Upcoming Books?

Beyond the 3 core books, box set and the two modules has there been any kind of info about other things in the works? I am not trying to complain about a new setting not listed or anything I was just unsure if they had addressed what they may do in the upcoming year. With Wizards I am pretty positve there will be at least one book a quarter I was just looking for a oradmap of where the trail is going to lead.

They have acknowledged that they have not said anything about future products. They have said they don’t want to make any announcements yet.

The next big thing they have planned (designed internal to WotC) that they have announced is the finalization of the initial Basic Rules by the end of the year. By initial, they have stated that the Basic Rules will be a living document that will get updates over time so it will be changing over time.

By your comment about at least one book a quarter, I suspect you are already aware that they have stated they are not going to dump a glut of books on the market.

They have said that the licensing would be announced early 2015. I suspect when they are ready to make that announcement, we will hear more.

Earlier in the year, enworld had a story that the next AP would be elemental focused; have a resource book with elemental-based subclasses, races, spells, and monsters;  and would come out in March.  I can't find the article anymore, and there hasn't been any announcements from WotC, so I am starting to think that it either won't happen or it has been delayed.

This concerns me. While i definitely dont want tons of books released faster than i can buy and or use them, 1 book per quarter seams a bit spars. Not only that but i understand the business model makes money on splat books (of which i am not a fan). With only 4 books per year that doesnt leave room for campaign worlds or adventures. I love 5e but do not have the time anymore to create my own adventures. This could spell the end for me once we finish Rise of Tiamat early next year.

I'm very concerned about Wizards.  It seems Wizards was more committed to 4e than the current product.  Really, 5e needs more attention to grow.  In 4e, we had D&D Insider, but with 5e, we don't.  In 4e, we had a online character generator, which was awesome; in 5e, we have nothing.  In 4e, we had Dragon Magazine and Dungeon Magazine giving us new extras and several new adventures each month.  In 5e, these have been canceled, so again, nothing.  In 4e, we had lots of published adventures (until Madness at Gardmore Abbey).  In 5e, we only have Tyranny of Dragons, with absolutely nothing announced for the future.   I love D&D and really want to see 5e succeed; we're enjoying the PHB and running through the only adventure published.  I just wish Wizards had more product ahead.   And if they're not going to make products then they should really loosen up the licensing rules and let people publish their own adventures.

Personally I'd prefer wotc to stay away from 4e's publishing style. Lets just have the 1 players handbook for example.

As far as future books, I think focusing on campaign settings rather than adventures would be ideal. Then wotc could outsource to 3rd party companies to provide the adventures for those settings. Between campaigns, wotc should also provide a psionics book and class path books either individually like in 2nd edition or grouped together like in 4th. That should keep them busy for a few years and the community could finally have all their beloved settings updated. If during this process they could revitalize dungeon and dragon magazine, the more the merrier.

Maybe it is just me, but it seems like when anyone mentions a setting getting updated from one edition to the next, all they do is complain about it.  If that was all the feedback I got, I don't think I would do it.  I would just publish a conversion guide.  I hope they have heard better things (or that sales of settings have been good or that they ignore the forums), so that they do update them.

I agree that there are always people who complain about updating, but is that much different than the people who complain about new editions of the game. I would just like to see all of the campaign settings published for 5th edition. So that I or others dont need to make homebrew rules to convert them. Some of these settings havent been touched in 15 years or more now, and it would be nice to have them all under one edition again.

Heres another idea, if selling campaign settings by themselves is not lucrative apart from the standard fan favorites, why not publish them in a new medium like Dragon Magazine. We saw some of this during 4th edition, so why not take it a step further by incorporating sections of dragon to updating these other settings.

I do like the idea of them not flooding the market with books, D&D AW costs money, I do hope there is enough content to come progressively to make the game grow decently. I would hate for it to suffer from the lack of books.  If they do decide to update settings I do hope it is not what they did with the last edtion. Make a couple books and let it die. I think they could have a balance of 1 or 2 base set books with a book or two made for a couple settings a year. It would give them a chance to bring new info to old favorites or even bring back something really old. I would like to see some old Mystara stuff to tell you truth

I personally would like a focus on campaign settings with detailed histories. With histories, a GM can run a game in the past that focuses on some aspect of the history.

