting the fans give it a try to see if it works. I.E. they are not playtesting the entire class (with all of its powers up to 30), just the core concept (which works with levels 1-3). and now I am rambling. sorry. two last month, two this month, just noticing a pattern. |
| #177doctorhookDec 09, 2008 23:21:28 | I know you hate it when I post things you would have seen on your own, R, so here's another one: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1122943 :P Cool huh? |
| #178ranadielDec 10, 2008 6:00:57 | Breaking news(that is two days old), all setting to use core cosmology! Film at 11(of last monday). Invoker to be divine controller, shocking revelation makes everyone in country shrug! Summoning to be reintroduced through Invoker, demons rejoice over having less work! Increasing numbers of adventurers are getting tatoos, a sign of the moral decline of out country? Scandal arises as D&D developers are revealed to have no art skill what so ever! Also check out my cool new snowglobe! It has a dragon skull in it!*vanishes*and what an ego it is! ;) My ego is the biggest ego there is!.....Did I mention that my ego has developed its own ego?:D And they aren't playtests at all. These info releases are just to up the hype. If they wanted to just test the concept, then they missed that boat a year ago when they sunk around a year of time into developing them into full blown classes. The point of a playtest is to get feedback on whatever is being playtested in order to make the final product better. As the books are likely currently in the final stages of production(formatting/layout) or only a couple of weeks off from being there. There is no time for any chages to be made, so these are not accomplishing the primary goal of playtesting, and therefore cannot be playtests. I know you hate it when I post things you would have seen on your own, R, so here's another one: Your antics do not amuse me minion. You should tread carefully, unless you wish to displease me. Although the sharks are getting quite hungry I suppose, so feel free to continue down this path if you desire to be the one to rectify this personally.:P |
| #179ausolionDec 10, 2008 17:49:13 | This is WAY off topic, but I have a question. It says that a wizard can have two daily powers and two utility powers of each level, but at later levels(5 and on) does he still have to prepare one of each level? or, since he can prepare two daily spells a day at fifth level and has two 5th lvl daily spells and two of first lvl, can he choose to prepare the two 5th level spells and forego the 1st levek spells? The spellbook descrition on pg 158 of ph does not say whether or not you can prepare two spells of the same level, only that they can't be the same. I'm sure you can prepare two 1st lvl spells instead, don't see why not. Does anyone have the answer to this question with a source for proof? |
| #180enigmashockDec 10, 2008 18:20:00 | No. On page 158 it clearly reads: "spells or utility spells of that level to add to your book. After an extended rest, you can prepare a number ofdaily and utility spells according to what you can cast per day for your level. You can’t prepare the same spell twice." The only way you can KIND of fiddle with this is by sacrificing a higher-level power to prepare 2 of the same level. So let's say you really want Flaming Sphere AND Acid Arrow. You can use one of your level-5 Daily spellbook slots to put Flaming Sphere in. It is essentially a retrain (unless you have the forethought to do it from the start) and it is allowed by the following passage from page 28 (I think). "Power: You can replace a power with another power of the same type (at-will attack power, encounter attack power, daily attack power, or utility power), of the same level or lower, and from the same class—a 5th-level attack power for another 5th-level attack power, for example, or a 22nd-level utility power for a different 22nd-level utility power." I would look in the "Controllers" section of the forum for Wizzy pros. |
| #181ausolionDec 10, 2008 18:27:55 | No. On page 158 it clearly reads: |
| #182enigmashockDec 10, 2008 18:48:28 | Well, the "prepare a number of daily and utility spells according to what you can cast per day for your level" part of it is pretty self-explanitory. Page 28, the book defines how daily and utility powers are leveled. Once they are defined the previous pp158 quote is also defined: "Daily Attack Powers: At 1st level, choose one power from the list of 1st-level daily attack powers in your class description. You learn a new daily attack power of your level or lower at 5th level and again at 9th level. At 20th level, you learn a new daily power, determined by your paragon path. At 15th, 19th, 25th, and 29th levels, you can replace any daily attack power you know from your class with a new daily attack power of your new level (or a daily attack power of a lower level, if you choose). Utility Powers: At 2nd level, choose one utilitypower from the list of 2nd-level utility powers in yourclass description. You learn a new power chosen from the list of utility powers of your level (or a utility power of a lower level, if you choose) at 6th level and again at 10th, 16th, and 22nd levels. At 12th level, you learn a new utility power determined by your paragon path. At 26th level, you learn a new utility power from your epic destiny." |
| #183ausolionDec 10, 2008 18:51:42 | It still says nothing about preparing them, only choosing them for your power roster. It does not say that you cannot prepare two of the same level if you have them anywhere in the book. Only what you can choose at each level and not each day. It's not in the revisions either. |
| #184enigmashockDec 10, 2008 19:07:32 | The intent is that after a Wizard has prepared his spells for the day, he is the same as any other character, which means a single daily of 1st, 5th, 9th etc. and a single utility of 2nd, 6th, 10th, etc. The only way to get 2 spells of the same level is to sacrifice a higher level spell slot for it, or if some feat or class ability SPECIFICALLY allows it. Well, I feel I have given it the support it needs and this is not the place to discuss rules mechanics, it's for future releases. |

wow, that was random, post in the right section of the forum! but if you ask me, its whatever you can talk the DM into letting you do. I once had a bard that could cast any bard spell in the PHB (but only the certain number of spells per day according to level, of course). I was prepared for anything. but yeah back on topic... anyone have any hopes/dreams/expectations for the invoker class? (not really the main point of this thread is it? but it keeps the conversation going, if that is alright with Ranadiel.) |
| #187ranadielDec 10, 2008 21:10:38 | if that is alright with Ranadiel.) Get off my lawn you darn whippersnappers!:P Nah I really don't care. I sort of expect the Invoker, now that we know it is a summoning class, to be the sort of person who knows the name(or truename) of every sngle angel in the service of their diety. Basically someone who reaches new levels of devotion to his diety and is frequently on the edge of being psychotic as a result. I also have a feeling that they will get a new implement, but I'm not sure what it would be. |

After reading that, I couldn't help but think of an invoker pulling out a cell phone, calling a celestial, "Hey Frank... Yeah, its me again. We're getting attacked by some hob-gobs... Alright, thanks Frank, see you soon." Basically someone who reaches new levels of devotion to his deity and is frequently on the edge of being psychotic as a result. I also have a feeling that they will get a new implement, but I'm not sure what it would be. someone who could call upon celestial servants of his deity would certainly have a high standing in his church. I can't really think of anything that a Divine character would use as an implement other than a holy symbol... other than the above mentioned "cell phone of celestial calling." >.> <.< its a magic cell phone! \ ^o^ / |

I'm really new to the forums. I apologize ![]() It was just an officially unanswered question and my players wanted me to ask if anyone else knew. No more derailing from me. |
| #190lucasa78Dec 11, 2008 1:04:57 | I'm really new to the forums. I apologize Don' worry about it too much, everyone has to learn sometime. As for DMing, when making calls on the rules sometimes you gotta wing it. In this case giving one character two level five dailies when everyone else only gets one 5th level daily and a 1st level daily is obviously unfair. If the player argues, make him show you in the rules or online where it says one way or the other. "Remember, I'm pulling for ya. We're all in this together." -Red Green Bach to topic, ya? Thoughts on Druid info that has been released? Theories about what Invoker might have/do/be? |
| #191ausolionDec 11, 2008 2:50:43 | Don' worry about it too much, everyone has to learn sometime. They were mostly asking about switching out higher levels for lower levels which is classic wizard that I encourage, but they all asked about having two of the highest level though, and said they would be ok with it ad actually want it, not me personally. I am really excited for the druid. They definitely didn't disappoint me. The extra at-will power for the beast form was a cool idea. Druid exceeded my expectations. It's already been announced the invoker is a controllwer who can summon. I wonder how they'll make summoning different from the beastmaster and some of the wizards spells, like flaming sphere, to maintain the normal alloted actions per turn. |
| #192ranadielDec 11, 2008 6:13:34 | someone who could call upon celestial servants of his deity would certainly have a high standing in his church. I can't really think of anything that a Divine character would use as an implement other than a holy symbol... other than the above mentioned "cell phone of celestial calling." Actually, I don't think the invokers are going to be high ranking members of the church. My view of the PHBII stuff is that all the classes and races are those that exist on the edge of society for some reason or another. I sort of see Invokers as being recluses that no one in the church wants to deal with and who is perfectly fine with that since it gives him more time to devote to his studies. And what I was thinking of for an alternate Invoker implement was a book. Specifically books which listed the names of many many many celestial beings. I'm not sure what you would call those though.....magic phonebook?:D |
| #193DiscordianDec 11, 2008 7:09:04 | I doubt they'll nail down the Invoker as either high in church hierarchy or outside it. I think they've done a great job in 4th to leave that sort of thing fairly open. |

I sort of see Invokers as being recluses that no one in the church wants to deal with and who is perfectly fine with that since it gives him more time to devote to his studies. That just made my day XD Thats a good point, maybe the fluff will be that of a shamanish tribe leader who calls things to show his power/get advice from. or maybe a religious nut that would rather not just hang out with the other mortals, he rolls with a different crowd. Its also possible that his calling of angels and the like shows up the religious leaders, so they send him out on missions, hence why he is an adventurer. ...is that the correct usage of hence? maybe they will bring back tomes in arcane power? hmm... Now that I think about it, all of them would fit in the "on the edge of society" typecast, but the bard is probably the closest to an exception, by his nature he needs people to listen to him.... At least I think so... i wonder what they are going to have for bard in arcane power...? |
| #201johnthedm7000Dec 11, 2008 18:48:44 | Am I the only one who thinks that it would be awesome for the invoker to have holy symbols, seals (along the lines of the famous seals of Solomon), as it's implements of choice? That way you could have an invoker that calls upon the power of his deity to call upon creatures using a holy symbol, or you could have who uses his knowledge of the sacred names of the deities to invoke their power, much like the 3.5 archivist who used his knowledge of the divine to cast spells rather than his faith. |

