I looked through many post and never saw this mentioned. Will there ever be a 4th ed mmo. Because the rules would fit well and I am a full time DM and nearly never get to play. I know there are DD pc games out and I know about DDO, but would enjoy a good dnd pc game.....

The problem with a 4e mmo is that 4e has to be turn based if you want to keep even half of the rules. A FFT type 4e game would be so much better, but those don't sell that well. You can play online which is pretty fun.

Well, probably won't happen for years.

Atari owns the rights to license out any electronic product bearing the name of Dungeons and Dragons (until 2011). Currently the right to produce a MMO of DnD is owned by Turbine, who did DDO.

I ain't here to argue about if the MMO is good or not. I liked it while I played it because of what it offered.

So Turbine's contract with Atari more then likely doesn't allow competing MMO's to be made of DnD for X amount of years.

there are 3.0 and AD&D PC games that are not turn based; however, none of them are MMO's (Baulder's Gate and Neverwinter Nights)

Either way I would love to have a PC game that actually is turn based with a battle grid. Non-turn based rpg's and turn-based rpg's with no battle map (like final fantasy) take so much of the tactics out of role playing and it just turns into a slug match.

I would like that too. TOEE was decent if you downloaded the mods. And I enjoyed the Baldur's Gate games as well without any changes.

I would be willing to subscribe to a turn based online game like what was first proposed when 4E came out. I have no interest in a MMO and have never had, but I like turn based games a lot. Vandal hearts was one of my favorite playstation 1 games.

I think Turbine did a great job of making a game that felt like D&D3.5 while making it work in an MMO, but lots of sacrifices and changes did have to be made. For there to be a 4e MMO you'd have to find another group willing to do all that work all over again and I just don't see that happening. It was hard for turbine to get what they did get out, and they never could get some things in there, like druids. I'm sure 4e would have it's own share of problems to deal with.

I wouldn't mind seeing a turn-based 4e game, but I think the squares are only used for table top games. A computer should be able to round out all the bursts. A computer game where fireballs look like firecubes would not be good.

Turbine is like a Feringi from star trek... they have DDO and LotR!! how you gonna support the enemy!! I know its just a game, but come on... WotC and GW?? well at least they didn't do Warhammer!!

now Turbine did Asherons Call back in the day...

too bad Troika doesn't exist anymore... and Bioware is all engrossed in their own Game system (Dragon Age Origions), although I would love to see a new NWN type game made by them!!
using 4e would be so much easier, i mean I mess around with the Original Dungeon Siege(yes WotC I made my own personal game with 4e, and i am not going to share... its a work in progress) and I can make that a turn based tactical game

but 4e is still young, heck it's multiplying like a friggin Hamster already!! look at all the material, I had to get a second job to even buy my books(Welcome to McDonalds! Can I take your order?)!!

From what I can tell, 4E has really brought the true turnbased playstyle back to Dungeons and Dragons and I really have to give props to WoTC for doing such a spectacular and challenging job.

I am a very busy business owner and unfortunately don't have much time to get together with friends to play a few hours of D&D with them. I really think that a turn-based 4E Dungeons and Dragons pc game (xbox, playstations, what have you) would get alot of support from the D&D community.

When Baldur's Gate came out way back in the day, it was the best D&D game I had ever played. I have to say that out of all the games I have played, World of Warcraft, Asheron's Call, DDO, NWN, NWN II, and a few others, Baldur's Gate still beats them in content, storyline, and ease of play.

I think that BG was about 10 years ahead of its time, but with its ability to be paused just like a turn based system, it brought a whole new approach to fantasy roleplaying where AC and other MMOs failed.

I enjoy taking a few moments to decide my actions and strategize my turn, and with the 4E rules the way they are, turn based would be awesome.

Plus, once you make the framework for turn based, WoTC could then focus on each of the worlds. I am sure players would love to play all the published adventures, especially when it comes to the Dark Sun and Dragonlance campaigns.

Plus you could always "team up" in multiplayer mode with other players on the internet and play a new adventure as a group, or go at it alone.

Not to nit-pck, but both Baulders Gate and NWN were turn based....you could even slect in the option when the game auto-paused so you could plan out your actions...

I really liked some of the old Might and Magic games from 3DO, and that format would be perfect for 4E...

I have to respectfully ( and i actually do agree with every other point you make) disagree with you on this point. I've played WoW since beta and although its a total hamster wheel as far as ease of play goes they pretty much reinvented the term.

Has nobody played Gladius for PS2/GC?  Thats a turn based grid-based rpg game with different classes and powers o_o and that game is wonderful!  It's even multiplayer if you want it to be, either pvp or have people be different characters in the arena on your team using other controllers.

So there is already a sort of precedent for a multiplayer grid-based turn based rpg.  So I know a 4e game of the same type is definitely possible, even an MMO, and I would LOVE to see that ^_^

Only problem though is how long it would take to develop o_o FOREVER O_O... I mean if they can't even make the character visualizer you think they would ever get a game made?...then again I think those are seperate companies =p

Plus how much updates the stuff would have to go through, I don't want a MMO where its only the phb1 classes (which is likely) since the DDO only had the base classes mainly and we never saw the expansion classes (i think warlock got in though? or was the NWN?)  And I wanna see ALLLLLLLL the races that are currently out to play and see updates for playable races of those that could be played in the future, like kobolds ^_^

So we might see one, one day, but I can probably promise you that you'll be SORELY disappointed by the lack of class/character options you can take.  No shamans or devas or assassins or gnolls for you :D etc. etc.

there is going to be a 4th edition D&D PC game. The game will be made by Cryptic Studios, the makers of STO and Champions online.

I could roll with an online D&D 4th style game. Eventually I hope it all goes digital.