Sadly my understanding is Hasbro isn't funding anywhere near the manpower for things like Dragon, Dungeon and D&D insider had for 4E.

I never run premade adventures as I like to make my own. I do buy premade adventures as a source of ideas I may never think of to add to my own adventures.

Not having access to the sales numbers of the PDFs they have on DriveThruRPG, I do not have a definitive thought on this. I suspect that the adventures and campaign setting materials have been selling well for them to say they want to focus on those types of products.

Hasbro not putting as many $$$ behind 5E as they did 4E doesn't really mean anything other than that. My guess is that Hasbro had to put more money behind it because 4E was a big departure from the previous incarnations and they needed to push that hard. It would be very detrimental to the customer base to have hundreds of dollars of 5E material come out and, in my opinion, would generate a hell of a lot more negative responses from the community at large. They've given us the core tools, that's the right start. They'll expand from there.

Well, i really hope they publish a campaign setting soon.     having said that, the only official product that i am aware coming out, that isn't already out is the DM Screen.

Hopefully we get more future oriented information soon.

Well since WotC is in a licensing kick right now, it would be cool if they had AEG do a Legend of the Five Rings for Fifth Edition. It would fit right in for Kara-Tur.

I love Lot5R.....as Lot5R. But i do not want it as a replacement for Kara-Tur. IMO they do not feal the same, as they shouldn't. They did that for 3x and it was just not for me. Love what little I played of the minis game, L5R rpg and the novels. Great world but IMO it is not D&D. But Good luck to those who like L5R in there D&D.

How it is that a FR campaign setting book hasn't been announced yet is unbelievable to me. Developing that should be automatic, especially in 5E where they seem to be making FR the default setting. I can understand why they would like to focus on modules since those, like myself, who don't often buy thede adventures aren't contributing as much to the in income stream, but let's at least get the basic infrastructure of 5E in place, and imo that includes the FR core book.

I love samurai clans from Rokugan but I don´t need to buy any book when I can read the legend of five rings wiki and lots of animes and mangas.

WotC can create its own Rokugan. Magic: the gathering has some oriental settings. Why not the Kara-Tur version from Greyhawk or Mystara... or even from Dragonlance!!

Now that the core books are out, what is WOTC doing next?

How is WOTC going to support the game going forward?

I think its importnat that WOTC gives the fans some idea of what they want to do and how they want to do it.

They have told us there wil be another adventure and DM's screen.

They have an update planned for the Basic rules that is supposed to make it a version 1.0 (obviously the version numbers they are using are integers, but it currently is not the first full version they have planned). Then they plan to release whatever their OGL will be for this version.

At the point they are ready to release the OGL, they may tell us more.

We all do realize that Pathfinder was made backwards compatable. Thus meaning if you really want to get adventures you can use theirs and modify the encounters and whatnot. You can really use anything and modify some stuff to fit. Thats what D&D is all about people, making something into your own.

Just because this is the sort of stuff I would love to work into my own campaigns, I would love to see a 5e version of the (I think it was 3.5e) book expanding on gods and dieties, with rules and stats for different dieties as well as a system for making demigods and PC into Gods

So what about the novels... Are they going to be printed?  I've run many campaigns based on the information provided in the novels.  I've been reading through all settings from Greyhawk, Planescape and Dark Sun, to Dragonlance, Eberron and Forgotten Realms-- especially Forgotten Realms.  I've used setting cross-over adventures using portals in Sigil.  I keep my players on their toes.  We need to have the influx of stories to help explain the worlds in orderto not only rely on the campaigns every quarter.  What is the word on the futures novels?

I would like to see more focus on the martial classes: new weapons, classes and subclasses, feats.

I would also like to see an expansion above level 20, but I don't think that's really necessary right now.