Anyways, I added a link for today's Open Grave update. I added the god parts from the Invoker preview(although most of that was already known). however the Deva got some nice updates from the article. The Deva is mentioned in the PHBII, and I have a feeling that the purple guy in the armor is a Deva. | #214doctorhookDec 15, 2008 15:33:46 | Good call on the picture, R; I combed through this article yesterday, and yet it didn't even occur to me to look closely at the picture. Deva? Could be, I guess. It does sorta have the bluish/purplish skin thing going on for it, though I would have imagined it with more subtle facial features. (Then again, I suppose it doesn't have to be an Angel, exactly; just "Angel-ish".) As for the wings, they definitely look to be mechanical or metallic, rather than flesh'n'bone; what's up with that? Incidentally, did anyone else notice that he's clearly a follower of Moradin? |

For those unfamiliar with the whispered one, here's a brief bio From Oerth (Greyhawk), ruled an empire for ages centuries ago was thought to be destroyed, actually became a demigod his cult was underground for centuries until the events of the adventure Vecna Lives, in which he attempted to become a greater god but was thwarted by the players, and is trapped within the domains of dread (Ravenloft Campaign Setting) within the deep ethereal he plots his escape, and in one plan to undo the locks on his dimensional prison he tries to be reincarnated in the events of vecna reborn, but is thwarted again by players the demigod Iuz from Oerth (Greyhawk) gets ahold of the hand and eye of vecna, and tries to use them in increase his power. instead, vecna is finally able to escape the domains of dread (Ravenloft) by possessing the demigod Iuz. In combining their power, he becomes a greater god and is able to enter Sigil (Planescape), the only god to be able to do so without being immediately eradicated by the Lady of Pain (he didn't become the god of secrets by knowing your website browser history). Ultimately he fails, either through the PCs or the Lady of Pain herself, Iuz is restored to Greyhawk as a demigod, Vecna becomes a lesser god and his alignment shifts from lawful evil to neutral evil (and all the differences between 2nd and 3rd ed are explained) While in Ravenloft, Vecna made, for one of my campaigns, the greatest arch villian i ever used, because as the god of secrets and having the stated goal of escape (and becoming the one and only god), I could reasonably orchestrate through his cult a lot of behind the scenes action that only made sense later in the campaign, but at the time seemed reasonable on its own as unconnected events. he could manipulate these events throughout the multiverse using his followers and promising power to nonbelievers, and thus, while a campaign seems to be on the players own initiative, it was in fact his grand scheme all along revealed as a bid for his escape/apotheosis. He is the ultimate schemer, and even as a lesser god he can still be used as an adversary for the PCs, albeit in a campaign of grander level than a ravenloft one, BUT from what I heard wizards of the coast is not taking that direction. instead they are making his cultists silly and nonthreatening, and most importantly of all, obvious. So many times people expected to see a cleric of his wielding a holy symbol of vecna, and if they didn't see that they assumed the cleric was trustworthy. i made it so that their holy symbols were cloaked in illusions, and with the new rules on holy symbols in 4e, that's greater opportunity for misdirection, not to mention the fact you don't have to be a cleric to be a follower of vecna. i mean, just look at the hand in fourth edition. rather than get possessed by vecna, the hand tries to "throttle" your allies, and that's only if vecna is displeased with you. so yeah, just asking, what's the deal with Vecna now? |
| #219ranadielDec 19, 2008 14:10:19 | Oops, I forgot to mention that I added the new excert from Open Grave today. Also I moved Manual of the Planes to the info dump.I assume you saw the editorial calendar for January. Yeah I saw that, but I've decided to stop putting in dates for when info will be coming out because it doesn't really add anything to the list....plus it adds double the work as I am supposed to remember to remove it when it comes out.:P so yeah, just asking, what's the deal with Vecna now? I dunno, and that is sort of outside the scope of this thread. However as I am a nice guy, or I am perpetually under the effects of truth serum (I think it is the latter), I will answer anyways. Vecna's whole past that you described there didn't happen in the Core 4ed world. All we know about him now is that he was a mortal that became a lich who then ascended to godhood. You'll be able to get a much better understanding of his present state in Open Grave which will stat him out and likely include some of his history also. If you wish to discuss him further, then I would reccomend that you start a thread to discuss him in. |
| #220lucasa78Dec 19, 2008 17:01:59 | For those unfamiliar with the whispered one, here's a brief bio wow, I had no idea that vecna had such a complex back story. well, its back story to me, it was story for you. hopefully they keep all of that, it is actually very interesting. is there anywhere online that has the histories for iconic characters like that? *goes to check wikipedia* edit: er... has anyone else noticed that in the monster manual (and the draconomicon: chromatic) it lists five different types of dragons (Chromatic, catastrophic, Metallic, planar, and scourge) . Does that mean that there will be five draconomicons? er.. wait, planar dragons are in the chromatic's draconomicon... well there goes that theory... with three types of dragons in this one: chromatic, planar and undead, maybe there will be three in the next: metallic, catastrophic, and scourge? 4e: watch the patterns. |
| #221RichmudDec 20, 2008 12:36:57 | edit: All the planar dragons in the chromatic draconomicon are based off of chromatic dragons, so I suspect the metallic draconomicon will also have metallic based planar dragon and the pattern will continue if the catastrophics scourges get there own books |
| #222doctorhookDec 20, 2008 20:43:29 | All the planar dragons in the chromatic draconomicon are based off of chromatic dragons, so I suspect the metallic draconomicon will also have metallic based planar dragon and the pattern will continue if the catastrophics scourges get there own books Well, I'd say most rather than all, but otherwise, I completely agree with you. After all, the full title of the current Draconomicon is "Draconomicon: Chromatic Dragons", not "Draconomicon: Chromatic, Planar, and Undead Dragons". "Planar" and "Undead" seem to be broader categories than Chromatic and Metallic. I don't think for even a second that we've seen all of the Planar and Undead Dragons 4E will offer us. |

| #224doctorhookDec 22, 2008 10:19:14 | Added today's preview. Honestly it looked boring to me so I skipped reading it, but the artwork is cool!:D Boring?! Well, okay, from a "Ranadiel", "doctorhook", and "Future Releases board speculation-game" perspective, it was boring, in that it's not got any (obvious) juicy spoilers. Interesting article, just no spoilers. |
| #225ranadielDec 22, 2008 10:22:45 | Boring?! Well, okay, from a "Ranadiel", "doctorhook", and "Future Releases board speculation-game" perspective, it was boring, in that it's not got any (obvious) juicy spoilers. Well from what I could tell, it was about running a campaign based on fighting undead. Honestly I find undead boring, so an excert about how to make them into the big bads doesn't interest me. *shrugs* |
| #226Ragnar_LodbrokDec 22, 2008 13:07:53 | Hey, Ranadiel, I just noticed that you put barbarians as getting holy symbols, which is untrue. |

All he needs is his awesome title to conquer all! And I have now decided that his sidekick is the Brain in a Jar. :D |
| #233doctorhookDec 28, 2008 4:45:13 | Hey R, I was just reading through my copy of MotP, when I read about something that I don't believe I've seen anyone mention yet: Illumians in 4E. (They appeared in Races of Destiny in 3.5E.) On page 108, there's a block about them and how they relate to the Astral Dominion of Shom. The gist of it is that Illumians were a race of mortals, similar to humans (perhaps even human originally), who were blessed by Ioun to each carry two syllables of the Words of Creation. The Illumians were an enlightened bunch who created Shom as a sanctuary for their race to study and learn in peace. Eventually, however, the Illumians of Shom began to divide themselves up into factions based upon the syllables of creation carried by each groups' members. They became suspicious and paranoid, until eventually open conflict came about, in which most Illumians were killed. The last surviving faction was not enough to sustain the Illumian civilization, and so the Illumians of Shom died out, which is why Shom is now basically empty, despite being a desert paradise. Long story short, Ioun is sad that they're gone because no other mortal race had accumulated so much knowledge. The blurb closes with the suggestion that a small number of Illumians might still exist somewhere. Yeah, I know, it's not the most substantive thing, but it's something. - Dr Hook |
| #234ranadielDec 28, 2008 5:33:54 | I know that it is there, but it really doesn't confirm much of anything. Really it just seems to me like an explanation as to what happened to them for those that had them in a game that they converted and to show that they hadn't completely forgotten about them. However at the same time, it is only really a confirmation that they may someday release them.....which, while better that is a better chance than I figured they had, is really no confirmation of anything. |

| #237ranadielDec 28, 2008 20:31:48 | Bleh, the only reason I have the Sha'ir entry in there is because I know that I will never be able to remember where that was if I remove it. However if it will get you guys to stop whining in my thread, I'll go ahead and add the Illumian mention. |

I don't think that the sha'ir got that much. but it doesn't really matter since you put it up already. hmm... since they put bladelings in MotP, I wonder what other books will have races in them? If there will be, it may be a while before that book comes out. |

Personally, I'd prefer if they didn't make a habit of it. |

Ah... I keep forgetting about that... I tend to look at them as playable races. Options, should you be able to talk the GM into it. Because of that, i am looking forward to the monster manual, if not for new monsters to throw at my players, but for new monster races to play around with, not that I will ever use them. here's hoping for kenku! |
| #242joydyheeDec 30, 2008 8:39:54 | Did we all see the newest addition to the Draconomicon series? Draconomicon 2: Metallic Dragons is out 11/2009. Same price and page count, at least for now. Is it too much to hope that after the new year they will populate the catalog with some descriptions? |

| #245joydyheeJan 03, 2009 14:27:42 | Interesting. I notice there is no such similar review for the MM2 or the PH2. that makes me wonder where the DMG2 info came from (officially). Any thoughts? |

Amazon is not the most consistent source of information. For example, it was still taking preorders of the "D&D Icons: Gargantuan Orcus" two weeks prior to its planned release, despite the fact that this product had been cancelled almost a year earlier. It might not be perfect, but it looks reliable enough for me to believe that at least at some stage of development this was what was supposed to be in the DMGII. Now how accurate it will be when the final book is out, we'll just have to wait and see. |

It's not that I think Amazon has incorrect info (except in its user reviews, am I right? :D) but that it's inconsistent about updating product descriptions, for whatever reason. The stuff they post is usually as good as you'd get from the manufacturer (because it usually is), but it's often not up-to-date. |

(my 2º contribution) Raptorans in 4e are simply winged elves with fly 6. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4hook/20090114 (see War of the Flyers - Story elements) I'm not a fan of raptorans, so know in 4e I see them more as monsters (like the ones described in this article) than as a overpowered race (a core race with fly movement). |

You might even have that choice sooner, if your DM allows you to use the rules for playing warforged released in Dragon #364. Likewise, with the release of the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, you have the choice of choosing a genasi as a character. ...Of course, I think they goofed and misspoke: Genasi (and presumably Warforged) appear in their setting's Player's Guide, not the Campaign Guide. Consider this a teabagging to everyone who said Warforged wouldn't be in EPG. (Now all I need is Kalashtar to get confirmed!) |

This list excludes adventures due to a combination of factors including them just having no interesting info about them leaked prior to release that people will argue about. Dungeon Delve is a collection of a bunch of mini adventures. So therefore it is disqualified from the list. |

It's been in WotC's interests to spoil the classes themselves, because if they don't it's inevitable that someone else will, either a pirate or a store owner, or just somebody lucky enough to find a copy of the book a month early. I think there's a good chance of an Avenger excerpt. (65% chance.) |
| #285lucasa78Jan 27, 2009 13:19:47 | Why wouldn't they excerpt a race? And usually they don't give us much heads up about what each excerpt will be about. reason behind the no race excerpt theory: they usually give just a little bit of info (i.e. the first three levels of powers) but the races have little crunch they could give away without giving away the whole thing. so if they do give any info about races it would more likely be just fluff stuff. as for avenger, i think its just about a sure thing that they are gonna release the preview early march, as a sort of "best for last." cause lets be honest, who doesn't want to be a holy avenger? they release it just before the release of the book to get a little bit more interest in the product. oh! they could also excerpt paragon paths and epic destinies! hmm... what else...? Edit: and it just occurred to me: are there gonna be new monsters in dungeon delve? |
| #286ranadielJan 27, 2009 16:37:31 | Edit: Probably. I mean there are new monsters in all of the adventures I believe. If nothing else, there will most certainly be either new monster variants or reprints of all the monsters used(or so I would think). |

He was speculating that it was going to be a race in the Player's handbook 2, although probably not the case, do you think it deserves a place on the list for being mentioned in the FRPG? maybe a future race? |

Shades are represented by a template in the FRCS. Beyond that, they aren't truly a distinct race, so much as "shadow humans", folks born as humans who are empowered by shadow, IIRC. |

| #291doctorhookJan 29, 2009 0:17:47 | oh... whoops... lol No worries, Lucas. Just wait, shortly someone who knows more about the Realms than I do (which is probably a heck of a lot of people) will come along and correct me. FWIW, I do recall seeing folks mention that shades have a special relationship with shadar-kai; either that shadar-kai are a kind of "super-shade", or that shadar-kai simply were shades, and vice versa. Thus if one wanted to make a shade PC, shadar-kai stats would probably be perfectly fine. (Like I said above, it's only a matter of time before someone comes along who is more knowledgeable than I am about Netheril and shades and whatever else in FR, and corrects all this. :P) |
| #292Chiba_MonkeyJan 29, 2009 5:14:00 | If the OP is still updating the first post, then why does the class list for the PHB2 still include a class starting with the letter "T"? And no letter "A" for the Avenger? I thought that we had confirmation on all classes for the PHB and ther was no class with T? |
| #293ranadielJan 29, 2009 6:26:15 | If the OP is still updating the first post, then why does the class list for the PHB2 still include a class starting with the letter "T"? And no letter "A" for the Avenger? Because this is a link of sources to make referencing stuff that has been confirmed in discussions easier. As the link you are referring to was never updated to change that, the desciption of the info in the link remains the same. I suppose I could add another link to where ever the avenger was confirmed saying, no "t" class but an "a" class instead. However there is already a section on the avenger, so I'll just consider that to be the correction. |

The information trail keeps people from getting lost, or constantly reposting invalidated spoilers. |
| #295BelorinJan 30, 2009 7:40:47 | Some tidbits from DDXP 2 - Mike Mearls and Chris Tulach giving an overview of the 2009 product line up. 1) Arcane Power will contain Familiar rules and support both the swordmage and sorcerer, but not artificer. 2) Divine Power will contain Domain rules for customizing divine classes. 3) Primal Power will explain the way the primal source differs from divine and arcane power sources. 4) The December product will be the Plane Below and focus on the Elemental Chaos and locations therein. 5) DMG 2 will be paragon tier oriented. Also discussed are the various minis and power card packs. Radio Free Hommlet DDXP 2 Bel |
| #296BolongoJan 30, 2009 9:37:23 | Some tidbits from DDXP 2 - Mike Mearls and Chris Tulach giving an overview of the 2009 product line up. Here's some more, for those who don't want to listen to the whole thing or don't have good audio. (One guy is talking really fast and slurring or stumbling over a lot of words, the other guy is speaking very quietly in the background.) * The PC mini packs will contain new power cards. These will also be available through DDI. (I assume this means new powers on those cards, but they didn't actually say that, just "power cards".) * In E2 you get to fight Doresain. (Yeah, I know, big surprise huh, but it's a confirmation anyway.) * Adventurer's Vault 2 will contain item sets. (More fuel for the "D&D is just like WoW now!" fire....) * Revenge of the Giants is no longer a boxed set, but will be a hardcover book. * DMG2 will have most of the same chapter headings as the first DMG. * In E3 you fight "the guy on the cover", i.e. Orcus. (Again, not a big leap of deductive reasoning.) * "Everything is core" means everything published gets the same level of support. So for instance a class from a campaign setting book will be featured in the next power book for its source, will get power cards and will get articles in Dragon. |

| #298lucasa78Jan 30, 2009 14:51:33 | A short version of all of today's new updates. you forgot the divine power having domain stuff. and Dr. Hook, i looked it up and shadar-kai are semi-Shade people transformed from humans (the ones that create shades) by the spellplague. they breed true, and all their offspring with normal humans are also shadar-kai (like tieflings), they have a ritual that turns people into shadar-kai, similar to the one they use to make shades. At least, thats what they are in FR. |
| #299doctorhookJan 30, 2009 15:01:26 | Draconomicon 2: Metallic Dragons Interesting... This is a reversal of what we'd been hearing a year ago. (Admittedly, it was about something nearly a year from now, but then again, plans can change.) They'd suggested that Brass and Bronze would be in a Draconomicon product, while Iron and Adamantine had been bumped up to "main-five Metallic Dragons" status. I wonder why the change of mind... Was there that much (beaking) about the idea? EDIT: and Dr. They'd suggested that Brass and Bronze would be in a Draconomicon product, while Iron and Adamantine had been bumped up to "main-five Metallic Dragons" status. They didn't really specify whether the iron or adamantine would be new in the book or appearing like red, black, and blue dragons in Draconomicon I. So they could of just been saving time by grouping all of the traditonal dragons together rather than listing 7 or so dragons at once. |

They'd suggested that Brass and Bronze would be in a Draconomicon product, while Iron and Adamantine had been bumped up to "main-five Metallic Dragons" status. i donno, i'm sure they had their reasons... maybe there will be an explanation when the next monster manual or draconomicon come out. EDIT: as a race, not gonna happen, as you said, it was a template and it requires level 11, I think. the story behind them was that the people that have shades pick their best warriors and do a ritual on them to make them into shades, thus making them even more powerful. it would probably be a fun thing to play, but good luck talking your GM into it. XD
ack! sorry! i swear i checked and did not see it! They didn't really specify whether the iron or adamantine would be new in the book or appearing like red, black, and blue dragons in Draconomicon I. So they could of just been saving time by grouping all of the traditonal dragons together rather than listing 7 or so dragons at once. i'm expecting the "main 5 Metalic dragons" to appear in MM2 and then expanded and joined by lesser metalics and more in Draconomicon 2, just as they did with chromatics in the MM and draconomicon 1. remember: patterns edit: er... wait, it would need more than one example to be a pattern... wouldn't it... preemptive patterns? |
| #302ranadielFeb 01, 2009 7:07:09 | I finally got around to adding the character sheets from the Delve. I still haven't seen one for the Shifter or Druid(I'm assuming they are together). | #303enigmashockFeb 01, 2009 23:22:33 | Lots of new stuff up. The Shaman (of course) but also some smaller tidbits that could be missed, like from Arcane Power: The Summoning Wizard http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dramp/2009Feb |
| #304ranadielFeb 02, 2009 6:40:32 | Updates from Febuary and Beyond, Shaman Preview, and Ampersand have been added. I didn't type them out before hand this time, so you'll have to either check for what is new yourself or check the articles yourself. New entries are under Arcane Power(three sub sections added), ECS, PHBII(general), and Shaman. |
| #305lucasa78Feb 03, 2009 12:46:27 | Has anyone heard anything about the shifters in the PHB2? Are they one of the monstrous races from MM? or both? Or are they something new? gnomes on the other hand are probably going to be the same as1 in the MM... Though I Have to say their new description makes them more tempting to play, though I still probably won't. |
| #306doctorhookFeb 03, 2009 13:18:52 | Has anyone heard anything about the shifters in the PHB2? Presumably, they're similar to the Shifters presented in the MM. (If you didn't know about Shifters, they were one of the four races introduced in 3.5E's Eberron Campaign Setting.) |
| #307lucasa78Feb 03, 2009 20:55:48 | Presumably, they're similar to the Shifters presented in the MM. (If you didn't know about Shifters, they were one of the four races introduced in 3.5E's Eberron Campaign Setting.) then why not just put them into the Ebberon book and put something else into the PHB2? |
| #308ranadielFeb 03, 2009 21:11:00 | then why not just put them into the Ebberon book and put something else into the PHB2? Because they fit well with the primal power source which is being introduced in PHBII? Also they are fairly setting neutral in terms of their orgins. If a world has lycanthropes, then it is easy to add shifters. |
| #309doctorhookFeb 03, 2009 21:30:48 | Because they fit well with the primal power source which is being introduced in PHBII? Also they are fairly setting neutral in terms of their orgins. If a world has lycanthropes, then it is easy to add shifters. Truth. Shifters and Changelings (now called Doppelgangers) are both very easy to fit into any setting. Shifters work for players who wanna play either bestial humanoids or out-and-out lycanthropes, while Changelings/Doppelgangers work for deceptive, master-of-infiltration characters, on account of their ability to change their appearance at will. (However, it's important not to confuse Changeling/Doppelgangers with the more traditional, "eat your loved ones and then impersonate them" doppelgangers.) Both of these races deserve to be core. |

| #312Lord_DarquainFeb 04, 2009 0:39:28 | I don't know. I figure Changeling + something else and I would imagine they'd hold off on Kalashtar until after whatever book introduces psionics to 4e. |
| #313JohnLynchFeb 04, 2009 2:26:30 | Mike Mearls answered my question at the DDXP Products Q&A stating that Artificer is the only new class in EPG Why does the FRPG get 2 new classes but the EPG doesn't? I'd have at least liked a new build for an old class.2 new races will appear. He then referenced the fact that Shifter and Warforged will already be available, so he doesn't mean them. I'm expecting we'll get Kalashtar as I believe Keith Baker has said he's designing the Kalashtar to be able to exist despite the fact there won't be psionic classes out when the Kalashtar are out. I reckon the 2nd race will be doppleganger. |

If a world has lycanthropes, then it is easy to add shifters. ah, it makes sense now... I need to stop talking in this thread, I keep looking like an idiot. I hope others are benefiting from it though. Truth. and further, the point is made obvious. >.< Eberron Player’s Guide: does a write up in Dragon count for the warforged? poor guys got short end of the stick... I don't know. I figure Changeling + something else and I would imagine they'd hold off on Kalashtar until after whatever book introduces psionics to 4e. very likely from what i understand, my predictions: one of the next two PHB will have 4 psionic classes and psionic races, or there will be a psionics supplement late this year/early next year. Why does the FRPG get 2 new classes but the EPG doesn't? well, unless you count the spellscar multiclass option as a new class, or the warlock's dark pact, FRPG only had one new class. I would actually be surprised if they didn't have new options for an old class or two. As to the races, I don't really know that much about Ebberon, but good luck~ phew, finally done... though i suppose i didn't HAVE TO reply to EVERY SINGLE POST |
| #315ranadielFeb 04, 2009 6:45:47 | Eberron Player’s Guide: Well I already knew about there being only one new class from the product description. And while the part about the Warforged is interesting, and would get to mean that I get to yell "I told you so" to several people, we already have confirmation that the Warforged will be printed in an Eberron book. I guess that could mean however that there will be three races in the EPG with two of them being brand new. Thank you for bringing this info, however I'm afraid without a recording of the Q&A I can't put the info up. It isn't that I don't trust you or your info, but I have to maintain rules regarding the info I include and one of them is that I can personally verify the source. Why does the FRPG get 2 new classes but the EPG doesn't? They could still put a new build in there. All we know is that there will be a single completely new class, the Artificer. That still leaves new builds open. We didn't even know about the dark-pact until two months before the FRPG came out. Additionally there will be rules for Dragonmarks, and we don't know how those will work just yet so they might function as multi-class only classes also. |
| #316KoboldAvengerFeb 04, 2009 9:50:58 | Eberron Player’s Guide: There's the reference that the Warforged will be in the Player's Guide. And by "2 new races" it could mean 2 races that haven't got a full writeup yet. |
| #317lucasa78Feb 04, 2009 12:00:10 | Well I already knew about there being only one new class from the product description. its really hard to say how many are going to be in the book until its out, or they specifically tell us what they are. But given what we have heard, and comparing to previous books, although that's not really the purpose of this thread, but lets go anyway! FRPG 2 races - one completely new (genasi), one MM race (Drow) 1 Class - Swordmage 1 class build - warlock's dark pact 2 new multiclass options - Swordmage and "spellscarred" now lets apply this to Ebberon: EPG 2 races - one completely new (Kalashtar?), one MM race (Doppelganger?) 1 Class - Artificer 1 class build - unknown 2 new multiclass options - Artificer and "Dragonmarked" maybe they'll have warforged in there, maybe they wont, only time will tell. I left it out because of the info that the Dragon write up might count as being official into for them. |
| #318Lord_DarquainFeb 04, 2009 12:11:09 | I wouldn't be surprised if EPG included a new Sorceror build given how important dragons are to the world, but Sorceror material in PH2, AP, and EPG each within a few months of one another seems unlikely. A new cleric build would be interesting. Followed by the domains in Divine Power, that could help to set them back up as the Leaders to beat. |
| #319ranadielFeb 04, 2009 12:28:31 | its really hard to say how many are going to be in the book until its out, or they specifically tell us what they are. But given what we have heard, and comparing to previous books, although that's not really the purpose of this thread, but lets go anyway! Nah, we pretty much know for sure that warforged will make it in the EPG thatnks to last month's Orgin Sories article in Dragon. However, with the release of the Eberron Campaign Setting, you’ll have the option of choosing a warforged as a character. You might even have that choice sooner, if your DM allows you to use the rules for playing warforged released in Dragon #364. Likewise, with the release of the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, you have the choice of choosing a genasi as a character. Note that the Genasi was released in the Player's Guide not the Campaign Setting, so it is fairly safe to assume they made the same mistake for the Warforged in that quote. And if you want to make a comparisson between the what we know about the EPG and FRPG, please start a seperate thread for that. It is really beyond the scope of this thread. |
| #320lucasa78Feb 04, 2009 13:32:23 | Nah, we pretty much know for sure that warforged will make it in the EPG thatnks to last month's Orgin Sories article in Dragon. well, its just a theory... oh, and didn't the Calender have around 3-4 excerpts planned for PHB2? there is only one now! and only a few other things really looks like they're gonna have much new info... |
| #321KavonFeb 04, 2009 15:00:33 | Note that the Genasi was released in the Player's Guide not the Campaign Setting, so it is fairly safe to assume they made the same mistake for the Warforged in that quote. I'm not so sure they made a mistake there.. I think they mean the Eberron Setting in general (Campaign Guide + Player's Guide). Note they don't use the term "Campaign Guide", instead using "Campaign Setting", which, to me, means all the books concerning the campaign setting. Makes sense to me that way, anyway ^^ |
| #322doctorhookFeb 04, 2009 15:07:06 | Note that the Genasi was released in the Player's Guide not the Campaign Setting, so it is fairly safe to assume they made the same mistake for the Warforged in that quote. Strictly speaking, Ranadiel, the quote isn't wrong. This summer, we are getting the Eberron Campaign Setting, just that it isn't a single product. Rather, it's made up three products: the Eberron Campaign Guide, the Eberron Player's Guide, and an Eberron adventure called Secrets of the Ashen Crown. Thus, it's not necessarily an incorrect statement to say that rules for Warforged characters will appear in the campaign setting if they appear in one of its component products, the Eberron Player's Guide. (Although, the capitalization of "Campaign Setting" is a little weird...) It's tricky, of course, on account of the fact that in 3.5E, the analogous book to the Eberron Campaign Guide was called the "Eberron Campaign Setting". EDIT: I just realized that I was ninja'd! |

It could be 3 races, but I'm doubting it. Additionally there will be rules for Dragonmarks, and we don't know how those will work just yet so they might function as multi-class only classes also. Unfortunately I'm not planning on playing an Eberron game so I'm mainly interested in EPG for what things I can use for my LFR characters. And I doubt the Dragonmarks will qualify when the Spellscarred didn't. |

The number of useable options would appear to be the same. |
| #327JohnLynchFeb 04, 2009 21:26:48 |
We can use the new Warlock build in FRPG, as well as the races and Swordmage. Therefore I'm guessing we'll get to use the Artificer, any new builds and the races from EPG (although I'm expecting dragonmarks to be similar to spellscars in execution and so I therefore don't expect we'll get to have them). |
| #328doctorhookFeb 04, 2009 21:28:51 | Eberron Player’s Guide: The really handy thing about GRZ was that at least you could count on him to film and post a video record of those convention comments... |
| #329BolongoFeb 06, 2009 4:11:05 | A little tidbit tucked away in the latest Design & Development: "You'll see more examples of how a PC race is not always the same as a monster race in the Eberron Player's Guide this summer." |
| #330lucasa78Feb 06, 2009 11:55:18 | A little tidbit tucked away in the latest Design & Development: very interesting... and it also gives some points where the gnome PC race will be different from the MM's gnome NPC race. and they also did pretty much nothing to rid the half-orc of their dark backstory, and just made them another true breeding race. oh well, at least we are gonna have half-orcs now. |
| #331BolongoFeb 06, 2009 15:06:25 | and they also did pretty much nothing to rid the half-orc of their dark backstory, and just made them another true breeding race. oh well, at least we are gonna have half-orcs now. To my mind they just gave up the attempt to give half-orcs any sort of unified character and are saying "hey, why don't you decide the backstory?" |
| #332johnthedm7000Feb 06, 2009 16:33:27 | I think it's a little bit less of a cop-out than your implying Bolongo-what they did was give several suggestions and put out there the fact that nothing is conclusively known about the half orc's origins. This has the wonderful (at least in my opinion) effect of both generating a mystery (where did half-orcs come from?) and allowing for individual DMs to choose one or all of them as half orc origins. Honestly I wish they had done something similiar for Tieflings. |
| #333doctorhookFeb 06, 2009 22:36:19 | I like the approach that they are apparently using for the Half-Orc. "True-breeding race" is the way us Eberron players have been using Half-Orcs since 2003, and it works. Additionally, I like the potential for magical or divine origins, rather than the often distasteful, offensive, and even cliched backstory of, "My mother was a peasant, and my father was a rapist!" It's still pretty lame, even if you say it was consensual; mixed-races in fantasy are so overdone and boring. I really like the idea of "Half-Orcs" as their own distinct species. |
| #334BolongoFeb 07, 2009 2:41:28 | I really like the idea of "Half-Orcs" as their own distinct species. I'm certainly not against that part of it, that's a lot better than just being the occasional accidental by-product of something that you'd rather not think about. But if you read the column all the way through, you will see that the devs carefully weighed various ways to explain how this new race came about in the first place, and found them all wanting. Rightfully so, I might add. So what's the solution? Take all of the discarded suggestions and lump them together in one paragraph... FWIW, the one that seems most plausible to me is what I call the "Saruman's genetics lab" theory. N.B. that probably didn't involve a lot of consensus from the subjects of the experiment, but at least the nastiness is safely veiled in the mists of time. Anyway, I think we're getting really off-topic for this thread now... ![]() |
| #335doctorhookFeb 07, 2009 10:50:20 | Anyway, I think we're getting really off-topic for this thread now... No worries. That's what Ranadiel expects from me anyway. ;) |
| #336lucasa78Feb 08, 2009 18:07:54 | No worries. That's what Ranadiel expects from me anyway. ;) heh heh heh... oh! and I have something interesting! In the character builder, i was tweaking the campaign setting options and I got to the FRPG section. Spellscared is under the section "psudo-classes" so now we have an official term for multiclass-only classes! yay! edit: OH, and "longtooth shifting" is in there as well under PHB2! is it a goof or a confirmation? |
| #337KoboldAvengerFeb 09, 2009 9:33:41 | The Avenger was mentioned as a striker in the podcast. |
| #338doctorhookFeb 09, 2009 15:48:37 | You need to have a look at this, Ranadiel. http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1147127 Pictures of the Avenger entry from PH2, on display at ComiCon. It confirms it's a Striker, among other things. (It's the bloody source, I mean; how much better can it get?) I'm excited, so I'm posting the images here! |
| #339doctorhookFeb 09, 2009 16:06:00 | And more: Gnomes! |
| #340BolongoFeb 09, 2009 16:13:20 | Cool, huh? Interesting. The bit about races strongly implies that the Deva's ability adjustments are Int and Wis. Oh and the Critical Hits article contains lots of other cool bits and bobs. ;) |
| #341johnthedm7000Feb 09, 2009 16:16:50 | I really wish that someone had taken a picture of the rituals summary-I'm interested in #1 what differentiates bardic rituals from other rituals, #2 what sort of nifty nature-based rituals the Druid gets-come on Control Weather, and Speak with Animals! Come on! A planar binding ritual would be cool too, but that (if it's produced) would probably be in arcane power. |
| #342lucasa78Feb 10, 2009 0:30:53 | figures, i get something that might be a spoiler, and then you guys go and drop this and steal any glory i might have gotten... good find... but dang! |

| #345KaldricFeb 11, 2009 0:31:43 | March/Assassins - April/Familiars - May/Monk Playtest Coming up in Dragon. |
| #346lucasa78Feb 11, 2009 0:39:39 | in case you were wondering, thats from the last regularly scheduled digital insider and curse you for beating me to it! |
| #347BolongoFeb 11, 2009 2:28:23 | March/Assassins - April/Familiars - May/Monk Playtest That it's coming in Dragon is irrelevant for this particular thread. The huge scoop is that the Monk is slated for PH 3! |
| #348ranadielFeb 11, 2009 8:10:22 | Added a PHB3 section and moved the monk into it. |
| #349lucasa78Feb 11, 2009 14:17:20 | That it's coming in Dragon is irrelevant for this particular thread. I would not say that it is irrelevant, it is important to know where to look for it. but yay! This clarifies one of my theories! I was expecting PHB3 to have either a psionics or Oriental Adventure theme. I was expecting psionics to go with the eberron setting books, but now I am definitely leaning towards the OA one, with 4 ki, 2 shadow, and 2 elemental. but more on topic: R, do you think the shifter thing I mentioned is good enough to put into the confirmed list? edit: oh, i see you already have that Razorclaw shifter character sheet on there, d'you guys think that there will be both of the MM shifters? even more maybe? |
| #350ranadielFeb 11, 2009 18:12:05 | edit: oh, i see you already have that Razorclaw shifter character sheet on there, d'you guys think that there will be both of the MM shifters? even more maybe? *shrugs*I'm expecting four personally, but I have nothing to back that up beyond my own personal opinion. |
| #351thalminFeb 11, 2009 22:48:29 | sorry, late-night posting. Meant to start a new thread |
| #352doctorhookFeb 12, 2009 0:19:19 | This is from an email I received today from one of my distributors. Sorry, there were no pictures. It's a little sad, actually. There's so many Elf, Human, Eladrin, and Half-Elf minis on that list, when often minis of those races can easily stand-in for each other. We've got lots of dwarves, too. What we don't have is many Dragonborn or Tieflings. |
| #353KaldricFeb 12, 2009 1:03:08 | Here's what I'd like to see. a male/female human figure in cloth, light, heavy armors with their ears covered. These count for humans, eladrin, half-elves, elves, and half-orcs. a male/female fat short one in heavy armor. Dwarves. a male/female skinny short one in lighter armor. Halflings/Gnomes. a male/female dragonborn in heavy armor. a male/female tiefling in light armor. a warforged. I make that about 15 figures, covering the vast majority of characters that get played. They are stereotypes for a reason, because they are common tropes. What percentage of PCs consist of female dragonborn rogues, do you think? |
| #354ranadielFeb 12, 2009 6:35:43 | .....Why are we talking about figures when I don't list them in my compilation? :P |
| #355lucasa78Feb 12, 2009 20:02:14 | .....Why are we talking about figures when I don't list them in my compilation? lol, well it was interesting to see what they are making miniatures of, even if it doesn't fit here and they didn't all make sense. edit: new dragon article has info about the summoning keyword that will be in arcane power and several examples of necromancy spells. |
| #356JohnLynchFeb 13, 2009 15:53:05 | May/Monk Playtest Huh. Looks like PHB3 will have Ki then. In which case I wouldn't expect the Shadow power source. IMO we will not see Shadow and Ki in the same book because Necromancers seem much more popular then the psionic classes. As such they'll want that big draw for PHB4. People's predictions so far (IMO) is what they want to see rather then what WotC is likely to do. I think psionics isn't going to get at least 2 classes because Eberron is quite psionic-related and so I can't see them leaving that flapping in the wind until 2011. They can justify lots of Elemental classes by making that the emphasis in Dark Sun in addition to psionic classes. I dunno. Ravenloft just oozes cool and it would make for a great tie in with the Shadow source and more monstrous races. And yes. Dark Sun FTW. I think Ravenloft, Spelljammer and Planescape have been sacrificed to the gods with its remains put into 4e default. I would be extremely surprised to see any of them get a campaign book as a separate campaign (rather then a book on Sigil as one of the Plane series of books). |
| #357BelorinFeb 13, 2009 19:15:18 |
I hope future DMG's will cover the mechanics of horror, naval warfare and intrigue in order to further play in these areas. Bel |
| #358KaldricFeb 14, 2009 0:17:32 | Who knows if the Necromancer is going to be shadow-powered or not. I mean, they just dropped several pages of Necromantic powers for various power sources. Who knows? |
| #359lucasa78Feb 14, 2009 0:31:55 | Who knows if the Necromancer is going to be shadow-powered or not. I mean, they just dropped several pages of Necromantic powers for various power sources. Who knows? that kinda implies that they probably won't make an actual necromancer class, they might just give necromancy options in the power books |
| #360ranadielFeb 14, 2009 6:37:39 | Who knows if the Necromancer is going to be shadow-powered or not. I mean, they just dropped several pages of Necromantic powers for various power sources. Who knows? And who knows if we are going to have an elemental power source at all since the wizazrd deals elemental damage. :P Incidently, I think we have had enough discussion fr now. So I am placing a ban on discussion. I know it won't last long, but I think it should be done for a little bit. |

So while technically it will probably come out, I'm not putting it down.:P |

| #372lucasa78Feb 20, 2009 1:20:59 | Monday 02/23: A look at a new paragon path, the frenzied berzerker! from Today's excerpt |
| #373ranadielFeb 20, 2009 6:35:13 | Added today's preview. Basically it just consists of some background stuff. However it does have some interesting fluff regarding Devas. For starters it seems that Devas and Rakshasa might actually some from a single source(a corrupted Deva will be reborn as a Rakashasa). Additionally it seems that Deva are seeking to reach enlightenment. Also we've got another image of a Deva, so I think we have a much better idea of what their appearance is meant to be. -=Edit: Oh yeah I've been meaning to mention this for a while now. We are now the most viewed thread in the Future Releases forum! Congrats everyone!=- |

Supporting it would be even better. |
| #376ranadielFeb 20, 2009 18:44:29 | No no, congratulations to you! You're doing a great job. What are you talking about? I didn't refresh this thread 10,000 times.....where did you get that idea? *rereads the post* I mean yes congrats to me. ![]() its also possible that devas and rakshasa are unrelated, but that deva was so evil he almost reincarnated as something equally evil. that's the impression I got. maybe it ment that it'd be born to a rakshasa? The thing though is that both Deva and Rakshasa are species that are reborn after they are killed. So since it seems that it is possible for a corrupted Deva to become a Rakshasa, it seems likely that there is some connection between the two species. |

No comment as to how many times I've refreshed this... The thing though is that both Deva and Rakshasa are species that are reborn after they are killed. So since it seems that it is possible for a corrupted Deva to become a Rakshasa, it seems likely that there is some connection between the two species. *checks info of rakshasa* Iiiiiiiinteresting... so they do... that is kind of an interesting twist... i need to do more fact checking before arguing against theories... is their reincarnation thing new in 4e? the 3.5 manual does not mention it. Does say that they are very evil though. :D |
| #378doctorhookFeb 21, 2009 12:12:32 | *checks info of rakshasa* I do recall that Rakshasas did spontaneously reincarnate themselves in Eberron, however. |
| #379enigmashockFeb 25, 2009 15:26:33 | Interesting addition over on the clandar thread, take it for what its worth: The power cards for Arcane Power came online to Amazon - they consist mostly of what we expected: Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock and Wizard - but what is interesting is that Swordmage has TWO decks of cards! EDIT: Dr.Hook already set me straight in the other thread - one of the decks is probably the basic powers from the FRPG. |

| #393lucasa78Mar 02, 2009 20:03:19 | some interesting things (to me) I found in the SRD: duergar Npc race in MM2, confirming that they are, in fact in the MM2. (npc races I mean, but I suppose that it implies duergar monsters as well.) monsters at page 59: WereBoar and weretiger! confirming awesome in MM2. If there is something not in there that you were hoping for, don't worry, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't be. p.s. they are working on schedules for as far as 2012! ....Could you also pass on posting when they are up and what the next ones will be about? fine, fine... |

| #412doctorhookMar 11, 2009 16:10:23 | went to your source, but it was just some flash thing and didn't mention anything specific. If you click on the book "Arcane Power" at the bottom of the screen, it gives a description of the product, which includes the words, "You'll also discover the new Vestige Pact...." Obviously, that doesn't tell us anything about it, but it confirms its existence, and gives a new to the long-expected "new pact" in Arcane Power. Given that Arcane Power comes out next month and this flash thing went up this month, I'd say it's a solid bet that the Vestige Pact will appear in Arcane Power. |

I am fully aware of the "true assassin" class that may or may not be in PHBIII(I started the thread about it in this forum). However there is absolutely no evidence that it will or will not appear in PHBIII or what its name will be if it ever is released. As such it doesn't serve any point in this thread. |

| #425ranadielMar 23, 2009 21:09:59 | Today's Arcane Power preview(vestige pact) and the Martial Power 2 platest both added to the list. |

It's only been suggested. And it would be quite strange if wizards mentioned dragonlance in one book with no intention of giving it 4e support. |

| #431BolongoMar 27, 2009 2:45:39 | From today's Design&Development: "The Primal Power sourcebook will have more detail on the connections between primal tribes and the civilized folk they move around or among. For that matter, Primal Power will talk a bit about primal tribes, about the various ways they interact with the spirits, and the fact that some tribes include members of many different races." Or in other words, there will be some fluff. :P |

| #433ranadielMar 27, 2009 6:45:55 | Sorry, I'm being optimistic. It's only been suggested. And it would be quite strange if wizards mentioned dragonlance in one book with no intention of giving it 4e support. Giving it support doesn't mean that they have any plans to release it any time soon(it could the setting for 2020). Besides the same book had Greyhawk dragons in it. So there is about as much evidence that we will be getting Greyhawk in the near future as Dragonlance. And if we're lucky imo both of them will be put off for a few years. Now get off my lawn!:P From today's Design&Development: Yes yes yes, we already knew that there would be fluff in Primal Power.:P I'll go ahead and add something about it to the list though. However that will be later as I need to go eat breakfast and then go to my morning class. Hurray school! ![]() |

I found supporting information for 4e Dragonlance with my first basic Google search, though I should have already known where to go - straight to the horse's mouth. Is this good enough? Trampas Whiteman and Cam Banks are very well-known, and highly connected Dragonlance writers, both for official game supplements, and Cam for novels, too. And when I say "highly connected", I mean they work directly with Margaret and usually (not always, but usually) get their info directly from her or Tracy. The whole world is my lawn, so play nice, kiddies. ;) |

And when I say "highly connected", I mean they work directly with Margaret and usually (not always, but usually) get their info directly from her or Tracy. generally, something on a forum is not considered official (at least not here) unless its from one of the WotC's big guys that we know. so, if the world is your lawn, maybe you should go mow it. that sounded wittier in my head, but the point stands. |
| #440justynthymeMar 28, 2009 2:53:05 | No that isn't good enough. It is a bunch of rnadom people who I have never heard of who are making a claim from a super secret source on the internet. That does not help your argument it just fills up my internet argument bingo card. Random people? Great, yet another person mouthing off without knowing a thing of which they speak. Your words betray you, sir. My post gave you everything you needed to know to verify they are credible sources, not "random people". Did you even read what I posted, or did you just click on my link, see that it was a post on a forum, see that the post was without a verifying link, then mouth off like you actually paid attention and did any kind of research? Seriously, when I said they wrote official Dragonlance products, that should have been your first clue they were credible. All you had to do was look up their names on Amazon to see the Dragonlance products credited to them. As a matter of record, I never said the news was official, just credible. There is a difference between the two, and I was just asking if credible was enough. There was no need for your dismissive attitude, especially since you didn't know what you were talking about and obviously didn't even try to. It was offensive and condescending. While I understand that "inside information", regardless of its credibility, is not good enough for your thread (everyone must have their standards, after all), I suggest you might wish to watch how you word things in the future, so as not to cause offense where you shouldn't and where none is called for. Otherwise, as I said, your words will betray you. Once should be enough for any civilized man. Also for the record, Trampas wasn't being vague because his post was based on rumors, he likely was trying to reassure the fans without breaking his NDA. And for those who have never signed one, which is perfectly okay if you haven't, no judgments, "NDA" stands for "Non-Disclosure Agreement". Besides, he had confirmation that it would happen, but not the details, so vague is all he had to give, NDA or no. Still, all Dragonlance fans, rest assured that it will happen. It might be in 2010, or 2020, but happen it will. And for future Dragonlance news, I would pay more attention to the Dragonlance forums I linked to earlier, instead of this thread. The news on that particular topic will be fresher, more up to date, since this thread won't likely post it until there is official verification, such as a press release (which is perfectly understandable). So, what do you say we drop this subject, play nice, and return to the regularly scheduled intent of this thread? Which is to say, officially supported, plainly stated (not just hinted at or mentioned in passing in other books) future release news. Especially now that we have cleared up the standards to which a product or detail must be held before it is posted in post #1. Deal? |

| #442ranadielMar 28, 2009 7:09:16 | Random people? Great, yet another person mouthing off without knowing a thing of which they speak. Your words betray you, sir. So he's written Dragonlance stuff in the past? Big deal. He's not saying that he is working on a Dragonlance Campaign Setting at the moment, in which case I would consider him to be credible source rather than a random person on the internet. What he is doing is invoking an argument from M. Sipher's Internet Argument-Losing Bingo card in the first freaking post. That eliminates any credibility that he might have had. Maybe it is true and that he has an NDA that he can't break, although personally I would think that an NDA would prevent him from even saying that he knows that Dragonlance is coming, but there is an equal amount of evidence that he is not under and NDA as there is to say that he is.....which is to say there is none. And as far as I am concerned, a person who has no credibility and who is posting on the internet just a random person on the internet. And for the record, I read the first ten pages of that thread....7 months ago. Has it really been that long? I admit at the time I was unaware that he had written any Dragonlance stuff officially, but I stand by my decision to not include it because he isn't using his position as having officially written stuff as the basis of his claim. And if I want to be extremely nitpicky, his claim has already come to pass, as he only says that Dragonlance will move to 4th edition. He never says what it will be or how much, and we have already had a small part of Dragonlance move to 4th through the Draconomicon. I should also mention that the bread and butter of this thread for a while has been forum posts(okay I admit news has been sort of dead for a while now). And have fun waiting for your news someplace else. Unless either the news is posted exclusively on a Dragonlance website or the news is posted while I'm asleep, I'll be sure to have the credible news up before or around the time whatever site you check has it.....which will probably be something like 2015.:P |
| #443lucasa78Mar 28, 2009 14:38:08 | Random people? Great, yet another person mouthing off without knowing a thing of which they speak. Your words betray you, sir. wow, in all of that all you succeeded in arguing for was that you are a 12 your old kid who's parents ignored him so he tries to get attention elsewhere. (ok,that's enough feeding the flame war) if you wanted your info to be considered official, all you had to do was find info to prove that it was credible, and post it. its really amazing how simple these things are. though R would still have turned it down, at least you might have your dignity, not that anyone really can have dignity on the internet. I apologize for calling you a 12 year old, but that's what you get when you ignore my post and then make me read a wall of text. Unless either the news is posted exclusively on a Dragonlance website or the news is posted while I'm asleep, I'll be sure to have the credible news up before or around the time whatever site you check has it.....which will probably be something like 2015.:P I'll be sure to put you down for 2015 in the pool, R. All I got to say is suckage. Please no more Kura-Tur What? How the heck does a mechanical comparison between races in FRPG and PHBIII, neither of which has any strong ties to OA, confirm or even point to OA?For that matter, how does the mention of a class from a book published over a year confirm that next year is going to be when OA comes out. Couldn't it come out the year after next or the year after that. There absolutely is no timing implied byt the book, and so it can hardly be used for an idea of time frame(And that is ignoring the fact that a class with eastern roots can exist without OA). |

| #477redwulfeApr 24, 2009 14:20:01 | First off you are correct. I will try to post this to make myself clear and not misspell anything. When I read the play test article I saw a reference to Gensani and my mind due to lack of sleep and a fear of OA being the next Campaign out thought that this was a reference to the old Kara-Tur class of fighter known as the Gensai. I did not make the connection that that was not what was being said and instead they were making a comparison to the elemental race in the forgotten realms book. hence lack of sleep and not thinking the post through made me post something that was not factual and driven out of psychologically sleep deprived panic. (and they were kinda short on races, compared to the ph1) That was after I thought It was some sort of shadow creature from the picture, which would have fit the shadow power source. |
| #484doctorhookApr 25, 2009 18:07:41 | Let's just say I'm hoping the reason they decided to playtest this particular race is that it's the most "out there" of the races they're planning. ;) lol They certainly are "out there". Cool, but quite weird. |
| #485alumanApr 29, 2009 21:26:59 | Divine Power Just pointing minor typo. |
| #486ranadielApr 30, 2009 5:56:18 | Just pointing minor typo. Geez, I can't believe that I missed that. I guss I just must have been off that day or something. |
| #487lucasa78Apr 30, 2009 13:02:55 | also, things to move to the second page unless you have a reason for keeping them: power sources> primal Unsorted stuff> aasimar |
| #488Alter_BoyApr 30, 2009 15:11:34 | Saw this at enworld.com: Amazon listing of the Underdark supplement that's been rumoured. It's by Andy Collins and Rob Heinsoo. http://www.amazon.com/Underdark-4th-D-Supplement/dp/078695387X/ |
| #489ranadielApr 30, 2009 21:32:05 | also, things to move to the second page unless you have a reason for keeping them: Bleh fine I made the list smaller again. Curse you WotC for being so tight lipped!:P |
| #490lucasa78May 02, 2009 19:18:25 | Bleh fine I made the list smaller again. Curse you WotC for being so tight lipped!:P well, there is the underdark book, monk playtest will confirm some things, and there is the MM3 playtest later on... and what whatever this is: http://www.amazon.com/Players-Handbook-Races-Dragonborn-Supplement/dp/0786953861/ |
| #491ranadielMay 02, 2009 19:26:01 | well, there is the underdark book, monk playtest will confirm some things, and there is the MM3 playtest later on... I'm cutting down on empty entries, so as there are no details about any of them currently available they will not be added just yet. |
| #492ranadielMay 05, 2009 21:23:06 | Updated with yesterdays info. Sorry for the delay, but finals are this week. x_x While I was at it, I moved Eberron Plaer's Guide ahead of the campaign guide since the release order has officially changed now. |

| #496lucasa78May 10, 2009 23:07:02 | monk is psionic!! |
| #497MarandahirMay 11, 2009 0:06:22 | On that note, Ki is Dead! |
| #498doctorhookMay 11, 2009 0:14:55 | monk is psionic!! On that note, Ki is Dead! Aw, he is gonna crap right all over you two for posting a scoop he was bound to see on his own. Incidentally: Ranadiel! The Monk is confirmed as Psionic! This means Ki is (probably) dead as a power source! I know you never would have heard about this without my help. ;) |
| #499MarandahirMay 11, 2009 0:29:39 | Hahaha. Of course I know he will hear it. He's probably ALREADY heard it. I'd just like it updated to the list ASAP. ![]() |
| #500KoboldAvengerMay 11, 2009 1:46:28 | Um, it's now confirmed that Psionic Powers are called Disciplines. Though it's something that most of us guessed anyways, since Sciences or Devotions didn't sound that good. |
| #501ranadielMay 11, 2009 6:20:07 | Aw, he is gonna crap right all over you two for posting a scoop he was bound to see on his own. Incidentally: *stabs both doctorhook and Lucasa78 with Fullblades* I was trying to sleep you jerks. *jumps back into bed* |

Ki -Currently "dead in the water", Source Elemental -Has been "proven as a concept", Source Shadow -Has been "proven as a concept", Source Monk -Is a psionic striker, Source -Playtest Samurai -Currently no plans to release as a unique class, Source Ninja -Matched to a non-Ki power source, Source Wu Jen -Matched to a non-Ki power source, Source Shugenja -Matched to a non-Ki power source, Source |

| #505ranadielMay 12, 2009 6:23:05 | seconded, but come on, can you blame us? its the monk! Yes I can because when I want sleep that is much more important than anything else. |
| #506lucasa78May 13, 2009 21:10:41 | Yes I can because when I want sleep that is much more important than anything else. What, do you have something that wakes you up when there is a new post on this thread? Go sleep, we're not going anywhere. |
| #507alumanMay 19, 2009 13:36:55 | per http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/news_20090519.jpg Image, we can summarize: PHB 3: Primal, Divine, Psionic Races: Minotaur. |
| #508ekioMay 19, 2009 13:41:34 | And githerzai. |
| #509ranadielMay 19, 2009 13:47:42 | Info from the cover added. |
| #510doctorhookMay 19, 2009 19:41:16 | And githerzai. It could be a Githyanki... though -Zerai is more likely. Like a lot of folks, I'll speculate that when we see one, we'll see the other. |
| #511ranadielMay 19, 2009 21:13:30 | Oh as an fyi, I'll be in New Hampshire for the next few days looking at places to stay. As I don't know whether I'll have consistent access to the interwebs I can't guarantee frequent updates. So while I'm gone, I expect no wild parties. Nobody is to let doctorhook out of the basement. Remember not to feed Lucasa78 after midnight, and remember to stay in school. |

| #514doctorhookMay 20, 2009 22:04:46 | Wooo! time to party! Yeah, I'm pretty sure I heard that the Thri-Kreen is one of the races in PH3. Their racial encounter power is that they get to take an extra standard action to attack once per encounter, on account of the extra arm. |
| #515ranadielMay 21, 2009 4:57:07 | Yeah, I'm pretty sure I heard that the Thri-Kreen is one of the races in PH3. | #518kaz_the_dmMay 23, 2009 7:27:47 | This list on the first page really bothers me ... 4th Edition just came not even a year ago and we already have a PHB2 and a MM2. I put money on it that 4.5 is coming ... if that happens WotC can keep it, I'll go back to playing 3.5. Best, Kaz |
| #519BelorinMay 23, 2009 15:25:16 | Ya know Kaz, they actually planned it that way, release a new PHB, MM and DMG every year and that way they avoid having to put out a 4.5. Bel |
| #520ranadielMay 23, 2009 19:22:19 | Monster Manual 2 moved to the info dump.....or at least it will be in a couple of min. This list on the first page really bothers me ... 4th Edition just came not even a year ago and we already have a PHB2 and a MM2. I put money on it that 4.5 is coming ... if that happens WotC can keep it, I'll go back to playing 3.5. As Bel mentioned, it was always planned for there to be a new iteration of the first three books every year. It is hardly news, and I know that people are already speculating about PHBIV(and to a lesser extent PHBV). This is hardly proof that the edition is collapsing. If you want to worry about the sky falling, then I kindly request that you go start another thread about it or go find one of the old threads about iot as that is not the goal of this thread. |
| #521halfricanMay 25, 2009 15:03:16 | http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1193782 Kalashtar confirmed for EPG They have telepathy 5 as a language and a racial power that protects from will-based attacks. They seem to get Wis and either Int or Cha (unable to tell at this point). |
| #522ranadielMay 25, 2009 16:27:31 | http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1193782 Added Kalashtar to the list. I also added some info from http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4dnd/20080814 that I apparently had forgotten to add(I think I didn't have sub sections for settings when it came out and the Eberron books hadn't been officially announced yet so I didn't have a place to put it when it came out). Highlights from that include restrictions on Dragonmarks being lessoned, new cosmology metaphor, and the fact that the timeline won't advance. Also I fixed a mistake in the order of some entries(Dragonlance coming after the Es). |
| #523AstromathMay 25, 2009 17:30:12 | Rand: I just noticed you still have "-Not on the production schedule as of (8/16/08), Source" under the Psionic power source. |

And that still belongs as it was not on the production schedule as of 8/16/08. :P .....I probably should mention that it is confirmed for PHB3 though. |
| #525ranadielMay 27, 2009 6:24:49 | Added Self-Forged and round 2 of the Hybrid Class Playtest. |
| #526ranadielJun 01, 2009 6:49:20 | *looks around* I've actually been able to get work done without having to yell at doctorhook for a while. This has felt nice. Hurray for personal space! Today's update include psion confirmed for PHB3, EPG preview, and credit list for Dragon Annual. Also I come today with a request from all of you. Gencon is apparently coming up, and I need minions for it! I want to go, but I have to be frugal with my money atm(having no income stinks). As a result, I am in need of people to record the audio of some of the seminars that will be going on, or at the very least take notes. If you are interested, just leave me a message here or PM me and we can see about working something out. |

| #528doctorhookJun 01, 2009 19:41:11 | HOW ABOUT THIS, R: I'll make a lot of noise and spam here! If you want me to stop, pay for my trip to GenCon, and I'll take all the notes you ever wanted! Either way, we both win! ![]() |
| #529ranadielJun 03, 2009 15:36:49 | Breaking news! Someone has the EPG! Highlights from the thread include changelings as a playable race, a paragon path for every dragonmark, 9 non-dragonmark paragon paths, 4 epic destinies, and 50 new feats. |
| #530doctorhookJun 03, 2009 17:48:24 | Breaking news! That is big news! Not unexpected at this time, though. I can't wait to get my copy! When you say "Changeling", you mean (the-formerly-known-as-"Changelings"-but-now-called-) Doppelgangers, right? I'm asking for everyone else's benefit, because I'm gonna go read the source and find out for myself. |
| #531ranadielJun 03, 2009 19:09:56 | That is big news! Not unexpected at this time, though. I can't wait to get my copy! No I believfe I mean Changelings with different stats from Dopplegangers. Of course I don't remember Doppleganger stats, so I might be wrong. *shrugs* |
| #532ff6shadowJun 03, 2009 19:14:02 | Doppels are +INt/Cha, Skills are Bluff and Insight. +1 Will, and their at-will shapechange. The big difference is another racial power and the Dex option. It sounds like a lot of fun. |
| #533ranadielJun 11, 2009 10:40:34 | New entry! 2010 Campaign Setting -Has an "a" in the title, Source -$ Honestly I'm subscribing to the theory that $ means dollar sign, which means Dark Sun is the next campaign setting. Then again I am just being hopeful.:D |

| #537doctorhookJun 13, 2009 12:57:19 | I thought somebody might have already noted this, but apparently not here: there's an Aurak Draconian mini in the upcoming set "Legendary Evils". (Draconians are iconic Dragonlance monsters.) This has thrown a lot of fuel on the fire of the debate regarding whether Dragonlance will be the 2010 campaign setting. Source: http://www.ddmspoilers.com/mm_02.php There's also a sweet-looking Huge Visible Balor Demon in that set, but that's not really a spoiler of anything other than itself. :P |

| #540ranadielJun 14, 2009 15:13:48 | I don't blame you, but that's because I'd prefer it wasn't. See this WotC! Not only does everyone of any importance agree that Dragonlance should not be the next setting, but doctorhook agrees too. So that's like everyone of importance+0.5(0.3?....0.01? meh w/e) of a person. That gives us a clear majority!:P |
| #541ff6shadowJun 14, 2009 15:43:12 | Heh, personally, I'm hoping for Mystara or Dark Sun. |

Not that they have done anything remotely like that in the past. |
| #543KoboldAvengerJun 16, 2009 2:09:47 | Let's see 'a' in the name... That could be Dark Sun, Planescape, Ravenloft, Dragonlance, Greyhawk, Spelljammer, Mystara, even Al Quadim. Maybe it's a new campaign setting called "A"... |
| #544TheLoneClericJun 16, 2009 6:49:05 | Let's see 'a' in the name... That could be Dark Sun, Planescape, Ravenloft, Dragonlance, Greyhawk, Spelljammer, Mystara, even Al Quadim. And whatever $ means. :D |
| #545ranadielJun 16, 2009 12:14:01 | As far as Dark Sunbeing a possibility instead of Dragonlance, there's a place in the Eberron Player's guide that mentions Thri-keen and Half-giants as being fairly easy to find in one area. Can't find the spot though. Quoting from another thread so as to make my life easier when I get my copy of EPG in the next day or two. I'll add the information to the list once I have had a chance to double check it. |
| #546ranadielJun 18, 2009 16:14:27 | Okay, updated to reflect EPG's release. EPG and Kalashtar moved to the info dump. Entries added for all the races mentioned in supporting cast and also for Half-Giants and Thri-Kreen. |
| #547ranadielJun 26, 2009 17:16:13 | Updated with today's excerts. |
| #548darth_azalinJun 27, 2009 2:55:10 | Noticed in your notes you have Monk still using Ki when it will be Psionic. Also you have Primal Power book will introduce Tribal feats. Which is not correct as Tribal Feats have been introduced in Dragon 372. If anything they might be expanded on. So if anything use a color or use strike through when something has been updated or proven not the case. |
| #549JohnLynchJun 28, 2009 10:38:07 | Also you have Primal Power book will introduce Tribal feats. Which is not correct as Tribal Feats have been introduced in Dragon 372. If anything they might be expanded on. Can you tell me which dang page they're on? I can't find them! |

If anything they might be expanded on. The tribal feats in dragon are a playtest for primal power so itys still correct to say they are being introduced in primal power |
| #551ranadielJun 28, 2009 17:35:05 | Can you tell me which dang page they're on? I can't find them! They aren't in the issue, check the link by their mention in the linklist to find the playtest. |
| #552darth_azalinJun 28, 2009 20:04:52 | They aren't in the issue, check the link by their mention in the linklist to find the playtest. The CB lists that Dragon Issue as the source of the feat. |
| #553JohnLynchJun 28, 2009 22:11:14 | They aren't in the issue, check the link by their mention in the linklist to find the playtest. I'm still blind. Which article is it in? Or a link? |
| #554BolongoJun 28, 2009 23:03:33 | I'm still blind. Which article is it in? Or a link? 1. Go to first page of this thread. 2. Find the heading for Primal Power. 3. Find the line that reads "Tribe feats will be introduced." 4. The word "Source" is a link. 5. Click it. |
| #555JohnLynchJun 28, 2009 23:30:13 | 1. Go to first page of this thread. D'oh! Thankyou. In my defence it wasn't in the Table of Contents for Dragon #372. |
| #556ranadielJun 29, 2009 4:32:02 | The CB lists that Dragon Issue as the source of the feat. That neither changes the facts that it was simply a playtest, it isn't physically in the issue, nor that I am happy with the wording.:P |
| #557marius4Jun 29, 2009 21:50:29 | Did you add the Shielding Cleric build somewhere? |

| #567ranadielJul 07, 2009 18:55:16 | Githyanki going to be a player race - Psion article made a mention of the class being well suited to the race. Already added, I just didn't feel like adding a note saying I did since the last two posts were by me. :P -=Edit: Oh wait you said yanki not....w/e the other one is. I don't consider that to be strong enough evidence considering that we have had stats for the yanki for over a year.=- |
| #568ranadielJul 11, 2009 19:54:31 | Added yesterday's updates. Still haven't gone through the podcast though. |
| #569BolongoJul 15, 2009 17:12:01 | Added yesterday's updates. Still haven't gone through the podcast though. There's not a lot to it. I recall thinking there was only one decent hint in the whole thing... and I've already forgotten what it was. :P Edit: went back and listened to some of it. * Divine Sanction is a second, separate marking mechanism for the Paladin (who can have both types of marking operating at the same time). More bookkeeping, yay. Continuing the 4e principle of not rewriting a weak rule if you can "fix" it by tacking some new bits on instead. * Many of the new powers are designed for the old builds. They dance around the issue of the Str-Pally being unplayable, but go so far as to say they want DP to "fill some holes", especially for the Cleric and Paladin. * Historical tidbit: the Avenger was originally called Templar. (I always suspected that...) |
| #570ranadielJul 22, 2009 20:20:07 | Added Templar to the list as they are mentioned among other Divine classes in the ECG. Also moved this months books to the info dump. I'll add The Plane Above wehn we actually get the text from the Spring Catalog. |
| #571doctorhookJul 23, 2009 12:36:20 | Added Templar to the list as they are mentioned among other Divine classes in the ECG. Also moved this months books to the info dump. I'll add The Plane Above wehn we actually get the text from the Spring Catalog. Hey R, maybe I'm missing the forest for the trees here, but what's the source for the talk of this "Plane Above" book? (Aside from it being the natural follow-up to "Plane Below", I mean.) Was this book mentioned somewhere? Also, can you confirm that "Templar" isn't just a typo; that is, can you post the sentence it appears in? In particular, was it mentioned alongside the Avenger? (Aside from it being the natural follow-up to "Plane Below", I mean.) Was this book mentioned somewhere? Plane Above is apparently mentioned in the Spring Catalogue, but as I mentioned in my last post I'm waiting for someone to post the full text before I add that to the list. As for the Templar, no I cannot confirm that it isn't just a typo. But then again, I'm not claiming that it is confirmed as a PHB3 class or anything else. It is added to the list in the same capacity that Illumian, Elementalist, Sha'ir, and Wu Jen were added. It was mentioned in a WotC product in such a way as to suggest they may do something with it in the future. |

| #577ranadielAug 04, 2009 19:21:04 | Alright I finally got around to doing yesterdays updates along with today's. I must say that sometimes it is really boring to do these(like yesterday). Other times it it is extremely exciting(like today). Because I just won two longstanding arguments(you could almost say three). So yeah, I rock!:P Updates: Seeker -Mentioned in the Githzerai Character Builder update as a class they are good at(retrieved from 8/4/09 update) Adventurer's Vault II -[url=http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4ex/20090803]Lair Items[/urll] -Relics of Creation DMGII -Summary of Contents Plane Below -Primeval Ooze PHBIII Races -Will only have four races, Source -Githyanki not appearing, Source Githzerai -Rules Classes -Will contain only four psionic classes, Source |

| #581darth_azalinAug 10, 2009 5:16:12 | We don't know the fourth race. Is there a place were speculation is found? How cool would it be to have a Illithids? Bariaurs? Mephlings? |
| #582ranadielAug 10, 2009 6:12:32 | Is there a place were speculation is found? How cool would it be to have a Illithids? Bariaurs? Mephlings? Considering they aren't doing the yanki because they want to avoid using up their villianous pc race credit, I doubt they will be including the illithids or mephlings. I think the most likely possibility at the moment is the crystaline race from the psion preview, but there are diverging thoughts on what that picture is of. |

Agreed. The justification for not including Githyanki as a player race is even more applicable to Illithids. (I sure as heck don't want my players villain-decaying my Mind Flayers.) I think the most likely possibility at the moment is the crystaline race from the psion preview, but there are diverging thoughts on what that picture is of. I'm pretty certain it's a psionic construct monster, not a race... |

They tossed the entire Evil perception from races when they basically allowed a Gold Dragon to be Evil. Red Dragon to be Lawful Good. There is no reason why you couldn't play the race. There is a huge difference between a PC and a Monster. |

They apparently still consider some races to be villianous and want to use those those races sparringly. They said as much in the zerai article. |

| #588DragonsWrathAug 14, 2009 21:50:07 | I saw the WotC 2010 catalog or something at my FLGS earlier this afternoon. The only 'spoiler' information I can recall seeing that hasn't been shared yet is about the Dragonborn Racial Handbook (whatever it's called). The book will include: - Racial Feats - Racial Paragon Paths (<== PLURAL!) - Racial Epic Destinies (<== PLURAL!) - Information on Role Playing Dragonborn 100% speculation: Presumably it may include - Information on Arkosha - Specific Race/Class paragon paths and EDs - Possibly some racial speciffic items Presumably the Tiefling book will be of a similar design, but I didn't see that mentioned. It may have been one of the pages with no pictures. :P |

| #593doctorhookAug 16, 2009 20:06:01 | R! Can you add a link to Mr Perkins' comments from this thread somewhere? It's not new, but it took me forever to track down, and I think it's going to remain relevant for a while yet. He's talking about how WotC picks campaign settings. |
| #594ranadielAug 27, 2009 19:57:22 | *sigh* Well thanks to the wonderful(read as horrible) decision to destroy the functionality of the forums, this list has lost a lot of utility. I will be fixing it up, but it will take me a while to do this. Dang it. |
| #595KoboldAvengerSep 15, 2009 1:57:59 | According to this interview the Dark Sun Player's Guide will not have any new classes, it will instead have a new mechanic. |

It took way too much time to reformat everything.....although in retrospect I should have been doing my reading for torts instead. I added a second info dump because if I tried to edit the first one I would of had to reformat everything. Here are the new entries. Draconomicon 2 Elemental Chaos Underdark Dragonborn

| #599burningroseDec 06, 2009 11:18:13 | Has anyone put the Ardent and Battlemind snippets on here yet? I don't think so... The Wilden in the CB has favored classes listed as: "Battlemind, druid, invoker, and shaman classes". The Githzerai article said that they didn't have a main stat in any Psionic class but Monk, so assuming the Battlemind is Psionic (I think that's a fair assumption), because Wilden have Wisdom and Constitution, and Githzerai have Wisdom and Dexterity, its safe to assume that the Battlemind uses Constitution as a main stat and has Wisdom as one secondary stat. The Ardent has less information: It's the class that's going to debut this month. www.wizards.com/dnd/TOC.aspx?x=dnd/4new/... |
| #600hunterzDec 08, 2009 20:52:43 | Redirecting - I know several people have mentioned that racial feat selections in many cases felt thin, lacking or incomplete. Has there been any mention as to expanding on the racial feat selections for the already existing races from PHB I and PHB II to come out in PHB III or another source? I'm sure this has been brought up at some point and I just missed it. Thanks! |
| #601Alter_BoyAug 02, 2010 13:20:11 | Does this thread need to be stickied? 90% of the info here has already been released to the public. No-one's posted here for 8 months, and the OP hasn't updated it in a year. |
| #602Cohen95Aug 05, 2010 4:43:48 | If it hasn't been mentioned yet, Player's Option: Heroes of Shadow is set to be released March 15. The splat mentions two other Shadow classes (Necromancer and Hexblade), and says it will contain new races and classes. They're calling it a Player's Option book, but I guess it's just a one power source PHB? |

| #610sallaJul 23, 2011 18:12:40 | Speaking of future releases, any word on 5th Edition yet? Not trying to start any fights or anything, I'm genuinely curious. No. |
| #611kenlarJul 24, 2011 15:01:11 | Wait a minute. Ninja? Samurai? Since when did 'western medieval fantasy' start to include elements from the Feudal Asia? True, true. There's no line in the 4.0 Rulebooks that specifically state that D&D has to be western medieval fantasy. After having played through a couple of seemingly random adventures (because we often get sidetracked from the goal, when running long Herioc-to-Epic-Tier adventures), I've actually found that it is possible to bend the specs for certain weapons or items, to fit the setting better. For instance, if it's a Three Kingdoms-era based setting, most generals would probably be equipped with large heavy-blades (Broadsword from AV2) and Halberds, while a few might be armed with Longbows, or for a Feudal Japan-setting, all the swords can easily have their types renamed (from "longsword" to "katana" or from "short sword" to "wakizashi") and nothing else needs to be changed. Hell, the individual player can even have a special modified version of a weapon. A rogue or assassin could easily get away with having an Assassin's Creed-style Hidden Blade as their weapon-of-choice, rather than a regular dagger, and it wouldn't impact the game as much as it would make the characters more separate from their classes' archetypical builds. In the end, it really only comes down to the players' imagination. Besides, D&D worlds are designed to let whatever would look awesome have higher priority than common sense or real-world-physics. |
